I generally use Fireball -- it is very satisfying to throw a fireball, and then have that blast of flame linger as a burn patch. If for some reason, Fireball misses, then I have another shot to light it with Fire blast.
I thought that they had fixed it to light all the time now? I'm not sure why but my recollection of the time before they fixed it it was a 50/50 chance to light by fire or energy. After they fixed it, for a little while, it wouldn't light at all. Then it was finally fixed to light with a 99% chance.
I'm not trying to argue this point just giving my interpretation of it.
  2. If there's a patron pool out there that would be worth exploring what would you suggest I roll with till I can get crossed over?
  3. I'm mainly torn on which epic to go with. When I started this toon I made sure I had the right origin to go with OSA to light it so fire or primal epics are not mandatory. I was kind of leaning towards psy epic for the mez protection but have also toyed around with ice epic. I'm torn and dont know what to do.
For this build I think my main focus is going to be +rech to get PA perma. I just took and threw something together on mids, minus slotting, to give an idea on what I would have most likely gone with. I'm not married to this build and would like to hear your opinions on the pros and cons for the epics and if whether or not this build can achieve perma PA.

    Troll Raves

I've been pursuing this badge on one of my alts on freedom for the past 2 weeks.
I usually only have about an hr of time to play but I haven't seen any.
  5. I'm planning on setting up my 2nd build for general teaming and TF's and am at a loss on how to build it. I'm kind of leaning towards speed and teleport for pool powers, for hasten and recall friend of course. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
  6. Thanks for your replies. I really want to try to make this toon work better in PVP.
  7. Thank you Pine for that excellent post. It was a very well thought out and constructive post that I enjoyed reading.

I'm not a big fan of knock-back on this toon that's why I chose blaze mastery over body. I had weapon mastery with the last build and devastation was slotted into shuriken. That's where the hold proc comes in, being that shuriken recharges much faster and animates faster than Impale, I didn't want to waste the set while saving up for the Apoc's.

I never thought of the slow resist proc, I made adjustments to put that in combat jumping.

Gift of the Ancients slotting was a great idea that I hadn't thought of that will defiantly make it into my build. I don't have ninja run and the extra slot in swift was in effort to speed my non travel power butt up. Back in the day before IO's were around I toyed around with a build that didn't have a travel power but had 3 slotted sprint, swift, quickness and hurdle. That was pretty quick it seemed and I had over drive in the form of Elude when I needed it. Having no travel power whatsoever can feel slow.

With being softcapped I don't have to worry so much about aid self being interrupted. If I were not softcapped I would definatly have an interrupt enhancer in there. My observation so far with it is that I have a 95% chance that aid self WILL go off. The other 5% I'll just have to munch down some skittles.

What alpha slot enhancement would you choose? I'm all set on defense and recharge isn't that important on this build, that leaves damage and endurance. Thoughts and opinions?
  8. So I finally got around to doing my i19 respec for my 1st 50, a spine/sr/blaze scrap. Before I did the respec I had almost softcapped the build but was coming up short because I was being hardheaded about taking aid self and refusing to take weave. Now I can take both and still have all the powers I need/want.
Since unlocking my Alpha slot I plan on going the Cardiac route. This build I'm going to post seems a bit end heavy with some powers. Take a look and let me know if that's a wise choice.

  9. Is there any chance we could get this thread stickied? There's a lot of valuable ideas in here and having it at the top of the list will show how adamant we are that we want a change.
  10. Did you build for ranged def? My focus first was for range in my powers then it was +HP and recharge. Should I pick up Raidant strike? I'm kind of thinking I should. My tactics so far is to fight from the air and when others fly after I dont really have a way to keep them from coming after me.
Well gotta get back to work.
    Shhhhh don't tell my boss

Does anyone know if there's a trigger to get the trolls in skyway to start raving?
  13. Ok here's what my planned build was. After planning this build and figuring wth I like to live on the edge sometimes, I pooled my resources and got about half of this build completed. I only have 1 set of gladiators jav slotted, it's in nova blast, and 1 set of Javelin volley slotted. The rest of the ST range attacks have devastations slotted. Annnnnd there's no purples slotted yet either.

So far with it my forays in pvp have been mixed. I have a pretty good survivability rate with keybinds for the forms and quick heals and other clickys to mininmize my time out of nova. The offensive side tho is laking. Anyone have some wisdom they could drop on me? Would this not yet fulfilled build have the offensive force I'm looking for?

Think about it after getting your L32 upgrade you have a choice. Do you want a medic, a grenadier, or a flamethrower trooper? Then every time you summon and upgrade he is that specialty. The only way to change it would be with a respec. Spec-Ops could have Sniper, CQB, and Riot. Commando could have standard, explosives expert, or suppressive fire.

So this is how I see this working. L32 you go to the Arbiter pick your upgrade then you get a screen like SOA's do at 24 where you pick the specialties of your troops. Then whenever you use the L32 upgrade they get the special gear.

Soldiers : Only one Soldier would change the other two would stay as is.
    • Medic : AOE heal, Single target Heal, Stimulant, (maybe Triage Beacon as well) SMG attacks (same as current medic)
    • Grenadier : Frag Grenade X2, Nail bomb (AOE minor DOT -recharge -speed), Pistol attacks to fill chain. (Would have 2 or 3 bandoleers with grenades and holster.)
    • Flamethrower : Ignite, Burn, Something, Something (Incendiary Grenade?) (Could use either the Longbow flamethrower or a WWII USA Flamethrower look alike)

Spec-Ops : I would like both to change but balance would get in the way of the COOL factor.
    • Sniper : Stealth, 50Cal Snipe, 7.62x51mm Snipe, AR attacks, (BIG sniper rifle on their back maybe even put ghillie suits on them.)
    • Close Quarters Combat : Stealth, Buckshot, Slug, Pummel, Rifle Butt, Smoke Grenade and or Placate of some kind. (Would also have a shot gun.)
    • Riot : Flashbang, Tear gas, Web Grenade, Glue Grenade Venom Grenade. (Would carry the big grenade launcher that the Council/5th Column has all the time.)
    Comando

    • Standard : Same as he is now but with lower recharge on LRM.
    • Explosives Expert : Claymore mine (non interruptible) Frag grenade, Satchel charge, Shape charge (Single target high damage), LRM (snipe attack same as current), RPG (PAOE short recharge, moderate/low damage, high knockDOWN chance) Would carry the big tube missile launcher the Council/5th Column use.
    • Suppressive Fire : Gatling Gun attacks, Gun Drone, Most attacks would be AOE or Cones (Can use the same Minigun the Council/5th Column do.)

I'd like to say that's one of the best idea's I've read in a looooooong time.
I give this idea 5 out of 5!!

Someone give this guy a cookie!
  15. I would hope the Dev's would buff Mercs before they come out with another primary.
  16. Are any of the builds I find on the forum still viable? I'm finally doing the big push to get this toon pvp ready and I'd like to see what other ppl are successful with and see if I can adapt to it or adapt it to mine.
  17. Is PFF really that good in pvp? Last time I tried it was just after I13 and it was horrendous.
  18. Look, mercs don't need much in the way of buffage other than the issues brought up.

    1. Serum is borked in it's current state, utterly useless garbage.
    2. Pet mez powers are horribly short lived, I can live with short duration but the long recharge is a little overkill.
    3. Commando's big hitters take too long to recharge.
    4. Medic, this dude needs remedial training to actually act like a medic!!
On the medic issue I remember back to my army days and disciplinary actions being taken because I had not done my job correctly. Those times when the medic goes off and punches a mob in the face I get visuals of using some of those disiplianry actions on the medic. He'd be begging me to take his grenade away from him by the time I'm done with him!
If I missed anything feel free to add it in there.
  19. That's good, I'll be smiling for a while on that one! lmao
  20. Nobody's said it yet. I'd like to see /kin for MM's.
    Ever seen ninjas drink monster?

It's a great disruption toon, love the combo, but seems substandard in the dmg department. Maybe I'll start using some of the new temps for xtra dmg.

One of the things I find annoying with it is all the dmg that Phantom army does doesn't always benefit you if you're traveling. It's too bad that pets can't keep up with fast paced PVP.

Looks like I need to think up a few strategies since I dumped a bucket load of inf on this toon.

So I went with my posted build and I'm thinking it's lacking in dmg. Did a 1v1 with a plant/therm troller and was repeatedly defeated. Seems like I'm not packing enough punch. Once fitness becomes inherent I'm going to pick up ice blast maybe. I'll know more when mids comes out with an update.
    Should I bother with phantasm?

Ok, here's the build I'm going to go with. I think I covered all the bases on this one. Let me know if I should juggle anything.
I have in mind to switch the kd proc into acid arrow and put a touch of lady grey proc in oil slick. That I do belive I just might do.
Looking at it a little more I dont know if I need to keep the stealth proc in sprint, yes or no? dunno /e shrug

Well I'm gonna dump a bunch of inf on this toon real soon here cuz I already have some of the purple sets and a few other key pieces. I'm gonna work on a build and see what I'll be happy with.
Should I get both invis powers? for kb prot mules at the minimum
