The Cape 1/17/11
At least it's a daughter he hadn't seen in a long while. Otherwise last weeks fetch the poison chicken drive by would have blown her cover.
I like how they fit in Ms Glau's ballet 1337 skillz into the episode. I think she now likes Max and his crew. Evil magician was a nice change in villain. All the bad guys shouldn't be tied to Chess.

Yeah this episode was MUCH better than the first. It just bugs the crap out of me this dude keeps taking his damn hood off in the middle of a fight. That and how whenever he goes and talks to the kid he gets all choked up. I realize it's an emotional moment for him and all, but he needs to keep his superhero face on.
Freedom
Blueside: Knight'Hawk, lvl 50, Scrapper
Yellowside: Dark'Falcon (Loyalist), lvl 20, Blaster

The series is ok but one thing does bug me about it. It was made very clear that these heroes and villains have no super powers. Some have nifty gadgets. Some have maximized human potential due to genetics and training. But none have mutant or mystical or otherwise superhuman powers.
But by the third episode the cape is already able to constrict like a snake, and rip a closed door off a car.
It's nit picking but I hate it when a series about heroes doesn't stick to a continuity. It s something that wouldn't be allowed (or would be held to a minimum) in any other genre of show. House isn't suddenly going to start doing parkour and Castle isn't suddenly going to start using a gun with bullets that can curve around corners. But those kind of changes without regard to continuity or common sense are considered standard for superhero shows.
It's no wonder they aren't taken seriously and can't hold an audience.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
I like the fact that it's unsure if the cape has mystical origins or not. It expands the possibilities beyond natural/science/tech based heroes and villains.

For some reason they didn't show the ep in the Atlanta market. From 8-10 we got The Bachelor instead, yech. But where WSB-TV fails, BitTorrent prevails.
Still, I've read a report saying the ratings tanked and I'm wondering how much of that was because some markets didn't carry the episode. I'm liking the show and I'd hate to see it get sabotaged by the affiliates.
Anybody know the story?
The Bachelor is ABC, The Cape is on NBC. WSB-TV is an ABC affiliate so no surprise about The Bachelor. NBC is on 11 Alive, WXIA.

In any case, even if the daughter thing is cliche I like that they didn't insult the audience's intelligence by spelling it out. Drop a mention at the top of the show, give it a visual at the end.
Unfortunately, a show with that kind of subtlety is probably doomed.
I thought this was a pretty solid episode. I like how they wove the previous user of the cape into the story. Pacing seemed fine to me, and next week's episode looks like a good one as well.
Whoever called the bit about Orwell being the daughter of the Big Bad Guy wins a cookie.
