  1. Honestly, I do about the same thing already on Xbox Live with free gamerpics to enter contests and avatar awards, so I wouldn't mind it if it were limited to costume or base items in this game.

I would rather see a comic company or even some independent comic writers step up to sponsor and co-write/design VIP arcs. Kind of like the Guest Author thing in AE, only now they are official and can bring with them badges and such. Just not sure how much NC Soft would charge a writer/artist for that or if anyone other than Marvel or DC could afford it.
  2. I would say add it to Sparky/Sentinel and Shocking Bolt from Elec Mastery.

But I will have to unsign this if a small chaining damage bonus means they have to either lower damage on other powers or change endurance drain amounts on the sets.
  3. I think, for these to be added, the following should be a good outline:

Add to Detail 1 or Detail 2 so they can be laid over faces/masks. Each choice should have a color-tintable domino-like mask so they can be used on their own, too, without a full mask. The second color can tint the pupil/eyespace.

I have also come up with an easier name to call them: Mask Eyes.

The following would be a good mix to include in the game:

Mask Eyes - Regular (see Batman/Black Panther
Mask Eyes - Triangles (see Robin, especially Teen Titans cartoon version)
Mask Eyes - Ovals (see Spiderman)
Mask Eyes - Arcane (see Phantom)
Mask Eyes - Large (see the Tick/Deadpool)

That should be a pretty good mixture for the first batch if they decide to add this feature to the costume creator.

But beyond that it gets very murky. What is a nice bonus to some people could be a necessary crutch to others. Imagine if the Shivians and Nukes, instead of being attempts to bribe people into PvP, were sold in the store. Would that be "letting people FAR outclass those who don't shop"?
I certainly don't want to speak for Sam in any way, shape, or form, but I think he means if the devs can avoid the urge to start adding enhancements-for-sale that give dramatic and huge fundamental shifts in gameplay, they win.

It's the tempting Idol sitting on the rock that most Free2Play game developers foolishly grab and end up getting crushed by the rolling rock of fan dissent. Selling something that gives an obvious and constant advantage (like, say, Alpha Slot-level boosts in a store-only IO set) would generate a lot of quick and easy buys but is it worth the bad forum PR it'd generate?

That's the ying and yang of free to play.
  6. The supernatural face fix is a bandage, but I'd rather see an assortment of various size mask pupils and the such, not just tiny regular eye-sized holes.
  7. Yeah, putting them as a Detail 1 would be an excellent work around as long as they allow us to color around the eyeholes to match a mask or just to use as a Robin-esque domino mask.

That way they can work like glasses and just override the pupils. Detail 1 is the best option!

Edit: Detail 1 with two color selections would be perfect: Selection 1 would be the color of the mask or area around the eyeholes and Selection 2 would be the color of the pupils themselves. A few different options would also be good with various sizes and styles.

I'm honestly willing to bet that a lot of people could have been suckered into accepting the CoT revamp if they'd had marketing dress it up some. I don't think most of us would have been HAPPY with it, but right now it looks like they were just going to SURPRISE us with it, and the howls would have been even louder.
You do realize this is from issue 21, right? And that there's a lot of time between now and when issue 21 hits for them to advertise the change via a website article or a developer's letter, no?

It's unfortunate that this got into the ComicCon demo, but if the demo was of issue 21, it'd be kind of hard to avoid. But I think it's silly to believe they were just going to plop this down on live servers without some fanfare on the website and some backstory in the form of some kind of dev post here officially in the coming months. It's just a matter of priority and with a new issue bringing Free to Play gameplay, new trials, new power sets, a new veteran rewards system, and more to advertise first they hadn't gotten to it yet.

I'm not going to go through this and the original thread to catalog all the flagrant pronoun and hyperbole abuse. I'm just glad Zwill said specifically that they are not only taking into account feedback but also looking into just who posted it, so the standard forum echo chamber of disdain doesn't take effect.
  10. I make this request every year around the same time and I shall continue to do so until I see it done: White Eyeholes for Masks please.

For an example, look at Deadpool, Spider-Man, or even the Black Panther (though they don't have to be white, they can be color tintable to be yellow/gold/whichever).

Right now the closest we can get to this look has been to use full masks with insect eyes. I've had it on my main character for 7 years now and would love to finally be able to update it to its proper white pupil goodness instead of looking like a bug themed hero who shoots electricity.

In the past, when previews, etc., occurred, I do not recall ever witnessing a backlash like happened with the CoT revamp. Groups would come out, like the Midnighters or the Fir Bolg, and most folks responded favorably.

  12. Dear people in this thread and on this forum: please stop with the "EVERYONE thinks this way" posts.

I don't agree with the anti-redesign sentiment. I like the changes and feel the current CoT on live servers are boring and outdated. I don't like doing a Treespec and seeing a room full of a few dozen bad Jawa impersonators who couldn't be less threatening to me if they had a baby bonnet on.

The new Circle of Thorns, to me, actually symbolizes something the current CoT mages do not: Thorns. They are the source of power and yet for the most part they simply are not present to me.

Now those who want to shoehorn everyone into their own feedback: notice my use of possessive pronouns. I didn't say "Everyone," I said "I." This isn't a hive mind and we certainly don't all share your or my opinion, so please post to reflect that.

You will continue to dismiss this request and spam these threads. I will continue to shoot down your arguments until you stop.

Clearly you can see into the future better than I can.
Level ranges mean absolutely nothing at this point in City of Heroes.

And all content drops shards. While the signature system has not been tied to the incarnate system, the devs have been openly vocal that they heard the call for solo incarnate content and it is in the works. Veruca Salt'ing it up and demanding it NOA is unrealistic.

Yeah, it's not like the devs have promised soloable incarnate content in the future and have already announced a system of MONTHLY signature story arcs that promise to be more epic than the current in-game story arcs, giving us more story arcs in one calendar year than we've had in years.

Clearly, the devs have ignored solo players and we must spam the forums about it!

The fact that you ignored my original post entirely to martyr yourself and scream "Help, I'm being oppressed" has brought us here, Bill.

Keep ignoring the reality of the situation. The Eiko-Chans of last month are the AmazingMoos of today. We don't need 5-6 threads in this forum every day saying the same thing, with the same handful of posters replying in them en mass to attempt to make this look like more of a critical issue than it is. The devs have promised future solo incarnate content and unless we're all just ignoring reality, we know that development takes time.

But so far this thread I've seen you hand wave any and all evidence that there are actual people who like the trials as faulty evidence because it gets in the way of what you want. I've seen you post your suggestion for soloable content that only the most min-maxed of characters will be able to complete as your great solution.

Great, Bill. When you get your soloable arc with a level 54 AV that only the most PvP IO'd out scrappers can beat, will you also be here to tell the people posting that the devs wasted time on content most of the playerbase can't solo are wrong and gloat that you did it? Or will you just be happy that you got what you wanted and threaten to let your account lapse in protest once you finish it yet again? Why should the devs waste even an hour of programming time on content that negates almost all ATs who can't even solo an EB of even con status let alone an AV just because you are posting a lot?

"Because it gives us more choices!" you'll whine. But you are wrong. That's not a choice. That's a waste of dev resources. Just like these threads are a waste of forum resources.
  18. Okay, so spamming the same thread over and over again on a daily basis and throwing a forum tantrum is okay as long as you get what you want? Got you.

We get it: you want soloable incarnate content. The devs have heard your cries. And since we're doing trials now that have been in the works for at least a year, it's going to take time to make them. We know there are strike teams doing specific things, so the argument of "ALL RESOURCES ARE DOING RAIDS" now is not credible in this situation.

So if you are saying you and your ilk are essentially holding the forum hostage with the same anti-raiding threads posted multiple times daily, please let us know now. It'll be nice to have a list of forum saboteurs to point to.

And we come to the crux of the problem with the anti-raid sentiment on this forums.

Facts are no longer useful. Only the observations of those who support your ideas are are truly useful. Ignore the fact that RWZ is packed daily with people doing PUG raids, since you can explain that away as "it's the only way to earn incarnate awards" instead of admitting that some people like the trials themselves. I know I've run trials on characters I've already maxed T4'd on just because I like to lead them and help others or even like the random teaming to meet new people.

But let's ignore that, because my anecdotal evidence gets in the way of your anecdotal evidence. And since I'm not going to pester the forum community at large by making 4-5 threads a day to post the SAME anecdotal evidence the anti-raiding crowd is, I guess my own experience is trumped by their ability to spam their discontent.

I might be grinding trials. But you are grinding discontent on a message board. At least in the end of the day, I get some shiny badges and some salvage for my troubles.
  20. You might get a greater response if your argument was based in reality.

The "Players want solo content, not raids" mentality is proven false every single night in Pocket D and RWZ by the masses lining up to still do Lambda and BAFs as well as Keyes.

The "This game has become a raiding game" mentality is being proven false by issues including non-raiding content as well. Even the issue that gave us the first raids included Mortimer SFs and Sutter TFs. We already know with VIP membership we get a signature story arc every month... which is more solo-able content than we ever got with issues that may have included 2-3 of them after 8 months of development.

And finally, maybe this whole anti-raid outcry would look a little better if it were isolated to one place. Spreading it out amongst dozens of threads just makes it plainly obvious that the outcry is just being magnified through quantity of spammed rants by a handful of people.
  21. Pacur, sorry I didn't see this thread earlier so I can chime in.

I joined a Keyes led by Pacur as soon as 20.5 hit live on Tuesday. It was made up of pretty much everyone who was awake at the time, and we only had 18 random people. I know a few of us were old hands who knew the game in and out, but a lot of the players didn't know much about the trial and how it works. We certainly weren't AT-specific. It was a quick and easy success.

This game isn't becoming a raiding game any more than it became a crafting game after inventions or a PvP game (heh, PvP) after the inclusion of PvP. Since issue 20 I've done my fair share of trials on my two main characters, but I've also brought up a level 29 brute, a level 39 blaster, and a level 11 Praetorian corruptor, while also leveling a level 21 peacebringer and a level 42 defender. There has been no shortage of teams and not "everyone" is doing raids all the time.

City of Heroes isn't "becoming" anything. The forums, however, are maintaining what they have always been: a board for hyperbole and hysterical doom.

Trust me, my PMs also include a free change to the badge to make it more accessible to everyone in an AE/new badge system kind of way if they don't just want to charge people for it.

    But I would pay.

    This. So. Much.

Just call them origin retcons. I have two characters (one Natural, one Mutant) who both became more tech as I expanded and played them to level 50.

Yes, I agree with you. *World explodes*

My view/fear is that most of the people on Freedom who exist only to powerlevel through AE will migrate to the VIP server since their market of selling powerleveling will dry up with free players unable to access AE. If that makes the VIP server even a fraction of some of the things I've seen on Freedom before the "Break the Server" challenge day, I want no part in that.

I'd rather stay on Pinnacle and be a big fish in a little pond than a little fish stuck in powerleveling and PvP smacktalk hell on the VIP server.
