Right, the message is a red herring, it's the problem described above. Instead of saying "hey buddy, you have the wrong patch", it gives you that message. So you'll have to get the good patch then bypass or run:
"CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144

I did it for the same reason.

And remember folks, only use this to bypass. When there's a new patch, you need to run CohUpdater (the original icon). -
Make sure it's CityofHeroes.exe and not CohUpdater.exe.

Downloading the proper patch
Force the game to download it from the proper patch server:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144
Please note: use CohUpdater.exe here.

Bypassing the patch server once you have the right patch
Once the game is patched, you can bypass the updater altogether (this is not required if you use the -ps above):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
Please note: Use CityofHeroes.exe here.

I'm pretty sure the issue is that there are different versions of the patch released on Saturday on the login servers. So you could hit the good server one time, then hit the bad server the other time.
You can use the bypass icon as long as you're patched. When a patch comes out, use the normal icon.
This issue should be fixed once they deploy the right patch released on Saturday to ALL of their patch servers.
Pretty poor form by them yes, but it'll probably have to wait till Monday to resolve it.
Once the issue is fixed and they put the patch on all their patch servers, go back to using the normal icon and remove any -ps switches or -project switches above. -

3 strats that work for me:
1) Keep him held, kill whatever clones he manages to get out and continue holding him. Beat him down at your leisure.
2) Go in with a full tray of reds. Pop 4 at a time, kill clones as he calls them out, go back to popping reds. You shouldn't need more than 8 reds unless you're slow.
It's not difficult it just requires a little thinking outside the box.
3) Team up with a dom or controller and have them just keep him held. Kill the clones then defeat him.
Unless you're an FF controller you should be able to solo him. -
I think you can run screenshotui 1 or 0 to turn it on and off.
If you don't normally defrag you can try doing that. It has helped me out a time or two in the past. -

So any AT that has issues should have to go and buy / gather temp powers because their AT sucks so bad they can't solo a mission meant to be soloable by everyone. Yeah that'll make you feel like an incarnate.

This isn't the first time Infernus Hades has done this and it won't be the last. If I recall correctly he had gotten all hot and bothered about people asking for hijackthis and cohhelper, etc because it implied he was an idiot and he knew how to read a hijackthis report.
Apparently he doesn't know how to read an email. -

If you have an ATI card and your driver version is either 10.10 or 10.11, remove them and install 10.9.
This type of issue is similar to the contact loading/freezing issue. If it freezes when it's open it may continue to freeze on subsequent logins.

I just got 10.9 installed and was finally able to login tin a toon that was frozen with the contact list already open.
So far so good! -
