Quote:Guess what, trading between players without using the market has always been a legitimate part of the game. Deal with it.I heard that 2billion is the cap a player can have. That's not very smart and needs to be raised/removed. The reason being is then items on the black market can't sell for over 2 billion. Why is this bad you ask? Because it encourages back-door deals where players trade money for the item instead of using the black market/wentworths. And so therefore no money is lost in the transaction. Raising the money cap would result in more money leaving the economy.
In short, raising the cap would lower prices.

Quote:10$ to autolevel a 'toon to 50, w/influence and merits to match? if someone wants to shell out the cash to just get 1 alt to 50, sure, why not? either they'd draw up another alt and play it through, or shell out another 10$ for ANOTHER 50 or whatever it costs to transfer characters from server to server, or they leave. are any of these options that big a deal to people?
Why is this a bad idea?
Gee, for only $10 bucks I can get a ton of influence and a bunch of merits I can use to cherry pick the most expensive recipes on the market to sell for even more influence. Then I transfer the loot to another character and delete the $10 dollar scrub.
Yeah no one would ever abuse the feature like that.

Quote:Actually Power has summarized a suggestion someone else has made in another part of the forums. He brought it here because this is where it really belonged.I mean this with no malice. Really.
I'm just wondering how in the heck can you take a bad idea and just make it hilariously worse?
Power_NA, you my friend, have a gift. It may be a small gift, but it is indeed something.
He gave credit to the author and has stated he is against the idea himself. He also did a great job making sure it was easy to understand. -
Quote:With all due respect I find the idea unacceptable regardless of level.Westly seems to have missed the 2 IMO's in there, and nowhere did i say that i couldnt play a toon well without it - it just for me, flows better when i have it. Nice strawman tho. I hate responding to a trollish post - usually i dont have a prob with his, but my question remains.
If ppl were able to pay to get to 14, (6 for long term vets) for travel power lvl, or what have you - would that be reasonable to you all? -
Quote:Great job on making a coherent suggestion. This idea is from BubblegumBomb I am just moving it here and to tell you guys how this will work without hurting our baby (referring to the game)
1. Make it so they need 2 level 50s heroes and villians that way you need to work for it.
2. Make them pay $10-$20 dollars, I know that is greedy, but so many poeple will do it they will get more money, all you need is money, that what love is : P
3. Make it a Vet Reward, we must play 6 years!
Trust me I HATE this idea, but if they have to work for it then it is ok. I hate playing with inexperienced and clueless players, I wish they would go in the dang training room that what it is there for lol.
Now here's one reason why auto-leveling is a bad idea. I'm sure you have seen the posts made by people claiming the game is dead because they can't see anyone in the zones. This is because the game is heavily instanced (people are inside missions).
So if the devs were to add auto leveling the low level zones would lose everyone that chose to use it, which would make those zones appear even emptier. If it was restricted to a vet reward then zones like Atlas Park would lose the games most experienced players.
The only palatable compromise I've seen suggested in another thread was a vet reward that allowed the creation of 1 single character per account that could be auto-leveled.
This isn't taking into consideration all the extras people would start demanding and abusing.
People will want free inf and merits to buy enhancements and there will be people which will not think twice about paying $10-20 bucks so they can strip the character of loot and use it on another character. It's basically legalizing RMT which they can't get banned for.
But again great job on making an understandable post Power.

Quote:And the people that like to play that way aren't going to be loyal customers. They get bored quickly and move on to other games. I want the devs to cater to their loyal customers. It's the loyal customers that pay the bills here, not the flash in the pans.Other people enjoy coming in at the top, and will abuse the game mechanics trying to get there.
We already experienced how the lookieloos react when they were able to get to level 50 in a day when the AE came out. They quickly got bored, started complaining and quit. By September they were gone. -
You seem to be handling the disagreement well. Just make sure not to take any negativity from the people that will disagree personally. This topic could get very ugly because while the idea seems to make sense it actually can be very harmful, and we have a lot of people who are passionate about the welfare of the game.

Quote:Oh you're referring to the microchip the CIA implanted in my characters skull after they recruited him into the blackest of black op programs. The same program that was hijacked by an unscrupulous traitor who then proceeded to use the brainwashed sleeper agents in that program to unwittingly do his evil bidding. And when GR goes live my character will finally be able to break that conditioning, return to Paragon City and bring that traitor to justice.Well... When paper missions tell you that the voices in your head order you to smash, when practically every missions is you selling yourself out for money that's only spoken of but never seen, and when half the time you buckle under pressure because someone threatened you... I'd say the game succeeds a lot more often than you give it credit for.

Quote:hi all, ive been noticing alot of lag when i edit my base ( add an item mainly ). the rest of the game is fine, no lag at all on max settings but, even with me lowering graphics to minimum while editing the base, i get lag. ill pick an item i want to place down and when i click / drag it, the game freezes for bout 5 seconds or more, then the items appears where i want it. its frustrating because it is making my editing take a really long time. any ideas?
comp specs:
windows home edition
intel core2 duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33ghz
2.33 ghz, 2gb or ram
nvidia Geforce 8600 GT
p.s: my comp ONLY freezes up when editing the base, nothing else at all in game or out.

I agree with FW on this. I bought a friend a 60 day card for xmas to rekindle his interest for GR. I used Amazon and paid extra for the fast shipping.

Quote:This so going the way of the thread where someone complained about the monthly fee for CoH. With the $900 a month he was spending on XBox/PS#/pr0n/movies/his brother 'the maid', he felt that $15 a month for a 5yo game was unacceptable. -.-
I remember disputing that guys lame arguments.

Quote:I'm assuming by team sweep you mean everyone dies which is patently false. The only team wipes I've seen were when the players went hairing off in all directions instead of sticking together in one group and concentrating their firepower. If you're going down without a def or troller who can heal, then you're asking for a team sweep. Also a good idea to have at least two melee people if you're doing a group of 8.
It's true that all powersets are basically equal in terms of damage and hitpoints, but you still need a balance of general power types. Scrapper=Tank, Def=Troller, and Blasters make things go faster (because they have more attack powers at low levels).
All it takes for a successful sewer team is teamwork not a balance of archetypes. Anyone that claims otherwise has no idea what he or she is talking about. I've lost count of the number of times I've done sewer runs on concept teams. All dark/dark scrappers or all blasters for example and we mowed thru everything without a single player death we worked our way thru the sewers starting in Atlas Park and came out in Boomtown. -
Quote:So mostly after the 'meow times'?
I guess our anecdotal evidence differs. Which is why the plural of anecdote is not fact.
I also assume you're talking about the comments like 'need a tank to herd' unless the sewer selection thing is a lot more common that I've ever seen. What servers are people seeing this on?
The whole 'lets herd' thing I've only seen from older game time vets.
Certainly though complaints about people broadcasting for 'healers' etc are a lot longer than 6 months old.
I've seen it a lot on sub 50 missions, which pretty clearly rules it out from being from AEbabies PL'd to 50.
As said above, dumb players are dumb players. No need to single out one group for scorn when dumbness afflicts so many
I'll be honest and admit that I have no idea when the actual activation date was for those players accounts. I didn't ask. For all I know the accounts could have been activated in 2004 and lay dormant until this past weekend.
I'll also admit that it's only my opinion that most vets know an AP sewer run doesn't require a perfect team.
And I was on Virtue when I saw the broadcasts and checked badges.
Oh one more thing, I didn't scorn them. I said nothing to them in game and only voiced my opinion here away from the game. I let them to play the game the way they wanted. -

Quote:Nicely said.Considering players can go from level 1-50 in a day, having an AT that unlocks at 50 means sweet FA.
Having a level 50 on your account means jack to me these days.
The only thing I look at with respect and pride, are those players, who regardless of their level, are actually FUN to play with, and, play their characters with great skill. That is something to be proud of.
-
Or it might have something to do with the fact that the devs have said for years that requiring players to get a character to level 50 was a bad idea they never should have implemented. The only reason they made the same requirements for VEATS was balance. Now the have decided to correct their error. They may have chosen level 20 for the Praetorian stuff because they intended to lower the level requirements on Epics the whole time.

I use two accounts to invite characters into my solo SG's. So far I haven't ripped myself off.

Quote:At least you had the opportunity to cough/sneeze on the food of the A-holes that ticked you off before you delivered their meals.Yeah...like it's the way it was always my fauly the bloody staff taking the orders AND the kitchen staff always managed to get things wrong on busy weekends when I worked at the pub. And how the lack of communication was clearly the fauly of the poor schmuck who was trying to get about ten damn tables taken out at once.
There were some people in that job who were very lucky not to be wearing the meals they paid for, nevermind them being a tad late when we were jam packed ¬¬
NEVER PISS OFF THE FOOD SERVICE PEOPLE!!!
Say please and thank you and always leave a nice tip. Yoy may not remember them the next time you eat there, but they will remember you. -
I went and started checking the characters out when they make those comments just to see if you were right and unless the players started new accounts they weren't long time vets. I checked about half a dozen and none of them had accounts that were active 6 months and most weren't active 3 months.

Quote:As others have said it's basically up to personal choice. I personally waited a year before getting rid of the 16,000 odd pieces of base salvage/components I inherited. Their characters are still on the roster even tho they haven't logged on in 314-524 days.Quick question, is there an un-written rule about salvage? I recently started playing an old character that was in a super group since the group started. When I logged in, I was promoted to the uber leader and all the other toons had not been logged in for about 4 months. the base is pretty complete but the salvage bins are over full with base salvage. one of the bins has 650+ items and the person that placed a large amount of them has not logged in in a couple of years. Would it be in bad form for me to convert all of the base salvage to rare & just fill the racks with that, or is there still a purpose for base salvage?

Ive been sitting on this article for a while now, and it seems like the best time as ever to put it forward. NCsoft is currently investigating heavy allegations of massive security holes in the master account system. As Ive reported before, the number of stolen Guild Wars and Aion accounts has gone up dramatically in the past few months, which NC originally pointed towards a compromised fansite as the source of the theft.
Definitely the most serious, and frightening, of the allegations posted on Guild Wars Guru was that it doesnt take any skill to hack an NCsoft master account. In fact, according to users, all it takes is spamming log in/log out, and eventually (through the process of happenstance and timing) you may find yourself logged into someone elses account, able to change passwords, jot down personal details, and clean out accounts without ever being detected.
More after the break
Both ArenaNet and NCsoft deny any allegations of this exploit, but security measures being put into place are raising eyebrows as to the validity of this: Recently changes have been made to the NCsoft master account page with regards to changing passwords, among other things, that were in direct response to NCsoft escalating the issue.
Even more frightening is the idea that this is not a new security issue. When I said that Id been sitting on this article for a while now, I mean since MMO Fallout was still in conception. An important thing to remember is that the number of accounts being stolen through this method may be lower than originally thought: ArenaNet has stated that less than half of the accounts stolen were linked to an NCsoft master account.
1. Wrong Account Bug. Sometimes simply logging into the NCSoft site takes you to someone elses account instead, with FULL CONTROL over that account. An attacker need only use a bot to log into their own account over and over until the bug occurs, then steal the account the bug gives them.Quote:Update from NCsoft: NCsoft has confirmed that these exploits exist do/did not exist.]List of Known Vulnerabilities with the NCSoft Site:
Quote:LOGGING INTO YOUR OWN PLAYNC MASTER ACCOUNT CAN RANDOMLY LOG YOU INTO ANOTHER PLAYER'S ACCOUNT. YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER THEIR ACCOUNT FROM THIS POINT. YOU CAN CHANGE THEIR PASSWORDS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT ONE CAN EDIT FROM THE PLAYNC MASTER ACCOUNT CONTROLS. -
Quote:This is gonna sound like a rant, and it is a little bit - but I'm a little confused about something. When and why did low-level sewer team runs start becoming selective?
First noticed this shortly after Mission Architect was introduced (and non-MA teams could hardly be found). I had rolled up a new controller, hit Atlas, and saw a "Sewer Team LFM" message. Sent a /tell to the team leader. Got no response, but seconds later the team leader broacast "Sewer Team LFM - no trollers or defs". I almost replied, "But, but, I has Sands of Mu and Blackwand Staff" - but then realized I'd be begging for a sewers team, which just seemed wrong...
Took a break from the game, and came back this weekend. First sewer team message I saw was "Sewer Team LFM - since its 2x XP weekend, all ATs are welcome", but I still see broadcasts for "blasters only" or "tanks and blasters."
Maybe I'm wearing rose-colored glasses, but I always thought ATs were pretty much irrelevant on low-level sewer runs. Get a team of 8 and steamroll until you stop getting XP. What happened? Why are blasters and tanks seemingly favored? Or is it just my imagination?
I saw some twit on Virtue trying to form an AP sewer team yesterday that said "No Blasters or Scrappers".
I believe that these totally clueless individuals are AE babies that returned for the 2xp weekend then discovered they couldn't get 2xp in the AE. Having no idea how to actually play the game they try to form their idea of the perfect team.
