Quote:Feedback is a funny thing.I don't expect anyone but the Community Team to keep organization in the forums. I do like to gather feedback before making changes.
This is an exercise in feedback.
When the community I was a mod/pseudo-admin for wanted to do some de-cluttering, we also solicited feedback. The result was that the board for the community actually GREW by about 20%. -

Quote:First Ward is ... different.I was also wondering if First Ward have anything to do with Praetoria? Yes, I know it's in Preatoria, and all the backstory behind it, I mean, is it at all related to the Resistance vs. Loyalist thing, or is it just another zone?
It's very existence and the tragedy of what happened to it are directly responsible for the Praetoria you experience as a 1-20 Praetorian. But since it was all but abandoned, it's current story is only tangentially connected to the current Praetorian storyline. Sure, you get little threads of connection -- DUST using it as a training ground, Mother Mayhem running her "hospital" away from the eyes of the average Praetorian citizens, Noble Savage and "others" keeping the Ghouls from overrunning Praetoria, and the answer to where all the magic in Praetoria has gone.
But it's fairly self-contained within the Praetoria meta-story, serving to show what happened in the past and what might happen in the future. -
1. Where's your question?
2. Comparing NCSoft to your former employer is like comparing apples and oranges.
3. You're apparently highly uninformed about what's been going on in NCSoft's Texas offices lately -
If I buy anything from the set, it'll be the boots; the non-spiked version makes for a cool-looking non-magical pair of boots. I'm on the fence about the belt, as it's closer to a big Kheldian-style sash than anything else we've had, but still isn't thematically what I'm looking for in such a piece. I'm unfortunately not really interested in anything else.

As said here and elsewhere, those aren't "hairband ears" -- they're the techy goggles/glasses she had on in earlier pics, only rotated up. That they resemble cat ears in this position is either intentional or a wink and nod.

The updated rules read as pretty standard fare. No complaints or suggestions.
As for re-working the board, here's my humble suggestion:
News, Events & Announcements
- Announcements
- Discussion
- Developers' Corner
- Developer Digest
- Community Digest
- Suggestions & Ideas
- Paragon Market & Paragon Rewards
- Training Room
- Copy Tool
- Player Questions
- Player Guides
- Gameplay & Technical Issues (mac user forum either merged into this or as a child forum)
- In-Game Systems (below sections would be child forums)
Archetypes & Powers - Leave as-is if possible- Badges & Gladiators
- Base Construction
- Inventions & Auction House
- Mission Architect
- Player vs Player
For Fun
- CoH: Freedom General Discussion (merged w/ EU & Oceanic if possible)
- Player Events or Calendar
- Role-Playing
- Comic & Hero/Villain Culture
- Multimedia & Fan Creations
- Forum Games
NOTE: I'm not happy with the placement of the For Fun section in this proposed layout. It's sandwiched between two substantially larger sections, which really diminishes it. I'd like for it to be somewhere above Archetypes & Powers, but can't decide on an appropriate spot.
Also, as already mentioned, CSS manipulation of fonts and spacing can help to further reduce a sense of "bloatedness" -

Just popping in and out to make a single point:
The purpose of creating a "Premium" player class was not so that all currently-subscribed players could unsubscribe; it was to entice both new free players and returning former subscribers to become and remain subscribers. Subscriptions are still intended to be this game's primary source of revenue; this has been explicitly stated by the developers. As such, there will be some major things locked behind subscription so as to make subscriber/VIP the preferred player status. And in looking through the Paragon Market and Paragon Rewards system, Incarnate content is one of the very few things that is truly only available to VIPs. -
Man, check out the thumb crook Posi's got going on. That's some grade-A finger giving right there.

Quote:For reference, "super tailors" are tailors that can alter your gender as well as your costume. The RWZ Icon NPC, Trina in the Pocket D Tiki lounge, and any Icon/Facemaker NPC with "surgeon" in their name are all super tailors. You might not have noticed them because the functionality required the Science Booster to function; not sure if this has changed with Freedom.I didn't think to try different types of tailors. I'll have to give that a shot when I get home.
VEATs (soldiers, at least) were giving them trouble all throughout the I21 beta, and I'm glad to see that this bug is finally in the QA pipeline. -

For those who have ... difficulties ... with the arc exemplaring you down to 20: I was looking through Ouroboros to find a mission to run when I came across the contact for the 4th part of the story (obviously not yet available), and she's in the 40s. So no, the entire story won't be as low as this part. This was just done so that the writers could, y'know, tell the story they wanted to tell using the enemy groups they wanted to use.

Quote:Once I started the arc, I got the green marker. But prior to speaking with Alastar, there was no indication on my Cap Au Diable map of where he was. I even turned off everything but all the contacts and special, but still didn't see any marker. There are markers for them on the map, they're contact icons. (General directions: at the cop shop in Skyway City, on the boardwalk east of the south ferry in Cap au Diable.)
Quote:My final thought was: what is Penn Jilette doing in these arcs, and why is he hanging out at the Monkey Fight Club in Sharkhead? -
There's already a little discussion about the first part of the first Signature Story scattered across a couple of threads, but no consolidated place for discussion and feedback. So here we are! And for those not aware: the arc went live both in the Paragon Market and in-game at about midnight Pacific time. I've so far run the villain version.
An initial problem is that, while you do get a pop-up box introducing you to the contact, the contact does not have a waypoint on the actual map. It took me going to the wiki and a post from Warden De Dios to find Alastar, the ghostly contact in Cap Au Diable. Another issue is that one of the mission minimaps doesn't properly align, but it's not a big thing.
The arc itself operates like an Ouroboros Arc, complete with optional challenge settings. This first arc auto-exemplars players to level 20 if they're beyond that.
Without getting into spoilers too much, I do like the inclusion of Pumicites as one of the enemy groups you face. They have a neat aesthetic and don't get nearly as much face time as they should. They're a logical choice to explain how things go from point A to point B within the arc. They also provide an in-game reason for the AWESOME new lava-flooded Orenbaga maps (as well as the fantastic final map) to exist. The story itself is alright. Not "blow you out of the water incredible", but this is just the first of seven parts to this story; it's meant to establish things.
Speaking of the final map: part of me wonders if this is a pretty big hint about the next zone to be redone. -
Quote:Really? REALLY?It was pretty weak, in my opinion.
All this build up and it's just a 3 mission arc with a cliffhanger that span seven episodes? The cliffhanger and multiple episodes were not unexpected, but it's still somewhat annoying that the arc was so short, yet was given so much hype about being great new content free to VIPs. Consider: If it comes out one "episode" per month, this death arc won't conclude until March of next year!
To be honest, it hardly felt like a "signature story arc" when the game has level 25-30 contacts that have more involved mission chains than this. Saving Statesman from Tyrant feels like a signature story arc. This felt like an Ouro flashback with a "To Be Continued... (Next Month)".
It's like 1/7th of the story; the writers aren't going to put all their eggs in one basket. They have plenty of time and missions with which to turn everything up. This arc was basically the set-up. -
Thanks for the /loc!
Edit: For those who haven't run it yet, it exemplars you back to level 20; just a heads-up. -
The first signature story arc just became available in the store. I got a pop up for the villain contact upon logging in a few minutes ago, but can't find him in-game as he doesn't appear in any of my contact lists.

Quote:I disagree with including AE. Based on interviews, Ustreams, and other developer comments, it seems like the for the system to progress any further to allow things like custom maps and spawn placement, some non-trivial tech hurdles must be jumped. And don't forget PvP and AE as two other forgotten stepchildren of progress.
PvP, on the other hand, is more a case of resource and time allocation issues. As I said earlier about the base system, the best way to handle PvP would be to have a semi-permanent team devoted to its development. This would prevent situations like the I13 changes, where what was implemented did not reflect the full extent of what was intended, and time/resource allocation became largely impossible due to much larger projects entering development. -
In my opinion, the really big problem with the base system is that it is very likely NOT the final version of what the developers had in mind. Remember that almost all of Cryptic's staff post-CoV release was transferred to work on the nebulous Marvel MMO, leaving the remaining 14 devs to be very careful about which systems got resources allocated to them. And as those of us who do work on bases are aware, aside from a few mechanical changes and some veteran rewards, the base system itself is more or less the same as it was almost six years ago. Heck, it's actually less than what it was because there's no raiding and no actual Items of Power from CoP trials to display in your base anymore.
I feel the base system needs a strike team devoted to its continued development in order to build it up to where it should honestly be in the CoH of 2011; minor tweaks and changes just won't get it done. To be perfectly honest, the only solution might be to scrap the current system and build it up from scratch. And if there would be a way for those of us who've literally spent millions upon millions in Prestige on our bases to get our investment back, I'd be all for getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. But we don't know exactly what the devs have in store for bases or how long it'll take, so there's no point worrying about it just yet. -
Quote:Combining Standard and Masks With Hair, a couple of things got overlooked. It happens. Be sure to bug it in-game in addition to the post you've made here.Sonic vision was removed from standard for some reason and it was available on mask with hair which was the work around... but NOW since issue 21 that is no longer an option any more... sonic vision is available on full masks but then you have to give up hair so what it comes down to is I cannot change anything at the taylor without losing sonic vision or hair... so I'm stuck with one costume until they fix this IF they fix it... makes no sense why it's not on standard especially when it was part of a booster pack you had to buy at the time... Last night, my Crab Spider ran through all of Dr. Graves' story arcs via Ouroboros. I just logged in to start going through the rest of the new Mercy contacts and have found that I cannot actually accept any of their missions. I click on the accept text, but nothing happens. In looking at my system chat messages, I see the following:
Quote:I've learned that the same is true for the new hero arcs as well. This is a departure from the way Ouroboros missions have been set up prior to I21, and in the case of VEATs who cannot start Operative Kuzmin's arc at all because he tells them to speak with Alan Dessock but doesn't actually give any missions, kinda crappy because we're cut out of Ouroboros content for our side. You and everyone on your team must not have Fire Wire's story arc as an active arc, must have completed Operative Kuzmin's arc, and be over level 7 to begin his flashback.
Whether requiring the new starter contacts to be run in a certain order in Ouroboros is a bug or a deliberate design decision, I ask that this restriction be removed. At the least, make VEATs able to run Kuzmin's arc. -
It doesn't matter, because the masks ARE still there regardless of what they're called. When combining Standard and Masks With Hair into a single unified category, the original faces and masks listing somehow got copied and added to the newer, more comprehensive listing, resulting in several duplicate entries. That mistake was corrected, hence the "Small Mask" options no longer being available.
