I personally like Electical Blasts.I had a Storm/Elec Defender, im remaking it to a **/Elec.I just didnt enjoy the Storm Primary.Elec is even good on Defenders for Farming as well.

    100% agree with you.

    hooyah!
  3. As for a Dark/Dark Defender being bad in PvP?not really, I have been surprisingly running into stubbern players who think they can take me down, and they wont run.Brutes, Corrs, ect.Anything but a Dom or a Stalker...that is of coarse if I can hit the Dom first, then he is dog meat.

Well, if im not Mistaken, taking Fly might assist with the Stalker Range by those players who I wont be able to see.If anything, they would have to Impale me or do a leaping hit to nail me, and when they do, its a good possibility that itll be a BAD day for them....unless of coarse that Stalker Flys...which isnt too uncommon these days.

Ill be rocking more then justa Dev blaster either way, so I guess i have to be hypocritical and buy PvP IOs for them to perform well enough to where im not bait.

Oddly enough iv done that before.Iv had a MA/Ninja Stalker before.I ended up deleting it because i could kill people too easy with it.

Im a glutton for punishment, but I might make another Stalker again, provided I can find a way to Solo a Tanker with it.

Because iv had to break down and start farming to buy PvP IOs for a few toons is why.

Im a bit of a hypocrit in that respect, but for farming, I dont need the IOs.

I have a bit of a vandetta agenst IOd Stalkers and IOd Dom's killing me over and over the second I step away from the Hospital in all PvP zones, then telling me to learn how to pvp...how do I do that when in 2-4 shots and im dead before I can react?

So realistically, im doing it for PvP.

Im tired of being the Red Headed Step Child in that department.

    PvE?Easy Suase!PvP!BLARG!

However, over time the Brute will out pace them in damage, too.

Brutes can tank with a mild amount of support or a good build, too. A Scrapper needs some serious support or a really good build.

So turn that frown upside down. The Scrappers can frown instead.
Most Scrapper players just dont play common sense builds.2 builds that i have are common sense...and rather strong.Claws/Fire for Ranged Chaos, and a Spines/Invln for Tanking.

This is what I miss....Its not like you can jump in AE and get everything easier and faster, and no one held 500 Million Influ CCs 5 times a day for giggles.

Now days players get spoiled and think IO are the answer all the time. They are for PvP it seems, but not for Farming. If you need IOs for something to Farm, then maybe its not ment to farm.

    Ill be farming with a Fire/EM Blaster, and a Spines/Invln Scrapper.Neither will be IO'd.

I "farm" with my sonic/storm corr and fort all the time though. My suggestion is pick a toon that is hardy enough to survive so its not frusterating, but that you are willing to play for the hours of farming you want to do. Im still efficient with my toons so whatever.

Remembering that you dont rock IO's, go with willpower, a MM, or a /kin.

Wait, why are you farming if you dont rock IO's?
I seem to recall people farming before there where IOs...so I dont see how thats a valid question.

  11. I also wanna IO up a Dark/Dark Defender, it does rather well in PvP.

Yeah, IOs are virtually essential in PvP. You don't need purples and PvP IOs (I PvP without 'em myself and do just fine), but SOs won't cut it against a serious PvPer. I've tested this. I made a SOed PvP build using my Broadsword/Super Reflexes Scrapper's second build and dueled my friend's Empathy/Dark Defender, who is built primarily for support and little for personal damage, but is IOed out like crazy. She killed my Scrapper twice. I then swapped builds to my IOed out AV-soloist build and dueled again. She couldn't scratch me anymore. If I had a travel power to chase her into the air, I could have killed her in a few strokes of my sword.

So basically, if a support-specced IOed toon can defeat a PvP specced SOed toon, that's pretty clear evidence to me that IOs are pretty much mandatory for PvP.

Anyway, if you do go Defender (and probably other squishies too), slot for HP, Damage, and Recharge. Maybe in that order of prioritizing. My Rad/Sonic has somewhere around 1.4k-1.5k HP, which is a bit more than a level 50 Scrapper without any +HP buffs.
The max Hide is one problem, but what about the Targetting drone, Tactics, and Perception IO deal?that has to count for something right?
  13. Fire_Minded

    Um... Melee?

I tend to Nuke at Range most times with my AR/Dev and Fire/EM build.I am one of the few people that takes Rain of Fire for a Blaster and uses it.

I plan on Farming with my Fire/EM Blaster soon.

Well, for PvE and a little PvP, id say both have there good points.

Iv had a high level Fire/MM Blaster, it didnt do so hot on the PvP scene, but it did great on fast moving teams like StratoNexus said.

AR/Dev, iv seen it do decent in PvE...and rock the house in PvP.Pretty solid utility and variance in damage with that toon.

Then I have a 3rd Blaster.Fire/EM.This ones my Favorite to use on teams.Nothings funnier then wiping a mob while the team leader is instructing the team to follow the tanker and stay near the healer.

Hasten, Boost Range, Build Up, Aim, Rain of Fire, Fireball, Fire Breath, Fireball.....If anythings alive before it gets to you...it aint happy...lol!

If you know there's a Stalker and you're not constantly moving with SS/SJ, expect at any moment to loose 1/2 of your health. And, when you do, MOVE! And heal too, whether via powerset heal, Respite, Aid Self, or what have you. If you're a ranged squishie, you need to kite them and keep up the pressure. If you keep hitting them, they cannot enter Hide unless they Placate and then do nothing. If they Placate, back off and keep moving so they can't fire off a second AS. Hopefully they'll throw a Shark or somesuch and break Placate. Yes, it'll crit (whether from Hide or Placate), but it's far better than getting smashed by AS. If you make it through the initial Hide break and Placate, you're pretty much homefree for killing them as long as you don't get a miss streak if they try to Hide again. Some may have Hibernate, however. Oh, and against the Stalkers not stacking stealth, perception will let you spot them. To outdo my Defender's Tactics, a Stalker needs Hide, Stealth, and a Stealth IO, otherwise I can see them at least at melee range.

Now, for the most important question: is your toon IOed out? You don't need purples/PvPs/HOs to be awesome, I personally do not use them and I do just fine. However, SOs do will not cut it against an IOed toon. Period. I'm not fond of huge inf investment requirement to be moderately successful in serious PvP, but it's there. You need IOs and at least the HP/End accolades too. They make HUGE difference. Between my IOs and my resistance toggle, Stalkers cannot two-shot me.

Now, if you really want to annoy Stalkers, I hear Earth/TA Controllers are perfect. They may not get the kills, but Stalkers can't AS through Earthquake (and quicksand too I think) and all those DoTs will prevent them from going into Hide for a good while. I have zero personal experience with this though.

Stalkers aren't a big deal, you just need practice. Now, Dominators... ::rages::
Good points here, and no, Im some what dead set agnest IOs of any kind, but I think ill make a acception for PvP.I just never see a need for them in PvE.

You are right about getting used to Stalkers on my Defenders, but its not easy when a well known Stalker that has 100% Purple IOs and targets you and then tells you not to get mad is a bit frustrating.

Your side point on Dominators...ohh yeh...they are just as bad or worse then Stalkers, but atleast you can see them comming half the time. Not that it matters when your dead in 3 hits anyhow.....

I have however turned into a bit of a Hypocrit.Iv decided on a PvP build, and its with a set I said id never use....Archery.

Yup, iv made a Acrhery/Dev Blaster.Iv seen 1 of these guys wipe the floor with Doms and Stalkers. If you look at the damage bases for Archery in PvP, its no wonder people choose it alot for PvP Blasters.199 damage base at 50 for Burning Arrow, 266 damage base for Snipe, 149 damage for Aimed Shot...I mean OUCH!It seems to be the best PvP Blaster damage for allt he sets, and its rather fast recharging.

Other then that, im going to make a Claws/Invln and a Spines/Invln Scrapper.I already have a Elec/EM tanker im leveling, so ill have to live without the Elec/SS build.

Kinda iffy on a Controller build, but we shall see what we shall see.

Ill try to train more with my Dark/Dark, and guess I need to get IOs for it.

    Thanks for the advice.

Of the builds you listed, I lol'd at all of them. There is NO room for concept in pvp. If you wanna be competitive and you wanna play a scrapper its fire/rgn or nothing. And even still its melolee.
Blasters its either fire or psi/em. Being /dev WILL get you killed.
Defenders low health total is their biggest drawback, in addition to their anemic damage.

I havent bothered to catch up to the new post-I13 pvp and dont care to start now. I can still do "decent" with some of my old toons. But if i wanna pvp, I get my fix in other games now. But heh, you might love it.

If you are still inclined to get involved, role a VEAT. With side switching on the horizon; and im not 100% sure of the exact distance, widow/forts perception will enable you to see stalkers from 100 ft out. They still will have DR'd defense and be pretty squishie, but thats the direction Id go. YMMV.

Again, Id go to the pvp boards for more solid/intelligent/better advice though.
Im not so sure id agree with much of what you said.Other then the goto PvP forums, but id rather not because they can get pretty snarky there.

As for my build ideas being laughable?Thats a farse as well.

Iv watched Device Blasters rip people a new one, especially Stalkers and Dominators.Everyone else doesnt usually see them.

You suggjest a Psi/EM Blaster?Thats interesting considering the unpleasurable experiance iv had on a Fire/EM.Thats like asking for a Stalker to come kill me and call me a newb.

As for Themed?I only pointed out 1 build to be themed for anything. The rest are ideas.By the way, if its Fire/Regen or nothing, but its still supposedly laughable, then why make one?I also dont see any of those running around either.

Im calling Shinanigans on you.You seem to know less then I do about current PvP, and to not put to fine of a point on it, you admit you dont PvP, so your information, I cannot take for face value.

    My vote....Tanker.
  21. Ok, iv recently started trying my hand at PvP with the I16 rules.

I mainly use my Defenders in pvp and I do rather well.I take out Brutes, Corrs, the occastional Mastermind. However theres 1 advisary I have extreem amounts of trouble with.....Stalkers..

I have issues on all my Defender builds with this AT.

I use Tar patch, and stand smack dab in the middle of it.I get AS'd by a stalker sitting right out of the rings range.

I get told to constantly keep moving so a Stalker cant hit me..... I get hit with Impale for half my health and stopped long enough to get hit 1-2 more times before death.Or I get AS'd anyhow while jumping around on the move and then hit with Focus and killed.

I get on my Tanker, and it turns into a scene from Pitch Black.Nothings around me, then all the sudden I face plant from 6 AS's hitting me either all at once or in a row.I never see what hits me.

Then another of the ****-eyed I16 rule just bugs the holy hell out of me.

The far chance that the Stalker doesnt hill you with his Alpha, you heal it up, or you just get lucky and he misses. He gets away before you can hit him more then once.Thats frickin annoying! Not that its anything new with Stalkers to do the Hit and Run, but why can they get away while being fired apon?Wasnt I16 supposed to make it to where they cant escape so easly?

Im getting fed up with being Stalker Bait.It makes me rather upset that you can only bring a handful of things into PvP and survive. Most of these things I dont care to play.

I decided to take someones advice and make a Fire/EM Blaster...ok...no problem right?WRONG!BIG PROBLEM!Stalkers kill it just as fast if not faster then my Defenders.Theres no point in PvPing if some mouthy angry player targets you 90% of the time because he knows he an 2 shot you and theres not alot you can do about it other then get annoyed.

However, I saw a few build ideas that may make me go full throddle and ignore all my other toons just to get something I can PvP with that will take Stalkers out of the running while im playing.Maybe you guys can give me some pointers as to what would be a good build for this endevor.

First off, theres a few power sets I dont wanna take, just on Princable alone.Such as Archery.

My build ideas are as follows.

    Blasters
    -----------
    Rad/Dev
    AR/Dev
    Elec/Dev

    Tankers
    ------------
    FA/SS
    Elec/SS
    Elec/EM

    Scrappers
    -------------
    Spines/Invln
    Claws/Dark
Claws/Invln - (My make this one anyhow due to wanting a Vangaurd Sword Claws/Impervium Armor theme.Doesnt disclude any other possible slots for a PvP Scrapper)

    Controllers
    --------------
    Illu/Storm
    Illu/FF
    Illu/Kin

These are the viable options im looking at for PvP.Any suggjestions or comments? It would be most helpful.

By the way, No, this is not a Trolling post, and ill acctually take suggjestions into consideration.Thank you in advance everyone.
  22. I dont have Mid's so I wont be commenting on yoru build, but I will say that if you want to Farm with a Blaster, I can suggjest 2 builds off the top of my head that would do nicely.

Sonic/Fire - Siren's Song the mob, Combustion, Fire Sword Circle...ect...

    Fire/EM - Nuke from afar.

    The End!

Since most people see Brutes as the Redside Tanker, when I have Scrapper level defenses I feel like I'll probably die more than if I was a Tanker.

Any opinions or advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
(If I make a Tanker it will probably be Inv/SS, if I make a Brute it will probably be an SS/SD)
You first and biggest Problem with what you just said.

Edit: To be honest, I almost feel bad I responded to this. Nothing in the OP or my post was complaining about defender solo speed. The desire to IO out a character is not necessarily because the character needs IOs to function, but just something you can do for fun and to give yourself some little extras.
I wasnt thinking anyone was complaining.I was simply noticing that alot of people on the forums feel a Defender Cant solo with being Purple IOd.I must have read the OPs statement wrong and interpreted the way he worded it like a Defender needs IOs to attempt Soloing, but I dunno.

Either way, in many cases my Defenders do Solo Fast then my Scrappers.Prolly because I dont activly Play any Scrappers!LOL!just teasing!

I tend to make rather strong Defenders, and they do end up killing rather fast.AoE is King baby!

So either im lazy, or I just dont see the need for IOs to perform the way many people want to with IOs to play a Defender solo.I was just simply asking a question.Maybe ill ask it on a diffrent post because it might have been a little out of place here.
  25. I tried a FF/Archery build before, but the damage from Archery was...well, ewww.So I went with FF/Energy instead. So far its working out rather well.

I have a Theory that Ill be able to Solo using Force Bubble and 3 KB AoEs.Energy Torrent, Energy Exsplosion, and Repulsion Bomb.Sounds odd I know, but if I can solo 8 man missions with a Storm/Elec and a Cold/Ice, I shouldnt have any issues with a FF/Energy Defender.(Without IOs on any Defender builds.)

My Advice, you might want to re-evaluate Archery for a Defender. It does look fun, but after 18 Levels of a FF/Archery Defender, I wont be touching Archery for Defenders any time soon.
