How cute, I have a Stalker.
Im no longer arguing with anyone on the Perma-Hasten Issue, because you have a few seconds down time, which people say isnt Perma, maybe its not, but id very much like you to stop stalking me Lucky666.
I can easly get you for Harrassment by trying to focus unwanted attention towards another poster, when they are not on the post your talking about.
So back off, and just for your information Lucky666, my Resistance Tanks can blow through the difficulties I just quoted. My Fire Tanker is set up for massive Damage, even for a Tanker, and my Elec Tanker is set up for Damage and KD.
Its a diffrent playing style using the Tankers I use vs WP/ or Inlvn/ sets. Why dont you try it some time. -
If you had issues on a FA/DB Tanker, which would seem like a solid Tank for my playing style, it doesnt work for yours.
Id say youd be happier with a WP/ build, which isnt uncommon for 75% of people who play Tankers.
If youv had a bad experiance with a Tanker, dont make others look down on it by cutting it down.By doing this, you push other people who would acctually like, and enjoy, as well as properly play a FA/ Tanker to play WP/ or Invln/ Type builds, that they may or, may not like at all.
Im learning to not put down things, because it does no one any good.
My Red bars under my Name and Picture attest to this. Not that I mind, Red matches my Picture and Name. -
Iv been making Defenders, left and right, and the one I didnt like off the bat was my Cold/Ice Defender, but I went ahead and kept playing it.
My thought was that it was a Slow Riser, like some Tankers. So I kept playing till level 22, where everything seemed to change for my Cold/Ice.The moment I hit level 22, I bought Up SOs, and I was happy to be over the Stamina, and DO hump.
I went into a Mission, and fired off a Ice Storm, and a Snow Storm, and started laying into the mob with my Frost Breath, and ST attacks. Not only did I survive, but I dropped a +0 /5 w/bosses Mob by my self.So I upped the mob grouping to +0 /8 w/bosses....I SURVIVED!
That to me means im on a good track with this Defender, and I may be playing it more then the rest of my Defenfders because it acctually does damage, and gives great CC.It litterally feels like a Blaster to me.
Does anyone have a higher level Cold/Ice Defender that could toss in some insight on how much more damaging and powerful itll become? -
Hi there, im curious how many Defenders out there acctually Tank, or do more then mash healing buttons?
Iv found it possible to Tank with all my Defenders, and each one of them deals decent to high damage for a Defender, and not 1 of them have a heal.Well, unless you consider Triage a heal anyhow.
Each one of my Defenders has, or will have anywhere from 4 to 5 AoE/Cone attacks, on top of there ST Blasts, and a boat load of debuffs.
Iv recently learned how to Tank with my Storm/Elec Defender, which I found surprising to say the least. You can hit a Mob with Freezing Rain, then ancor a Snow Storm on a Boss, and jump in, and wack the mob with a Lightning Clap.It stuns the Minions, and drops alot of incomming damage. Then I continue the assault with my AoEs and eat the Endurance of the mob, so if they survive long enough, the mob is powerless, and without Endurance, making it easy on the team as well.
My Cold/Ice with increased Range from jumping back the moment I trigger Sleet, allowing me to easly Alpha a mob, and put them on there butts, so my self, and the entire team can rush in and kill it all.Talk about tanking from a Distance, this Defender can do it rather easly, and dish out the damage, while staying out of the mobs ranged attacks radius.
Iv discovered that with my Sonic/Sonic Also has a hidden way to Tank in its Play.Using Siren's Call as a Alpha, then following up with a AoE Knockback Shock Wave (I think thats the name, I rarly look), that most skip, because they belive it to not be team friendly. It allows you to hit a Mob with Alpha, giving the Team the upper hand to take out the mob while they are down.Yes, the -res on your blasts matter that much to a team while playing this build. It is easier to fudge this Alpha up a bit easier then you can with the previously mentioned 2 Defenders.
Then my Traps/Rad, You can easly Alpha a Mob and tank for a team, simply by using Seeker Drones on a mob before moving in.Anyone whos ever played Traps, should know how powerful these little boogers are.Allowing you to jump in, and set up a Kill Zone for the team that follows you.
Then my Dark/Dark.If any of you have seen a D3, you know exactly what that Defender can do.
Theres soo many Combonations I could play with Defenders, and they can all shine in a team setting, and most of them, in a solo setting as well.
How many of you can step up and Alpha a team without a Tanker leading the way?
Id like future Defender Players to know whats possible with a Defender, so please, dont be shy.Step on up and tell us how you do what you do, and do so well. -
Quote:Whats your Melee set?Hi,
I was wondering if I could hope to ever play at the highest possible level of difficulty (all levels to the max) as a regen?
I use the run + leap away while attacking but while it works against 3-5 mobs, it doesn't against much more than that.
I was wondering if there is hope with the whirlwind (3 slotted with endurance) + ranged defense strategy? Whirlwind is a huge endurance sinker though.
Are there other strategies out there to play at the highest possible difficulties as a regen?
thanks -
Quote:Hitting the nail on the head there Clouded, the character sets the pace for soloing. Not to mention the player does as well.I tend to adjust the difficulty per character. For instance, high AoE characters might get a bump for number of players I'm equal to whereas ST characters will get a bump for level of the enemies I fight.
For instance, my Elec/Stone Tank runs at +0/x2 since he's durable and can dispatch +0 quickly. My Elec/Elec blaster runs at -1/x4 since he has more AoE.
Id have to say that +0 would be fine for your Tanker.Although im surprised thats the level you have to use to be speedy while soloing.Foot Stomp will help im sure, but im still surprised because I hear everyone rave about a WP/SS Tanker.Never made one personally, but have watched them before, and wasnt impressed.
Iv never solo'd missions any lower then +1/8 w/bosses on any of my Tankers, and they rip through like a flame through tissue paper. The highest I can solo at is +3/8 w/bosses on my Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker.Im a bit reluctant to push it to +4 with my Fire Tanker, and tend to go at a +2/8 w/bosses pace on my Elec/Elec Tanker.
After Foot Stomp for your tanker is grabbed up, id up the difficulty to +0/8 w/bosses.You should have no issues ripping through that rather fast.
Right now, my level 27 Traps/Rad Defender can solo rather quickly at a +0/8 w/bosses, so I have no douts you should be able to as well. -
Quote:By telling you that you took a political stance on my post, was pretty much me trying to be snarky towards you, because you said something silly, and told me to think out side of the box, when you still, to this moment, do not understand what iv been saying. So, this would be a stereotype. Because that's what it says about brutes, that means it is true of all brutes?
At least that's what you seem to be saying here. Yes, the game mechanic is called Fury, but couldn't it just as easily be an adrenaline rush rather than anger?
This would also be a stereotype. Because that's what it says about orcs, that means it is NOT true of all orcs?
If the brute stereotype is universally true, as you are saying here, why is the orc stereotype not universally true as well?
It's not a political stance at all. You're contradicting yourself, and saying that one stereotype is absolutely true, with no exceptions, while saying that another stereotype is not true at all.
What you're saying about brutes is that the fury bar can't represent anything BUT anger. I say the fury bar can represent anything you want it to represent.
You also say that an orc can be intelligent and agile. I never once argued with that, because I happen to agree that not all orcs are necessarily the dumb, crude barbarians they are made out to be. But you're also saying that if you created the character as a brute he would have to be a dumb, crude barbarian, and it's just not true. You can define your character any way you want, making him a brute does not mean he HAS to be a certain way.
And to think, all this started because I suggested a powerset combination that fit what you were looking for. A Battle Axe/Super Reflexes brute.
Edit: I think the real question here is: If you're so set on your Orc themed character not being stereotypical, why are you going with the clunkiest, most barbaric scrapper set available? If you really want to make an out-of-the-box orc, go with katana and take the Chinese broadsword (assuming you have the martial arts pack of course)
I was effectivly telling you that your a good politician, because you just had to sit there and pick every reply apart, and debate it.You should run for congress.
Just to clearify, I mentioned the word Brute, many times.I also want to point out that I said words like Stupid, and Dumb when in refrence to how stories depicted the Orcs in them.Im not talking about your brute, or anyone elses brutes.
I have a Brute that uses a Kinetic Acclerator Suit to up his damage output, and he is a very smart scientist.
I also have a brute thats a half fire demon, and the more he uses his powers, while his endurance starts to drop, the hotter and more damaging he becomes.Kind of like how a Candle burns brightest, right before it goes out.
So im talking about Orcs in STORY BOOKS, as being written in as dumb, and easy to kill brutes, beacuase thats whats in the STORY BOOKS.....
Orcs are commonly considered ugly to Human, Elves, Dwarves, and Fairy Folk alike, so there are commonly written in as the dumb, easy to trick, easy to kill bad guys. When researching them points to the opposite direction, that they are smart, very strong, very agressive, and very fast, and more then a match for most, if not all of the before mentioned beings.
Good enough clarification for you? -
That would be cool. You could call it it the High Colonic Blasts.
-
As said before, Grav/FF is a rare combonation on this game, but I think I got it beat.
How many FF/Archery Defenders do you see?
1.....ME! -
Anyhow, Im going to go with Grav/TA for my Controller.
That is if i can stop makin new Defenders ...Now im leveling a Frickin FF/Archery.. -
The way I perma'd both AM and Hasten, was by triggering my Hasten, that had 3 SOs of recharge, then 5 seconds later, Triggering AM.If you stay on top of it, that 5 seconds of Recharge allows Hasten to coast to where you can trigger it again, when it wears off, and it adds to the Recharge of the remaining 5 seconds of AM, which also has 3 SOs of Recharge in it.
Thus, you just triggered them both, back to back, a mere 5 seconds after Hasten Wears off from the first cycle. If 5 seconds isnt considered perma, then fine, but 5 Seconds is NOTHING.
Hasten First, 5 seconds later, AM, then Hit Hasten the moment it looks like its about to fully recharge, it goes off, then hit AM 5 seconds later. -
Quote:My bad on the Modifier number there, 56% it is, but its still a hefty boost.A Sonic Defender adds about 56% Resistance to the team, not 68%.
15% from Sonic Dispersion, 20% from the ally shields is 35% base total. Mutliply by 1.6 for your enhancements and you get 56%.
It still stacks really well for characters who already have resistance, like Fire_Minded says.
I'd grab Sonic Barrier first.
Sonic Siphon doesn't do a whole heap solo I found - against anything less than a boss it means you defeat the targetted enemy with 1 less attack, but you had to spend animation time and end to fire it off, so... you kind of break even for much of typical PvE gameplay. Against AVs and EBs its well worth it though.
Rad/Sonic is a really effective and popular choice, and great for solo and team play.
Sonic/Rad is very weak solo because Rad Blast offers very little in the way of damage mitigation.
Im not sure where I got 68% from, espcially when I wrote down 56% on a previous post talking about it before. -
The sonic bubble you should take reguardless.Sonic Siphon, is your call, itll help solo later in the game when you deal more damage, but early game you dont see huge diffrences, and for being a ST debuff, it takes alot of Endurance, so you could skip it till later levels, or skip it all together.
-
Quote:Well, I have a Sonic/Sonic Defender, so I can tell you how it plays.Or would be a Rad/Sonic be better? as a debuff monster? o.o
Or would Rad/Rad be better than Rad/Sonic? >_>
You can have 45% resistance to Smash/Lethal damage if you have toughness from the fighting pool running, and 23% to everything else.
Those in your Sonic Bubble, will gain 23% to all damage types in resistance as well. That is if you 3 slot SOs of damager resistance in it.Then you can pump up everyone with 45% damage resistance to everything with 2 other personal sonic armor powers in the primary set.
If the person you armor up stays in your sonic bubble, youll grant them 68% resistance to all damage.Thats for blasters, and others that dont have Armor sets.Yup, that Blaster has 68% damage resistance.
Then to top it all off, if you armor up that Super Reflexes Scrapper, and stay near him to keep him in your bubble, he gets the 68% damage resistance as well as continues to use his high Def%'s.You effectivly just made that Scrapper, a high damage dealing, fast moving, Granite Tanker.
Say youv got a Electric Armor, or Invln, or Fire Armor on the Team....You'll cap all there resistances. No questions asked.
You hear about how a Soft-Capped character only takes 10% of the incomming damage because of how much it dodges.Heres something else to consider. When you Cap Resistance, you take only 10% of the incomming damage, just like that Soft Capped player, because you Cap at 90% for a Tanker, and Brutes Resistance.
Now, moving on.....
You can set up a Dissruption Field around the Tanker, and when he jumps in to the mob, he uses your field thats around him, to drop the mobs damage resistance by 30%, then if you take howl, and cone that same mob, you drop it another 20% for a total of 50% damage resistance reduction.
A attack that would normally do 50 damage, now does 75, one that does 100 damage now does 150, and that 300 damage KO blow, now does 450.....see the pattern?
Id seriously stay away from taking Rad Blasts with Sonic Primary.
The choice on what your more comfortable with is yours, but my Sonic/Sonic Defender is a force to be reckoned with on a team, and does rather well solo. -
I can chirp in on a Storm/ Defender, because one of my many Defenders is a Storm/Elec.
I think its the Storm/ players your teaming with.I have no problems on this build, and I do dole out some rather good damage on this build with its blasts.I also can take the Alpha on teams if we cant find a Tanker, because of the Endurance I drain after making the mob flop onto there butts with Freezing Rain, and ancoring a Snow Storm on a Boss before getting into the mobs range of ranged attacks.
Sometimes, I elect a Scrapper if we cant find a Tanker if the mobs are +3 or higher on the difficulty scale, because with my Debuffs, the Scrapper can take the Alpha if theres no Tank.
For me personally, I have yet to try taking down a AV or GM with her yet, but I will try in the future. From how I can handle mobs, and Bosses, I dont dout that I can widdle down a AV with her.
Having no -regen isnt much of a issue, mainly because with my build, you can easly fire off a ST chain, with the Snipe on a Big Bad, thanks mainly in part to the -end ability I carry with mine, and the proper use of Hurricane.
At level 25, I tend to do around 180 Damage on a Snipe, and 100 on Lighting Bolt, and 55 on Charged Bolt, after I use Freezing Rain.I have no douts that even without the -regen, Lightning Storm, the 3 shot ST attack chain I just mentioned, Aim, Voltiac Sentinal, and Thunder Strike from the Epic Pool.Ill have no issues once I drain the AV, or GM's Endurance, and keep it in Freezing Rain while running Hurricane, While I Zap all the fluid from its body like a bug landing on a Bug Zapper.
I will agree that Sonic will be a good mix with Storm, if your looking for more damage, however, the main reason why my Storm Defender is so successful at using the Storm set, is largy due to the Endurance I sap from her enemies. If I had made her with a diffrent Secondary, I prolly would have deleted her by now, because jumping into a mob and using 2-4 AoEs that drop the mobs Endurance to 0, (depending on what your fighting and the difficult level), just makes a great mix with Storm.
The few Storm Defenders iv seen use there powers like they are going out of style, and really dont contain much, and all to often use the KB of Storm like they just cant stop them selves from pushing the buttons.
Most people dont get the idea of how to play a Defender, so id say its those players making it look bad.
Almost forgot, Hurricane adds a Huge -toHit debuff if anything even tries to get near you, or you get near them.So tanking a AV should be easly possible. -
Ok, so I guess being able to back to back Hasten and AM the moment they wear off has been imagined huh?
Very well, Ill make a Rad Aura toon and video it, as well as show that its only using SOs. -
Quote:Ok, since you belive that I have to show you numbers, instead of showing you in person, you can keep your money.I dont need a moron back peddling on his own 100 million influence deal for proof.lol math not your strong suit is it, show me a build or no money.
What person tells me "Show me the Build first" when that person was just told they could be shown, to there face, in front of God and everyone in CoH that Perma-Hasten and Perma-AM, is possible using SOs.
You are very arrogant, and one of the most ignorant posters iv seen on these forums, and I seriously dout you even have 100 million in the first place to pay for it.
Im done with you, enjoy the lack of knowledge you seem to possess. As if your name doesnt tell us how ignorant you are in the first place. -
Bit of a heads up to everyone that uses Trip Mine.
Iv used it on a Blaster, and a Defender, and unless im mistaken, both of the ATs Trip Mines, do the exact same damage.
Its rather cute when I set a Trip mine in a mob on my Traps Defender, and it hits them all for 200 at level 27. -
Just a heads up there Lucky666, Iv done it 2 times before on a Plant/Rad, Controller and a Rad/Rad Defender.
-
Quote:I tell you what, ill do one better.Ill make my Gravity Controller with Rad Secondary, and show you once I ding 22 with it.you show me a build with just SOs and perma hasten no bets involved I'll give you a free 100 Million.
If you dont feel like waiting, you can make a Rad Aura toon, and 3 slot Hasten, 3 slot AM, and start Hasten, then start up AM, and the moment it wears off of both of them, you can start Hasten, and AM back up again, just have 3 Recharge Redux in both powers.
You owe me 100 mil, ill take it the moment you see your truth, and thankx in advance. -
-
Claws, Broad Sword, Katana, Dual Blades are all good choices.
I suggjest all the Weapon sets, because nothings prettier then the Eye-Ball weapons with Dark Armor. Its very good to Theme them together.
Also, with Claws, you save alot of Endurance vs the other sets, and its rather easy and fun to play.
I went ahead and made my BS/SD Orc, because of the Eyeball equipment, and Orcs tend to like pretty, yet mocob looking things.Like a Rams Skull shaped into a hat with Feathers. -
Ok, Im curious about how people use IOs, and suggjest how they use them to others on this forum.
I will point out, that this isnt a attempt to attack anyone on this forum, its just something im curious about, and dont understand.
Iv been watching people talk about adding Def% IOs to there builds, and have watched alot of others suggjest the same thing to another player using IOs.
"I have a Fire Armor Tank, and I was wanting to know what would be a good way to IO it?"
Common answer, "Put possitional Defense in it."
"Would Perma-Dom still be good on a Dominator since it doesnt boost damage anymore?"
Common Answer, "Put possitional Defense in it."
"Iv got a Earth/Empathy Controller, whats a good IO path?"
Common Answer, "Put possitional Defense in it."
"I have a Elec/Elec brute, should I give it Global Recharge to get faster Heals from Energize and Lightining Rods?"
Common Answer, "Put possitional Defense in it."
Ok, thats 4 Examples of something I dont understand, and belive me, theres alot more then just 4 I could toss out there.
These are acctual builds iv watched people ask a question about, and all get the same common answer.Im curious as to why this seems to be the only way to IO anything for so many people?
For that Fire Armor Tank, and the Electrical Brute, id have suggjested that the Fire Tank take up Global Recharge, Recovery, and Regen, and would have suggjested the very same to the Brute.I also would have suggjested KB IOs for the Tank, that would increase the survivability, and power of those melee character more then Def% being added to there builds.
I think Global Recharge would be all the IOs a Earth/EMP controller would need, and maybe a pet IO set that allows for a BU or something like that for the pet.Def % wouldnt be needed.
Then the most puzzling thing iv ever seen, is to suggjest to a Dominator to get def %, instead of Perma-Dom.If you have enough Global Recharge to have Perma-Domination, theres aboslutly no reason to have Def %s at all, the mob is under total control, and if its not, then somethings wrong with your attack run.
So my real question is, why does everyone suggjest Possional Defense for everything in the game, when the builds would benifit from another route way more? -
Perma-Dom is still extreemly Viable, and would benifit you more then Def%.
Global Recharge lets you fire off your attacks very quickly, making your AoE controls more helpful, and Perma-Dom doubling your Controls ability to Control, would make the need for Def% pointless to begin with.
Domination fills up your End Bar, so Id say really all youd wanna try for, would be Recovery, and Regen, and Global Recharge.Thats about all you need.
