Don't forget to speak with Twinshot in Atlas Park when you hit 5, 10 and 15 - she has some awsome story arcs that also act as tutorials for newer players.

Not only does the Earth rotate, it also has a separate layer of cloud cover - plus the textures on the space isalnd seemed to be totally new, rather than reused rock textures from First Ward or Dark Astoria. -

Because as one of the devs put it, new writers want to tell their own original stories rather than research old lore and make new stories based on existing characters and groups. That's why every other issue we get three brand new groups to familiarize ourselves with.
Plus, SAM doesn't really cover the same area as the UNSF - and it's also possible that the UNSF is being set up to replace the generic military in any Shadow Shard revamp - although the Vanguard would seem to be a better fit for dealing with a threat like Rularuu - but both choices would still fit in with the more sophisticated post-GR storytelling style. -
