Quote:Doesn't change the fact that the devs have stickied several thread in the base forums for these types of suggestions. And the reason they are stickied there is because that is where the devs working on bases go to see what people want in regards to bases, secret lairs, personal apartments, or whatever other name you want to use to call them.Yes.
BTW, this IS the suggestion section and personal lairs, even if you choose to call them personal bases IS a suggestion.
He gets what he puts out. He was politely invited to join the discussions on this topic in the base forums and he chose to speak disparaging about them instead. He has no one to blame but himself for the response he has gotten in return.Quote:No wonder the OP has a low opinion of the forums.
Oh please tell me exactly what reasons am I thinking?Quote:I do agree that this would be a major undertaking but not for the reasons you may think. -
If the weapon is a FREE Electron Laser System, why does it cost $163 million dollars?
I think the taxpayers are getting screwed again.

Quote:Time and resources have always been the major reason it's taken us years to get things we asked for.I would never assume what someone else knows or doesn't know. Time and work have never been insurmountable obstacles to any of the other improvements made in game.
5 years to get weapon and power customization.
Almost 3 years to get side swapping.
Almost 3 years to get the CoP fixed.
4 years and PvP and base raids still doesn't work right.
6 years to get items sent by email.
The devs don't have an unlimited budget or manpower to throw around.
Welcome to the forums.Quote:I was hoping for more constructive criticism or suggestions.
Yes the base building community has been lobbying for this for years. They are the only ones interested in it. And no one has told you that you shouldn't re-introduce the idea. Quite the opposite. It was suggested that you post it up in the forum where everyone who is interested in it tend to hash out suggestions like this one.Quote:If this is something that players have wanted for years, maybe it's time to re-introduce the idea. My initial search didn't produce any recent posts on the subject.
But oh that's right you have a low opinion of the base forums.
And the funny is that you say you want to avoid "base building" and yet you are suggesting the devs add an entirely new base building feature to the game in addition to the current system.Quote:I am aware of the deep dark hole that is the base building forum. Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm pretty sure that's where posts go to die. I really want to avoid this having anything to do with base building and the base system
Yes a Secret Lair/residence/apartment is a base, and would still be a part of base building. What it boils down to is that your suggesting the devs give us the ability to have a personal base in addition to joining a regular SG base. -
Quote:Well the devs in charge of bases rarely come down here, while they do respond more frequently in the base section. Thanks for the replies.
In response-Forbin, I am aware of the deep dark hole that is the base building forum. Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm pretty sure that's where posts go to die. I really want to avoid this having anything to do with base building and the base system. That's why I posted in the "suggestions" instead "base building".
Standard Code Rant applies. You really have no idea how much time and work is entailed in the project you are suggesting.Quote:I don't think it's enough new content for expansion prices. But I'd pay maybe @ $15.00 U.S. for a beefy booster

Quote:Too cheap.i like the idea of rechargeable temp powers as inf sinks.
i also like the idea of being able to unslot individual enhancements by paying a fee. i wouldn't do it as a straight cost per level. Partially because some of the most valuable IOs of a given type are actually the lowest level available. Maybe make the fee ((character level^2)*500)+(enhancement level*2,000) or something similar.
((Character Level+Enhancement Level)*1,000,000). -
-
That really sucks and should be addressed. I don't mean to be harsh on the devs but I can't think of anything dumber than not letting people check a names availability until after they make a character on a given server.
-
As long as no specific names are mentioned the OP is okay, and if anyone wants to make some recommendations they can simply send him a PM.
-
No you're not the only ones that have experienced them, but most players here are long time vets and understand that it isn't unusual for these types of things to crop up in any MMO. We do our part and report them whenever we find them so the devs can get them fixed.

Quote:Son, you get a lot more meat from ol' Porky than that little bit you want to use in a cheese and ham omelette.Which I hope it doesn't. As said in the other thread; there's storage issues to consider. But to lean on that metaphor; everyone seems to want a cheese and ham omelette and that means slaughtering Porky, the lovable pig who's been part of the family for years. I don't want Porky slaughtered for what might be. I'd rather have the plain omelette (not the complete descruction but the interface change).
Ground Pork
Sausage
Hocks
Butt Steaks
Shoulder Roasts
Smoked Daisy
Loin Roast
Pork Chops,
Loin Rib Chops
Boneless Loin
Country-style Ribs
Canadian-style Bacon
Fresh Ham
Smoked Ham
Ham Steaks
Bacon
Jowl Bacon
Spare Ribs
and Pork Belly
So if sacrificing our current bases gets us so much more in return then I have no problem taking Porky to the butcher and getting him chopped up for food. -
Quote:I have thought for a long time that one of the obvious things missing from this MMORPG is personal housing for our characters. So, I did a rough outline for a Secret Lair Booster Pack. I want to stay as far away from the base program as possible, so I don't think that personal space should include any of the ammenities found in an SG base. I do think that alot of this design could use artwork and systems already present in the game.
Take a look:

Secret Lair –

Maybe you have another idea to make this better. Maybe I got something wrong and you know a better way. Either way - lets talk about it.
We've been asking for this stuff (Secret Lairs, personal apartments) for years up in the base forums. Please feel free to join the base community discussions.

On a side note this will never be a "booster" The amount of work involved would take at least an entire issue, and if they did decide to sell it rather than give it to us for free, you'd be looking at prices in the "expansion" range. At least $25-$30. -

You don't have to have a character on a server to check if a name is available. You can just click on the Check Name button on the character select screen and it will tell you if a name is available before you begin creating a character on a given server.

Power Slide has always been available for purchase. The only way you can get Power Slide is by purchasing it. You get it when you buy the City of Heroes Collecters DVD Edition. Just because you are too lazy to look for copies or too cheap to buy it doesn't mean it isn't for sale.

I thought there was an inherent elasticity in his webs that helped yank/pull him forward.

Quote:I've given this a lot of thought and even tho I'd hate to lose everything I put into the bases I currently have, a completely new system would probably be the best way to go.I think Zube was referring to the original designer/programmer.
And I suspect there is the ultimate kernel of the base conundrum... nobody has a handle on the code anymore. Folks like Sunstorm tried dipping their toes in it, and unfortunately the tangle got worse. Now, nobody wants to touch it with a ten foot pole.
I still think, however, that it's a job in need of doin'.
I love how folks are still willing to put ideas out there for consideration.
I only hope that some Dev "out there" is paying attention to the forward thinking that this community has exhibited.
Bases have evolved (devolved?) from their original incarnation. The question now should be; do we continue to ask for band-aids (new shineys!), or do we press for a more advanced evolution and development of this feature?
Do we want them to continue building on the existing (broken) code?
Or, do we want a whole new system?
Would WE, as a community, be willing to start from scratch?

Quote:Bingo. The SSD Executor was designed by a man while the Death Star was obviously designed by a woman. Just think about it. Only a woman would make guys fly down a long trench to get to the GG spot that makes the ship go boom. But the design of the Death Star is very yonic. If it were designed by a male, it would have had a huge gun barrel sticking out of its side.

Right now I wish that was all I had to deal with. I'm still saving up to replace the video card that died on me last month. Can't play any games right now.

I'm no fan of Craig as Bond but IMO he was a helluva lot better than Timothy Dalton.
