Solution: For those having trouble connecting / downloading multiple patches

Mmmmm, I could play on Friday night and Saturday but right now it's Sunday night and when I started cov, the updater downloaded a patch. After that patch, I could log in but as soon as I chose a Server, it says "No Server Response" and told me to try again.
I see both Freedom and Virtue have 3 red dots so I am in the minority here? It must be the new patch I just downloaded. blah...
I've tried that shortcut "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
but the problem isn't starting the game. The problem is CHOOSING a server which it fails to connect. Oh well, I guess I'll go to bed.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Right, the message is a red herring, it's the problem described above. Instead of saying "hey buddy, you have the wrong patch", it gives you that message. So you'll have to get the good patch then bypass or run:
"CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144

I made a shortcut to CityofHeroes.exe, and gave it the -ps 64.25.34.144 tag so it looks like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I edited it. For -project coh, use cityofheroes.exe. For the -ps crap which I don't use, use cohupdater.exe.
Yay -_- now it wants to download the whole game again. Huzzah. Guess I'll play something else till this gets resolved. Hello Civ 5 again.

Another thing that would help there is if they fix the ambiguity behind the login message / failure. It no longer says "your game version doesn't match".
It's misleading and confusing.

Downloading the proper patch
Force the game to download it from the proper patch server:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144
Please note: use CohUpdater.exe here.

Bypassing the patch server once you have the right patch
Once the game is patched, you can bypass the updater altogether (this is not required if you use the -ps above):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh

I'm pretty sure the issue is that there are different versions of the patch released on Saturday on the login servers. So you could hit the good server one time, then hit the bad server the other time.
You can use the bypass icon as long as you're patched. When a patch comes out, use the normal icon.
This issue should be fixed once they deploy the right patch released on Saturday to ALL of their patch servers.
Pretty poor form by them yes, but it'll probably have to wait till Monday to resolve it.
Once the issue is fixed and they put the patch on all their patch servers, go back to using the normal icon and remove any -ps switches or -project switches above.
