Quote:As a direct result of the seamless world WoW also have dozens if not scores of servers, simply because the server can not handle the load of all the players in a seamless world.References to the War Walls coming down were sly references to the upcoming Rikti Invasions. Even with the force field section down (the walls themselves don't come down), you can't go to other zones, for there are no other zones past the walls -- just a few building shells to give the impression there is.
In a game where SuperSpeed is limited to 92 mph for game engine reasons, you will never see a seamless city without an improvement in the servers by an order of magnitude... so, that's at least a few years away, and more likely for a CoH2 if it ever is developed. There's just too much geometry to keep track of and to try to load in the background while you're moving around. Try visiting and SuperSpeeding around all the zones and watch your memory usage go from .8 GB to 1.8 GB.
WoW does it because of the simple geometry, textures, and slow movement. CoH can't handle it... for now. And it was never promised.
Imagine Freedom with its legions of active characters and then imagine it all bogged down even further because there were no zones. Then add Double XP weekend...
I'd rather have my zones -
I for one haven't had any problems that wasn't related to either my own equipment or my ISP for ages.
Once again, people, please consider that it may be your equipment, ISP, or somewhere inbetween that is the cause of the problem, instead of immediately assuming it is the servers.
I am not saying the servers don't have problems, but when only SOME people reports problems, then it is most likely NOT the servers, but somewhere along the line.
Just saying... -
The ability to go in and edit posts that are several months old is high on the list of features I love.
I have no personal use for it, as such, but people who have made guides where the formatting where screwed up by the move now has a chance to make them look nice again, WITHOUT having to bother the mods and admins.
Most wanted feature: More skins!
Edit: Doh! I see now that synthozoic beat me to it.
Quote:That one caught my eyes at once too.But they're not properly antialiased. Like if you look at them in the message editor they look great against a light background but on the dark background of the forums they look awful. They need to use PNG images with alpha channel support so they won't have jaggy edges no matter what the background. Not to be snarky but this is something their graphic designers should've caught in the first 10 minutes of skinning the new forums. It's really web design 101. -
Operating System: Windows XP
Browser: Firefox 3.0.4
Forum: Every one
Bug Description: Posts where there were special characters like <, &, > etc. have had these characters converted to their html "safe" values. I.e. <, &, > etc.
This makes for a poor reading experience, and requires that one knows what the mysterious codes actually means
I realize though, that this particular problem may be neigh unsolvable.

You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?
-
Yay! It has been sorely missed
-
It doesn't say anything about the gfx card, and I'm too lazy to look it up. But I would expect the graphics settings to be set to lowest, for it to be able to run the game. But hey, I expect you'll grow tired of the small screen before the graphics quality.
But for Wentworth/Blackmarket etc. I wouldn't be surprised if it was adequate. -
Well, I for one have a heck of a lot of fun with my Necro/Poison MM.
Just saying... -
One costume change emote I am really missing is the arm keypad, like the one robotics masterminds are using when summoning henchmen.
It would be perfect for a number of technology based costumes. -

We had to make one new animation for Broadsword Stalkers, but other than that they were able to directly port everything over or at least pull powers and visuals from existing powersets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Could you perhaps tell us what the AS animation for BS is?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure. There's a 2 second windup, and then you stab your victim with your sword.

Gotta love this guy. Completely helpful and accurate description and at the same time utterly useless -

So Desdemona is basically Bettie Page with straight hair? I can get behind that.

Who wouldn't, with an as.... a back like that? -

Greetings,
A new Canon Fodder post is now up with some additional info on Blue Steel for those that were *not* amused last week.
Happy holiday weekend to everyone!

For Bruce Wayne/Batman the normal man is the true nature and the hero is the affectation while for Clark Kent/Superman the normal man is the act and the hero persona is his true self.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've always seen it as just the opposite. At least, that's how the DCAU characterizes them, so that's good enough for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd even go s far and say there is NO normal man with Batman. There is only Batman and the disguises Batman wears. Bruce Wayne is one of these. If needed, Batman can shed the Bruce Wayne character, but he can't stop being Batman. I think there was a story arc where Bruce Wayne was wanted, so Batman shed the Bruce Wayne disguise until he could clear its name.
Clark Kent is an idealist raised in the country. He's an honest and helpful man. Who, by the way, is from the plant Krypton and can benchpress continents. But he's still an honest and helpful man. With that kind of power, he became Superman. What he thinks a true hero should be. Superman is an idealistic boyscout, because that's how Clark sees the ideal hero, and he has the power to act on that ideal. If he needed to, Clark could stop being Superman and settle down quietly. But as long as Superman is needed, he'll keep up the act.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly the way I see them too. Although you left out the fact that Superman/Clark Kent is about as exciting as watching paint dry... -

ummm.. I noted a similar typo some time ago...
You do mean PDT/EDT, right?
(I know, it's nit-picky, but not all places observe Daylight Savings...)

This has bothered me for years.

The entire concept of DST is a bother. Get rid of the damn thing, and set the clock 1/2 hour back. -
Just read chapter 43, nicely done, although not quite as long as some other chapters.
-
Bit of both, I'd say. Really depends on how important the actual fight is, I guess. No one is questioning the importance of the outcome of the battle though
I, for one, wouldn't need every single move and attack described in detail, but a fairly specific description of the battle would be nice. However, if the fight itself is unimportant to the grand scheme, then gloss it over, by all means. -
Right, so now I have finally managed to chew my way through the story so far, and then this thread.
Couple of items:
1. Love the story!
2. How many of the characters from Star Patrol are actual characters in game?
3. Love the story!
4. Is Sorina Tavarisch your character in game, or does she only existing in this story?
5. Did I mention I love the story?
Of all the Freedom Phalanx members, I think Positron is my favorite, maybe because he is in essence just a nerd like the rest of us. Only difference is, he's got a kick-[censored] power armor. Not unlike Tony Stark.
So, when is chapter 43 coming? -
Well, Elenor Seahawk certainly approves of the Witch Lace.
Elenor Seahawk
If I had anything to say, Jay has certainly earned a raise! -
I wouldn't mind account transfers, but I also completely understand if they are never implemented.

I'm glad they spent all that time on the holiday stuff like the zombie invasion.....which reminds me....oh thats right, I have yet to see a zombie invasion......
/sarcasm off
[/ QUOTE ]The first weekend of the Halloween event had the zombie timers bugged, but they're fixed now, and about as frequent as rikti invasions.
Also, Holiday Event =/= Halloween Event.

To be truthful, I find the new design so disturbing that I doubt I will ever be going to the main website ever again.
I am seriously contemplating embedding the new server status feed into a small web application on my own website. Because that is all I will be needing from the site.
I hate to say it, but there is simply way too much graphics on that page for it to be remotely useful.
There is entirely too much space wasted on graphics, instead of text.
And no flashing images PLEASE. -
To tell the truth, I think the new design is significantly worse than the old one.
The functionality is great, but the visual design is aweful. There is entirely too much graphics for me to be able to focus properly on the text I am trying to read.
Sorry to say it, but in my opinion the new website is two thumbs down. -
I know this is for farming the recipes, but I seriously don't understander how you can stand doing the same set of missions over and over and over for 3 months??
I would be bored out of my mind in no time.
Of course, that may be the reason I am no where near IO'ed out on anything but common IOs
