  1. Another web site suggested killing SetPoint.exe and running it as administrator.

I tried this. COH will now recognize the mouse 4 and 5 on the left side when in the key assignments screen but not in the actual game! This is an improvement, I guess, over before when the key assignment screen wouldn't recognize them.

I use them for free rotate camera (camera rotates around avatar, but avatar does not spin) and "reset camera position". In the key assignment dialog, I click one of those, hit the button, and "mouse 4" and "mouse 5" are assigned correctly.

I even hit "apply" just for the heck of it, and close the dialog box. They don't work.

So...COH is getting the mouse messages, but is choking somehow on any code outside the key assignment dialog box.

I have not tried the hint in this thread, though. Just wanted to point out this very curious thing.
  2. With the update to open up the next two alpha slot levels?

With my old 50, I regularly do paper missions in GV by myself, then do the Peregrine bank mission. My diff is set such that the bank mission is fairly tough (it's difficult to get the primary part done, then the 4 side-quests, before running out of time due to deaths.)

At this diff, the paper missions are somewhat easier. So far so good. A bank mission should be tougher, all things equal, for the same diff level.

But the past two days, I've been having multiple wipes on the paper missions in GV. This primarily is due to running out of endurance.

Now these are Carnie and Malta paper missions. I take out the sappers and the Ring Mistresses, so far so good. But other things seem to be sapping me. Things that didn't used to sap my end.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is it my imagination?
  3. I have my own base with a small energy room which I've heavily decorated. I need more energy and the biggest generator won't fit. So I need a bigger energy room.

I upgraded my plot and made such a room, but now I have this extra energy room with no energy in it. I don't want to delete it because I've put a ton of effort into it for decorations.

Am I stuck with an orphaned room (for what it's "supposed" to be used for)? Is there a way to increase a room's size (upgrade it, I guess) while leaving all the placed stuff there?

Someone had said that one of the larger plots started allowing 2 energies (actual devices, not 2 rooms, which you can do if you want) but I see no such thing in the description list of even the Massive Hidden Complex.

Also, the Secret Location outline in the selection bar in the Upgrade Plot utility is rectangular, but in reality it's a square.
  4. Ah, that's it! Thanks a ton.

I had to go into options to re-enable it. You can only turn it off, but not back on, by clicking in the buff icons area because you need the icons there to pop up the mini-menu.
  5. This happens on only one character, maybe it's a setting, but I can't find it.

Whenever I go near a day job location (e.g. black market or base teleporter) no day job icon shows up under my health bar. How do I turn this back on? It's only this character, I have verified this.
  6. Is there a hold-your-gun-in-the-air emote?

Kinda like Ron Perlman is doing here:

Slung over the shoulder would work, too. Just anything besides running around like a dope with two hands on it when you're just standing there.

And yes, I've checked all the emote lists, but it could be a cryptic name without "gun" or "rifle" or "weapon" in it, and also the lists can be outdated.
  7. I assume that means any plot size with Secure in the name or larger? BTW, the plot shapes on the placement selector are different shapes from the actual plot that will be placed. Is there a way to go through the shapes, or is this a mismatch?
  8. Hehe, since I can't get at them, how big does my base have to be (plotwise? Special rooms?) so I can have two control core items? I have two control rooms to boost my control, but cannot seem to place a second control item in the new room even though I have plenty of cash.
  9. The FAQ thread links in the following thread lead to "thread not found" error messages.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=123764
  10. I just switched to redside. I am vigilante, but cannot get invited to a VG -- it says I'm "the enemy". Do I have to be full villain? In broadcast people all say yes, you can be invited.

ETA: I have not bought "Going Rogue", if that's even available yet.
  11. I just came back after some months off. I thought I was imagining things.

My bots are running up to punch the boss, who immediately 1-shots it with a punch.

I guess this is "fun": I have pet goto on alt-z. I hit alt-z and then target the ground right by me.

I do this every 5-10s or so to keep them by me. Golly, this is fun!

Hey, devs! Is this, seriously, your calculation in your mind: "Hmmmm. If they all stay back and shoot like they're supposed to, the MM will be overpowered. So we have to make 'em die off at a certain rate. And, oddly, that doesn't happen unless they get into melee and get punched. I have an idea! Let's force them into melee, on a regular basis even though it's illogical and an absolutely abysmal tactic for anything to use, if one wants to win that is."

Alt-z, go here. Alt-z, go here. Alt-z, go here. Alt-z, go here...
  12. Personally, I refuse to take the epic powers on my masterminds -- it's highly offensive we're the only ones who don't get an epic pet. >:-(

A good portion of the time, I don't bother distributing bubble to the rest of the team. I give them as needed usually. If there is a Tank or Brute, I usually pass them some bubbles unless I'm doing my Tankermind thing. Got a blaster or Corr that gets in trouble a lot? Give them the range/aoe bubble. The point I'm making is, I don't feel the need to buff EVERYONE every 4 minutes.

In the time I've played like this, I've only had ONE bad apple... a few nights ago. They proceeded to berate me, piss, and moan... after they booted me several missions into the team (that was doing really well considering the tank was a newbie and the DS/Dark MM got into trouble from time to time). I could go on and on about how I was taking alpha and dishing out damage, but it didn't seem to matter.

Now, I come here tot he boards and see some saying that they avoid buffing sets because they don't want to do pets and players every 4 minutes. I say SCREW THEM! The effort put into min-maxing the team, in my opinion, is wasted for the most part. There is no sense in shielding a blaster or defender that's doing fine staying out of trouble, thanks to a well played tank or a great controller.

Should I have been shielding that MM? Maybe. Could that MM been played better? Perhaps. Am I mostly getting something off my chest to see if others feel like I feel? Absolutely.

I have several 50 MMs, and tried a bubs necro for the heck of it. I stopped playing around level 19 (this was before the accelerated lower levels, BTW) because I could...not...stand re-bubbling everything every few minutes. Between my own pets and the team, it was way too irritating.

It's kind of sad -- there's not much for bubbles to do other than bubble people, is that the reason they don't last that long? To give people something to do?
  14. Ok, put one there, replacing one of three standard damage IOs. I assume this is building up for the enforcer and not for me, correct?

As the two IOs add 82% damage, vs. pushing 97% for three, I am also assuming this will amount to more than 17% average damage bonus. Good, bad, stupid?

ETA: It's the only thug who will accept it, BTW. I do not need it for myself as I don't do much direct damage.
  15. I was reactivating and successfully did so. Started the game, it hadn't "taken", yet, so I clicked on the manage account button on the login screen (of the game.)

It sent me to secure.plaync.com, but Google Chrome warned me it was redirected to secure.ncsoft.com, did I want to proceed anyway? (See below.)

I clicked "proceed anyway", and I got dumped into an ncsoft page that said "a general error has occurred".

I can get in the game, but your configuration may be messed up (the redirect) and is definitely messed up (the general error page.)

    Quote:
This is probably not the site you are looking for!
You attempted to reach secure.plaync.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as secure.ncsoft.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of secure.plaync.com. You should not proceed.
  16. Unstoppable takes Endurance Mod, but looking at my actual combat attributes, I see it only doubles my base, i.e. I get the 100% bonus, not 136% or whatever it is.

Now I look at the detailed description, and the one and only recovery rate line item, the 100% bonus one, is Ignores enhancements.

So...nevermind for the moment why I would want to do that, what, if anything does an endurance mod IO do in unstoppable? Looks like nothing, and therefore it's an error/bug that unstoppable allows endurance mod slotting?
  17. I've got a prison in my VG. I'd like some Longbow to throw in there, peese peese peese!

That argument is laughable. I have 10 racks, 9 for alphabetical storage of yellow or rarer, and a 10th to hold some commonly-used whites and a few rare overflows.

Still, they're clogged to the gills (this is my own vanity VG, btw, just me) so I unloaded about 40 things on the BM. With 2 exceptions, everything went for incredibly cheap prices, including a number of yellows.

It's a buyer's market. In fact, the only time prices go up a little bit is in the first half of a weekend, when lots of weekenders resume play enough to start leveling more, and thus start buying up more stuff.

By Sunday afternoon, prices have crashed again, and will stay that way until the next Friday/Saturday.

Now if the devs wanna keep people happy at crush time, they would need a different solution. LIKE, OH, I DON'T KNOW, LETTING US STORE MORE!

Then we wouldn't have to toss stuff because it's useless to sell (won't sell, or will, but for 22 inf.)

Or let us sell a hell of a lot more at a time, so we can unload tons of crap on the AH and just leave it there. Or have the AHs offer generic bins you can heave your whites into and get a cut of the average sell price for that *week*. Like selling to a vendor, but it goes on the AH for a whatever-the-price-will-bear cost.

Then people can unload it any time during the week, but still get something approaching the weekend sell price. Both sides win since more items will keep weekend costs lower.

    Someone patent that.

    * Set storage racks/tables/bins to store/sort alphabetically, the same as personal storage.
Oh holy god how this is needed, especially for my alphabetic-by-storage-rack system of 9 racks. Sort by quantity, too, rarity, etc., like other things.

Ya, add as an alternative, not a replacment. I use the invis-from-bottom for building!

    * speaking of beacons, fix the bug that is displaying the "destroyed" artwork as default for Grandville & Pocket D. The artwork for these already exists! They are in the files! They are simply not being read correctly.

NO NO NO NO NO!!! >:-( Create an optional variant that is fixed, perhaps. I love my burned up one. You need to see how it is placed in my base to understand, but "fixing" it will totally wreck the placement.

    teleport bind?

I just leave it slot 1 of toolbar 1 and hit 1 (or whatever) to tp.

Allows me to tp easily and quickly enough to not have any problems whatsoever. Never taken "hover" as an auxiliary.
  20. Hi, I've got my own VG in which I've put tons and tons of work (and I don't mean stacking desks). I'd like to join a big coalition, or coalition with a giant VG.

I cannot switch any characters to your VG as I need every bit of prestige I can get (and fully intend to keep earning prestige for my VG, I want to state that right away) but I do have quite a base and can help with cool structures in yours if desired.

PST to @Halon (global handle) during the game in the evenings (EST-ish) if interested. I can give you a tour to show I'm not full of hot air.

Would be nice. But there's a bizarre "make a ship in a bottle" aspect to designing awesome things. Still, direct placement in 3-space without needing to use stacking would be nice.

So, too, an undo-type operation, especially given how easy it is to perma-goof a placement so you have to delete and re-start the placement.

The "apartment" option would also allow players to have their own decorative spaces without exposing supergroups to the danger of giving edit priviledges to those that could abuse it.
THANK YOU!!! I have a vanity SG with just me that I have done 100+ hours of work on to make really fancy things (and not a damned one uses stacked desks, lol) I am totally terrified of losing control of the SG and all this get trashed, so I don't let anyone else in except temporarily to have them invite my alts. You'd be surprised what some buffoon would think they need to change, or need to delete so they can make their own "cool" rectangular desk-room.

Part of that could be rectified if I could just promote my alts without them being online, which is currently impossible.
  22. By the way, the reason these don't all work so well is not because of the base 3D world, but rather other things like the camera position, or things like health bars floating above monster heads.

Floaties can be "out in the 3D world", in which case they should render correctly, or they can be simulated but actually in the flat plane, in which case they'd appear way up in your face. In other words, the game makes it look like it's floating over someone's head, but actually it's right in the same plane as the HUD portion, just scaled in size for distance (if scaled at all.)

Lights and other effects can turn out similarly nasty since they're not done as "true 3D out there" in the 3D virtual world, but rather they rely on other tricks and just look like it.

Shadows are another problem. In some 3D games, look how the shadows move irregularly as you move your (non-3D HUD) around. Now remember NVidia 3D works by generating viewpoints as if through two offset eyeballs. That little difference cause the shadow rendering to be different enough that it doesn't match up well as a binocular vision sight.

The shadows are an unrealistic faking using little tricks, which yields noticeably different "results" with tiny camera movements, and the brain cannot synchronize the two radically different "shadows".

And that's how a "driver/sw/hw"-only solution for an otherwise non-tailored game can look like crap when auto-3D'd by the drivers.

DDO, for example, has the floaty problem, so you have to turn off monster health bars, and there's no HUD-level way to track it

I, on the other hand, am 44, grew up with red/blue and other 3D stuff (watched the 3D Married with Children episode, which was yet another non-red/blue method, worked with normal, pre-HDTVs, though the effect was much subtler. Peg's hooters are awesome!) and came out of Avatar thinking, sheesh, I want all movies and games to be that way 100% of the time.

It's not because of the novelty, but because of the additional immersive effect.
  24. I'm totally onboard for 3D in games, and I like this stuff precisely because it's *not* the old red/blue stuff, which messes up colors, of course.

I was hoping somebody who had this, perhaps for some other game, could say if they could use it for City of Heroes. A lack of any such positive responses is disturbing.

Is there anyone who actually has this and can say if it works on CoH or not (regardless of whether you actually want to use it for CoH or not.)

We need to solve "should, in theory" before spending $500 or more to get a system upgraded. I have a 3D capable card, but not a monitor, so I'd need that and the base glasses package itself.
