Agree completely! Unfortunately I already came up with the reasoning they will use if it does have a slow animation time:

"Though these powers rely on momentum to create the energy to attack your foes with, you do have build up that momentum to be an affective weapon."

Or something to that affect anyways.

Sure, you can find examples where it doesn't, but that doesn't negate that it does.

Unless you're specifically talking about our frivolous gadgetry like cell phones and iPods, etc etc (wasn't really clear from the first post), in which case it has more to do with how you use them. Certainly, a cell phone is easier and saves time more than hunting down a phone booth (especially since they've all but disappeared because of cell phones ). Almost all your examples were not the tech not making life easier, but the users making their own lives more stressful. It's not the tech doing that, it's operator error.
My first post responding to you said it best - "Your forgetting as well Decorum, that the easier we make our lives, the more junk we try to fit in to fill them." Like it or not that will always be the problem. Even if we don't do it to ourselves, someone else will try to do it for us such as bosses, spouses, girlfriends, friends, parents, siblings, children, etc . . . that is the problem with our loveable and helpful little gadgets. Of course as you said - "Unless you're living in a hut or cabin somewhere happy with a subsistence living off the land"

I at least am not a FOOL trying to convince myself otherwise.

I think I said that in the second part of my post. Let me see . . . Yep, there it is: "Now if they actually made these costumes into the proper costume parts? That I would pay more for. Say $4.99 for a pack of 5 costume sets. That sounds more reasonable to me."

In addition, on the costume front (which is of particular importance to me) I certainly can't make a lot of the characters looks I would like to make!!!
At first I wanted to agree, but then I started thinking about the other games I have seen and played. Not a single one has the depth that CoX has for costumes or powers. Was there an exaggeration? Definately as all games and the people behind them always do, they are trying to sell a game after all. But that exaggeration is fairly well grounded in truth.

As for my vote on a new slogan - "The future . . . today"

Technology making your life easier and better all the time.

Just because there are technological things that don't make your life better and don't give you more leisure time doesn't negate that there are such things that do.
Your forgetting as well Decorum, that the "easier" we make our lives, the more junk we try to fit in to fill them.

Want a different example? OK, accountants 50 years ago had a very small base of clients because of the lack of "techno" gadgets. Today they have a much larger client base than then. Last I read by about 2,000%. Also the level of stress in that job field has also dramatically increased. Is that making life easier? (look it up, it's actually fairly easy to find in a few hours of on-line searching)

Stoves make life easier? Ever try to make a holiday meal with one stove? I have, it sucks. Somehow I convince myself I can do it all for 15 people and almost don't make it. The stress I feel from these events is ENORMOUS, and I like cooking.

Electricity makes our life easier? Maybe, but at the expence of adding pollution and carcinogens into the atmosphere that are killing us and our environment. I'm not even a green freak and I can recognize that.

And Microwaves make my life easier sometimes I will admit. Except when I am trying to figure out what settings and times I need and how to program that in. The designers of these devices seem to think that the more "programming" they can fit in, they better the machine. Personally, I disagree and I think many will agrre with me.

Now, transportation of goods or even people . . . have you even tried to mail something cross country lately? How about take a trip? Travel in any form SUCKS. The bus or train takes forever, driving a car you have to deal with other crazy people on the road, and a plane? I don't even need to go into the hassle of airports thanks to some fanatics out there.

You completely ignored my most important point in my previous post, so I'll repeat it - "I love my technology gadgets, but I have absolutely NO illusion it is making my life any easier and anyone that does is playing themselves for a FOOL."

Hey SinergyX, try not to get to worked up. As usual I can't participate either since I live in Hawaii. Neither can players from Alaska, Central, and South America, or you Europeans. Thems the breaks. I can't even imagine trying to comply with regulations for the 48 states, let alone all the other countries you are complaining about. It's the price you pay for playing the game and living where you do. Yea it sucks, but it is a stale old rant that is not likely to get any fresher with more repeats, nor is it likely to change their policies.
  8. I apologize for reviving this thread, but I thought everyone might want to know that GameStop now seems to know what is going on. I pre-ordered the game through them today and they told me about the promotion AND the August 17th release date. Maybe I had an unusual experience, but I am hoping not. GL to the rest of you that decide to pre-order through GameStop.

Hmmm . . . $4.99 per costume power? . . . I might be willing to spend that much for ALL of them as a single "Costume Pack" but to be honest, their "coolness" lasts for about 3 uses each, not including jokes with friends. Then it starts feeling like WoW . . . "Hey nice costume, but I have to look like that all the time?"

Also, I recall it saying that all the leisure time means that arts and so forth have flourished in Praetoria, which is the in-story reason why it honestly looks like a real city, and apparently needing to worry about essentials results in Paragon's architecture being restricted to blocks with windows painted on.
Easily overpower one of these clockworks? Are you serious? Superheroes are "slightly" challenged there, how would a normal person do it. Anyways that really doesn't matter.

Think about this though. How much has technologoy really made your life easier and given you more time for leisure? I'll use the example of a cell phone. It is great! You can look up how many calories your dinner is going to be when the waiter brings it to you, if it has internet. Of course by the time you find that your dinner is cold and even less calories since you don't want to eat it then anyways. That made your life easier right? How much of the movie did you miss the last time you went to a theater thanks to that handy dandy gadget? Nice to be able to get a hold of anyone at any time, but they now have the same capability with you.

I love my technology gadgets, but I have absolutely NO illusion it is making my life any easier and anyone that does is playing themselves for a fool.

How many respecs do you need? I mean seriously, we get like 8 or nine already so sure one more can't hurt right? Then do a respec trial and earn it. Stop complaining when you are given something for free that they don't have to give you at all.
  12. Nice to see they will be there again this year.

I just have one question - Will the "Meet and Greet" be an all ages event so that those of us with children who play the game can bring them along?
  13. The write-up on electric control was kinda cool, but the stuff on the clockwork was awesome. Amazingly creepy though. I mean, if we never have to do anything for ourselves . . . what does that leave? Also, what if the government DID become oppression? With one of these things in most homes we would be screwed!

    Awesome Paragon Studies!
  14. This update is pretty good in my opinion, except that it lacks a basic description of the powers. Don't want or need any numbers, but a basic idea of what they do would be nice. Maybe something like: Air Jab - a short ranged "punch" of wind to the abdomin that may causes a minor stun while the enemy tries to catch his breath.

Still though, I haven't been able to even find a page like this on the main site for the rest of the power sets, so I'll take what I can get.
  15. It's kinda funny, but I see a lot of people complaining that new people playing the game get turned off or quit playing because of the Veteran Reward system. Maybe I am completely off base (don't really believe I am but it is marginally possible) but I have talked to a lot of new players and will continue to do so and they all LIKE the Veteran Reward system. As a matter of fact I have heard NOTHING but praise for it. For those that are complaining, try actually talking to these people for yourself and see how far off base you are. Easiest way to find them by the way is to watch the help channel.
  16. Oh poo! They are giving stuff away that I either do not want or already have! Those people in Marketing are morons. My internet is WAY too slow and my computer sucks! They shouldn't call this kind of thing a contest! The times for the EU sucks!

Did I hit enough of the whines? Get over yourselves people. This is meant to be a minor (i.e. - non-costly) treat to current players and nothing more. It was meant to be fun for a relatively small section of the player base that would chase this stuff down, not for the entire games base.

By the way, it really is pathetic to complain about free stuff that is being given away.
  17. Alas Paragon Studios seems to be getting better at letting information trickle out. Very nice teaser article there. The IGN author did a good job. Nice pics, and a good video.
  18. I do not know if they ever updated the fansite kit, but what they do have can be found from the main website. Click on the Community sidebar, then Fan Site Kite (last entry).

    Hope that helps.

The Devs have said repeatedly that you can't change your alignment until after level 20, and since we don't currently have a mechanism in the game to change your alignment, it's pretty obvious to me that there is going to be new 21-50 content in GR.

Again, I could be wrong, and if I am, I will be VERY disappointed myself, but my assumption is that they are not going to add one or two story arcs that players have to go through ad naseum with every character they want to side-switch. Since the price of GR is similar to the price of CoH and CoV when they came out, I fully expect a similar amount of content all the way from 1-50 that those games had at launch.

And maybe your saying, "Well, where does that leave those of us who don't want to switch sides?" My answer would be, the same place it leave those of us who do - the new missions are going to have moral choices which can shift your alignment based on what you choose. Want your hero to stay a hero? Make the moral choice. Want you villain to stay a villain? Make the immoral choice.

The one thing I think everyone needs to keep in mind is that CoX as a whole is a six year old game with the combined content of two whole games plus 18 free issues and six years worth of development. Don't expect Paragon Studios to match that amount of content in one expansion to the game, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I just hope, as others have said, that Incarnates doesn't become the new Cathedral of Pain/City Vault where it gets pushed back indefinitely. If the full Incarnate system is introduced in I19 in late 2010 or VERY early 2011, I will be satisfied because I too am really looking forward to this system.
AHHhhhhhh! I find myself agreeing with mousedroid! Very uncharacteristic of me. Seriously though, very good post. I don't completely agree with you, but it is well reasoned and written. Posi Rep for you sir!

Personally, I think people are forgetting that in order for the whole Incarnate System to work at all, there has to be a LOT more 50+ content. Maybe I am being over-optimistic, but they do go hand in hand here.

I remember a long time ago getting the "Cathedral of Pain" addition to the game and that lasted about a week or two before they yanked it off. Why? It wasn't ready. We had a right to be mad about something being released before it was ready, we would be stupid to be mad at them for holding the release of this until it is properly polished.

Bravo to the staff of Paragon Studios for making this well thought out decision and letting us know WELL in advance. My hats are off to all of you. I at least appreciate the information and I think many more will when they take the time to really think this through.

Sorry y'all but, I am quoting myself in order to reply to a Negative Reputation Point I received. Pretty sure that point came from the person who posted after me, but in any case they didn't have the courage to leave their name so I'll never know. Original post is on page #6 if anyone wants to see it in context.

WELL in advance isn't a month before it goes live.

Actually, over a month in advance of going live is pretty darn good. Would you have rather they waited until the week before release or even on the date of release? Maybe you would have preffered it was never announced until after people had been grinding away for it and could never get it? Kinda like the e-mail fiasco.

Well said and backed up by several posts by Avatea, the last online "Q & A", as well as HeroCon.
  23. I am seeing a lot positives and a negative with Issue 18 and GR coming out. But to be honest with all the positives the sole negative of CoP now being a trial with no Item of Power, is really relatively minor. As for the PvP issues, sorry folks, I'm just not a PvPer, never have been and probably never will be, so I really have a hard time sympathizing with you. All in all, I can't wait for the release on August 17th.
  24. Fiery_Redeemer, I want to be the first to say that you have an awesome arguement on all accounts. Don't worry about your english, it was almost flawless and easily understandable. Your arguements themselves are well supported and well wrtitten. I am sure that even people who disagree with you will have to at least admire the strength of your arguement. All-in-all, EXCELLENT.

Positive Reputation Point from me to you!
