  1. I just hope that incompetent boob from the Villain tutorial, Jenkins, makes an appearance in the new and improved Primal tutorial. I always get a kick out of how easily he gives you up when questioned by Longbow. Very funny.
  2. I've played everything except for Kheldians (absolutely no interest whatsoever). I only have 1 Defender left. I just don't enjoy my lack of ability to solo with them. Corruptors are also a little dry for me.

Otherwise, I'm all over the map. Currently I'm enjoying bashing heads, so I'm playing more Banes, Brutes, and Scrappers. A few months ago, I was all about my Controllers. That's the fun thing about this game-VARIETY!
  3. I only delete a character if I actively dislike the powersets I've chosen, or the character is, for whatever reason, incredibly frustrating for me to play. I've only deleted about 10 characters in 84 months (I have 46 active alts).

    The Wow! Factor

I had a level 30 Crab that had kind of run out of gas a few years ago. I decided to take advantage of the new second Build option that had been added to the game, and created a Bane build. Wow! He's now level 50 and chewing through the Incarnate missions. With T4 Musculature, his attacks do 128% damage.

Plus, walking up behind a purple enemy, tapping him on the shoulder, and bringing down his Mace in a Shatter attack is the best sound/look/feeling that this game has to offer. Very satisfying!
  5. I generally take 1 attack power to give me a little damage capability. Plus, it serves as a Taunt when I want to pull an enemy to my minions/traps/ambushes, etc.

For my Necro/Pain, I like Gloom because I can slot a couple of -tohits in it. That way, I'm doing some damage AND helping keep me and my corpses safer.
  6. I have a Mercs/Traps who's at level 34 and has been a lot of fun to play, thanks to a combination of good concept/name/theme. However, I haven't done any IO's on him yet. I put together the following plan, focused on defense and s/l resistance.

I'd like some feedback on the build and any advice that can make it better. This alt isn't made of money, so I'm trying to keep the price to a "reasonable" level.

  7. I went with Aid Other/Aid Self on my Incarnate Bane. His defenses are just past the soft-cap already and the Medicine Pool comes in handy for those times when you DO get hit hard by someone (it happens to us all).

Be sure to add an Interupt Enhancement so you can click on Aid Self during the battle. An enemy may get one lucky hit on you, but it's nice to refill your green bar while he continues to flail away in a continuous string of Misses.
  8. UPDATE: My Axe/Shield Brute is now level 22 and has made the successful transition from Praetoria (where he excelled) to Paragon City. This was the first character I've created who actually allowed me to enjoy Praetoria. He's tough enough to handle whatever was thrown at him. I hung around until lvl 21, finishing up my storyarcs.

On my proposed build, I decided to take Aid Other and Aid Self instead of Kick and Tough. At this early stage, my defenses just aren't high enough to keep me protected adequately, and the Medicine Pool has been very helpful. I may try to max out my defenses with IOs later without switching back to the Fighting Pool. Good idea or bad?

As always, that transition from Praetoria to the "regular" game is kind of weird. I went from being a Top Dog, on a first-name basis with Praetors and even the Emperor himself, to street-sweeping Warriors and Freakshow. I've found that all my Praetorian characters run into this, and I end up "taking a break" from playing them for awhile as a result.

I took others' advice and purchased the Kismet 6% Accuracy recipe. I'm also going to play around with my build a little so I can get Grant Cover for the LOTG + Recharge. Thanks!
  9. This sounds like some good advice. I think a respec at a higher level (32+) to dump Beheader and move Chop up would make some room for Hasten or Grant Cover. I'll look into True Grit, too, for maybe "down-slotting" and using those slots elsewhere.

I haven't tried the Performance Shifter proc before. Is it fairly reliable? If I can use it in Stamina AND my Ancillary Power Pool picks, that may be worthwhile. I'm hoping to avoid the whole "do a couple of attacks and wait for my END to recover" situation that's marred some of my characters in the past, so more END is always good.

Granite Agent, I LOVE the Mace powerset, but I have a level 31 Mace/Elec Brute and an Incarnate Bane (my favorite) with all the Mace melee attacks. Incredible power, but time for a change.
  10. I came up with a nice character concept which fits an Axe/Shield Brute. here's what I came up with for a build:

This would be for solo and some teaming (primarily once he gets further along). I plan to try to get his defenses up and END down through IO's once he hits level 30 or so.

    What do you think?
  11. I finally broke down and ordered a new computer. I remember seeing the answer to this question a long time ago, but couldn't find it again tonight.

Which files do I need to copy over from my old computer to my new one in order to get CoH up and running again?
  12. According to Mids, I can choose a variety of Patron Pools or Power Pools for my Bane. However, even after moving him from villain to rogue, I can't access the Energy Power Pool during my respec. Is Mids wrong, or is there something in-game that I'm not doing correctly?
  13. So you're saying you can use Threads to craft items for the Alpha slot?

I can't find this information anywhere. Everything I've read has stated that only Shards can be used to create Alpha components (Hero 1 DNA, etc.)

Please let me know if this is incorrect or outdated information. I stepped away from the game for 4 months and when I came back, there was a TON of new systems/currencies/items/etc. I'm very confused.
  14. I really enjoy my Mercs/Traps MM (lvl 34). He's not as devastating in missions as my Thugs/Dark, but he's got a great concept, background, and look, and he can hold his own in a fight as long as I pay attention and don't go on auto-pilot with him. He's not a min-maxer, but he's fun to play.

Give it a shot, I say.

  16. The only big question I have that LOST never explained was this: Why were the Others so mean?

I mean, I get that they're "protecting the island" for their unseen leader Jacob, but why are they so incredibly paranoid that, when a passenger airliner falls out of the sky, they immediately assume the island is threatened by these people? Why wouldn't they just show up at the survivor's camp (in rugged make-up if they prefer) and announce that the island is theirs, but they'll help the Oceanics build a raft and pointed in the right direction. It's not like they'd ever be able to find the island again anyway, what with it moving around and everything.

Also, why did Cindy the Stewardess become such a loyal Other? I always wanted a Cindy episode to show how she eventually came to drink the Others Kool-Aid.

The actress who played Cindy does those commercials for HughesNet now. That's the Internet access for people who live in rural, out-of-way places who want an option to Dial-Up. I always think it would be hilarious if they super-imposed a picture of the Dharma barracks behind her while she's doing her commercial.
  17. Well, I ended up lowering my difficulty level from +1/x1 to -1/x1 on my Earth/Storm Controller, and managed to kill Trapdoor pretty easily. He conned Yellow to me this time, and he only created 1 clone, as opposed to about 5-6 the previous times. However, that one clone made him completely invulnerable until I killed him. Then Trapdoor went down fast.

I think the problem I was having before was that Trapdoor ALWAYS had another clone somewhere on the map, despite the fact that I was flying around, trying to kill each one I found. I couldn't hold him in place AND kill every single clone at the same time, as he created clones so fast.

Apparently, even ONE clone makes Trapdoor invulnerable.
  18. Yep, I chased the clones as soon as I saw another one appearing (they're easy to kill). What surprised me was that, on returning to Trapdoor, none of my attacks did anything. I thought I would have had at least some initial success against him.

Maybe he has a clone closet somewhere in there with a lot of extras just standing around, regen'ing their Master.

I think I'm going to hang around Mender Remiel tomorrow and look for people in the same predicament. Unlike most missions, though, this one seems designed as a more "personal journey" for characters, going from regular folk to Incarnate, so big teams seem to me to be a little out of place here.
  19. Yeah, the "new" version of Trapdoor makes Nosferatu look like a Hellions Minion.

I couldn't get his Health to budge with my Earth/Storm Controller, despite using every slow, debuff, hold, immobilize, KD, and damage (both personal and Pet) that I had. On one attempt, I ran in before he had had time to burficate and tried to perma-hold him with Volcanic Gasses, Fossilize, Fissure, Thunderclap, and Stalagmites, while Stony, Tornado, Lightning Storm, and I all whaled on him. He STILL managed to bifurcate through all of that! I ran around killing his clones while my pets kept on him, but he still was at full power. At one point, I had him in the lava with all of the above on him and still nothing.
  20. Good question. I didn't check with Freedom Corps, but I did double-check in the Missions header list, and it showed -1/x1 right above my mission. The mission is definitely a level 20 mission, too, which is why I was confused as to why I was encountering all Yellows and Oranges instead of Whites and Blues.

I'll try to change my sretting to +0/x1 and see if it actually "improves". If I suddenly find myself fighting Oranges and Reds, then I'll KNOW I'm in trouble!
  21. She's had an interesting life, to say the least. I watched, expecting to see a really funny, touching show. Instead, it was kind of uncomfortable and embarassing.

I've seen her in other TV appearances, and she can be very funny, but this was more of an "airing out of dirty laundry" kind of thing. Plus, she seemed so tired! I thought she was going fall asleep on that couch.

I did enjoy the chalkboard with all the family relations on it. When your "family tree" has Elizabeth Taylor on it, and she's NOT the most-married person there, you've got some problems!
  22. Very true. This is the first alt I tried -1/x1 on, as I wanted to get her out of Praetoria. I forgot to bump it back up to +0/x1 before starting the mission. That's why I was surprised to see the mission looking like +1/x1 instead of -1/x1. I wasn't sure if the mission was "confused".

I'm at work right now, so I don't have my build available, but at level 20, I have Dark Blast, Gloom, Tentacles, and Night Fall as my damage powers, and Twilight Heal, Tar Patch, Howling Twilight, Shadow Fall, Fearsome Stare and Darkest Night. Also, Hover and Fly.

My problem with the first 3 Yellow minions was twofold. Though slotted with 2 DO Accuracies each, I was missing 50% of the time (all 3 times I fought them). Despite using FS, Tar Patch, Tentacles (tohitdebuf), and Darkest Night, I was getting hit 90% of the time.

After my eventual victory against these 3, I hovered around the corner to encounter the Orange Lt. and Yellow minion, who started in on me with the same success. I quit at that point.

Bad luck getting hit. Bad luck with Missing continually. Bad luck with higher-conning mobs than normal. That's why I had to question the settings. I have better luck with "normal" difficulty settings.
  23. I took advantage of the new -1 setting in Praetoria to get my Dark/Dark Corruptor from 13 to 20 as quickly as possible. Now she's at level 20 and in Paragon City. Unfortunately, I'm running into a problem with her setting. I just attempted mission from Ray Cooling that had her facing all Yellow and Orange SWAT Team members.

My Corruptor doesn't have the firepower or the tools to handle this level on her own yet, and died a bunch of times before I just quit for the night. (Also, the cop who I think is supposed to help her in the mission never made it into the sewers. He disappeared and never returned.)

It's a level 20 mission, so enemies should be Whites and Blues, right?
  24. I've unlocked the Alpha slot on 2 of my 5 50s so far (1 with Cardiac Radial, one unslotted).

Of the remaining 3, one (Earth/Storm Controller) will get her Alpha Slot soon, one (Ice/Traps Corruptor) isn't very fun to play, so he'll stay permanently shelved, and one (WP/Fire Tanker) has some real IO slotting problems that I need to work out before continuing on with him.

Meanwhile, I'm playing a 45 Controller and 40 Brute a lot, so they may be my next Alpha candidates.
  25. *******UPDATE FOR I19***********

Issue 19 is upon us and, as noted a few months ago, the changes with inherent Fitness and damage-enhanced Cobra Strike have made this combination better than ever.

After testing, I went ahead and replaced Thunder Kick with Cobra Strike, and was pleasantly surprised. Cobra is now my lead-off attack power, as the stun is a great way to take an opponent out of the picture.

My attacks of AS (KD), Storm Kick, Cobra Strike (stun), CAK, Crane Kick (KB), Dragons Tail (AoE KD), and Eagles Claw (stun, high damage), coupled with Quickness from SR, makes this character a ST damage monster.

With inherent Fitness, I was able to move Aid Other and Aid Self up from the 40s to the teens, and was able to add Combat Jumping (for the extra defense to take me right up to soft-capped Melee defense (45.01%) and the Body Mastery Ancilliary Pool. I chose Conserve Power and Physical Perfection to help with the one weakness in my build-Endurance. Physical Perfection, though slotted for health, also adds 0.11% to recovery, which is needed. I find that I run through my attacks so fast that I tend to eat up the blue bar.

I also managed to take advantage of the Incarnate System and chose (no surprise) Cardiac for END needs. Accuracy, Damage, and Recharge are no problem on this alt, so the decision was a simple one.

Below is my current build. Please note that I placed my slotting for Health and Stamina in Sprint and Rest. Also, the Regen Tissue Unique I have listed in Aid Self is actually slotted in Health.

I hope this Guide (and the changes I've made as the game has changed) can help show that building a MA/SR Scrapper is even more fun and rewarding now than it was in the past.
