  1. I am hoping they shut these forums down Soon™. Unmoderated forums are not what this community needs.

    #SaveCoH video

    Great video! Favorited/commented/tweeted
  3. LOL.

I never wanted to become a Cartel member so over the years have switched accounts three times on the forums so as to never reach the 10k post mark

I mean it's obvious the petition will not stop the closing...as that is a done deal. The petition will not guarantee the negotiations are a success. What the petition does provide is a way of saying "Look these people are wanting the game to stay alive."

The part that saddens me is that I know there are more than 20,000 active CoH players, but thousands of them have not signed the petition. I wish there was a way of reaching out to those who haven't heard about it; which is why I continue to promote it as much as possible. If/when the game closes; whether the negotiations are fruitful or not, I will feel good that I have done everything I can to help save CoH. I refuse to be one of the lazy people who simply gives up. I refuse to be a defeatist.

  5. Just watched this video...meh. The thing that irked me form the very start was when she said "City of Heroes is FINALLY shutting down." The information she provided was not up to date and basically wrong; except for the whole November 30th thing.

It's obvious she has no clue about CoH... the CoH community... or the #SaveCoH movement.... Well actually it isn't obvious that she doesn't KNOW; prolly more likely she just couldn't be bothered to report the details.
  6. Awesome cookie and card

Hope you had a great birthday!

I just dinged "level 39" not long ago
  7. My last interaction with a GM went something like this:

Was on a defeat all council cave map (uggggh) with my main toon (I Burnt The Toast)and was showing no more enemies on the map. I looked for a good 15 minutes because I did not want to petition it and then be like: OOPS THERE HE IS! (I MAY have done that before.. MAY HAVE!!!)

So I petition it and within 5-10 minutes I get a GM inside my mission...flying all around me in circles non-stop and here is a synopsis of what transpired:

GM_X: Hi I am GM_X how can I be of service
I Burnt The Toast: Well you could hold still for a second yer kinda making me dizzy LOL!
    GM_X: So you need Dramamine?
I Burnt The Toast: LOL Or a taser!
GM_X: OUCH I am not into pain!
I Burnt The Toast: OK I will save that for the next date... hehe

    GM_X disappears....................

    30 Seconds later GM_X re-appears

GM_X: Is this considered the second date?

We chuckled and he found the last NPC half hidden in the ceiling...

He asked me if I needed anything else and I said No and thanked him for his help and the laughs....

    He then said:
GM_X: You sure you don't need anything else???

OK so at this point I thought to myself: Uh oh does this guy think I was really flirting with him? (I tend to be flirtatious with everyone, but never really FLIRTING)

So I said Nah I am good..and thank him again.

GM_X: Ok Good...cuz I don't know how to fix a toaster! Have a good night!

I chuckled for a few minutes and just thought to myself: Only in CoH would a GM be that fun

(I looked for the email regarding this to give credit to the GM who it was, but I think I deleted it Hence why the name GM_X)
  8. Not sure why you think he was being a dick....
He said please multiple times...and even offered you insight into article v. blogs.

    Having a sensitive day??

There is nothing "valuable" in my estimation about the game other than nostalgia, history, and brand name. And while those are nice to have sometimes, it is not the should be focused on. Are you really telling me that the devs can't create a newer better engine? or newer better lore? or newer better mechanics? i don't buy that for a second, but that's what trying to save this game really does. You're fighting for something that could be outdone in short order if you were to allow them to move on as a team.

For bringing in new capital that a start up needs to get going the only thing that is valuable out of those 3 things is the brand name which holds only a small amount of value, but even that with enough of a loyal fan base word of mouth would spread that it is the same people and thus in that sense isn't that valuable either. The only value then of buying the IP is the lore. And while it is cool it'd be like saying that an artist should just keep painting their first painting because it's so awesome as it is, rather than taking those skills and creating something altogether new and likely better.

Skip the buying the IP which will cost all that money, keep the team together, and create a new IP with the funds that you would spend on something that has relatively little value for what you'd pay for it. And maybe you find this all insulting that I would say your efforts are in folly, but they are. No matter what the result is, the best you can hope for is paying several million dollars for a game that due to these hits will continue to lose money likely only lasting a few more years before the numbers become too low to maintain anything more than the lights on with 2 of the 4 or 5 years left the game likely has left (now that it was hit with this) being in the red. And then where does this start up go from there? Nowhere because it doesn't have the money so it either dies or needs new investors and you are back at this same situation, pushed 5 years down road, working with a system that wasn't all that great to begin with from everything that is said.

If you take the money you'd pay for the IP and dump it into a new IP you might be in the red for the same amount of time, but the game "should" be better, you have a clean slate with new fans, and the IP is likely better and you will have a lot more profit in the end.

Assuming people follow the dev team with what they do Buying the game gives you a steady decline while building a new game the risk is virtually the same but it has a much higher RoI for an investor because there is always that spike of new people that are curious.

So in the end all you are doing is wasting time and effort if you are looking for the best possible product and profit. If you're goal is simply to tarnish NCSoft... You're doing a decent job. Or if your goal is to get your game back it's a crap shoot, but I'd bet your largely wasting your time and even if it works out you're going to get a much diminished product.
  10. I am usually up late on Fridays so this is a good thing. Once it gets closer I think Titan Networks will probably try to organize something for the last night of CoH....as we know it...for now
  11. And this post reflects why I respect you so much and stand behind you.

It's so easy for people to complain, whine, and be overall negative - because truth be told pessimism is easy compared to optimism. It takes real effort to stay optimistic, but it is the defeatist who can say "F*** it!" I choose the hard path...the path of most resistance. I will not give up without a fight. Giving up and accepting defeat is the NON-HEROIC thing to do. Everyone involved in the #SaveCoH campaign are heroes in my eyes. No we are not ending cancer...no we are not saving people from hunger...but we are fighting to save a community of thousands which in my book is pretty damn heroic.

Actually--and hold on to your socks because I'm about to blow your mind--it's both. Saving the community is easy. I can keep the Titan Network forums running indefinitely, post a few "Hey everyone, let's just convene over there!" messages, and mission accomplished.

If we stopped there, though, then 80+ people would still be out of a job and the labor of their love, their pièce de résistance, their Mona Lisa, would be destroyed for no good reason.

Believing that is your prerogative. Some people think that if the Mona Lisa were thrown into a bonfire and destroyed, hey, no worries. It's just a thing, and it was really kind of ugly anyway. Others fall somewhere in between the two extremes on the spectrum. Different people are coming at this from different angles, and believe me, the community is a major consideration of why I have been fighting so hard.

So that's your cutoff? You have to put yourself in mortal peril? So someone who fights a company who is dumping waste and destroying environmental resources, they're not a hero? After all, there's very little risk of mortal peril in a courtroom with metal detectors and all. A football player who is a great sportsman and role model in convincing kids to pursue high standards of academic excellence instead of just worshiping his physical prowess isn't a hero? When John F. Kennedy was piloting his PT boat, I suppose that was pretty heroic since he could have been shot and killed, but when he was navigating the tricky minefield that was the Cuban Missile Crisis, that wasn't particularly heroic since he'd probably be pretty safe and sound in the event of an actual nuclear strike?

To me, a hero is someone who fights for a noble goal, who clearly goes above and beyond the call of duty to set right things that are wrong. Are people who put their lives on the line to do so heroes? Oh, hell yes they are. Do you have to put yourself in mortal danger to be a hero? Absolutely not. And in that spirit, I really do think that we are heroes.

What NCsoft is doing is wrong. Destroying years of hard work and creativity when there are viable options in which everyone can benefit is wrong. Laying off 80+ people instead of spinning off Paragon Studios and keeping those people employed is wrong. Needlessly destroying a large chunk of a strong community without warning after helping to build it up is wrong. To me, fighting against this injustice is a noble goal, and the people doing it aren't just piloting fake heroes in a game, they deserve every ounce of support, appreciation, and respect that people have to offer.

Incidentally, if you still insist that lives have to be saved, people have told us that City of Heroes has quite literally saved their lives in some way by helping them through hard times and allowing them to make friends that they wouldn't have otherwise met. Maybe you think they're just being melodramatic, but I think they are serious. Maybe it's not as striking an image as running into a burning building and rescuing a child, but I think that it is worthwhile, and I'm extremely proud of every person here who has helped out in any capacity.

  13. I will be on this weekend base editing and playing the game. If anyone is looking for a teammate hit me up @I Burnt The Toast (Freedom). All my toons are 50's but I love doing regular missions etc
  14. QFT!

Take the news of "negotiations are ongoing" to mean just that...it is a good sign that NCSoft did not bother with negotiations and flat out said "No!"

When things get tough you work with what you've got and hopefully learn to be grateful for it. And I'm grateful for Mercedes Lackey.

Lackey has also openly, publicly made statements about how devastating this has been for her and how her involvement has created more stress for her, not less; and yet she has continued to stay involved and go to bat for us. I don't personally know Mrs. Lackey, but when I see people slamming her for CONTINUING to do what other people in her shoes may have quit doing by now (feeding news to an ungrateful audience despite having Paragon's trust), it only makes me respect her more and more.

At least she has plenty of support on the Titan forums, where people are apparently not living under a rock for the past three weeks.
  15. Absolutely amazing video. It makes me proud to be a member of CoH.
  16. Yeah I tried CO twice...no thanks.

Pretty much decided if nothing comes from the negotiations...that I am done with MMOs. I have tried DCUO, CO, GW, GW2, and SWTOR...none of which appealed to me in the slightest.

No need to give up now...Paragon still needs heroes.

The fight is just beginning to save Paragon City!
  19. CoH was the first MMO I ever played; and have been playing/subbing since March 2005. Sure I have tried other games: EQII, WoW, CO, DCUO, GW, and SWTOR...but never for more than a week.

I have GW2, but have played it about 4 hours total. IF CoH is not saved I will probably play GW2...some. And by some I mean an hour here or there. I have never found a game that interested me half as much as CoH. So in essence if/when CoH does shutdown; whether that be in November 2012 or some date further down the road...I don't see myself actively playing another MMO.
  20. Zwill...you make me smile I wish more people were like you....

    I will miss you.
  21. 1. The Cartel attitude.

    2. People complaining about PLing.

    3. The 7th grade banter non stop in Atlas Park broadcast.

    4. G.I.R.L.s

    5. People who AFK for 20+ minutes at a time in a mission/tf/trial.

    My top 5 pet peeves
  22. To the OP.. No I do not share your feelings.

CoH is the only MMO I play. I have tried EQII, WoW, SWTOR, GW, GW2, DCUO, and CO.

NONE of those games have what CoH does for me. Part of that is the community and the friendliness of the people I have met the past 7.5 years.

So yes I am upset the game may close, yes I am upset I may not be able to play THIS game with my friends, and yes I am very upset that the dev team were thrown out on the street without any notice.

  25. I don't use these forums for the #savecoh campaign...I use titan. It's less cluttered, actively moderated, etc....
