Would also love -KB in DA and FA.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    (I agree also^^)

    [/ QUOTE ]

While this would be nice, at least the DA and FA -KB hole can be easily plugged with IOs. Regen has no such ability to cover the -regen and -recharge debuffs hole with IOs, and it shouldn't have to. Regen should have inherent resistance to these debuffs just like every other secondary has some sort of debuff resistance.

+1 vote for the Santorican Movement.
  2. I skipped it. I use the Incin>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch chain. Since I took Hasten, this chain has been viable since level 26(I am 34 now).

I haven't found burst damage to be an issue. If I BU>Incin>Cremate>FSC, +1 Lts die, and if used on a boss, they are left hurtin' badly. The built up FSC also does nice collateral damage to minions at the same time. After the alpha I go into the ST chain for mop-up.

/SR makes a build inherently tight, and freeing up a power choice without losing but 10 dps is always a nice option, especially since the Incin>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch chain has better eps.

The price for this, compared to my DB/Inv, is lower peak performance, which doesn't bother me at all. Ok, I also lost the awesome aggro aura that is Invincibility, which does bother my friends.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unless Mid's lies, and my 46 BS/WP just aggros foes by being teh awesome, RttC has a Mag 3 taunt aura. It's always seemed to keep melee foes pinned to me and not my squishy blaster buddy(AR/Dev).

Yeah, you'll be fine with Claws/Invuln. The scrapper combinations are very nicely balanced in PvE these days. There are better and worse choices for various objectives, but there are no clear winners and losers.

I have a theory that Katana/Shield can achieve the highest DPS with billions of influence spent, but I haven't worked it all out yet.

Let us know when you make that Katana/Shield... I'll be right behind you with a Spines/Shield.

    Blaster DPS

Umbral, is there a spreadsheet available for general use to calculate attack chain dps, dpa, eps, and epa?

If there isn't, maybe you or Werner would be willing to spread the love?

    edit: gratz on your 4000th!
  7. I forgot to mention that FM would likely be better suited to an Atomic concept. DM is shadowy and dark, whereas FM is explosions with the non-sword attacks. If you're avoiding sword attacks, you can aim for the attack chain Incin>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch(145% recharge in Incinerate), though you should still take FSC for it's excellent aoe power.
  8. lol. This concept is pure win.

Either primary works great with /SR. DM/SR is one of the best at soloing AVs and DM's Siphon Life helps fill the no heal hole in /SR. The best ST attack chain(Smite>MG>Smite>SL) requires quite a bit of +recharge, which makes it fairly expensive to build towards, though Quickness in SR helps attain it more easily than other secondaries.

FM is also great for AVs, and doesn't need nearly as much +recharge to be able to use it's highest dps, or 10% less dps and better eps, ST chain. FM/SR is known as the least expensive combo for AV soling due to this(as well as SR's easy def softcapping). FM also brings excellent AOE ability to the table with Fire Sword Circle. Breath of Fire is a narrow 30 degree cone, though if your at all good at positioning for DM's Shadow Maul or the vet reward Sands of Mu, then getting 4+ targets in it's aoe is easily accomplished. My FM/SR is 32 and is my new favorite alt.

Best of luck to you, and please post a link to a pic of your lemur hero.
  9. I'll post my leveling build. She's lvl 31 now, and this will show exact slotting that I've used. At level 27 I upgraded to frankenslotting IOS, which won't need replacing until I hit 47ish.

I will let you know that while it is a different approach to using /SR, I had very few deaths with this(I believe 3 total up to level 31). This will require a respec later, likely around level 36 or so.

It pushes back Stamina, but allows you to take two of /SR's passives by level 16, as well as slotting out attacks, Build Up, and Hasten pre-20. Essentially, you become a Blapper with excellent scaling resists and 20%+ melee Def. Very survivable, and since alpha-ing is the method of preferred attack, end-friendly pre-stamina since everything is dead within a few attacks. You just have to get used to your green bar living in the yellow and thriving in the red.

It may not be for everyone, but it has helped me get through the 1-30 game very easily, especially in comparison to how difficult other forumites described the journey pre-30 for /SR.

  10. This is taken directly from Arcanaville's "I7 scrapper secondary comparisons" and should help explain the passive scaling resistances better for those who read the guide:

    [ QUOTE ]
    The SR Passive Resistances

Each SR passive defense power also has an unenhancable scaling resistance to all but toxic and psi damage. This resistance starts to kick in when the scrapper is at 60% health, and slowly increases as the scrapper's health decreases. Mathematically, each resistance power offers:

    (60% - HealthPercentage) / 3

resistance. They stack, so all three passives combined offer a total of (60% - HealthPercentage) total resistance (to all but toxic/psi).

Because of how they work, it isn't easy to assign a fixed resistance value to them: they can sometimes act as zero resistance (a hit for more than 60% of total health is theoretically capable of defeating the scrapper without ever experiencing any of the resistive value of the passives). They can, under the right circumstances, act like 50% resistance or more, constantly. For the purposes of this comparison, we will assume (unless otherwise specified) that the resistances have a minimum benefit of about 10% resistance, and the maximum benefit is about 24% resistance. A full explanation for why will be the subject of a separate analysis.

The most challenging spawn I have tanked was an AE auto-SK to 50 8-man Rikti farming mission. The group lost members slowly as we went through the mish, and was down to only 3 members near the end. Myself, a Warshade, and a MA scrapper, who looked to be SR from what I noticed.

I always love a good scrapper story. Thanks for sharing!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same here. Thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed reading it.. And I love hearing about scrappers defying the laws of.. well, everything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No problem. I don't usually post my accomplishments on the forums, but this was such a fun one (and seemed pertinent), that I couldn't resist.

As far as your respec, focus on +HP before +regen in IO set bonuses, as it has a greater effect on your regen, as well as helps improve alpha survivability. After that, defense is the best for WP to focus on, allowing time for your regen to do it's job. WP generally gains more from typed def, which is usually easier/less expensive to come by than positional def, and can stack with Heightened Senses.
  12. My main is a 46 BS/WP. WP is amazing at tanking large spawns, with the caveat of needing a solid build and smart power choices. IO set bonuses help immensely as well.

We started attacking a spawn, and the Warshade somehow aggroed a second spawn... and then both spawns opened multiple portals, summoning yet even more mobs. I would wager there were in excess of 50-60 mobs on-screen at this time. Needless to say, my RttC was saturated and I popped SoW as a precaution to oddles of incoming damage.

My health bar didn't budge for the entire time SoW was up. The Warshade and the MA scrapper died within 20 seconds of the fight's duration. I will also state I didn't need to use Parry from BS, as I was wondering how solid my WP defenses were. I was also running all the WP toggles, as well as Tough, Weave, and CJ. Also, no temps/insp were needed.

I was killing with abandon(and cackling madly as I was soloing the ridiculous amounts of Rikti, much to the amusement of my wife sitting next to me) and after hacking down maybe 25-30 of the enemy, SoW crashed and I lost 1/2 my end bar, which was not a big deal with QR and Stamina.

I was then taking damage, but RttC was still saturated and was keeping up with the damage with no problem. I killed all but maybe 10-15 mobs when the Warshade and MA scrapper re-entered the mish. We mopped up the last few and ended up leaving the mish. I stated that it was an awesome test of my survivability and thanked them for the team. They told me that I was insane. Scrapper mentality was too obvious, I guess.

So, I don't think a Tank could have done any better to survive that incident, and likely would have taken longer to take down the mobs in any case.

DM isn't as AoE capable as BS(which is not as good as others, of course), so PLing toons with DM will rely more on taking out Bosses w/attached spawns quickly for decent XP gain. I also have not taken Whirling Sword yet, which would have sped up the encounter considerably.

I'll throw in my toon's build if you want to see what all I had that contributed to my survivability. The last two powers will be Whirling Sword @ 47 and Hasten @ 50.

    Best of luck to you!

No other AT can make me giddy with what I can push my characters to accomplish. Scrappers; you complete me.

What the heck is "softcapped Fire Resist"?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's just like capped fire resistance, but kinder and gentler.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    And more cuddly.
  15. I agree about the salvage cost, but my SG and I keep a ton on hand, so it helps reduce the cost there in my case. I also rationalize that IOs never need upgraded, unlike SOs every 5 levels, and so the cost even with salvage gets defrayed when looked at that way imho.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I use IO's, but refuse to buy the recipes. As such I'll use DO's till I get a recipe for the IO. Same for SO enhancements. I'll replace them with IO's as I can.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally, buying basic IO recipes and crafting them costs about as much as what you spend on SOs and having to upgrade them regularly, and many times it costs even less.

This holds especially true if you're in a SG with salvage storage and everyone contribues consistantly. Also, if you invest in level 25+ basic IOs, then you'd never have to expend inf again until you upgraded to IO sets at your leisure.

    YMMV, of course.

Which one of you is the Scrapper who died 11 times in my mission yesterday?

Seriously I have no problem with a well played Scrapper. But renegade team members are something else altogether. If your way of letting us know you want us to move faster is turning your health bar red, you're going to get let go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dude. None of the scrappers on the forums are the guy who died 11 times on your mission yesterday. People who take time to read and post in the forums are likely the top-tier scrappers who are the ones successfully tanking for teams of 8 with or without a actual tank on the team.

You are encountering players who probably never read the forums, take little time in planning a build, and do not know their true capabilities.

These are not the scrappers you are looking for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Also, if you're a /SR scrapper with passives then red is when you're nigh unkillable. Shame to boot the guy who is primed to kill everything while looking AMAZING in red while doing it.

Now that I've typed this, I seem to recall a BillZ post much earlier in the thread along similar lines...oh well.

But what should I be doing in the mean time?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I hate to say it, but in the mean time, die a lot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Early levels were rough for me on my Fire/SR, but the passives changed all that.

I skipped Focused Senses and delayed Stamina to make my toon into a Blapper with scaling damage resistances. I shine while my Health is yellow and excel when in the red.

Here's what I did, up to my current level of 22, though there will be a respec in my future once I get to where positional def can be near-capped:

CoX has always been a solo-game with optional teaming, hasn't it? Maybe I misread the manual...

OK, so Werner, BillZ, and BrokenPrey when can we all get together to form an anti-teaming team? Seriously, this would be a hell of a fun group methinks.
  20. I'll second this. I'm currently 46 and overcoming the regen rates of some AVs is the issue for me as well. Any input would be doubly appriciated.

  21. [ QUOTE ]

And this is part of why I mostly solo. Lots of people have VERY specific ideas about what a team should do and what powers team members should have, and often, these ideas are VERY different from person to person. You can get kicked from a team for doing what the last team insisted you do.

Screw it. I can kill almost everything in this game solo. So that's what I do. Or play with people I know that have complementary teaming styles. The small teams I'm more routinely on don't talk (at least about what we're doing) and don't slow down. We know how each other play. We know exactly what to expect. We don't rush into battle because we're impulsive. We rush into battle because we're experienced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interestingly Werner, you very succinctly expressed my approach to the game, teaming, and in your prior post, the view on LJing.

I primarily solo or duo with my wife, and when I team it's with a few friends I actually know irl and we rarely speak about combat situations because we simply don't need to.

I admit I end up dragging the team forward faster than they can recover much of the time, but only because I don't need to rest and I figure if I'm not going to die or cause anyone else to do so, then why shouldn't I help everyone gain xp/inf more quickly by killing everything faster?

Scrapper mentality is Chaotic Good at it's best, and Chaotic Neutral at it's most fun.
  22. My Scrappers:

    DM/Regen
    BS/WP
    Claws/DA
    FM/SR (new fave)

and my wife has a BS/Inv
  23. I went DA. Cause it looks so darn cool. XD

edit: ok so I decided to to come back and edit in some actual useful information/opinion.

DA is kinda slow and very end hungry pre-teens and DOs, and really needs to get to Dark Regen before you feel better about the set's survivability imho.

It really helps that Claws/ is low end to begin with and frankenslotting DA and your attacks with end redux in mind does wonders for it.

Though, since you're new to the game and not loaded with inf, I'd reccommend SR or WP. SR is very inexpensive to make uber, but takes a good while to blossom like the others said. My BS/WP was fairly inexpensive to make effective and very hardy throughout all levels - though Parry from BS did admitedly assist with this.

Best of luck with whatever you choose.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
My BS/WP is the most laughable thing ever. I did a RWZ Challenge x2, solo'd 15 some odd AV's, and tank half the map when the Tanker gets lazy and slow.

    BS/WP = srsbzns.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seconded. Tons of fun and survivability without the micromanagement of Regen. Lots of fun. No end issues and nice big orange numbers. DM/Regen follows as my second fav.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Everything you said makes me want to steer you to Claws/SR.

Very few sets have such a cool concept look as Claws/DA to me though. It's just personal preference but I think they're cool together. I've never played them, though I'd imagine Claws cheaper endurance costs might offset DA's endurance woes. However, soft capping that combination to melee is going to prove troublesome I think.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the advice guys. I decided to go with Claws/DA. SR was extremely tempting due to everything you've said and the ease of softcapping...but I rolled up a Claws/DA just to try out and love the look.

I am most conflicted when my inner min-maxxer disagrees with my creative and aesthetic sense. So, as you said Powerforge, the look got me. I'll just have to save up more inf to make my inner min-maxxer happy.
