I then pointed out to him that what would be Really Useful is a dual use "Map Editor" which would be cross-compatible with both SG Bases and Mission Architect so as to allow for more broadly defined User Created Environments.

YES ... it would be tremendous undertaking (think easily a year or two once a commitment is made to go ahead) ... but at the same time, the rewards of actually overhauling (and documenting?) the game code that makes these things possible would at the same time be an excellent opportunity to streamline and update Developer Tools for creating environments as well, not just Player Accessible Tools for doing the same thing. My point being that the Developers could "get as much out of" such an effort as the Players, and the end result would be a far more stable, and expansionable part of the game allowing User Created Content.

So if you do it *RIGHT* you achieve the all important Two Birds With One Stone aspect (or even Three, depending on how you tie everything together and code it all on the back end).
So ... you pointed things out to him that he and other developers were likely already aware of? Because you don't have to be a genius to figure out that the base system is in an unfinished state due to the folks working on it being shuffled off to the failed Cryptic/Marvel MMO. And that it will probably stay in an unfinished state thanks to those developers not leaving adequate documentation about the system when they left.

And while a complete overhaul of bases would be great, the return on such an investment makes it highly unattractive. Bases exist to serve three practical purposes: storage, transportation, and (theoretically) content in the form of raids. Everything else is extraneous. There's currently adequate storage for most individual players via character inventory and the vault reserve, and storage can be increased for a price. Transportation is absurdly easy now thanks to the ferry/tram system, Pocket D, Ouroboros, and the other various available teleportation powers. As for raids ... well, the fact that they were never fully online speaks volumes. Additionally, PvP would really need to be balanced before you'd want to activate raiding. And PvP is another legacy system that honestly needs to be completely scrapped and rebuilt from scratch, one that at this point would provide a better return on investment than bases (although possibly still not enough to get it on the schedule at Paragon Studios).

    Arachnos ATOs

I run a fairly tight build on my Crab, so I don't have many options available when it comes to slotting that don't cause me to lose other bonuses I desire. Can't slot the set into one of my targeted AoEs because doing so would cost me a Positron's Blast set and thus screw my attack range up. Thankfully, the proc never did anything for me, so I only need to slot 5 enhancers.

At this point, it looks like DoA is going into Longfang to compliment the Apocalypse set in Channelgun (both powers use 5/6ths of the sets due to me having Achilles Heel procs in them as well).
  3. Just installed the 12.1 driver for use with my 5850. In the open world, my framerate's taken a little dip from where it used to be. I still need to see what my rate is like during instanced maps and on trials.

Thankfully, Bill isn't representative of most solo players. He is, however, representative of giant, industrial, laser-guided circular saws with diamond-coated titanium blades.

Depending on how lucky I get with ATOs and Enhancement converters in the 10 packs I'll be snagging tomorrow with the 2 Paragon Reward tokens I've got sitting around doing nothing, I might have to expend very little else to get the set.

  7. Neat! Now I can start working toward that set of VEAT ATOs.
  8. Welcome back, Alex! Guess I might as well throw my hat into the ring with my namesake ...

For in-game reference points: his torso, upper arms, and legs are Praetorian Clockwork. His shoulders, gloves, and boots are Imperial Defense. The belt is Ascension, and the jaw is Cyborg.

What happens when you take a former member of the Freakshow and Arachnos Special Operative-turned free agent with an obsession for extreme cybernetic body modification and give him near-unlimited access to tech used by Vanguard, Crey, the Rikti, PPD, Praetorians, and others? Something beautiful.

The other obvious answer: Most of the weekly Ustreams are recorded and are available for viewing at your leisure fairly soon after they're finished.
  10. Hi everyone!

There isn't much to add to this thread that hasn't already been said, so I'm just announcing that I have added "Be officially recognized as Captain Collateral Damage" to my bucket list.
  11. Oh, I get it now. Cartoon Starfire was your introduction to the character, wasn't it?

Well, the cartoon began in 2003, but Starfire first appeared in comics in October of 1980. And she was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez as a sort of "Red Sonja in outer space". The cutesy, naive, sweet Starfire of the Teen titans cartoon was the aberration, and the new 52 version isn't that far off from how the character was for the 30 years prior to the reboot.

But this a Power Girl thread, and I really do NOT feel like going back and forth with people who are still upset because DC comics didn't turn Starfire into their perfect orange cartoon waifu. So good day, sir.

Ignoring, of course, that the cartoon version of Starfire was much different than the comic version which existed prior to and during the cartoon's existence, in terms of both appearance and personality.

And if you really still think that Starfire in the new DC universe is nothing but a "barely disguised sex puppet", then you either stopped reading Red Hood & the Outlaws after issue 1 or haven't read the series at all.
  13. Marcian Tobay and I had a quick little discussion about this on Twitter. I personally cannot stand the new costume. And no, it's not because of "DURR HURR BOOBIES!" either. I just don't like the way it looks. There's too much uninterrupted white thanks to the bodysuit (the lack of sleeves and the ribbing don't really do much to remedy it), her boots and bracers are too busy compared to the rest of her costume, the "P" on her big red mantle is frankly silly-looking, and I'm not feeling the feathered 80s hair. Oh, and there's no blue in the costume, either. With like one exception, her costumes - and there have been a few - have always had blue in them.

Huntress appears to be coming through relatively unscathed, so I really do wonder why PG had to undergo such a radical costume change. I'd like to think that it wasn't due to cries of "sexism" and "misogyny", as Power Girl was never really written as the "sexy" character. Guys leering at her cleavage were usually met with an emphatic "eyes up here, pal!", and any sex appeal the character had was typically either lampshaded, downplayed, or not played at all. Amazingly, even though she had exposed cleavage of some sort for most of her existence, PG wasn't really a cheesecake character.

You know how it is -- sometimes stuff breaks between beta and live.
  15. So, the choices of available SG emblems hasn't been updated since CoV (if then). It's time that the list was expanded. A number of chest emblems have been added to the game since then, a lot of which are available to all players regardless of their payment option. At the very least, the SG emblem list should be updated to include these. Beyond that, perhaps "emblem packs" can be added to the Paragon Market to give SGs access to chest emblems that are normally restricted for one reason or another (special events, Paragon Reward tiers, purchased content, etc.).

Also, during the UStream where the British engineer fellow was introduced, Zwillinger noted that The Television was moved from CoH to their upcoming project.
  17. Not to completely derail the thread, but it was Spider Island that actually turned me back onto Spider-Man after the whole OMD/OMIT stuff. It turn a lot of other lapsed fans around as well.

    This, basically.

while there are only so many practical ways you can go with "throw x from hands", I'd like to see all the ranged sets at the very least get some unique animations within each set. In a perfect world, I'd like to see them all get unique, stylized animation sets. Right now, the newer sets like Dual Pistols stand out because they each have an individual feel, whereas the old sets all feel very generic because they sort of had to be generic back during CoH's initial development cycle.

  21. I'd gladly give up Goliath Bird Eater if he could become an NPC, but they've already got their poster child for villains turned good in Desdemona.

And in fairness, she does look slightly better than GBE in hotpants.

He feels Longfang should stay the same because he believes the lethal damage is an intentional design decision. And he's very hesitant to change the IO type accepted by Omega Maneuver because it would screw up the builds of those who've already slotted it. Fairly standard answers, but both legitimate. At least he answered me (and a lot faster than I thought he would, as well!).
  23. Well, that didn't take long. Synapse replied to me and explained why he doesn't agree with the suggestion. In fairness, I thought it was a longshot when I PMed him, so no skin off my nose. And hey, it's not like Crabs are suffering because Longfang deals lethal damage and Omega Maneuver takes Targeted AoE IOs, right?
