Quote:Well, that shoots down my 444M guess...
Day 5 - Starting inf: 445,781,312, Current inf: 458,846,272 Nice work Fury...
My 888M one isn't looking too bad, and I still have the 1.776B if you get
totally crazy...
Keep on Trucking!

I'll chime in with an affirmative also... They can scrap.
For NB/* Stalkers, Divine Avalanche is a beautiful thing.

Time to break out the ice skates people - Hell has definitely frozen over...
Of course, it's also the end of an era - Fulmen's 2B Luck Charms will get
delisted when GR goes live... Wonder if he'll put 'em back up afterwards...

I really enjoy my Night Widow and still play it now and again.
That said, my take on it is similar to that stated by Harkness.
It's not as tough or effective (against the masses) as my Brute.
It's not as sneaky or effective (against tough Bosses) as my Stalker.
It's a nice compromise blend of both of those AT's, so it's more
flexible (in general), but less capable in the areas where those other
AT's excel.
It's definitely less effective than either of those two in PvP also (imho).

idea for the toon's name and why they exist in the CoX world. This can
happen in either order AT -> Bio or Name/Bio -> AT.
Every toon I make has a bio and a reason for existing - That covers the RP
portion of the character and gives me an initial reason to consider making it.
Then, I usually look through the Forums for guides on the specific AT, and
current threads about them. That gives me a pretty good idea on where to
start with the build.
At that point, I spin up a Mid's guide for the build and compare it (loosely)
to other characters I have, in terms of HP, DPS, Def, Rch etc.
I tweak the plan around until I like the basic numbers, and at that stage,
I'm ready to make and play the actual character.
Almost always, as I play it, I get a better sense of how it's behaving and
adjust slotting, and far more often, slot timing (when I put which slots
where), to smooth it out as I play the build.
As the character levels up, I have a second Mid's build for it that covers
what I *actually* did with it as opposed to the original "plan" build.
It's sort of an evolving growth process as the toon levels its way to L50.

As others have said, they ignore stealth, but won't react until normal detection range.
The easiest way I've found to deal with one - either to AS it, or someone next to it, is to
placate the drone first. Then you can get a standard AS off on the target you like and scrap
it out with whoever's left...
You can also use the Placate on the drone to stealth by the entire group, but, make sure you
lose LoS before the placate wears off or it will come after you.

Let's see... I put in 444M, 888M, so I'll double that for my Day 3 (and last)
bid. The fun part now will be seeing where you get over the next 4 days.
So, my Day 3 bid is 1,776,000,000 (1.776 Billion).
Fun Stuff.

Typically, mine are at L28.

I agree with the 4 pts of -KB crowd as well for PvE. That covers most stuff.
Additionally, don't forget about Base Empowerment if you need more -KB
for a specific tf/mission. It lasts an hour and (iirc) it's 10 points of -KB,
and quite cheap to make...
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Knockback_Protection_(Empowerment)
For PVP - it gets quite a bit more involved (and vocal).
Conventional Wisdom says 41-45 points to deal with Force Bolt, Power Push,
Repel and such, especially in the arena.
In zone (depending on *which* zone), it can be a lot less because you're
much less likely to encounter those powers.
High Stealth characters can usually take less as well since the presumption
is they can avoid many of the players that are problematic... For instance,
my PvP stalkers usually slot in the 4 to 12 range for -KB.

Interesting experiment Fury.
Just for grins, put me down for 444 M (Day 1 Guess) and 888 M (Day 2 Guess)

Yep, I ran the mission as I posted last night...
Ran fine, bumped the broker "credit" up properly, and all was generally well.
In fact, I didn't /bug it, along the lines of what je saist said - it IS a valid
door, and the mission worked as normal, so I wasn't 100% sure if it was a bug
or not.
It felt awful weird though...
Glad to know other folks have run into the situation and have /bugged it, so I
presume they know about it now and whether it's WAI or not is their call.
Thanks for the responses folks!

Let's see... Set IO's...
Mine are L28 - L30 for powers below L41. There may be the odd L26 or L27
in there if I it was easier to buy at the time I slotted it...
For powers above L41, they're L35-L45.
For things like hasten (that only take Common IO's anyway), they're
L45 and (maybe) L50 (I'd actually have to check if I have any L50's
in there at all...

On blue side, your origin used to set your starting contact...
On red side (at release, at least) there weren't enough contacts to do that (you
got Kalinda).
Apart from those though, I've never known if there was any rhyme or reason to
the other contacts (particularly Brokers).

So, I'm wandering through Nerva on one of my stalkers and for grins I decide
to run a paper mission while I'm there...
So, I select one (Defeat Officer Nader and Guards), and off I go...
Where does the Nav pipper lead me?
To the AE Building.
The mission "entrance" is the AE portal beam (that you use for AE missions)
Remember, I'm not running an AE mission - I'm running a newspaper mission...
So, I'm wondering if this is normal and other folks are getting sent to AE
for normal missions or if this is just RNG weirding out?
Regards,

PS> I'm not getting tickets or anything - it's behaving like a normal mission should,
except that it's occurring in the AE building... -
It's true - I FARM...
I farm influence/infamy from the uninformed, impatient, buy it NAO mobs
known as "players"It's easy, and it's very, very lucrative.
As for OP's post, the guide problem is now solved, and the other "issues"
depend on what you choose to do with the info and advice you've been
given.

Quote:I couldn't pull his build up in Mid's to see recov numbers, but I can sayThere is one HUGE reason this build won't work. Then lots of other ones.
Turn on your toggles. Check your recovery, check your end drain.
I probably wouldn't build Nin staminaless without significant PvP IO investment. You're better off getting stamina, slotting health procs and building for Ranged defense, some +HP, +Recharge and some +dmg. Also probably want to make sure you have a little more KB protection so you don't get bounced around. Oh and travel speeds are huge for stalkers. Make sure your run speed is capped with the stealth penalty so you can AS anyone.
that my nb/nin is stamina-less and does ok... Mind you, I have all the attacks
slotted so that they have at least an SO of end reduction in them, and
I have several recovery set bonuses, so it takes a pretty extended fight
(fairly rare) to run his end down.
Certainly, the Fitness line has its uses, and provides some good spots to
get some nice set bonuses, but it's still viable to skip that pool if you plan
for the shortcomings.
I agree with you on travel speeds - you need to be able to keep up and/or
chase 'em down (or have a lot of patience)I'm also of the opinion that
a stalker who can't AS fairly regularly should consider a different AT, so
travel speed matters.
My earlier point on -KB is that in-zone, capped stealth is going to mitigate
most of the issue on -KB, and fight selection/timing helps with the rest.
Moreso than other villains, I feel stalkers are less constrained to the magic
41+ -KB plan... I know that's controversial, and as always, opinions and
mileage vary
I also agree with you on HP - I got the various accolades for mine and it's
been helpful.

I'm not versed in the Dark side
but I don't see anything obviously
wrong at first glance (I can't pull it up in Mid's at work).
1> Travel Power - check
2> AS + Placate early - check
3> Proc'd AS - check
4> Hide + Stealth + IO - check
5> Some form of Phase/Hibernate - check
You might want to fit a Reticle - Perception in there to help spot pesky
Defenders, Trollers and Blasters, but it's not a big deal - you can get additional
+Per other ways just as easily (ie. Base Empowerment) and /nin has some
built-in also.
It looks like you have a lot of -KB in there... If you're using a Scrapperish
playstyle or you arena a bunch, I can see it, otherwise, it may be a bit of
overkill - Stalkers can pick their spots, so it's not as critical an issue as it
might be for other vills (Mine only has -4 or -8 in it and does fine in-zone).
Defense might be a little bit light. It gets hit hard by DR, but more is still
better and you might be able to go a little lighter on Global Recharge. Again,
unless you're Srappering a lot, PvP fights are typically short - 1 (maybe 2)
passes through an attack chain and someone is dead, or it's time to consider
bailing for a better opportunity.
Otherwise, it looks like you've got all the key stuff covered...

When I signed up they adamantly refused to tell us any numbers at all...
If you don't mind playing at the default settings, you can still enjoy the game
without knowing any numbers. But, tweaking the numbers can be fun.
As far as difficulty is concerned, there's still no math per se - just static numbers

Quote:Perhaps, but:An impossible suggestion I do believe. Last I knew there were specific regulations for online betting in any kind of game ( which is why there are alot of poker and casino games based outside the US). Adding betting of any kind to COH may make it subject to those regulations, and hence won't be viable.
1> I believe all of those involve *real* money...
2> There are not issues with "exchange". So, it's perfectly permissible to
exchange inf for prestige, for instance... So, if we're exchanging fake money,
inside a game location (however it looks), for tokens, vouchers, Market Merits,
whatever, even at a variable exchange rate, I'm not seeing an SEC sort of
issue here. <shrug>
FWIW, I like the concept, and would encourage the devs to consider the idea.

This approach has its uses. The concept of buy 2, use 1, sell 1 (or 9)
isn't new or particularly difficult.
Doing that isn't free, certainly, but it definitely defrays the costs of the IO's
you're buying for yourself. Depending on how far you take the approach it can
be a significant inf maker as well.
In terms of risk, there are two sides to that coin. Somebody said don't do
this with certain IO's (sleep, confuse, etc.) that aren't good sellers or you
could lose inf.
Possibly - but the flip side of that same coin is that most of those "crappy"
recipes also cost next to nothing (typically 100-1000 inf), so there's not
much cost to defray in the first place, and therefore no need to sell any.
The good ones, however, can make you a decent shekel or two while kitting
out your own build at the same time...

Quote:Can I help, can I, can I?How many forumites does it take to keep resurrecting this public embarassment of a thread?

Aw, crud.
Q. How many devs does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Ten. 1 to write up the project plan. 1 to verify the "glow" animation, 2 to
code and test it. 1 to casually mention that a [lightbulb] is coming Real Soon,
1 to quell the cries of DOOM!!! from the community. 1 to make an "official"
forum announcement about the new [lightbulb], and remind everyone that
a freespec will be included. 1 to bundle it into the live release. 1 to write the
patch notes (2 days later), and finally, 1 more to fix/replace it in a later release
because, due to a bug, it was discovered that the implemented [lightbulb]
was inadvertantly broken when it went live.
Q. How many AE EB's does it take to change a light bulb?
A. All of them - it's the only thing they're good for these days.
Q. How many AE Hostages does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Just one, but you can't get any XP or Tickets for it.
Q. How many Ebil Marketeers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Six. 1 to patiently wait for a low-ball bid to fill, 2 who are actively
flipping light bulbs, 1 really rich s.o.b who buys one for himself at NAO
pricing, 1 who gets one as a drop, realizes there's no profit to be had due
to the flippers and thows it in his S/VG bin, and finally, 1 who sees it sitting
in the bin, and rather than waste space with a worthless item, decides to
replace the burnt out bulb with it.
Q. How many MarketTears does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Are you kidding? Unpossible! Light Bulbs are WAY too expensive to afford.
They don't have enough inf to buy one and purple out their warshades at the
same time!!!
Cheers,

PS> Some of the prior ones are masterpieces, but I laughed outright at the
Stalkers camping the burnt out bulb waiting to AS anyone trying to change it.
My stalker would absolutely do that - Too, too funny!!! -
Typically the settings I use (as a solo player) are:
Code:In the first case I get normal spawn sizes with Orange or Red BossesDiff / Team Size -------------------- Stalker: +1 or +2 / 1 Include Bosses when solo Brute: 0 or +1 / +2 or +3 No Bosses when solo.
(sometimes Purple Boss depending on exact level and enemy faction).
In the second case, I get lots of cannon fodder and Lts - great for
steamrolling along with Fury at a fast pace.
These settings seem to be manageable and fun for me - YMMV

I frankenslot all my toons -- typically with L25-L30 set IO pieces.
If you slot IO's in pairs (ie. an Acc/Dmg, and an Dmg/Rch from the same set),
you can still get some fairly substantial bonuses, (regen, recovery, +dmg, etc.),
depending on what exactly you use. You can usually maximize the core
power attributes and gain an SO or more worth of other benefit (say,
recharge or end reduction, for instance).
As others have mentioned, it's usually cheaper (over the long term), and
you don't get the up & down effectiveness swings like you can with SO's.
