Incarnate Shard Question
There are 2 sets of recipes for each level of Alpha,
one set that uses Shard components and one set that uses Threads.
You can take you're pick and intercraft up tiers.
So I did;
T1 Threads, T2 Threads, T3 Shards, T4 Shards
I am blind. Thank you very much.
It's worth noting that (as Jamie did) it makes a lot more sense to use shard components for T3 at the very least. A Notice of the Well is much easier to get than a rare thread component. Tier 4 is more of a toss up, it takes a while to farm up the 40 threads you'll need (32 for the favor and 8 for the uncommon) so if you run the trials a lot and get lucky it might be easier to go that route.
So you're saying you can use Threads to craft items for the Alpha slot?
I can't find this information anywhere. Everything I've read has stated that only Shards can be used to create Alpha components (Hero 1 DNA, etc.)
Please let me know if this is incorrect or outdated information. I stepped away from the game for 4 months and when I came back, there was a TON of new systems/currencies/items/etc. I'm very confused.
Please try my arcs:
Arc# 63910 "Why Do Bad Girls Like Bad Boys?" (length=Long, levels 40+)
Arc# 401500 "How to Be a Successful Professional Criminal" (length=Very Long, levels 1-10)
So you're saying you can use Threads to craft items for the Alpha slot?

Virtue Server-
MA: (All SFMA, all technically long/very long, but all play quickly)
#200411 "Exploding Planet" (I apologize in advance for the final mission, but in all likelihood, the planet will explode.)
#144416 "Shadow of Grime Alley"
#161003 "You Don't Know Beanstalk, Jack"

The documentation on the CoH websites isn't updated as religiously as the information on paragonwiki.com. Unfortunately, the best place to get this information is in the game itself, and there's not a lot of explanatory material to help you make sense of it.
I'm also disappointed at the profusion of currencies, but there are legitimate reasons for their introduction. I just wish the devs could accomplish the same goals without forcing people to participate in exactly the same content over and over and over.
It wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't crash every other time I ran a trial, or the server lag during the prisoner escape on full leagues wasn't so awful.
I'm planning to craft Alphas on a few characters this way, since you can average better then one component per trial if you do them gradually, an Empyrean Merit (worth one common) plus some other component on the reward table plus a few threads and Astral Merits, vs a TF shard component plus MAYBE enough shards to make another.
And I agree, doing a Tier 3 Alpha is likely to be faster with the Notice of the Well then waiting for a Rare Incarnate component, depending on your luck. Especially if you wait for a fairly fast and popular WST for the Notice, like the ITF or even this weeks Positron part 1.
I would suggest *opening* the Alpha slot via the Oro arc rather than trials, unless you are a really pathetic soloer and can't manage to get a Shivan to help it should be faster. And people are usually willing to help with the Trapdoor mission, for example.
If you take a new 50 into the trials and unlock your alpha there are you able to use the threads to craft the alpha requirements? Do they breakdown into shards? How is this handled?
