Sorry to say that character was deleted to make room for other ideas many many months ago. Long before we got power customization.

Quote:Well the generic names don't necessarily mean they were offensive, We also have a lot more people that try to make copyright/trademark ripoff characters. So it wouldn't be fair to lay the blame solely on one group. To be honest I wasn't aware of the fact (before this thread) that names of drugs were forbidden. One thing I can say though. I see far more genericed players on the US side then on the EU side. For example my Forum Handle in combination with my Avatar caused some unrest when the forums were fused. I had had the same combination for a long time on the EU forums and nobody mentioned a thing. Things seem a lot more touchy over here.
But I do agree we have more than our fair share of touchy people.
Yeah, I got a huge laugh out of that when I got told I had to change his name.Quote:And oh dear, Phart offensive? -
Quote::edit:
Social interaction? WTF? you people take me too seriously. What on earth would make you think I dont go outside? LOL.
I'm glad you got a laugh out of that PP because it was intended as a ludicrous statement.
That's why I made sure to state it was far fetched wild speculation.
It's hard to do dry straight face humor in a written context. Too many people are quick to assume the worst. (I myself fall prey to that problem.) -
Quote:Could you please quote the post where she said she cancelled her lifetime sub and got her money back? Because judging from the CO forums that doesn't seem to be the case since she's still posting there as of 2 days ago. You're telling that to Perfect Pain? Perfect Pain was in the Champions Online beta testing. She received a lifetime subscription to the game as a gift. She left CoH to play Champions. She was quite active in the Champions forums. Then she eventually got too annoyed with Champions, got a refund on the lifetime subscription, and came back to CoH.
How could you not have noticed all her posts about that??
(Okay, most of those posts were in another forum area that you probably don't visit.)
Maybe you misremembered what she actually said.

Of course there's always the possibility that she only keeps her subs active because she likes posting on the forums. It may be the only social contact she has. But thats just far fetched wild speculation. -
No. I strongly disagree. Devs should never cater to mini-maxers. There's no game balance, variety, or challange. Just the same cookie cutter characters that you get bored of playing after a few days. Then you move on to more balanced and entertaining games.

Quote:Personally? I shake my head in wonder.
In this game, we can beat up, shoot, kill, steal, judge and execute those around us and people take offense with a name like roll me another J?
These censorship rules keep amazing me.
What makes me shake my head in wonder is when people who are knowingly pushing the limits of the naming rules act surprised when someone gets offended and petitions them.
Speaking for myself, the name the OP used wouldn't have raised a blip on my radar, but I know there are people out there that might be bothered by it.
The length of time a player has the name is not relevant. This game is constantly getting new players and it's impossible to meet everyone. So It's not impossible for a person to have a name for years before someone files a petition.
Every time we choose to be cute, edgy, or funny we take the risk that someone may not like it. I had a dark/dark scrapper named Phart the Dispersing get genericed a while back. It was a silly name, no reason to get mad. I just laughed at the idea the word Phart offended somebody. -
Quote:Well, I've also noticed.. Excuse this post.. A lot of hostility in reaction to this thread and aimed towards me in particular, I've tried to be civil and really I refuse to lower myself to the level of flinging insults at people, bickering with them and berating them for having a differing opinion from my own.. Nay and rather, I respect them for having a differing opinion.
With all the bad blood, though and all the anger and hostility I'm beginning to perceive from many of the posts made recently in this thread I think I'm going to quietly bow out and allow it to die away. Perhaps I made a mistake in thinking this was an issue that could be talked over, it seems people are not ready to look at things objectively and without malice or bigotry.
Everyone, be well. I mean that.
With all due respect please quote the people you think are being hostlile to you. I read and re-read this thread and I honestly don't see it. -

Quote:When we first started playing the game in 2006, we rolled initially on Virtue. However, after the first day my wife was so tired of being hit on constantly that we moved over to protector instead. We've been back on virtue for the past few years when most everyone we knew on Protector left the game and it doesn't happen nearly as often as it did then, but it still does happen. She had one guy actually send her tells RPing how he.. ahem... took her character by force on the bar in pocket D in very explicit details. She left the area right away and put him on ignore, but that sort of thing is the kind of thing that really makes people think they don't want to be around the kind of people who ERP.
Then there ARE people who like to make sure others "overhear" their ERP. Virtual Exhibitionists or something, I don't know. It's inappropriate no matter their motive, however.
Exactly. And those individuals are the people that have given the discreet MRP/ERPers a bad reputation. Just like the foul mouth jerks gave PvP a bad name.
It's always been a small group of people that can't keep things quiet that spoil it for the majority. -

Quote:Apologies, I thought the acronyms were well known.
As for it being a Teen Rated game, yes.. But again, consenting adults should be allowed to do what they want to do in private, notice I'm specifically mentioning in private because I do agree that public ERP is just.. Not right.. It's a Teen rated game, yes and it's not appropriate when there may be younger players or RPers around but in private who is it hurting? I think perhaps even the gms and mods may agree with me on that term, if it's kept private then it's not a big deal.
I suppose I'm less prudish about it than others. See, I've spent a lot of time in another game called Second Life that has a lot of very overt and public ERP, frankly after my excursion and time there I've become more tolerant of it because I finally decided "It's going to happen anyway, I don't have to take place in it if I don't want to, the people doing it may be perfectly good people just doing it for an escape from reality or simple enjoyment and frankly if it just horribly offends me I can remove myself from the area or whatever and be done with it."
Again, my thing is that I don't understand the high and mighty attitude in relations to this. Why cause a lot of drama insulting and berating someone for something they're doing in private?
If it really was in private we wouldn't know it was happening. They would be "doing it" in private zones like SG bases, and they'd create and use private channels with settings that prevent anyone from joining without an invite.
However that's not what happens all the time. There are individuals that do their schtick where other players can easily stumble across them. There are also jerks that make innappropriate suggestions to strangers and harass them even after they get told to stop.
I had one clown that must have put one of my characters on his friends list because he'd hit on her everytime he ran across her. He didn't stop bugging me until I bought the Science Booster and turned the tables on him by hitting the costume change and turning into a 10' tall monstrous escaped prisoner and telling him, "You gots a real purty mouf, now bendover and squeal like a pig fo yo daddy, cuz you my little puppy now!"

Whaddya mean skills at "early" levels?
Ninja Run kicks butt at every frackin level.
That being said, Fortune Teller is a great buff power. Self Destruct is Meh. Tho some people will disagree. Science bod mod adds versatility to the tailor.
Costume pieces are more of a personal preference. Only ones I wasn't thrilled with was the science pack, but that's only because I'm not a fan of the mad scientist style. -
Quote:i think its too late anyways..people already leaving ( yes again) waiting for nothing iterally to come out?..why stay and play the old tired content?
there is none...posi hasnt posted in god knows how long about anything of importance.(hero con was 4 months ago..nothing since then)
oh and leave states and issue 7 out of the convo...it was one time in like 6 years..get over it...at that point there was 1000000000 people still playing and people still teaming.
id wait again for it if people were still on this game and half the servers werent dead.
You are so full of it your eyes are brown.
1. This game has never had 1 billion people playing let alone 1 billion subscribers in the entire 5 years it's been around.
2. Seasonal players that only show up for new releases is nothing unusual for any MMO. There will always be people with short attention spans that jump from game to game.
3. There will always be people that look for any excuse to whine, moan, and complain. -
Quote:Seriously? You think the zones will be empty because the player majority will be crowded around in stores updating their SOs in a faster fashion?
I believe what he is trying to say is that given the chance players will take the path of least resistance. Furthermore when players do take the easy route and it backfires on them rarely do they take responsibilty for their actions. Far too often they blame the game or the devs for something they could have avoided had they taken the time to RTFM. They can use their internet navigation skills to find the forums to whine, *****, moan, and complain but the idea of using those same skills to find, download, and read the free online manual . . .

Well that's just too much to expect of someone. -

There is a labor and resource intensive project being worked on that will be coming to us as soon as it's ready. Maybe you haven't heard of it. It's called Going Rogue.

Agreed. This would be a fine idea if it were limited to the vendors/stores. Keep IO's and the market out of it altogether.
