A little trick I do when setting up a new base is that the first two heroside TP locations I set up are to King's Row and Steel Canyon. King's Row's exit point is near the Yellow Line station and Steel Canyon's exit point is the closest of those zones that the Green Line station serves. And generally, I keep those two locations on the same teleport pad even after setting up more pads later.

Quote:I play EN/EM a lot, but I don't do this.I don't have a problem with knockback.
I have a problem with stupid and/or jerkwad knockback.
Like the energy blaster who followed my BS/DA scrapper around targeting through me and sending my target flying right before I got a chance to attack it. (jerkwad knockback) The worst part was he was my teammate.
Quote:Stupid knockback would be the energy blaster who hits a spawn with Energy Torrent and Explosive Blast back to back......before a tank establishes agro. Now the tank has to work that much harder to get the spawn on him, while they're shooting whatever they saw first when they stood up.
Not to defend him entirely, but sometimes a blaster does know what he's doing. Perhaps the blaster just levelled and is hurrying to make use of those large inspirations he's now got active. Or, maybe he wanted to spice things up a bit for a change instead of waiting for the tank to herd yet again (that is soooo boring when done every single time). When I have a tray full of inspirations I'll down a couple of the defense ones, a break free, and extra damage and go to town against a group. Now if he's doing it every single time then, yeah, he might be a bit suicidal. But sometimes one wants to just add a little variety to the play. If I do it and die, I know I'm at fault and will laugh my head off.
Now, I don't normally open with AoEs, but instead I'll take a sniper shot. What's annoying is the stupid meleers that run forward to aggro the whole group when a few are now running forward to attack me. Wait for them to get away from the others and beat those few up, then go hit the others.
Meleers can be just as stupid, no, actually they are generally more stupid than many blasters. -
Quote:It doesn't happen that often objectively speaking, but when it does happen, it takes up so much time to solve that subjectively the entire play session is marred by that incident.
It may not happen all the time, but it should not be happening even once.
The problem with mentioning this on the forums is I almost always get responses to the tune of "You're exaggerating, it doesn't happen that often" or "It never happens to me".
To the first, I say that no, I am not exaggerating, to my definition of "often". It happens about four to eight times per level for me, judging from my Ninja/Storm Mastermind after she got Hurricane. If instead I mention that I faceplant four to eight times per level, I think that would count as "often".
As for not happening to others, I don't even know why it happens to me, much less happens to me so often.
Their anecdote evidence is far closer to the "truth" than your anecdote evidence. -
Is posting on this thread a popular thing? Or does it take having 4 or 5 (or more) pages before a thread gets popular?
I mean, I don't want to reply unless it's the popular thing to do.

Quote:Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't make it a myth. I've been kicked twice for my power selections, none of which was when I was shooting with my MM...I've never managed to be kicked from any team at all. I've played an Illusion/Storm (she did used to get told not to use Freezing Rain by Herding Tanks back in i4 but thankfully they seem to have died out), a Warshade (who doesn't want a WS on a team? *boggle*), a Grav/TA controller (got more "Cool choice of sets" and "Nice control" tells than anything else) and currently a Plant/Emp lacking a rez or big heal.
I think the boot myth is just that for the most part.
Quote:I do get miffed if the team is struggling and there's people doing silly things which aren't helping (MMs focusing on shooting over support, someone negating another persons abilities mindlessly for no good reason), but a gentle "Hey, lets try this instead" usually does the trick without people getting upset.
Silly? My MM attacks are as strong as my Tier 3 henchman's attacks. And since I've usually taken /traps as my secondary, once those are set then I start shooting things. I keep the shooting to a secondary role, but I do shoot. It's a lot more fun. -
Quote:If I wanted to fight with melee powers I'd be playing a scrapper. It's not my fault that the devs made some stupid power choices for some powersets. Give me an EM2 powerset that focuses on supporting a ranged-based character and I'll re-roll every /EM blaster I have (well, except my first which has a lot of badgesWhat abput blasters who skip most of their Secondary? Like alot of /EM blasters?
). I don't mind Power Thrust, being that it has a good chance of knocking the enemy away from me (and Knockback IOs are cheap
), but I seldom take any other melee powers from /EM. Okay, Total Focus isn't bad
, but I really don't like the animation.

I'll toss in another odd design: the invention table not in the same room as the personal vault or salvage bins.
I place the invention table right next to the personal vault, and 1-2 salvage bins (usually the ones with common salvage) as close as possible so you can have all three open at once (a salvage bin, personal vault, and the invention table).
The game makes you run around enough as is, so why do players want to do the same thing to their fellow players? -
Quote:*sigh* My secret is out. So I'm running around Steel Canyon arresting Outcast leaders to take them off the street (okay, I'm badge hunting) and it hit me... I feel like just one of the many mostly-unsung heroes of the real world: the police (and fire-person
when putting out fires in Steel). There's no real glory or fame, the mobs are back on the street within minutes (I really hate the faster respawn rate that was put in some issues ago). On villain side it's about the same, you're just a policeperson for Arachnos (no matter the RP spin you put on it as I often do).
No newspaper has headlines with your name in large print, no paparazzi with a police cordon around outside when you exit the mission door (not even once); I can see not doing with every mission, but end of story arc missions could have them as the news of the completed "case" (arc) is released to the public. In Paragon City being a superhero is just an almost-normal job. Yeah, there's thousands of superheroes in the city, but you don't see that many at once.
Don't treat my character as one of a many thousands cast member, but as one of a few dozen. On the less populated servers that is almost true. Would be nice to see my character's name up in lights. Or for TFs, perhaps the TF name is shown, perhaps on some continuous running marquee in AP or Galaxy (Aeon City in Cap for redside?), or even Pocket D. Make it look like my character's actions are making a difference, instead of the pat on the back by contacts. Have the big names say something to you about your lastest endeavor as NPC chatter (just once per endeavor). This should include zone events that you've taken part in.
Ah, the word finally came to me: recognition. Give my character the recognition it deserves for being a superhero (or supervillain in the service of Arachnos). -
OP is 8 years older than I. (yay?)
Seems like so many players don't believe me when I say how old I am. Guess they think I should be dead or something.
I've written multiplayer computer games older than most players. Computers weren't invented just yesterday and computer networks are far older than you think, kiddies.
Here's a little history lesson on a forerunner for some of the computer utilities you use today: (search "plato (computer system)", or

So you can have Statesy instead of Clippy to help you?
Synapse controls the download software, Ghost Widow handles anti-virus with Wretch as the one to eradicate it, Swan locates p..., well, we'll leave that out (for now), Ms. Liberty runs The Office Manager, and ...

Quote:Go to Virtue, home of the big Mac of Role Playing, if you want to Improve you Rp, try making Ae Story Arc about you toon and his heroics conflicts. Why not Create a RP Event with AE, for your friends and Sg mates, it might make things funner.
Have you seen some of the RP in Virtue? It's bad, really really bad. Improve your RP? Hahahahahaha. You want to scare the poor soul if he wanders into Pocket D? -
I think he also means what else can the character do. Frankly, there isn't much. You can get various badges, the exploration and defeat ones are ones I go after with nearly every character. You can help with some of the zone events (e.g., fires in Steel Canyon), but those are limited. Otherwise RP or other player-driven activities are about the only other option besides the game's "defeat multitudes of enemies waiting for you to do so" and "complete missions".
Believe me, I really would like to see and do other things, but since this is based on the superhero comic books I'm guessing there isn't a lot of options. Although, I have seen quite a few good suggestions over the years in the forums which will never be implemented. -
Quote:Another common winner is the giant robot guy.I've never seen a "good" costume contest. The award always seems to go to either they darkity dark guy with all the horns/spikes/crap all over, or the female that shows the most skin.
Needless to say, me playing a Silver Age hero.... never won one.
I have won one (a "genie" NOT dressed like a genie, excepting the mini-vest which is over a spandex outfit - ya know, a costume for FIGHTING, not serving her master; also, no pony-tail) and had a couple of characters come in 2nd or 3rd place that did not fit any of the above criteria. -
Hmmmmm.
Nah, they can't be the same person. One is wearing sunglasses. -

Nearly all my characters (as in, all but 1) take Fly as their travel power, but I still fly at times at street level or just above and navigate around the buildings. I'd like to see more outdoor activities as well. I hunt for the defeat badges a lot, but once gotten then to keep hunting for that target has lost its appeal. I'd like to see some other small goals for my characters to achieve, besides gaining in strength (i.e., levels and powers).

Monthly fee: acceptable.
Everything else: $0.0
Pay for increased drop rates? What, you can't farm fast enough?
*sniff* The air around here has a trollish taint to it. -
I prefer Founders' Falls over Brickstown. And, snipe(r) hunting is fun.
I love my snipe power.
I solo and hunt/street sweep a lot so some of the zones mentioned are ones I am in fairly often, especially Perez. You can get a few defeat badges there. I avoid Boomtown, though. -
I'd rather see a dynamic loading screen with a section for part of a newspaper/monitor containing information about the latest news of the zone you are entering. The latest news would be about whatever that zone's TF was the most recently completed giving the names of the participants. It would make the game seem more personally alive, and people could see their hero's (or villain's) name in lights (so to speak).

Quote:Lunar landscapes and underwater areas could be put in the Shard; as well as many other landscapes. Also in favor of some Shard work... but I imagine the Devs are busy with other stuff atm
Also, I sadly admit that I would like to see some lunar landscapes or eery underwater scenes before any Shard revamp.
Landscape: barren cratered rock (lunar). One of the large rock formations that got bombarded by whatever broke the place up and no life grew on it. Maybe the area still vents dangerous gasses so there would be a domed living area/base (trying to make use of the gases, perhaps, thus can lead to a scenario or three).
Landscape: water bubbles. Large water bubbles could be floating in the Shard; that would easy enough to enter and leave. It could contain a new mob type, or a variant of the Corallax (less work to create). (and a sponge named Bob)
Landscape: The Snowcone. A large mountain-like rock, with attached plateau and miles of caves (I heard that groan); it's snow-covered. "Yeti"s live there (reskinned Hydras?). Could even have a temple of some sort on a cliffside or smaller peak off to the side of the main peak.
well, you get the idea... -
I think I'll put "petless" in my search comments for my non-MM ATs. I wonder how many will get it. (I have one controller, which got to 50 and is now gathering dust.. just not my style)
-
Lobsters?
Does someone have butter? I'm hungry. -
It's not a big deal. I've already unlocked both by getting at least one character to 50 on each side and I'm not bothered by this.
Maybe those leeching healing aura-only empaths will play an EAT and actually play now?
Maybe there will be less kins bothering me with SBs. Yeah, this is a good thing.
