In game Lotto

I think it would be neat if there was a lottery system in place, where we could use our own influence/infamy towards raffle tickets that would go into a pot. The pot would grow like a real lotto, based on the number of raffle tickets bought by players. Then maybe once a week, the raffle will be held & some lucky winner will get the pot.

Just like the real lottery, it seems like a giant waste of inf. Then again, if 50% of the inf used to buy tickets vanished into the ether instead of being given back out, I'd say it might have some merit... and again, it'd work even MORE like the real lottery!

Yeah, but I don't think the pot would be as big organizing such a thing vs. having it in game as an option. And organizing it has flaws. Sure, anyone can make a post and organize such a thing, collecting people's money towards a lotto- that person could also turn around and keep all the cash they attained. Or they could rig a lotto setup & make sure a friend wins and split the proceeds. Too many things could go wrong with that.

Actually, let's find out

It's not unprecedented in MMOs. I recall Everquest 2 had a lotto system where you buy tickets, and the cost of the tickets is added to the pot. It was completely random, at times the pot was small before it was reset (because someone won) and others it was an absurd amount that many people started buying tickets, adding more to the pot at the same time.

Don't we already have a lotteries where everyone wins something? I think they are called drops, merits, and tickets. Most are meh prizes but every once in a while you get one worth millions.

I like this idea.
Lotto is across all servers and hero/villain

Pot starts at 1 million, increases by 500 inf for every ticket sold and 100K for every week it goes un-won. Tickets cost 1K inf. Tickets are tranferable. Tickets remain valid for 1 month after the drawing, after which point they are deleted.
Have smaller prizes for not having every number, perhaps (ranging from 500 inf (2 numbers), to 100K inf (only one off))

NPCs would be placed at certain points (maybe vaults?), which would express what the winning numbers were, and you could have them check you for winning tickets, and redeem them if you have any.

I think the easiest system for tickets would be to have them store like Salvage. Have the salvage title 'Lotto ticket for (drawing date), numbers (numbers)' This would make an easy check to ensure ticket was for a given drawing.

Or, a percentage of the listing fees at the Market could go into a pot, being awarded to a random player(s) upon some predetermined thing.
Like one random sale each hour, or some random guy logging in, etc.

/unsigned majorly

The listing fees are there to help curb the massive inflation in the in-game economy. The pot should be entirely funded by people buying lotto tickets.

I don't think this teen rated game is going have a lottery which is basically encouraging gambling.

Or, to play your local government-run lottery.

Not like a video-poker game is going to get an M rating just for being a poker game.

I wasn't talking about a change in the rating just the fact that having the Teen rating means perhaps the game doesn't need to walk down that line.

Government run lottery is still gambling...they just get their cut up front.
