Quote:But if firesword had higher damage, that would make it worse due to the lost damage for the swap.I'm not sure myself, but presumably it's due to Fire Sword having higher damage, I guess? I suppose if you have a high recharge, Fire Sword recharge probably doesn't matter... but cast time is 1.33s compared to Scorch's 1s... hrm.
I only took Scorch because I didn't like the look of the fire scimitar (in fact, I put off taking Fire Melee until like Issue 15 when I finally ran out of Scrapper melee powersets to take, haha), so with future alternate animations, I might take Fire Sword... -
Hmm, I do it a lot on my elec/elec and I sometimes get stone, sometimes fire. I don't get the same thing everytime. But, hey if I'm buggy, then I'll take it =)

They aren't procs, they are global enhancements just like the ones in the recharge intensive sets.

I also have a huge complaint with the commando. I leveled a Merc/Dark to 50 and played it for a few months at 50 before gutting it in frustration.
the commando has a lot of attacks with knockback. He loves to use them first. Then his AOE non-knockback powers he uses on lone enemies that have been tossed around and are not near anyone anymore. This severely limits the actual damage he deals compared to his potential damage. -
Quote:I did say it was dislike, which is preference. I don't know on performance as my performance is much more impacted by my reflexes than my character's stats. =)Quote:

However, I do think that if you compare the numbers between a BS/Regen and a BS/WP there will be a noticable difference in damage output. But I suspect it will be far less than if you compare kat/regen to bs/regen or kat/wp to bs/wp.
I have a fire/bs and even spamming burn, heal and fiery embrace it's not so bad on the redraw as /regen has been. I guess because I open with burn and fiery embrace, then unload on attacks, whereas /regen my attacks are reliably getting interrupted for a heal. But I'm not really sure.
Quote:Gameplay-wise it only really matters if you're an extreme min-maxer, for general play it doesn't make enough difference to really matter. That being said while it isn't critical in terms of attacks the extra animations do break up the flow of motion which I find a little annoying, especially if I have to do it a lot. -
it has a very low-chance to fire. I tested it in my brute's damage aura and lightning rod and was totally unimpressed. I swapped it for a damage proc and have been much happier.

Quote:Not true. Oroboros arc level 50 "The Code Merlin". You can restart over and over until you get fire types. 2 kill alls and then a kill the elite boss demon for 4 merits and arcane drops.villain side dont have a fire damage farm change sides to hero and do the hero demon farm if you want a fire damage one. vilain just has the tv farm with nemisis.
I tend to just roll with it regardless of what type of possessed scientist spawns. -
While farming with my fire/shield brute I tend to run into a group and stand there for 1 maybe 2 seconds before I start attacking. Three seconds, tops. in a +1/x8 spawn of rikti I am sitting on about 50% fury at that point and I haven't clicked a single attack. After one or two attacks I'm up at the 60-70% that we are stuck at most of the time anyway and then I stay there the rest of the mission.
I can't imagine that the recharge penalty on stone is greater than no attacks at all. Therefore I can't imagine that it has any significant impact except maybe in groups where you are competing for fury and your own attacks are a higher percentage of your total generated fury. -
Quote:Averaged over time the proc is worth .22 end/second which is more than anything else you can put into one slot even more than a level 50 end mod IO.What's the performance shifter +end good for, other than stamina? I assume the point of it is that, while it's a proc and thus not all that reliable, it's the only way to get more out of stamina once it hits ED?
I haven't yet gotten anything past level 35 or so... So purples are a ways out yet.
The other nice thing about it is that since it is a proc and not recovery it is not impacted by things like the -recovery from a nuke or tier 9 crash. It is not unique and you can slot up to 5 of them. -
Quote:I don't get it. How is replacing fire sword any different than swapping out scorch in the other chain?Better management of interruptions such as BU, Hasten, Conserve Power, click mez protection, etc.
When you use these powers that interrupt your DPS, you want to replace them for the lowest DPA attack (FS), and you also want to keep your highest DPA attack (Inc) in a permanent state of recharge, not wasting a fraction of a second of its recharge time. -
I had a plant/Ice do that mission a ton last year very easily. Would have been nicer with a secondary other than ice. but the confuses and damage from plant made up for it, and as mentioned, snap himself was not so rough once you get him held.

Quote:There's a difference between "useless", and "has trade offs you might not feel are worth it" or "is much weaker". That's all I'm sayin'. =)I never knew! :O Honestly, I'm sadly half of the people you describe there, as I have very little understanding about game balance and defenses, and thus have thought that if you didn't have a chance to acchieve mentionable def from ur primary/secondary epic pool, you'd be better off not trying :/. But again, since I don't have much experience, I guess I've still got a chance to learn ^^
It is never "useless" to add defense. Ask a SS/WP while s/he's farming the wall in Cimerora if defense is useless on a character who starts with none. -
Per my experience on stalkers, it is spectacular while it lasts but the animation time blows.
-
Quote:The goobs who tell you that it is "useless" to go for defense are completely exaggerating the effect of -def debuffs beyond hyperbole, beyond fantasy and out into the nether reaches of delusion. they are the ones who like to claim that having def with anything less than capped DDR is "worthless". My /elec brute has about 38% defense to melee, 32% to s/l and 0 DDR. She's just fine against nearly all enemies, even romans. Why? Because when the defense goes negative she stlll has 100% of the powers and survivability that the Devs feel are balanced against a pure defense set. IE her resists and heal. When a /SR goes into the negatives it may as well be a blaster (splat).Hi guys,
As the title more or less implies, what is the most "common" effect to slot for on a Fire/fire? Some people have been telling me that recharge is where I wanna go, as it is pretty much useless going for capped def on a set that has no abilities whatsoever for defense.
The reason I ask is because my 1st lvl 50 Brute is beginning to deserve a revamp and I'm thinking a lot about remaking the very concept of the character, so I might have him ready to be incarnated in I19.
Thanks for your help!
Getting defense gives you an extra layer to the onion that is your survivability. This is purely a good thing. 15% makes a solid difference in your survivability. 25% you will really feel the difference. 35% is all you need, at that point popping a small purple is no different than having access to a crashless tier 9 power. 45% is totally unnecessary, but fun. -
Quote:I can't speak for anyone else. In my case it is truly idiocy. I like to tell myself that it is idiocy in the case of the rest of the playerbase as well so I don't feel so bad about it.Simply put, it all comes down to perspective.
To a low level character selling TO drops for 30 or 40 inf a pop, 100K seems
like a crazy-high amount.
For the guy crafting & selling purples (where even the crafting cost alone is 600K),
100K is loose pocket change, especially when the expected profit is ~20-50M or more.
While "idiocy" is certainly possible, I'd say that scale/perspective is a far liklier
rationale...

To those who say there is no need for all missions to be auto-completeable, what if one of those is bugged?
In my opinion, every mission should either be timed or auto-completeable so that we never need a petition to get past a bug. -
Quote:This would be so totally awesome. Brilliant idea! That or they need at least three fire blasters/controllers casting Rain of Fire or somesuch on the lake to melt it.
And what would be great is an iceskating emote a la Ninja Run or the Prestige slides. Unlockable with candy canes!

Quote:I start slotting cheap set IOs at level 7. I like sets that give some recovery. Typically I'm sitting on 8-12% recovery from sets by the time I'm level 20. And I have higher accuracy, damage and end reduction than using DOs, comparable to SOs which aren't available for another 2 levels.I've noticed a trend. Nearly everything I play is frustrating up to around level 20, then fun thereafter -- and note that I'm not necessarily taking Stamina, so it's not always that.
Around level 20, though, I can get some cheap set IOs and suddenly have MUCH better enhancement bonuses than I did before. My attacks hit, they do more damage, they cost less endurance, and I start having set bonuses, like +regen and +recovery.
Is this just me, or do other people have it too? How do people get through those early levels?
A few recommendations I use a lot for end recovery and reasonably decent bonuses:
Melee: Bruising Blow (bit expensive sometimes)
Hold: Paralytic (always cheap)
Kismet: Defense (Def/Recharge and End/Recharge are always cheap)
Harmonized Healing: Health (always cheap but level 20+)
Razzle Dazzle: Stun (always cheap)
Cleaving Blow: PBAOE (Always cheap)
If I was really aiming for the best bonuses, my powers would be slotted better than SOs by level 20, but I'd have lower endurance. So it's a tossup. -
Quote:Because legs aren't as sexualized as breasts. Also, long legs are "elegant". Big breasts are "NSFW". Men are not considered perverts if they like long legs, but they are if they like large breasts. It just dawned on me...why all the complaints with the chest slider, but you never see the complaints about the leg sliders all the way to the right?
As far as I'm concerned, all the sliders on all three models need to go farther in both directions. Not a lot but some. And all costumes available to either sex should be available to both. Not just for cross dressing, but if one of my guys loses a bet and has to wear a dress for a week, I want to have the option of it being a pink bridal gown complete with veil, not just the toga or a carefully colored kilt. Bah.
On the topic of the use of models, I have seen two really wicked looking buff female amazons made using the male model and wearing the toga running around redside. Since they seem to be completely opposed to letting us have female bodybuilder-type heroines I thought that was a pretty creative way to go. I tried it myself but could never get a face to workout right. -
Actually, when you kill an AV you get a SO at your level. So if you exemplar down for a Posi part 2, the level 15 AV can drop a level 50 SO. Unless I am misunderstanding the mechanic. I tend to have my enhancement trays full anyway so never get them as drops so I haven't tested in a while.

Two of my doms are level locked below 41 and will never have an APP. My 50 will never give up her second pet and will never have an APP. I'm leveling another now that I don't know if I will use an APP or not.
So it was a completely worthless addition for me: Something I haven't used and possibly will never use. But looks good on paper and it seems other people love them. If they had pets I'd be all over them like stink on a monkey. -
Quote:I mentioned the timecapsule and its letters. Though I'll grant I didnt point out the mission directly. You know, I'm surprised that no one's mentioned this yet, but on blue side after you hit level 20, you can speak to the City Representative in City Hall in Atlas Park and you can run the Cape Mission to unlock the ability for your character to wear Capes. This arc touches on one of the most important events in the recent past for Paragon City.
