I have a couple toons that are born door-sitters.
I most of the rest are better off in the gauntlet of the choke points or running down strays. -
Quote:You could be a grass-green Level 1 tank straight out of the character creator. This will at least get you onto a missions team. However, if you want to get in on a Task Force team, you'll need to be at least minimum level for whatever Task Force is being run:Thanks for the explanation. I have two more questions:
1) How does this work level wise, what level do you need to be?
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Task_Force
You can do one of two things.Quote:2) How does this work for those different servers. Do you need a character on each server or is this in some way cross-server? (I'm on Infinity).
- Create a character on each server (actually a nifty way to try out various different tank primary/secondary combos).
- Use server transfers.
Essentially. It's a shame the time difference is that great that players would either need to stay up way late or nap early to partake of TT on a US server night. Hence, why there are the Saturday events at a much more reasonable (for European players) time.Quote:BT is GMT? So that would be 9 p.m. CET?
I am from Europe (The Netherlands), so my guess is that that would be my best bet, as 9 p.m. ET would be 3 a.m. for me. -
Quote:is it really that good for Brutes? im taking a look at it in Mids and it doesnt seem that great for Defense, maybe im just not used to being surrounded by 10+ foes
but i had an idea for a christmas-themed brute and was trying to decide what Primary/Secondary sets to choose, im still not sure about Primary but i need less help with that
but my real question is: what makes Invuln so good that im always reading about it here in this forum section?
Is it good for Brutes? Dive into a full x8 spawn of enemies and watch your defenses skyrocket. Oh my badness YES!
SS is ALWAYS a nice option.
Street Justice is fun.
Titan Weapons is the New Hotness for AoE.
And, as soon as you can, if you're staying villain-side, do your alignment missions and get Frenzy. Instant 100% Fury! Great for starting out a mission. On my SS/Inv I do the following:
- Pop Rage
- Pop Fury
- Spring Attack into a group
- Foot Stomp
- Lay into the most dangerous boss with ST attacks till Foot Stomp recharges.
-
Here's, more or less what I have on a Brute of mine right now.
Currently the PVP IO you see in the build isn't there and I'm debating whether it's really necessary. He's ridiculously tough as-is right now and I've only just started really getting anything more than basic Alpha slots on him.
His schtick thus far is:
- Pop Rage
- Pop Frenzy
- Spring Attack into a group
- Foot Stomp (at this point most minions are dead or trying VERY hard to get that way)
- Lay into a boss with ST attacks.
- Foot Stomp Again (at this point minions should all be dead and LTs should have major hurtage).
Note that I took LBE instead of Hurl. This is personal preference. I just like the fact that I can use LBE even in flight, whereas Hurl doesn't work once your feet come up off the ground. That and the LBE recharges and animates roughly 33% faster keeps damage mostly equivalent.

Yeah. It looks like your router hated the latest firmware update.
Test out the game client today/tonight and see how your connection fares.
If no rubber-banding, you're probably good.
Gotta love open source. -
Quote:The other option is a $15 1 month time card which turns the account VIP for 30 days and gives them unlimited access, though ultimately, the $15 in PP would be a better investment.Thank you for correcting me, I was not aware of the extra token.
Honestly, $15, while not "trivial", is a minimal one-time investment. It's a single movie ticket nowadays. -
-
How many ports does your router have on the back?
Have you tried changing Ethernet cables or swapping the one you have to another port?
Also, have you power-cycled your network yet?
- Shut EVERYTHING off and unplug the devices.
- Wait 5-10 minutes.
- Power up the cable/DSL modem and give it a couple minutes.
- Power up the router and give it a couple minutes.
- Power up your computer and try playing.
Okay, between your computer and router you're getting 17% packet loss.
That's bad.
0% or 100% are usually fine (100% on a ping test means the device is set to ignore/drop ping packets).
Between your router and your gateway (Cable/DSL modem) you're getting an equivalent 17% packet loss.
This could just be fails brought about by the router. Or it could be something bad at the gateway.
Your first hop out to your ISP (host-9-24-220-24-static.midco.net) is showing 20% packet loss.
The next hop to (host-33-13-220-24-static.midco.net) is showing 14% packet loss
Then a bunch of random 1% and 2%. scattered throughout. Your ping times are quite low though.
Basically once you hop from Level3 in Denver to Level3 in Dallas, your packet loss goes away.
This is likely a compound problem causing this.
You could be having problems with the router.
You could be having problems with the gateway device.
Your ISP's head-end for your connection is misbehaving, but this COULD be due to bad behavior on the part of your router/gateway device.
And the next hop along is problematic too, leading me to think that the ISP is having some issues with those nodes. Possibly they're overloaded or screaming for a reboot.
Like I said, try rebooting your network and see if that helps alleviate anything. If your pathpings are still that bad, especially once you get onto Midco's network, contact them and ask them to check your connection from their end and give them those two hostnames.
What your setup looks like is someone reselling internet access (S1Systems reselling Midco cable connections). -
Quote:Essentially you want to fight another player using your exact build in a PVP setting using PVE combat rules.Sorry to quote an older post but see....I just think they did the whole Doppleganger thing wrong.
I've yet to face my equal in this game short of an AV, and even those can be killed without too much trouble with the right build/IO/inspiration mix. Solo.
When I fight my Doppleganger I want it to be the REAL anti-ME. Its not. Its a weaker version of me. It doesn't have my Incarnate powers. It doesn't match my slotting. Its a pale reflection of my toon not matter what I know I'm going to beat my Doppleganger.
That's not how I had envisioned this being implemented. I really REALLY want to fight myself in the game. Now THAT would be a challenge.
Good luck. -
Quote:I would love to be able to invite any of my character to an SG that I belong to but My SG have become some what inactive, Meaning very few people still play that had or have characters in the SG. The base is a decent one and I would love to have one or two of my present characters invited to it. But the only person that can do that has not been on for quite some time. And getting some body else invited is hard enough.
It could be done through the in game e-mail system. We can send In game money (Inf) to any of of our other characters on our account even if they are on a different server, I simple drop down box or something can be sent and you could per-arrange to have that character start at the base level or be all the way up to Asst leader. I Know this has been mentioned before but I can not find where it was at.
Question, what's stoping you from:
- Create a F2P or Premium account
- Dual-box (Run 2 copies of CoH, one for your main account, one for the F2P/Premium)
- Invite the F2P/Premium into the SG
- Elevate their privs (if that's what you need to do) to be able to invite
- Invite an alternate toon on your main account into the SG?
Does it accomplish what you want for minimal/no cost? Yup! -
Nope. The market is cross-server.
And you're on one of the most populous servers in the game.
Okay a couple critiques of your build as is.
- WAY overslotted for Acc. 2 common Acc IOs should be MORE than fine. Convert the extra Acc IO to a Damage IO. The damage from most of your attacks is pitiful and simply prolongs fights to the point where someone is eventually going to get lucky and kill you.
- You have way too much passive endurance reduction (Resist/Defense toggles) and pretty much NO active endurance reduction (attacks). This will drain you dry faster than you can say "Faceplant" in anything other than the lightest fighting. You expend more energy attacking than you do from your armors.
- Pull the Accs out of Taunt. It's auto-hit outside of PVP.
While I agree with the posters above that you'd be better-served by using Hamidon Origin enhancers, some of them can be VERY expensive.
Here's a slight rework of your original build with more emphasis on damage and endurance reduction in powers.

Quote:Try this. Softcapped S/L/E, capped hitchance vs +3 enemies, permahasten, all key powers taken and properly slotted etc, i.e. standard controller build. It's cheap to boot (no PvPIO and 2 frankenslotted purples).
Even if you have no trouble soloing, softcapped defense is still valuable since it will allow you to solo tougher spawns. In teams, you can absorb the alpha if there isn't a tank and take the initiative, and besides kin is such an absurdly efficient set it's a waste not to take tough/weave. I prefer S/L/E on kins since this way you get to melee with impunity and get the full benefit of your buffs.
Alpha is Spiritual Core Paragon. If you exemp, you can use siphon speed to make up for the lost recharge (alternately, lose some rech from the build and make up for it with siphon speed, then put the extra slots elsewhere).

And, according to my copy of Mids, you still have three slots to play with.
But there's just something in me that squirms like an eel at the sight of Kick being:
A: Taken
B: Slotted up

Put it this way.
If they could leave the game's basic powers/enemies/etc mechanics (all the under-the-hood stuff) in place (as a starting point) and re-wrap the game in a newer, sexier graphics engine, I might go for that.
Doing a COMPLETE revamp of the game as a whole right off the bat is impractical
And deep-sixing the game to go with a "CoH2, Electric Boogaloo" (Now with less content!) is a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIII*GASP*WHEEZE*PUFF*PUFF*PUFF*IIIIII IIIIIG no-no.
Would simply re-wrapping the game in a new graphics client be "tough"? Sure! Tougher than rewriting from scratch? Probably. There's several metric giga-buttloads of "nooks" and "crannies" in the game that will probably blow up because they weren't anticipated in the current game. And the community will stumble across at least twice that many within hours of it going live. -

Quote:Hell, one of my clients actually found out that someone had copied their entire COMPANY (we're talking a company of over 1000 people, not a 1-man job by a guy sitting behind a desk in his home office) over in China and was selling under their aegis. They were essentially selling near-perfect copies of the company's products, and they only found out when one of "their" products came back with a SKU they didn't actually produce.Kinda like the situation where someone tries to hold back the sea by building a wall at the shore - only the waves just go around the ends of the wall anyway.
Regarding international law - yeah, that's really more of an agreement between nations that there are certain rules that "everyone" will follow, provided, of course, that everyone signs on. And the Chinese pretty much don't sign on, so anyone trying to "enforce" international contract or intellectual property "law" is hosed when dealing with them.
It took massive amounts of time and money to shut them down. -

Quote:Which most of these Chinese vendors care ****-all about.Never say die. NcSoft is also in Korea and there are such things as International Business Law.
And they were back weeks later under a new name.Quote:Niether here nor there, the original lawsuit started with a Chinese gold vendor that ended up linking back to a us based gold vendor...just saying.
Anyhow, I would definitely look at the case before making a snap assumption, but once it did link back, they settled.
Now imagine this for every hydra head that pops up.
And how much cash they'd burn through in legal fees. Cash that can be going towards product development.
It is not economically feasible to go after gold sellers. -

Dangit!
Here I went and got my tank all gussied up for TT and I get consigned to Family Tech Support Schlub again.
Not happy Bob. Not...happy...

Quote:A lot of the tip missions are buggy as hell.Quite often with the Morality missions(and sometimes with any mission), the 'mission complete' appears for a instant, then the mission vanishes from my mission queue while still inside. The Exit Button also vanishes often trapping me within(especially in a mission full of waves of ambushes).
"You're a Cruel One Mr. Phipps" (Hero/Vig Alignment Mission)
Basically the position of the hostages isn't fixed" while they're captured. So they can be KB'ed by enemies. For some reason, if this happens, freeing them by defeating the captor group doesn't "tick off" the objective. Meaning that the console you have to activate to never lights up as an objective. Meaning the mission can't be completed.
Mis-remembering the name at the moment. But there's a villain alignment mission where you fight successive waves of Miss Thistles. The only problem is, if you actually KILL them before they TP out, it won't summon the next wave.
"My Other Selves" (Villain Morality Mission)
This one is PARTICULARLY bad. But not to the point you can't complete it. Here's why. When you free the technician, the objectives cascade-complete. So, a couple minutes after you interrogate the tech for the code, the mission finishes and awards you the alignment merit. Why? I don't *BLEEP!*ing know!
"Doc Quantum's Moral Quandry" (Hero/Vig Alignment Mission)
On occasion, if you're running this on a team or at a high multiple, Doc Q fails to spawn after freeing Sky Dragon.
And in general. I've been dual-boxing lately and have noticed that some of the missions that call in ambushes ("Art, Psychics and You", "The Unusual Suspect", etc) almost invariably have the boss portion of the ambush group head off after my lowbies. Even if I teleport them to my immediate vicinity, the boss STILL goes after them, ignoring all damage, taunts, and ANYTHING else used to try and rip aggro (with a tank no less), from the unoffending SK.
But the focus on "MOAR NEW STUFFZ!" will probably mean that these things are never touched again unless they completely break. -
Quote:and just as I was getting good on the ski courses

for next year, what are the tricks to getting better/faster runs? I thought a Kin hitting me with Speed boost would do it, but it only shaved a fraction of a second off my final score (49.88) on the toboggan course... the record is under 41 seconds
Speed isn't always the greatest help. Because you don't have the positional control to make the most of it.
If you want the absolute LOWEST time possible what you need is...
7 teammates with Teleport.
Position them at the last 7 markers on the course, usually bottom man on the last one and work up the course (and team list).
Ski your way up to within eyesight of the first guy and start a teleport chain.
Unslotted teleport generally works best.
Each person watches the guy ahead of them.
When they see the big drop in Endurance from TP firing, they fire off themselves.
It takes some practice, but you can get OBSCENELY low run times. -
Tanker Tuesday is an event that happens every Tuesday night.
Unlike some events, TT hops from server to server on a weekly basis.
First Tuesday of the month is always Champion
Second Tuesday of the month is always Justice
Third Tuesday of the month flips back and forth between Freedom and Virtue.
Fourth and (if there is one) Fifth Tuesday are pseudeo-random servers.
In addition, there's a mid-day Saturday event at least once a month on one of the former Euro servers.
The meetup point is the wall right next to the Independence Port gate in Kings Row.
Start times for the Tuesday event is 9PM Eastern.
Start time for the Euro-Saturday event is...ooh, brain-farting on this one. Someone else can answer it.
We normally start the evening off by clearing Kings Row of any Paladin GM spawns that happen to be there (good for a couple merits), then break out into teams for various purposes (TFs, mission teams, tip teams, etc)
Essentially it's a great opportunity for a bunch of tanks to get together and beat the living snot out of anything in their way. It helps newer tankers to learn stuff from people who're more experienced. It provides missions where you don't have to worry about "squishies" and can crank up the difficulty a bit without worrying that 3/4ths of the team are going to go *SPLAT* upon entering the mission door.
