Quote:This.Anything that pits my money versus someone else's money is bad. I have no money = I can't get better perks? No thanks.
I can scrape together enough to pick up the occasional booster which is fluff - because I *like* the fluff. Everything else I earn in the game, thanks. I have an even chance with that stuff. Purchase it? I can't. Everyone who can, therefore, "wins" over me. Sorry, but it's a terrible idea all around.
Buy fluff, it's optional. Earn ingame abilities, it's equally earnable. -
That's because you weren't here during the debacle and have no idea how bad it was nor witnessed the dramatic improvement that occurred since then. Instead you're coming in long after the fact and attempting to pass judgement.

Quote:Lol. Sorry didn't really want to bring up the porn thing, but what he said really fit well in this situation.I agree with you IN THIS CASE, because copyright/trademark violation is a matter of fact. What is porn is opinion. Not a very strong legal statement on Stewart's part.
We also have an appeals system in place to catch the occasional mistakes because even GM's aren't perfect. -
Quote:Awwwwww. I feel so much empathy for those benighted souls FORCED to read yet another thread they don't like about stuff that they hate, like people being concerned about a potential server-merge. Lord knows, they have guns to their heads in case they miss a single word they can flame!
Hostility is hostility. I don't care about these qualifiers of yours; nothing justifies "Don't like it? Cancel your sub and GET OUT!!" its just plain rude, and its a disservice to the game. If the developers want to kick some one out of the game, they will do so without directives from people posting on these forums. I would bet money on it.
I'm right here in the USA. Buying it in Europe is not an issue for me. [You're saying "you" without a qualifying "general," so what else am I to think....]
These are forums devoted to the game; I fail to see anything inappropriate about people posting ideas, feedback or asking questions in them. I know, I know: this is inappropriate of me. I SHOULD be a forum-nazi simply waiting to pounce whenever anyone, anywhere posts anything whatsoever in what I consider the dreaded "WRONG FORUM!!"
I just don't have it down to a science yet.
To our EU friends from across the pond.
That is Bad Influence. One of the colorful characters on the NA forums, known for taking things out of context in order to start arguments.
Don't be afraid . . . She is completely harmless. Her bark is worse than her bite. -
Quote:We don't need to be given clearcut rules to follow. Each and every one of us knows damn well when we are guilty of making a copyright/trademark violation.Yes? And shouldn't the GMs job be much easier then? If there are clearcut rules to be followed we don't have to have these kinds of threads about some poor guy getting genericed.
You think this is a greyscale problem? Not black and white?
//Jack
By not making a clearcut rule NCSoft has given their GM's the flexibility to enforce not only the letter of the law but the spirit as well.
That means players can't argue that one little detail is off so technically they aren't violating the rules.
I believe what Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said about pornography can easily be applied here as well:
I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [Copyright/Trademark violations]; and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it. -
Quote:I think the would tick off a lot of people too. With multiple currencies in abundance, I wouldn't be surprised to see a third type of INF. Redside INF only available when you are redside, blueside INF only available when blueside, Greyside Inf only available greyside.
Yes, this would mean villains need to earn everything again blueside and vice versa. And earn/grind for greyside inf from scratch as well.
And time wasting (much like current inf transfers) for those who mule enhancments over sides to sell for extra. -
Quote:I wasn't trying to address the problems involved with the idea. I was trying to clarify what was being asked for. That being an increase in the number of servers the EU players have access too, and not a merging of servers. You over looked the global handle issue
Remember, there's a separate global system for the EU and US global servers (so 'global' is a bit of a misnomer depending on how you look at it
). Think what happened with the forums... but multiple it by 100... Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the possibility that my global name ends up ending in a region code!
And while I'm sure that many EU players would start playing on the NA servers, I'm just as certain many NA players would do the reverse simply because adding 4 more servers would mean 48 new character slots.
As far as the language barrier being a problem, well we have plenty of experience dealing with NA players that were born and raised in english speaking countries that are unable to communicate in simple sentences. -
Quote:If they were to merge servers it would probably be Freedom with the French server. Freedom has a rep for being as rude as the French.Avatar Name change wouldn't be needed if the serever lists were merged. That is to say you log in and have the choice of all the NA and EU servers, thus the Avatars on Union are still on Union.
Of course if the merged Union with Freedom, then we'd need to change Avatar names, but I'm guessing that'd be a nightmare and I really can't see them merging the French or German serevers with an english speaking NA one that would be crazy.
Just kidding . . .
<.<
>.>
Honest.

They aren't suggesting merging the servers. What's being suggested is adding the EU servers to the list of NA servers. EU has what 4 servers? added to ours we'd then have 15 servers to choose from.

Quote:My fingers are crossed, but I've learned not to get my hopes up. It was mentioned that it's possible the devs won't let us take our wealth with us when we crossover. I think that would be a really bad idea, and I can see subs getting cancelled over it.As well as having WW and BM tied in to each other for sales. But that is a different QoL issue, but i could see with Going Rogue, people changing sides to slot out a toon for cheaper then changing back so why not just combine the inventories while they work on this character property transfer idea as well.
-
That's why I said I thought it would be the best we could hope for. After 5 years playing I've learned to be pessimistic about new features.
How many times have we seen an explosion of nerdrage when some new release didn't live up to the expectations people imagined they would be?
-
Would you prefer it if I said the devs don't have it very high on their list of priorities?
However we describe it the devs have either been dead set against it or they've had things they consider far more important to work on.
And again I think Going Rogue would be the perfect time for them to have something like this ready. I think the economy is going to go thru some big changes and this feature added to merging the red and blue markets will help keep things stable.
Positron's statement that their isn't enough inf available redside to competitively compete with blueside goes out the window if players can easily shift funds from blueside to redside via a global bank. -
Quote:You're right, and if you've read my responses here, I've never said that I thought a global bank was a bad idea. I also have said that it would be nice if the devs changed their minds, and that they may have changes plannd for "Going Rogue". If we are allowed to take our wealth with us when we cross over they might as well allow a global bank.Funny... the game isn't unplayable without power customization... and yet there's a Issue being prepared for it.
I have pointed out what I think are flaws to using the email system as a method of sending things to your own characters. I would prefer something more secure and idiot proof, because we see far too many idiots in the game.
We do have one feature that could be expanded into a decent global bank but we'd have to take into account what the devs probably won't let us put everything we have into it.
So what might the devs consider reasonable? Probably not more than what an unmodified character can carry. I'm guessing the best we could hope for would be
2 billion inf
50 salvage
10 enhancements
20 inspirations
20 recipes (Tho I must admit the pessimist in me thinks it'll be a cold day in hell before they let us move recipes around easily.) -

Quote:well if it gets generic'd on test its no big deal really. i wanted to make it so it did not violate the EULA if i took her to live so therefore those people you speak of would have nothing to look out for.
the name is part of what i like, its just a funny name cause if you say it out loud its hard to tell if its a name or speaking of a liquid crystal display. i cant deviate the name too much cause it wont be as humorous (to me) as it is now.
i mean i could easily use the name with some other costume.
thing is though i suppose i could just make the tank on live with the same look cause theres nothing wrong with a short girl in a pink dress.
as far as the horsemen it wasnt so much a question of whether or not the names where available but moreso if it would be a violation of the EULA due to the fact that they are also used in marvgel comics and rather notable characters. like i said i didnt want to use the marvel comics look just the names and make the costumes my own creations.
It's probably a good idea to stay away from anything thats been published. Some players won't say anything, Some will cut you slack if there anything that shows you aren't trying to make a ripoff, then there are those that will report any and everything that remotely looks hinky.
If you can come up with a new twist on the names (Cat mentioned ponies), maybe the Apocolypse Hamsters or some such. That you could get away with.
You might get slack from the GM's if the costume and names don't match. For example an Electric blaster that's male named L.E. Dee, but that's not a garuntee. -
Quote:ive got a couple questions about it...
ok, so ive got a completely copied toon on test at the moment. made it on test cause i didnt think it would be that big a deal there. now that ive almost gotten her to 20 on test i really really like the look and name of the toon. i know fora fact that if i where take her onto live servers i would be generic'd in name and costume quicker than i can count to 50. i cant say i dont agree with that action but i would like for that not to happen. her name is Elsie D. and she looks EXACTLY like shes does in the comics.
as far as costume goes, what can i do to not get generic'd but still keep the general idea. about the name would Elsee D or Elsie Dee be enough get by?
the other question i have had for quite some time... i have always had and interest in the characterization of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. whether it be the biblical versions or the marvel comic versions they are interesting and would make good toons. im not talking about the look im talkin about the names...
would i get into it for using the names or not?
Unfortunately for you by asking this and giving the name you might be using you have alerted the people that take pleasure in petitioning copyrights to look out for the character so they can nail it. Your global and preferred server is in your sig so they also know who and where to check.
The only thing you can do is change the name and costume.
As to the horsemen, you can only check to see if the names War, Famine, Death, and Pestilence are available. They could easily be taken.
You could try alternate spellings, creative punctuation, check a thesaurus
for similar words that mean the same thing.
You can also use the feature on the character selection screen to check if the names are available. -
Quote:Good. That means it's STILL a valid reason to quote people.I'm fairly certain you can still stealth edit on these boards... at least the last time I edited a post, I was surprised when I saw it didn't say that it had been edited. Lets find out!
This post was EDITED!

Don't we already have a lotteries where everyone wins something? I think they are called drops, merits, and tickets. Most are meh prizes but every once in a while you get one worth millions.

sorry for the off topic message but felt like mentioning this bad habbit i see on this forum.
This and also because on the old forums when changed their posts they had the ability to stealth edit. Meaning they could suppress the little message that told us the post was edited.Quote:It's a good way to make sure someone doesn't go back and change their message so you're responding to exactly what they have said and not what they rewrote after you posted.
And I don't see any rabbit/hobbit mutants walking around here...

There are also people that for whatever reason decide to delete their posts. That can lead to confusion as to what was being discussed.
Once quoted Player X can't deny that he/she never said something. -
I'm guessing from the OP's location (The OP was probably on the EU forums up until recently) that he/she may not have known about "He Who Shall Not Be Named" and "I Wrote Code For NWN So I Know Coding Is Easy" and the shenanigans they started that got this section moved.

Quote:One of the biggest drawbacks when communicating over the internet is the inability to perceive things like "tone of voice" and "body language". All too frequently it leads to misunderstandings.@Forbin: The only reason I accused her of being condescending was because she used the phrase "it's not that hard" which I guess I took a bit personally and thought she was trying to make me feel incompetent.
If such was not the case then I apologize.
We've also seen threads fall apart when some people get defensive and misinterpret disagreement as personal attacks. This happens all too frequently in the suggestion forums.
My hats off to you for not taking that path and instead opening up a dialogue so this could be defused rather than get ugly.

Waiting for someone to say CO has robes/long dresses, but I probably won't be the first to respond that they should go play CO then.
