Does anyone have any tips for a good Ill/Ta pvp build. I've had this toon for quite some time now and have her half slotted with purps and half bought/crafted sets. I cobbled together a rough pvp build, can be posted but must find or create first, but have no clue what I must take for a good zone build. I'm currently using psy epic but am open to change if something else sounds better.

well for starters get some knock back protection fro IO sets, get ice epic, jump, speed, tactics, Get your phants and perma PA, and try to ground and debuff as many players as you can.

Here's the build I had planned out and am still in the process of building. I do plan on changing to ice epic. Any other slotting changes you'd suggest?

Don't quote me on this one, haven't played my TA for an issue or two prior to i13 but this is something I threw together. The big thing is a little more recharge and a pile more HP (Breaking the 1500 mark). Not really sure which is better off hand, spec wounds or ice blast for damage, can likely check that out with real numbers in game and adjust accordingly.

I also liked OSA and disruption arrow for setting up those death traps though I was earth/TA so with quicksand and volcanic gases it was a bit different.

I'm not sure if having those location based arrows are worth it for pvp. Arena perhaps but zone no way.

I can say even now in freedom RV I've seen the location based ones used pretty effectively especially considering how often the zone pushes back from one side to the other. To me it always seems like more time is spent either standing outside the vill or hero base than actually running around in the open zone. At those points its very common for sides to turtle up (Especially with a few Masterminds in the picture) At which point the location based debuffs start to become really valuable to either side.

I'd say they can be skipped, but they can also be tools that'll come in handy from time to time.

i use disruption arrow to suppress stealth and see stalkers in pvp zones.

in pvp zones, they are worth it, in kickballs, hell no.

Well I'm considering getting back into this toon for some fun times.
Which epic would be better ice or earth? I know ice is good for hibernoob fun and earth is good for earths embrace +hp and seismic smashyness.

I'm planning on taking speed/leaping/fitness and leadership for pools.

Sooo many useful powers with this build and not a clue which ones should have priority. I've heard that spectral terror is good for neutering the occasional AS as well as disruption arrow. Do either of those really take stalkers out of hide? Should I take both of them to almost guarantee not gettin hit by the random AS? Not like they cant just trow sharks at me instead.

Where should I put the placate proc in blind or PGA? I have it in PGA now but I never really thought I could put it in blind because the sleep part of blind is very unreliable. Does it proc regularly in blind? Reading up on the power in city of data and paragonwiki it doesn't go into much detail on how blind works but if it has a chance to proc every click then it's gonna go in there cuz PGA takes too long to recharge.

Also any tips on whether I should be slotting for dmg in my ST hold or should I slot for well..... hold? lol

Thanks for your input and eventually you'll have a sneaking suspicion I'm in the zone. ;P

Slot the placate Proc in Blind. Faster Recharge, and much more reliable than PGA.


As far as your power pools, good choices. Seeing that you have the option of choosing Ice mastery, Hibernate is well worth it, but careful now sometimes it just delays the inevitable.


Holds in pvp are pretty lack luster, with the exception of a few so I'd suggest slotting for dmg in your ST hold.

Spectral Terror/Oil Slick/Disruption Arrow, are all excellent tools for suppressing silly stalker hide, but keep in mind it won't stop you from being AS'd/Sharked in general, it will just give you the ability to react accordingly once you know they are there, which is where most people tend to panic.

Some stalks tend to leap before they look, so they'll run right into disruption arrow, and just turn right around, same with the other powers. Pretty funny to watch.

Well when I19 comes out I can cut out the fitness pool and use something else, not sure what but I'll think of something.

Well I'm gonna dump a bunch of inf on this toon real soon here cuz I already have some of the purple sets and a few other key pieces. I'm gonna work on a build and see what I'll be happy with.
Should I get both invis powers? for kb prot mules at the minimum

Ok, here's the build I'm going to go with. I think I covered all the bases on this one. Let me know if I should juggle anything.
I have in mind to switch the kd proc into acid arrow and put a touch of lady grey proc in oil slick. That I do belive I just might do.
Looking at it a little more I dont know if I need to keep the stealth proc in sprint, yes or no? dunno /e shrug

So I went with my posted build and I'm thinking it's lacking in dmg. Did a 1v1 with a plant/therm troller and was repeatedly defeated. Seems like I'm not packing enough punch. Once fitness becomes inherent I'm going to pick up ice blast maybe. I'll know more when mids comes out with an update.
Should I bother with phantasm?

I found my Ill/TA to be pretty lackluster for the most part...migrating to Gravity Control was like night and day, with the Teleport+Stun, hold, immob, cage (which does almost nothing these days...) and of course Singy.

You can get some nice tools out of illusion though, with the pets, Blind and some like Spectral Terror too if you can pin someone down. I'd agree with Hibernate, lets you take Leadership pool as an alternate in your build.

Edit: I see you want zone focus...in that case the fear totem might not be that hot. Concentrate on Glue Arrow, the immob arrow from TA, your pets and Blind/Deceive as well. Leadership pool always nice to have too. You might be able to get some extra damage from Spectral Wounds or your APP (Power Blast or whatever it's called and other choices). I didn't like Superior Invis on my Ill/TA...waaaay too much of an end hog when you're running Tactics, Maneuvers, Acro, etc. etc...unfortunately you might be tight for slots/power choices...if you have your base two sets + Leadership, Leaping, Fitness (until it becomes inherent) and Speed (for Hasten and Superspeed), gets dicey. Maybe if you wait until Fitness becomes inherent, then you have a little more leeway...not too sure. :/

It's a great disruption toon, love the combo, but seems substandard in the dmg department. Maybe I'll start using some of the new temps for xtra dmg.

One of the things I find annoying with it is all the dmg that Phantom army does doesn't always benefit you if you're traveling. It's too bad that pets can't keep up with fast paced PVP.

Looks like I need to think up a few strategies since I dumped a bucket load of inf on this toon.

Being a TA, you really shouldn't focus on the dmg tbh. You are your teams team enabler, and opposition dis-abler. As the TA, you will be key in spikes on well coordinated teams, as far as rooting foes, and debuffing.

if you wanted to build for 1v1 arena specifically, you'd need to double your budget (Glad Jav proc's etc), but it'd still be sub par for 1v1's.

I'm not sure about Spectral Terror for zone's, unless you find people are standing around alot or you're doing fight clubs (it's a nice set mule tho).

If I took Oil Slick I would prolly just put 2 Lady Grey's (dd/r and r/e) for the hp and call it good. I think you'd get better mileage out of Disruption Arrow tho.

Glue Arrow is the whole reason to make a TA, try to max it's recharge.

I personally like more slots in SJ.

Not positive but I believe the fear petis an autohit and breaks stalkers' hide if they run within range. (Plus a little extra targeting disuption in arena)
