Is there any impact on NCSoft Master accounts that have more than one CoH Game account under them as far as the shift to CoH Freedom? I don't imagine there would be, but I have friends that had the same master account but had separate game accounts and want to make sure they will both be able to come back as premium, or for that matter will be able to create a third free account for their son should he now choose to play, which they could later easily move to VIP.
-
Quote:So if I am a VIP, drop to premium and unlock a new character slot to play a new character, when I go back to VIP I will be locked out of that new slot because I did not have it unlocked when I was a VIP?
* Does a VIP player get to reassign their slots if they dropped down to Premium (allowing them to choose what characters to play and what servers) and then goes back to VIP?
Going back to VIP in this case will revert your slot assignments to what they were when you were last VIP. Characters over 12 on a server where you did not have slots will be locked.
This just feels wrong. I understand it, and I don't see an easy answer unless you give VIPs the "reset all of my global slot unlocks" option at some interval, but I do see this could provide quite a bit of negative feedback when it happens unexpectedly to someone who PAYS to return to VIP status from premium. -
Quote:I think this illuminates something that was not entirely clear in previous discussion, at least for me. There is yet another reward structure beyond the Paragon reward tokens. This reward structure is similar to the vet rewards, in that there will be AUTOMATIC unlocks based on length of subscription.
However, the Paragon Rewards program has an unlock for Masterminds and Controllers at Tier 5 (which is about a three-year CoH veteran status).
Can we call this reward structure something else to avoid confusion. Something like "Loyalty Tiers" or something, listing what it takes to reach each tier and the rewards for that tier. Such as:
Loyalty Tier 1 (accumulated 6 months paid subscriptions): 1 rename token
Loyalty Tier 2 (accumulated 12 months of paid subscriptions): 1 global slot unlock token
My concern here is that you will have people coming back who PAY to unlock something like access to MMs, not realizing that they will unlock it automatically with two more months of VIP subscription. -
Quote:Something to consider here is what happens when you transfer your SG to a server which already has an SG with the same name. If this leads to SG rename tech, please realize that this has long been requested by the SGs and would be a much welcome feature independent of the transfers.
Supergroup Transfers (Including bases)
This is something we anticipated and are actively working on, but it likely wont be ready for City of Heroes Freedoms launch. We are committing to bringing you this service in the future and it wont be just to the VIP server, it will be between any server. It will likely require the Supergroups Super Leader to actually execute the transfer. -
Some questions:
Can I delete a character without first unlocking it (to free up the name, for example)?
What happens if I have unlocked a character but later delete it? Do I have an unlocked slot to create a character, or do I get the global unlock back so that I can choose to either unlock an existing character OR create a new one? Obviously the latter would be preferred.
If I drop VIP, then unlock all possible slots, then switch back to VIP for a couple of months, then drop back to premium, do I start over with my global unlocks and choose from scratch what to unlock or do the first round of slots that I chose remain unlocked instead?
How about a "reset global unlocks" available once per month in case I change my mind on which characters I want unlocked?
Although I plan to keep my account active, I have two alt accounts, one with 60 months or so of vet rewards and one with about 9 months. Those haven't been active for about a year now, so it will be nice to see them gain, and I'd like to know how they are going to operate -

Quote:Could you provide these examples again, or a link? Not all Global ID systems are created equal. I've described other systems in my past posts because of those who point to Cryptic's method and say that all global ID systems are just as bad.
I'm not totally opposed to Cryptic's method, but I do see its flaws. I might be willing to live with those flaws, but I am not convinced. However, if there is a better solution then I would like to ponder that as well. -
I wouldn't mind having one of the incarnate slots tied to incarnate pvp content. Again, why ignore any aspect of the game at the end game level, although some would argue that the ship on PvP has long ago sailed, and there is probably no hope of bringing it back in a meaningful way. If they were to try incarnate pvp, I would like to see it with a real purpose and with a pvp "mission" style, not just free for all pvp, but that's a topic in itself.
I would even like to see a way to integrate the Architect system into end game content, being extra mindful of the balance between fun, reward, and non-exploitable content. The architect system is an amazing addition to the game that has tons of unrealized potential on so many levels.
And, while we are wishing, how about more supergroup mission content, whether incarnate related or not. -
Thanks for the note from the April update. That does give some hope. I would prefer to see acknowledgement that at least one (possibly two) of the remaining slots will be tied to solo content, but that statement is a start.
One thing I will probably never understand is why so many forum posters seem to think in black and white. We can have both group end game content, and solo end game content. I don't want solo incarnate content because I hate grouping. I like grouping. CoH has one of the best team experiences out there. But I also like solo content.
The solo content gives a lot richer story flavor, and there are times when I don't have time for a raid, but I have just enough time for a mission or two. However, I would be unhappy if they did not have end game group content, and I am glad that's where they started. It is because I think this content successful and enjoyable that I would also like to see it applied to another aspect of the game that I enjoy. -
I'm not complaining about the current content, the trials are cool and the raid-like content was something that the end game was much in need of. I am also not complaining about how sparse the incarnate component drops are for the solo player. The slots thus far have been developed with the intent that players would team, and team often, to attain the rewards.
What I am hoping to hear, however, is that this is not the only plan for the remaining incarnate slots. Please tell me that some of the remaining incarnate slots will have progression based on new, interesting, incarnate only content that is solo-play friendly. It would be amazing the Vitae and/or Genesis slots would have this style of play as the foundation for their incarnate experience.
It's great that we have exciting end game content for large teams (and many kudos for that), but lets not leave out the solo play out of the end game, please. -
So what are the rewards now? Are IoPs back? Ot is it trial type rewards?

Its been so long since we could do this, I forgot.

Some good ideas here. I have recently become more active in CoH again, but I have little incentive to get back into writing MA Arcs, even though I enjoy creating them. The problem is, every time I have this great idea about a custom group or custom enemy that I want to create, I get discouraged by the fact that I must either make them too tough for a good chunk of the playerbase, or else they will be subpar on the rewards side causing a different segment to complain.
Give incentive to players to play the content and that's 75% of the incentive for most to create the content.
Of course, the search interface needs serious help as well. -
I recall that there used to be a calendar for official events like rikti invasions, double xp weekends, etc. Does this still exist, and if so where? I have only been able to find the player events calendar.

Thanks from me as well, Hero Prime. I will enjoy Hack greatly. Thanks also for the effort in making the name exchange happen in game.

I would like to submit for the name Hack
(btw: This is a great way to do this. I am inspired to do the same during my next name purge if I manage to have names worthy)
Charlotte was picked from a Grandville orphanage at the age of twelve to become one of the elite of Arachnos, a Crab Spider. Her quick analytical thinking and her unmatched understanding of special relationships caused her to excel among her peers. Charlotte did not always agree with the things she was ordered to do, but she firmly believed in law, order, and discipline.
When the brightest and most talented of the Crab Spiders were selected for a new experimental program, Charlotte was one of the first chosen. The program was designed to expand the awareness of the chosen candidates eight-fold, creating a superior strategic soldier, capable of out-thinking any opponent. The experiment proved highly unsuccessful, causing fatalities due to aneurism in most. The few who survived were driven insane, Charlotte included. They were discarded into the gutters of Mercy, another forgotten obstacle to the novice villains who would be the chosen.
Unlike the rest, Charlotte did not go gentle into that good night. Her desire for order was strong, and slowly her brain overcame the entropy that it had been subjected to. Her increased awareness and ability to cognitively process a great deal of simultaneous input, along with a few extra appendages for the manipulation of data, led her to the new world of cyber crime. She soon became bored of the brute attacks, and began to focus on more subtle interests. It didnt take her long to discover that the most profit, and the most power, came from the commodity of information. Now the leader of a rogue group of operatives known as Network, Charlotte goes by the name given to her by her cyber surfing peers
Hack
(OOC: Just wanted to note that Charlotte is not a new character, and that the villain group Network was created by me early after the start of CoV. The above information only needed slight modification. I have always seen her as the crab spider version of Oracle, using her extra appendages to manipulate 6-8 data streams at a time as she ruled the interweb. For me, it seemed she had always been meant to have the name Hack)

I'd pay. How much I would pay is relative to how much they put in, all the way up to $0-$50 for a major construction tool that would allow for freeform design, maybe even allowing for custom architect rooms as well.
Step one for a major base overhaul is to shelve the idea of making it PvP friendly. Raids should not be a focus, or even a consideration. There are tons of things they could do to make it useful if that goal was removed.
Not that I am anti-pvp. Its just that PvP and full customization of the setting do not mix well.
CoH shines even today over the competition because of its customization. Its time, past time, for bases to get their due. -
Quote:This. So much this. The menus need to be redone, period. Whether you go with option 1 OR 2, they need to be redone.
It is inevitable and unavoidable.
The only question is, do you want to re-vamp the menus now, when your pile of crap is only calf deep?
OR do you really prefer to wait until the pile gets up to your hips?
.
I will say that if the wing head piece is an example of an improved costume piece, then I definitely want both pieces available. While the newer piece looks nice, it doesn't necessarily work as a direct replacement for all of my characters that use that piece. Specifically it does not work for my forum namesake, who has had the original wings w/ headband since CoH beta. -
Quote:I am sure there are some that feel that way. I guess my slight concern is that the new pieces would not quite look like the old ones in some way that might seem insignificant to the artist revamping the piece, but that the player may consider aesthetically devastating to their character image.
Would you really use the legacy asset w/ older, blurrier texture if a cleaner, sharper version was available to you? If so, I'd love to understand why you feel that way.
I feel this is a slim chance, however.
If option 2 is considered, then I think the legacy items should not show up in the menu by default. You should have to click a toggle to get them into the menu. -
Certainly some exciting news about i19 & i20!
Apex... I would much prefer that they kept /some/ of the classic look, as others have suggested and even mocked up in the creator.
Inherent Fitness is cool. Nothing but gain, for certain. I'll probably take leadership on my MMs that did not have it, maybe. Mostly I'll go for concept, like taking some of the powers I skipped out on in the primary or secondary. It definitely helps on the early side, allowing you to get more powers into the mix without having to worry about the Road to Stamina.

Personally I would prefer they just make names non-exclusive altogether.
Failing that, I would suggest tying a name purge to veteran reward time. If you have not received and vet reward time, and have been inactive for over 90 days all character names under level 20 are purged. If you have at least one vet badge (3 months subscribe time) and have been inactive over 120 days, all character names under level 10 are purged. If you have a one year vet badge, all of your character names are protected, period.
I understand that if someone has been gone for 4 years its frustrating not to be able to snag their name, but if they gave a year of their time and money to support the game, I'm ok with them keeping their name for potential future use.
Still, making names non-exclusive is the best option to help out the new players that are coming in for the first time. -

Cool, thanks Kat.
For the leader star, does it auto transfer down after a certain period? If so, what happens if there isn't someone at the next rank down, will it stay indefinitely or pass down to someone on tier 3?
Jut curious. I am considering opening up my personal SG to others. Its got some great elements in it and its always fun to share. If I could absolutely guarantee leadership would not transfer if I had some kind of real life issue and could not get in game, it would make that decision easier.
Would be nice if they had added z-axis controls, tintable interior walls and floors, and some bedroom furniture. But the storage permissions per bin is sweet -
Deleted a few characters on this server and freed up the names. Not earth shattering names, but maybe someone will find them useful

Hi all.
Its been about 14 months or so since I have had this account active. Anything new on the base building scene? Either dev wise or any amazing tips and tricks I should not miss?
