"No Response from this server"/Constant patching possible fix
LOL, sorry I didn't see this post
DAMMIT!
And it's CityofHeroes.exe -project coh, I don't think CohUpdater -projectcoh will work
Well, the reason I put it up there was because the information is buried in several different threads, AND people obviously aren't bothering to read the entire thread before posting yet another "how do I fix this?" question. So putting the fix in a new thread with a new title, and the troubleshooting information up front, should help.
I've got this "-project coh" on mine and i'm still getting the multiple patches.
Make sure it's CityofHeroes.exe and not CohUpdater.exe.

I did it for the same reason.
EDIT: Your \ / are going in the wrong direction. Not sure if that matters though.
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityofHeroes.exe" -project coh
And remember folks, only use this to bypass. When there's a new patch, you need to run CohUpdater (the original icon).
Just want to say this doesn't fix the problem.
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityofHeroes.exe" -project coh
I had no problem playing on Saturday night until just now. I started the game and the updater downloaded a new patch.
The shortcut only allows me to start the game which I can. The problem is when I choose a server (after logging in), it says No Response from this server.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Right, you need to have the proper patch downloaded first, then you can use -project coh.
So the -ps one wont let me run the game, the -project coh will run the game, allow me to select server and toon but will crash saying " city of heroes has encounters a problem and needs to close" any other options for a fix?
This will work till you shut your system down.
1) Make sure everything CoH is closed. The updater, the game, close it. 2) Open your CoH folder. Default location is C:/Program Files/ but will be wherever you put it when installing the game. 3) Delete the file coh.checksum 4) Press the Windows key and R at the same time. This will open your Run window. 5) Type "cmd" without quotes and press enter. This will open a command prompt, a black window with white text. 6) Type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes. Do not forget the space in the middle. Press enter. 7) Launch City of Heroes. The updater should say 'Checksumming' for a couple minutes, then should verify files. Once it does this, proceed. |
That's a different issue entirely, and isn't something I can address.
StarCloud, I think for the -ps switch it should be:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144
Yes/no?
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Yeah I know. Nice heading by the way in the other threads. I stole it and colored it yellow.
Hopefully folks start to see the proper workarounds for this. It's really not that difficult but I guess if you're frustrated or have a hot head, it'll make it more difficult to see the light.
I just encounted this problem after loosing connection from game but the "fix" doesn't work it just tells me "can not run this program directly must run updater" when I add the extra line suggested so I removed it and went back to the normal updater but now even though I removed the "fix" it's still giving me that error when I try to open the updater. So the "fix" just made it worse.
This is the fix:

I think the problem people are running into is for the -ps switch you need to run CohUpdater.exe and not CityofHeroes.exe.
Select the City of Heroes shortcut you use to enter the game. Make a copy and place it on the Desktop. Right click and select "Properties".
In the "Run" field, at the end of the link, add the following:
-ps 64.25.34.144
This forces the game to use a patch server that is known to have the current, good patch.
It should look something like
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -ps 64.25.34.144
when you're done.
If there are any other commands after "...cohupdater", leave them in place and simply append the above.
