I did this just a couple of days ago on my Kat/Dark. Went pretty quick. Think it took me 2 hours, but I was also killing overseers for my Rularuu katana and paragon protectors for their badge, since there were a lot of them there too.
-
I've always liked Dark armor, because it's so very well balanced between resists, defenses, and healing. It provides you a lot of exotic and resists that you just don't get from many other sets, such as psionic and toxic.
I have actually never really given Katana a serious try until I saw a discussion that Werner was having over a Kat/Regen build. I ended up giving Kat/Dark a try and in doing some research on that found Werner already had a very successful Kat/Dark build and while quite expensive turns out to be well worth the investment.
I've nearly completed my Kat/Dark with just a few HO's and a single purple missing from my build. Already, my survivability is extremely high in both regular and incarnate content. The only issue has been endurance consumption which becomes far more managable when you get cardic alpha.
Divine avalanche always you to fill in a gap that you normally would be able to build for and allows you to bolster other aspects leaving your build quite balanced. Even exemped down, Kat/Dark has remained a potent combination. I find that I run much less of my toggles at lowever level, but dark regeneration is probably the most potent scrapper healing ability in the game when you are able to get a decent level of saturation on it.
I, too, highly recommend Katana/Dark as a more than viable Dark scrapper. All of Werner's suggestions seem to be the most popular and well thought of Dark combinations. -
Quote:Claws is probably my favorite set as well. The mix of single target and AoE seems just right to me and spin is absolutely awesome. I have a DM/SR that I like, but haven't played her in quite a while. I had a DM/DA that just didn't work out for me, but that was before IOs. I love my Kat/DA, but I don't know if I'd revisit a DM/DA.DM was always my favourite melee set until the animation changes hit claws, for some reason I'd never really invested in claws before. I know DM doesn't have the AoE of other sets but I've always liked being the one to run up to the biggest and toughest looking foe and have at it when I play melee.
That's not to say I don't AoE melee sets, but if a TF or Trial is looming and I decide to pull out a scrapper it's always DM or Claws I go for. I know my Fire/Shield could do just as good a job but I don't see many other DM/WP or Claw/Invs on trials (on my home sever of defiant read Claw/WP and DM/SR which I did see plenty of others of cause pre-ios DM/SR was good for standing toe to toe with AVs and Claw/WP was simply the most fun thing I levelled.)
If I thought I could afford another Invul build I'd probably make a DM/Inv but my cheapest inv came out at 2billion. For some reason it isn't a set I can build a cheap version, it can start of cheap but by the time I end up actually making it happen a lot more cost has seeped in some how.
Hell I'd love a Fire or Elec melee invul scrapper too, its just a set that can cover lots of holes well and you don't need to worry about synergy as much as others, DA can be good but I find I need something to break the alpha or my endurance dies fast. SR works really well with the top up heal from DM but without it I feel weak. Obviously they're gaps that can be filled but its nice to have a secondary that doesn't need that to make it powerful.
For primaries I just tend to dislike sets I find ugly and Broad Sword. I dont find broad sword ugly but it was my test for solo levelling speed during a double XP weekend a while back and while I found it levelled quickly it was the dullest 16 hours I've spent in game. This was pre AE which kinda changed that with being able to build maps to suit your alt.......... I've really wandered off topic now, you shouldn't let me do that
Now that my Kat/DA is reaching his final stages of constructing his build, I'm eyeing my next character and have been considering the DM/Inv as it has been suggested multiple times as the most durable scrapper.
I've been fussing with a DM/Elec in mids over and over seeing if I can build something comparable. I really like the resists on Elec and the added AoE capablility from lightning field. Lightning field with shadow maul wouldn't be so bad. Even if you just focused on bosses and lts. most of the minions would just die from the incidental damage from lightning field. I had also pondered the endurance drain capability of power sink and lightning field together. Maybe even with the Ion judgement later on.
However, the biggest downfall is the defense capablility with elec. It really only seems reasonable or only possible to softcap one type or position (Haven't treally tried the latter). I would think that the healing capability on DM/Elec would be more reliable than DM/Invul just due to the fact that you can use energize quite more often than dull pain, though the HP boost from dull pain is extremely valuable. I've found that I really do prefer solid non-haste reliant builds though. It's a tough choice as far as compromising survivability, ultility, and ultimately fun.
I enjoy having near indestructible characters. Surviving insurmountable odds is incredibly fun. I recently had one of my better experiences with my Kat/Dark against dozens upon dozen of rikti in LGTF. They just couldn't hurt me no matter what they through at me or how many there were. Sadly, my teammates were dropping left and right and there wasn't much I could do about it. I've considered going Tank, but my Stone/Stone while fun was horribly boring simply, because it took me eons to kill anything. -
The Republic of Impovered Masses will rewelcome you with open arms soon, if you're anything like me. :P
Always outfitting another character as soon as the current one is done.
I don't think I've ever kept a billion on me long enough for it to matter as a status. -
Just picked up Armageddon: Damage
If anyone is interested in trading for a Armageddon: Acc/Rech let me know. -
Quote:Elec is a great set for resists. You can cap energy resists easily, get very high S/L resists, and fairly good resists for fire/cold etc.so i really like the concept of a KAt/elec, love the electricity flowing around the toon and such, but is elec even decent? and what should i work on as far as build wise, i want to be survivable, S&L res? let me know your opinon on elec, and if i can make a strong toon out of it
Katana helps it out a lot by providing a bit more defense in melee and a good deal of defense against many ranged attacks (Mainly things like bullets that do lethal damage).
Since elec really has no defensive bonuses it's hard to (maybe not even possible, I don't know) to cap more than one type or position. S/L defense is a good way to go and can be soft capped with a bit of work. I'm not certain what the trade off for this would be, but it is probably worth it considering that you have such strong resistances to back it up with a fairly decent heal in energize.
I don't know if you could work in aid self without losing too much from anything else, but another form out heal would be great with the build.
I'm certain there's a kat/elec build probably floating around out there though. -
Still have an Unbreakable Restraint: Chance for smashing damage.
If someone wants to be charitable and trade an Armageddon Acc/Rech for it. -

Quote:I've had these things for months. If I was "antsy" to get rid of them. They'd have been gone by now. Most big ticket items I see on these boards last a week before they're sold. Trades aren't very common, but at least give it till the weekend until you start getting antsy.
Asking the frequency of these trades occuring is hardly antsy. It is, however, a great way to find out what to expect.
@No Torius - That sounds like a fair trade to me. I'll send you a tell ingame shortly. -
I'm guessing trades like this don't happen often?
-
I have some purples sitting around that I am not going to use so I was hoping to trade them for purples that I do need.
I have the following for trade:
Hecatomb Dam/End
Apocalypse Dam/Acc/Rech
Unbreakable Restraint: Change for smashing damage.
I am looking to get:
Hecatomb Acc/Dam/Rech
Hecatomb Acc/Rech
Armageddon Acc/Rech
I do prefer a face to face trade after a deal is worked out. -
Quote:If they are account locked you should be able to pass them to yourself via e-mail right? They claim to be "account locked" such that you can't drop them into a base or trade or the market but can pass between characters. Without those tools, I don't see how it is possible to pass them, so until I have personal experience, I am considering them "character locked".

Quote:This for certain. The extra HP it gives you is great for a bit more padding against spike damage and the added regen can help, however, dull pain is such a large heal it's smart to save it for when you can make really use all the components of it.The buff is more important, but the heal IS still worthwhile. So don't just click Dull Pain every time it comes up. Wait until you're hurt. Then you have the buff AND you're at full hit points.
With siphon life as your primary heal, dull pain can sit back in your arsenal to cover you during a tough fight or through a particularly heavy hit. The less you have to use click heals the more useful they actually become in that they end up covering holes in your defenses rather than being your primary defense, if that makes sense. -
You know, I thought I could put that in perspective though.
I love dark melee as a single target set. It has incredible single target damage a wonderful self heal, an endurance recovery power, and all kinds of -tohit debuffs with a little AoE added in.
I still don't "like" dark melee though.
Doesn't mean I won't play the heck out of it either :P -
The range on spinning strike says 6' in mids. Is this correct or a misprint? I see 7' in the post above, so I'm just curious.
I think that just may make it the shortest range for a PBAoE I've seen. -
One thing that is true about any server is that it's the people that have these sort of attitudes or people that just wish to be jerks for their own amusment that are the most notiable.
That doesn't mean there is an issue with the server, it just means you've taken more note of this outlier behavior rather than the norm behavior, because the norm behavior is relatively unnoticable. It's typically just people that go about their business rarely saying anything on publc chat channels except for when they're looking for a team for something.
It seems to me the majority of actions showing typical server behavior takes place in teams, SG/VG chat, and coalition chat. I find the behavior in those areas to be far from what the original poster was declaring as the defining behavior of the server.
Public chat channels, you can take them or leave them. It's pretty easy to ignore the jerks and still get the benefits of those public channels. -
One of the only things I find merit rewards good for anymore.
-
Are these IOs still tradeable after boosted. Say I take one out of a build and want to pass it to one of my other characters.
Is that possible or not? I know you can't trade an enchancement that has been combined, such as a HO. -
Quote:Well, that's what I get for assuming they'd work. You can't use enhancement boosters on Hamios. I already checked that.
It's easy enough to see if 52 Hamios would make much difference - just plug them in and see where the defense values fall compared to our targets.
Melee down to 43% with one Divine Avalanche (oops!), but it was only 43.2% before (bigger oops!), still one purple from soft cap on ranged and AoE. Double Divine Avalanche still over incarnate soft cap melee and lethal.
Shadow Meld still hits incarnate soft cap ranged and AoE, regular soft cap psionic, regular soft cap melee with no Divine Avalanche.
Moment of Glory is still insane.
So the difference should be negligible, I'd say. I suspect that even L50 Hamios would make only a negligible difference, but I'll leave that to others to check if they're interested.
As far as endurance goes, I'm too lazy to check back through the thread or calculate, but I think the goal with my build was to be sustainable when using the two Divine Avalanche chain and with Tactics off. If I remember right, the build just squeaked by on paper. I don't think I checked that on anyone else's build, and I may even be misremembering on mine. And "my build" is a bit of a misnomer since I never built it.
I'm not sure the effect of the HOs in the regen build, but I tried switching out some of the HOs for other dual stat IOs on the /dark build and the difference were pretty significant difference simply, because none of those dual stat IO's can match the boost you get in both those stats on the HO you're using. A level 50 Enzyme gives you 33% defense, 33% endurance, 20% tohit.
The best I can do is replace it with a defense/endurance IO and those will only give ~16% defense and 26.5% endurance redux. The +3 HO gives 38% on both defense and endurance. An equal level dual stat IO that has been boosted to +5 doesn't even compare.
Oh well, I'm enjoying dark either way, even if it will take me a long long time to reach where you have yours. -
Quote:Of course it's subjective.* Tries desperately to argue against this subjective statement, but goes home in failure.
I didn't say Dark melee was bad or that shadow maul was bad. The Lack of AoE comment is in comparison to other sets, which typically have a least a PBAoE. Which I like better. I've had good use out of shadow maul, but I do much better with things like spin or fire sword circle or whirling hands etc.
I just said I didn't like them -
The forums are a great place for information.
Also a great place to run into people that like to argue just for the sake of it.
Best thing you can do is admit when you're wrong, be humble when you're right, and skip posts that simply look like they're in it for a fight rather than information. Most of the time, but not all of the time, you can tell the difference.
Now if they'd just make another primary that had a self heal in it, I'd be happy.
I hate dark melee. The lack of AoE is something I don't like. Furthermore, I have an intense dislike for shadowmaul. -
Quote:Let's just say that I finished leveling my Kat/Dark and was putting together a build when I came across werner's build for one. Sadly, I was excited that I found a good build, but discovered mine was trash in comparison.Forgive the mild necromancy.
Just pointing out that I have finally finished putting together the pieces for the Iggy "affordable" version of Werner's build (was being a cheapskate on some of the HOs so it took a while to get 'em all hehe). Very fun. Has serious endurance issues in long fights. I wasn't ever able to take out a pylon without using blues or lore.
But spectacular fun. Even managed to survive Antimatter's undivided attention for a minute and 6 seconds in a keyes run. Which impressed the hell out of me (and quite possibly involved a lot of luck, not sure). Could probably have kept surviving but that's when the tank came back and taunted him off me.
Elegost, have you built yours? How does it fare?
Also, on Werner's really expensive version, how would level 52 (or 50++ since there's no difference) HOs impact that build?
The 53 HO's make a huge magnitude in difference. Unfortunately getting your hands on them is next to impossible. Best thing you can do is run as many hami raids or LRSF's/STFs as much as you can and hope you get the HOs you need. Then you can use enhancement boosters to bring up their level.
I've been hashing up some old characters I never use to part out the build. I'm still short HOs and have none of the pvp sets. It just gives me something to work to. -
Ninjustu is my all time favorite secondary.
I'd love to have it on a scrapper.
I just hate playing stalkers so much.
Actually, I use to use smoke flash all the time to reset the mobs after ASing a boss down. Use to do it all the time doing +2/+3 missions. -
This sums up the whole of the game for me these days.

Quote:I had this same experience until I started making sure I had rage back up, before or during the crash, started using inspirations more wisely, and got my T4 spirit. It all made a huge difference.I find SS/fire to be way to squishy. I can't even stay alive doing +1/x8 tips. I'm using ss/fire/mu and it's a fully purpled out farming build from ultrawatt a year ago. He has level shift spiritual but no other incarnates. He just dies way too fast.
The only down side was I didn't care for FA so much.
