There won't be anything left to hold back if people keep talking about and posting info about leaked stuff on beta.

Oh, I'm not saying that I'm 100% positive all betas from now on will just be VIP betas. I'm just going on how things have been thus far. I could absolutely be wrong. To be honest, I'd rather the beta be closed; things seem to be a bit more focused.

If I22 and beta server access in general post-Freedom are any indication, there are no more closed betas; just VIP betas.
  4. Really, this whole thread is just one big excuse to invoke Arthur C Clarke.

And going by both developer random comments and the general gist of in-game stuff, Incarnate content is supposed to be our equivalent to "Cosmic Marvel".

EDIT: Damn you and your fast fingers, Liquid!

Even a heavily sci-fi-focused zone like RWZ has Vanguard wizards and Rikti magi, and a heavily magic-focused zone like DA still has prominent non-magical elements, like appearances from Malta and the 5th column.
Good question. It does kinda seem like some folks would rather see all things related to magic sort of cordoned off in their own little area, away from everything else.

Hell, if you want to split hairs even further, you can consider what Sister Psyche said during the Origin of Power Arc: That psionics might not be a mutation, but rather something else entirely.

Well, in the new trial, Black Swan can drain players of their Incarnate powers, and presumably of their level shifts. So that's one way of dealing with it.

My characters left Praetoria always hoping to go back home one day. In Maxi Pound's case, she -liked- her job there, liked protecting people from terrorists and nutters, and her parents lived in the city. Circumstances forced her to leave with her colleague, but she always hoped she'd be able to go home at one point, when saner minds liked Marchand, Washington and Kang could help change things for the better.

Zahir Rolando has plenty of painful memories of Praetoria after the restaurant he and his partner were in was bombed by Resistance terrorists. But it also held a lot of great memories for him, and the chance to maybe make some new ones.

Constance Svanhildr deserted the IDF. She joined to fight the Devouring Earth years ago, and Primal Earth was a stupid target in her view, one that distracted them from their main fight in her opinion. So she left, but she was never disloyal to Praetoria, not in her heart. Now, yet another mistake from the past will ruin thousands of lives.

It presents a problem for the Union RP community because of how RP developed on Union from its beginning back in 2005. The IC timeline for the vast majority of roleplayers that I know, is that a day in our reality is a day in theirs. Characters have aged over the past 7 years, and we've tried our hardest to incorporate things into our characters lives as they come up.

Someone mentioned Galaxy City earlier. The difference is that Galaxy City, when the meteors hit, was destroyed. Characters were caught up in it. Some lived, some died, some were changed forever. We had a fiction thread about it, there was roleplay, new ideas were born out of it.

This presents a different problem, in that if the three Praetorian starter zones don't change, then there's quite a gulf of disconnect, especially for people new to the Unionverse. You get people coming from non-nuked Praetoria when others think it is nuked, so on and so forth.

As such, it seems like it will have to be as it is with Statesman now. Until he's no longer in IP, he's still alive. Until Nova Praetoria and other areas show the effects of Tyrant's madness, it hasn't occurred. That'll lead to problems in the long run more than likely, but that's how it'll have to be. There's no chance of the devs changing what happens in the iTrial, so we just have to deal. We already were able to thrash things out regarding Mot and the storyline updates in Dark Astoria (A large coalition of heroes and villains did interfering action on Tuesday in Astoria, to buy the NPC's time to do what they had to.)

It may seem crazy to some people, but the Unionverse has been alive and breathing for years now, with characters and player plots and incidents from seven years ago and onwards still coming up, being referenced, and having shaped out characters to how they are this day.

I apologies for the ramble, but it's been a long day that seems to have ended with a bit of a kick.
As someone who's been a roleplaying for a few decades across various forms of media, I say this with the utmost respect: Adapt. If your RP group is insistent upon declaring Praetoria a post-apocalyptic wasteland due to what happens during an instanced trial, then adapt it to your RP and roll with it.

Well, now they're dead, have fun. -_-
You DO realize that the in-game timeline is usually flexible with regard to character advancement, right? That you can start a Praetorian character right now and that the Praetoria you experience is pre-Incarnate trial? It's the same way that Blyde Square in Steel Canyon still exists despite it being destroyed by Battle Maiden during the Tin Mage(?) Task Force, and the Antimatter reactors in Keyes Island are still functional despite them being shut down during the KIR.

I'd be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very surprised if the actual zone of Nova Praetoria is a smoking crater come I23.

    Two words: Dev Hackery.

... Or, it is too short, and the devs buff it during beta, which starts later THIS WEEK, might I add.
  11. Television moved to Paragon's new project. This was stated by Zwillinger during the Ustream where new programmer/engineer Neon Walker was introduced to us.

I also really enjoyed them fleshing out his story and the new battle mechanic with him, and still hope to see a Warburg TF some day.
This, of course, assumes he's back in Warburg. All we know is that "a mysterious group" broke him out of custody and whisked him off to some unknown destination.

  17. I use them. My main always has Envenomed Daggers, Med Kits, Recovery Serums, and a Jet Pack on-hand just in case I need 'em. I'll also craft Hand Grenades and Stun Grenades as needed for other characters of mine.

This, plus the fact that some of the for-sale powersets have required additional resources outside of what most powersets require -- mechanics like Momentum for Titan Weapons, two-handed weapon animations for Staff Fighting, or an entirely new rig for Beast Mastery.
  21. That's odd.

I first encountered "Boss Name" during beta, but it wasn't there in place of Martin Henri; it was just an NPC standing outside the room where I fought Henri. And when I played through the arc when I22 hit live, the NPC had been removed. Soooo ... probably patch 1 re-introduced the bug?

That's how it worked if you were leveling up organically and were below 25. If you were above those levels, you automatically got all three extra slots at once.

As for why it bugged out: I'm not privy to any sort of inside info, but given that level 50 characters had their purple IOs vanish when they got the new slots, I'm thinking maybe power and enhancement slot gain is REALLY hard-coded into a character's level, and that the game interpreted those extra slots as a character being level 51 (or something similar), thereby taking away the IOs that are only available at level 50. And from there, I can see how a bunch of other stuff could be affected. But again, this is just me taking a wild guess based off of one piece of anecdotal evidence.

  24. It's like Inception, but on a vastly smaller budget.
  25. The team knows about it, so go find something else to pass the time until this unexpected downtime ends.
