I'm one of those poor slobs who has trouble moving too fast and hover slows me down. Plus, from slightly above I have a better view of the area. And on the winter event, it came in very handy on the ice in BNY missions since I was able to hold position. But really, it comes down to hover is slower after the steal speed kicks in and I don't accidentally agro two or three groups by zooming too far.

That could be a lot of fun use of a second build. Totally not good for actual playing, but could be spectacular fun for goofing off.

Quote:A couple people have done this with AE. Make three arcs, first is intro, then you choose which of the second two based on the outcome of your first. They usually tell you in the mission summary notes (if you did xyz play mission ###, if you did uvw play mission ###). Kind of a kludge, but nice.It would certainly add depth and variety to the game. A much better change than adding quarter million hitpoint villains.
Along this line branching story lines would be welcome. Having missions that with multiple outcomes that take you in different directions depending on how you did. Imagine the lady gray tf if failing the missions wound up requiring you to do new missions to undo the damage.
Quote:Or try "Murder in Triplicate": the final mission has four bosses, one of whom is the murderer, and the other three are innocent (but hostile towards you). The mission is timed, and doesn't give you enough time to beat down all four -- you need to use the clues you picked up in the previous missions to figure out who to target. Imagine if there were a hundred different sets of clues, and the engine supported the mechanic of "defeat the wrong opponent and you fail the mission". -
Quote:Except for those who start slotting cheap set IO's early. Because triple IOs at level 17 are 99% the effectiveness of an equal level SO and you can put them in as low as when you're level 14. Level 20 triples are better than +3 SOs and so are level 24 duals. They are also cheaper in the long run if you frankenslot with the cheap ones instead of aim for top-level sets.As for what to expect, all characters are relatively weak before SOs at 22.
Here is the Wiki listing of where the effectiveness of each type of enhancement works out. Seriously, look into using IOs as low as level 15. If you think SO's are worth slotting than so is a level 17 triple or level 20 double. And you can get them earlier and often cheaper than SOs, plus they never expire. -
I beg to differ on it being easy to just post a solution. Here are some examples where "solutions" are posted but they don't take anything away from the fun of the puzzle:
Take the Mime contest from Runescape first. The best someone can do to help you figure it out is tell you "copy the same emotes the mime is doing!" You still have to recognize them and select them yourself. It's not like they do the same emote every time.
Or consider the Treasure Map again from Runescape. This is a case where a complete solution can be posted. But with over 100 possible "steps" asking in broadcast is not going to help. You can look it up, but you're still running to the multiple locations, talking to the multiple contacts, etc. It's still fun.
Then there is the Simon game from WoW. Just match colors. Go ahead, read the posted guide and see if it gives everything away. These are pretty similar to the lock mechanic from Mass Effect, but more fun and less annoying. Cool sound effects too, and you get zotted something nasty if you screw up. Take too long and the bad guys respawn and mob you too so there is a time pressure built in.
Other examples can be found easily enough.

While I think it would take programmer man hours to do this, it could be done. So when the newbie says "Which wire do I cut in this mish" everybody says, "It's random, check your clues." Oh well.
#1 The same way chocolate is different from vanilla and the same way that the offices are different from caves. Why do so many people like FrostFire's mission in the Hollows? This is exactly the same thing.
#2 Trial and error doesn't work. Figure it out or fail. Alternatively, figure it out and get larger rewards is also a good alternative. Keeps people from being frustrated since you are in a win-winbig scenario instead of a win-lose scenario.
#3 (most important): 4 glowies only 1 works = rewards autistic/OCD behavior. A puzzle means you have to make a decision. That is a fundamental and very significant difference. Now the implementation may exaggerate or minimize this difference, but making a decision and just randomly acting is a big difference.
This said, if you haven't yet give Scott Kurtz' Lolbat mission in the AE a try (it is one of the guest missions from Herocon). He introduced a mission where some glowies summon vicious ambushes, and others are required to complete the mission. It is a limited implementation using the tools available, but a good step in the right direction and makes for a very nice variation on the usual mission of walk in the door, beat down everyone, leave. -
No worries. hope things work out for you on the job front.
I am a big fan of the leadership pool, brings a lot to teams and is so much fun when there are multiples stacking.
On the cheap version of your current build, I had two questions:
Why did you opt for Gravimetric snare--do you really use it that often?
On Dark Extraction, lots of people say if you only have the one resist or def aura for pets that it doesn't do much, do you find that it is worth it over the other set piece (I forget which is the other option)? I know you're really going for the set bonus, but in terms of getting bang for the buck... -
Quote:Is there any other option for the stuns besides the stupify set? I hate that proc. Here's a Mids Build giving you an example of what I'm talking about. I know you can't use mids but this post gives you the IOs. I de-emphasized KB for you and will give you some tactics and stats.
Quote:Power Boost also affects defense so you can use it as a mini-MoG.
Quote:Once the boss is down finishing off the rest of the spawn is easy. Range Boosted Howl followed immediately by Sirens will allow you to get some AoE damage in. You'll have to back up a few steps each time you do it but that shouldn't be a problem.
Quote:Defiance buffs the nuke. The resistance debuff from Howl combined with the defiance boost from Howl, Sirens, and Screech on top of the boost from Amplify and Build up add about +200% damage to the Wail (300% if the Gaussian's proc fires).
Quote:The heal proc in Shriek won't keep you alive but 10% of the time it will proc. Since you can use the power if you are slept that heal going off will break that sleep. It happens often enough to actually help.
The build packs all the important things in early so looks very good for exemping too. Thank you! -
Quote:I do too but I like having extras. I tend to miss a lot (my personal record is having streakbreaker kick in after too many consecutive misses with a 95% chance to hit on all of them) so I don't trust a single-target mez. Having a chance to hold on 90% of my attacks seems good on paper. On my sonic/elec I took the stun, so I have a mez when I need a mez.
Quote:Years ago, level 9 running a Frostfire I learned I could run up to a mob hit them with Power Trust, immediatly queue a blap and the blap would hit the mob when it landed 15+ feet away from me.
Quote:If you fear going into melee and dying start kitting(sp) run by a mob and hit the attack button as you jump past them. As an /em you have an amazing amount of damage potential in your fists. Don't be afraid to utilize it.
Quote:That proc is a feast or famine proc, over time two slotting stamina with the proc works out but in practice its seems to proc alot in a short amount of time and then no proccing at all for a long time.
Quote:Just a quick question on your nuke usage, are you standing directly in the mob or are you standing directly next to the mob. If you're just standing next too the mob you'll KB the mob all in the same direction, at that time you should be jumping backwards. AT the apex of your jump use a ranged attack or mez. Jumping can help mitigate the drawbacks of those long Sonic roots.
I fight like a ping-pong ball. Jumping pretty non-stop and hitting people from different sides.
Quote:Adjusted Targeting are plentiful pool A recipes. I slot as I level so its a lot easier for me to slot ATs instead of hoping someone rolls a rare Gaussian and puts it on the market. I also hate the Gaussian proc. My personal prejudice aside, that proc is more valuable slotted into BU or Aim then in Tactics or targeting drone.
Now the control issue (people who want it only on certain attacks) is a different one and for such people the reduced over-time damage might be worth ensuring bigger hits on prime targets by putting it in aim or buildup. But I use no strategy with my clickies on any character, I use them when they are up if I remember to use them at all.
In any event, for me gaussians is all about the 6-slot bonus. As far as I'm concerned the rest of the set and the rest of its bonuses--even the effect on the power I slot it into--barely exist. I put it in Tactics or Focused Accuracy on any character who takes those powers and then I just ignore it. -
Quote:That's my big debate. 6 slot thunderstrike, or include the chance to hold in both shriek and scream. You vote for the defense?6 slot your single target ranged attacks with Thunderstrike.
Quote:Your only blap isn't even slotted for damage, 5 slot it with crushing impacts.
Quote:Health is over slotted, I would suggest just filliing the default slot with a heatlh IO.
Stamina looks like it has an extra slot as well.
Quote:Superspeed if you're gonna three slot it should have the winter's gift unique and 2 pieces of zepyhrs for the ranged defense bonus.
Quote:CJ and Super jump should have 2 slots each for a pair of zephyrs, you can three slot these travel powers for a nice AOE defense bonus but that gets expensive fast. I'd put the Knockback protection in CJ and just have two slots in both of these powers.
Quote:My opion is there is an extra slot in your sleep, an extra slot in howl and a few extra slots in Dreadful Wail. Get a hold of a fifth piece of Positrons for howl. Use the slot in your sleep for the heal proc somewhere else.
[quote]Move those 2 slots into BU, 5 slot with Adjusted Targeting. I personally would pull 3 slots from your nuke and put those slots in Aim. Slot with Adjusted Targeting.[quote]Instinctively, I'd rather 6-slot one of them and go with Gaussians. But that is a neat way to stack accuracy and recharge. I'll have to mess with this possibility.
Quote:Acrobatics is going to be somewhat redundent with the Zepyr's KB unique. Manuvers is nice, so is the ranged stun in primary. If you can find the slots to fully slot the stun with Stupefys I would say go that way. If you are short on slots Manuvers def would stack nicely with the ranged defense you've built up.
Quote:You have 5 slots in that hold, Basilks Gaze, a hold IO set will give you a big 7.5% recharge bonuses for only 4 slots. Lockdown grants a 3.75% ranged Defense and a big AOE defense bonus for 6 slotting it. Also that hold can be slotted with Thunderstrikes.
Thank you, definitely looking at those suggestions. -
Soloing, lots of soloing and lots of oroboros down as low as the 20s.
Quote:For soloing - Sirens, Power Boost, and Boost Range are your key powers.
I know what you mean on the effect taking them out of combat though. That's pretty much how I roll. Sleep all, wake one up and kill it. Wake the next up and kill it. resleep all just to be safe. Etc. I'll look into the purple set. I have Sandman in there now.
The funny thing is that all the click options were what attracted me to /em in the first place (ooh I might not need stamina with conserve power, and I can use boost power for this and this and that too). then I found it very overwhelming to use them intelligently. Now, I want to like them, and I still smile imagining the potential awesomeness... but end up forgetting to use them when I need them. =)
Quote:Your next line of defense should be Screech, Stun, and Total Focus. These 3 powers will allow you to stun even stun resistant mobs and will allow you to stun bosses.
Quote:You can either slot Sirens for a little extra range and use Boost range or you can do the same thing and use Shockwave then follow up with Sirens. Don't slot Shockwave with KB enhancements or you may shove the mobs out of the range of Sirens.
Quote:You can slot for some ranged defense. I get along excellently with 22% ranged defense. You can get 33ish from slotting Shriek, Scream, and Shout with Thunderstrikes, Power Thrust, Bone Smasher, and Total Focus with Makos, Stun and Screech with Stupefy, Gaussians in Amplify or Build up, and Combat Jumping with an LotG +7.5 and LotG defense.
The trick is, how useful is the ranged defense from 6-slotting Thunderstrikes, compared to the chance to hold procs? I have one in shout now and I was thinking of moving it to scream. That gives me a lot of chances to hold on shriek-scream-shriek. But it is pretty much single-target. Ranged Def is protection vs groups.
Thank you! -
Can someone with Mids go into AlienOne's Human-form Warshade guide and publish builds 2 and 4 in a way that those of us on Mac's (such as me) can read them?
I tried asking in the thread, and by PM. So far no luck. Thanks! -
Anyone able to give some advice? So far most of the Sonic/EM builds I've seen focus on 50s or PvP, so just snagging one of the others hasn't been so helpful thus far.
-
Much sadness. Thanks for the heads up.
-
I was looking at the task forces I haven't done (a very long list) and the length of time to complete, and the odds of ever having anyone help. It looks from reading the list like this one could be solo'd. I don't see any missions where you need to do two things at once or need to defeat some uber AV, or even protect anything vulnerable. Looks like just a long string of missions all over the place.
Could one BS/Regen scrapper who is far too likely to forget to use the click powers (I totally should have gone Kat/Willpower, sigh) solo it? Do I need two people in the TF for it to stay up? What's the hardest part?
Yes I know it will take forever, that's not the point. -
Quote:Level entry limit lifted at Firebase Zulu. Just run to Peregrine and buy one for 10k. But the safeguard is fun too.We are running this on Monday nights, starting at 7pm(cent). I have the first Safegard mission saved up to get everyone the jetpack, and then its back into the most familytastic AE mission I have ever made. We had 3 other show up last week, so if they all make it back, plus a couple of more, we can get down to some serious leveling.

Fascinating. I wonder if Nethergoat has ever seen it. I wonder if it is an effect they added to the mist rather than something in the zone you can interact with?
-
One of my oldest characters is a sonic/em blaster. Most of what I selected and slotted was all done pretty random. I tried one respec, and have added a few sets, mostly based on what I found though I did buy a few (before I knew what sets were good and what weren't). But she isn't survivable enough, and doesn't do enough damage, and I really don't know what to do with her. Got her to 43 before I got frustrated. Looking for help fixing her build.
I'm on a Mac so can't use Mids. I'm not interested in using her for PvP, but I do a bunch of flashbacks. She mostly solos, and the only build restrictions are that I'd like to minimize melee, and I'm thinking about ditching travel powers, but I do have a set of Zephyrs I just picked up and haven't crafted yet so we'll see. I started down the fire epic path, but I'm open to anything. Initially I was thinking that I die so much that Rise of the Phoenix would be helpful. Now I'm thinking fixing the build might be a better solution. but it still seems like a fun power.
Budget: I'd prefer to minimize the purples, but I can earn my way to them, and they give me something to work towards, but for any purple if you could suggest an alternate to put in until I can earn the inf to swap up that would be appreciated.
Here's where she's at (no idea what order I took the powers in, which really screws me up when I flashback):
Sonic:
Shriek: Tempestx4 Damage IO, Devastation chance to hold
Scream: Tempestx4 Ruinx1, Thunderstrikex1
Shout: Ruinx2, Devastationx4 (includes chance to hold)
Siren Song: Sandman x5, Detonationx1 (includes chance to heal self)
Screech: 5x (stun set with the dunce cap icon), 1x recharge SO
Amplify: Adjusted Targetx2
Howl: Positronx4, Detonationx1, Endurance IO
Dreadful Wail: 6x SOs (End, Acc, Rechx2, Damx2)
Energy:
Powerthrust: 1xKinetic Crash (knock/acc)
BuildUp: Rechargex3
Bone Smasher: RazzleDazzle x2
Conserve Power: Rechargex1
Pools:
Haste: Rechargex3
Super Speed: Winter's Giftx3
Combat Jump: Defense SO
Super Jump: Jumpx2, End (have full set of Zephyr to swap in)
Acrobatics: Endurance IO
Hurdle: Jump SO
Health: Health IOx3, Miraclex1 (not the unique)
Stamina: Endurance Mod IO, Endurance Mod SO, Performance Shifterx2
Fire:
Char: 5x SOs (Range, Acc, End, Recharge, Dam)
Sprint: Stealth (leaping set)
Anywho, help would be appreciated I have no idea what to do with her beyond swapping the Tempests for Thunderstrikes. -
A less effective way and less stalkerish is to add a note and some stars and then if you pass by them on a different character you can say "hey I met you while you were on so-and-so".
-
War Admiral, would it workout the same to swap combat-jump and SJ with Hover and fly? Or close enough to make no difference?
-
Quote:Slot -kb IOs. There is also a set that gives KB resist as a bonus I think.Yeah, this is really the big thing for me. I can deal with the damage, but if I'm caught off guard the problem is being knocked around like a rag doll while I try to figure out where the shot is coming from. At least, again, the Dwarf form puts a stop to that.
It's just too bad Human form doesn't have a similar alternative, other than just being attentive.
The stun you could slot for reduced % duration, but that's totally not worthwhile considering how weak the reduction actually is. Instead slot for defense and have those shots miss more often.
You can also use the enhancement buffs from your supergroup base to mitigate both stun and knockback for 1 hour at a time for a very low cost (average 600inf for the cheapest -kb buff to buy the salvage required off the market).
So you have options even in human form. -
Rikti Drones do not have increased perception. Instead they are coded to ignore stealth completely. So there is nothing you can do about them. Same with Knives of Artemis.
Nemesis snipers however, you can sneak past with hide.
PvE for a stalker there is no advantage to more stealth. -
I'll also add that Nerva and St M. have the least looking for group chatter of the villain zones. If you're in that level range you'd have better luck joining a high team in Grandville, or dropping back to Cap and joining a lower team. But if you just ask for one or two people to join you and don't obsess about having a full team of 8, it's easy anywhere.
-
Well with all the PvPrs moved to Freedom instead of Test, we might be getting more of these on the market. At least, one can hope!
