Quote:That would pretty much take care of the horrible WW lag issue with all the people spamming effects and the screamin' demons too.[*]The whole look and feel is wrong. The AH UI is too big and too important to be windowed the way it is currently. Making it into an autonomous page a la the Costume Interface and Enhancement window. A small space allocated to chat tabs would be invaluable there but when I'm buying and selling I want to see my inventory and what's available.
I'm all for this. -
Quote:Yup. All my scrappers slot for knockdown, which is a PITA if the mobs are lower level and it turns into KB, but worthwhile. KC KB IO in all my single target attacks, plus AS, and I can juggle a boss for a good long time. This bug is exactly the reason that almost all of my melee characters and many of my Blasters have Air Superiority. Can't run away if you're picking your face up off the deck.

Quote:I agree that elephant heads is pretty much beyond reasonable use. However, this may be "sold" as a superhero game, but it's clearly far beyond that. What's so super-heroic about the jester costume, or the bikini, or the pirate costume? We're clearly not limited by "is this a super hero's costume" when we go into the editor....the problem is, that this is a game centered around SUPERHEROES. I can think of very few comics characters offhand that utilize anything other than wolf or cat heads. Alien heads? Ok, this is a sci-fi themed game, we could use more of those.
I will not comment on anime, since this is a genre I loathe and so I have no idea what goes on there.
The problem is that a bunch of people running around with elephant heads [recently suggested in another thread] would break the theme of the game quite severely. In essence, do we want to encourage things like clones of Beta Ray Bill?
So its not just about Jay's dislike of furries. Its about thematic appropriateness to the game, and cute bunny girls are.... sort of not very superheroic. Or even very villainous... This isn't Playboy Mansion Online. Pining for these type of things is likely to be an excercise in futility, I fear. Mileage will vary but I would not hold my breath for zillions of animal parts to be added; if we are LUCKY we'll get a little more wolf-themed stuff. Wolf, bat and cat-heads would not break theme, and we could certainly use some updated ones.
What I think a lot of us want are better/multiple options for our anthro characters. More than one wolf head - and frankly, better designed ones that don't look like hydrocephalic dogs. More than one cat head and bat head. More muzzles that are easier to modify as far as length and width. More and better ears, possibly with animations/twitch. Fur ruffs and shoulder manes. Better and more defined "bestial/hairy" skin options that have a sliding scale of how hairy/wooly you are and better color options. Feathers and feathered skin. More scale-skin patterns (king cobra markings on the back anyone?) and more snake-like reptile heads - heck, port in the Snake upper bodies whole cloth, and I'd LOVE to see the lower bodies available as well, even if it wasn't available with certain power sets like Martial Arts. Maybe lizardy neck fringes with the same basic geometry as the jester neck ruff, or even better, the stand-up collar that the Ring Mistresses get. Better bestial/human faces. And more tails - I've been waiting for a horse tail since my first character! -
Yes please. Let's NOT encourage Jay's prejudice against such an art pack, folks! Frankly I'd kill to have a Beast pack be the next pack, you'd think the outcry about the mutant pack and the practically-forced inclusion of the wolf tail would indicate to them it's very highly desired.

Quote:YES! Of course, it's even MORE annoying when that jack ALSO has a bright magenta shadowfall gumming everything up :PI cannot stand that sound, especially when some jack has all six of them up in WW while I'm marketing. I thought it was annoying when people had Shadow Fall or whatnot up in WW, but the howling takes the cake.
Quote:Spine's AoE and Tech insp storage, I silenced.
Demon howls, are now the giggles of a 2 year old.
Sonic is a combination of chimes and bird sounds.
MM Botz as mentioned before, rubber duckie squeak. Didn't really find it annoying, but they do so much clomping around.
How did you change the sounds? O.o
I have the same trouble with the grunt from jumping. It really REALLY doesn't suit most of my characters, I hate it. -
Ok, this is really, really weird, but here it is.
Turning off ALL game sounds made my FPS go back up. The white maps (and indeed, the rest of Praetoria) are now at comfortable framerates, and the old CoX content is nice and speedy.
Of course, this presents me with the problem of now playing the game without sound. I turned off the music long ago (mostly because it was repetitive and changed too rapidly when traveling across a zone for my tastes) but I DID like game sounds on. Not only does it make me feel more "present" in the combat, but it's hard to find things like glowies now.
Any suggestions for being able to turn my sound back on without killing my FPS? >.< I updated my sound driver when I did my video driver, darn it! -
Quote:Well the problem with that is that I have several toons who use the "eden" top to simulate not wearing clothes up top (they are fauns/satyrs and thus have no need to wear such things) and I can get the eden top to match some of the browner skin tones pretty well, and it has no edges to "give it away."Honestly, I don't see that "Eden" top getting anything but maybe stitching around the border. I think it's conceptually part of the idea that it is just hanging in space with no way to support it. Strings would not be required.
Putting stitching around the border would destroy my ability to do that. -
Ugh, I forgot about CoT. But for me, their range of death comes in the Earth Mage levels. EFF those things and their quicksand. Eff them even more in groups of 5 or more :|
-
Ordinarily I'd really go with "replace everything and take the yucky old pieces out"... but sometimes the "new" pieces are ugly and don't work well for what the old piece was being used for. So, I'm torn.
As far as the tank top goes... you know, I'd say replace all the "painted on" pieces for sure, but don't automatically replace them with something that looks wrinkled and curled and weird. Not everyone wants their heroes to be wearing ill-fitting clothing! -
-
Really depends on what AT I'm playing, but it's a real tossup between sappers (no problem on my controllers,) Master Illusionists (no problem on my scrappers) and the Knives in toto (no problem on characters who fly or teleport)

Quote:Heh, I was noticing the same thing. After posting and reading this thread we got something in common.
Epics not so epic.
Dual pistols needs a boost in damage.
Hope any dev read this and realize epics and dual pistols need a boost.
I didn't post ATs that I simply don't enjoy (like blasters and tankers,) just the characters that I love but hate the actual AT/powerset they currently play with. To me, that pretty much comes down to my Kheldian, sadly, who I desperately wanted to love.
It's a shame because my VEAT is fun in a bun! -
Quote:Continuing to demonize the other side by implying they aren't thinking, are reacting emotionally, or are for some reason afraid just makes you look like a jerk. In fact, you pretty much have reacted to everyone's opinions who disagree with you in a negative emotional fashion. The crowd, like a number of people in this thread, reacted with a knee jerk response with no time to give any thought to the matter and without any information or facts.
That is not something to make a decision based on.
Given information and time to think, they may well have given a different answer. They may have found that the fears they had were unfounded and based on misconceptions.
Lots of us have been here since i0 and are still here, this topic comes up periodically, it's been discussed to death. We've had plenty of time to think about it. -
Quote:Huh! Maybe we'll run into each other sometime!I grabbed Sparkdancer on Virtue the day i18 went live, also a Praetorian E/E Dom.
I'd been using the name for a DB/Electric on Protector for a while. Last year I wanted to move her to Virtue but the name wasn't available. I tried it on a lark and it had opened.
"Sparkdancer" was on my list of second-string names to try, actually. Since she's a Clockwork, "a dance of sparks" seemed more appropriate to her than "one who dances with sparks," in my mind.
And as to me "not speaking for everyone," Johnny...
Quote:A little while back, at HeroCon IIRC, the devs asked the people assembled if they would like a change to the naming system that would free up all names.
That crowd, for the most part, said "no".
I do agree with Eva that accounts that were never linked to a global should have ALL their names released if possible, as well as trial accounts, and I even think that accounts that have been inactive for 3 years or more should have everything up to say 25 released. But I think the system you're proposing is clunky and annoying, and there have been many perfectly good refutations of it in this thread. -
I only play on Virtue, which is one of the highest-pop servers.
I *just* got Sparkdance for my Clockwork Elec/Elec dominator. That's a wonderful name just sitting there unused, and I snagged it 6 years in. I had several other backup/thesaurus versions to try in case that failed, but I didn't have to.
I made a Praetorian MM, too. The roleplay concept is that he's not a guy with a bunch of faceless minions, but a leader of a small gang of petty thieves and criminals. The inspiration was the Artful Dodger, so I tried Jack Dawkins, but that had been taken. I swapped to Jack Wild, which was the name of the child actor who played the role in the black-and-white musical version of Oliver I grew up with, and is arguably a "better" name. It was not taken, which surprised me, but I'm very happy with that.
The ONLY time I've ever used numbers was substituting a capital I for a lowercase L for 2 alternate-power-versions of MY OWN characters, since the game doesn't use serifs in text. I'd never do it to "steal" someone else's name.
There's really no need to pretend there aren't perfectly good names out there. If you can't be Shadow Lord, well, why would you want to be? Try some alternate words, try tweaking the substance a bit. I'm sure you can find something perfectly lovely (like Sparkdance!) that no one else is using. -
Quote:I'm in your exact boat with my Warshade. She has moments of absolute "FREAKING YEAH TAKE THAT!" but I end up really furiously frustrated with her 90% of the time I play her. It makes me even angrier that I LOVE hybrid/form shifting classes, and have done really well with them in other games, making the fluid playstyle really shine. But for some reason, I CANNOT get her to work for me.After a particularly fun mission of deaths and sheer, unenjoyable pain, I've come to the conclusion that as much as I love my Dual Pistols/Mental Manipulation Blaster, Fear Trigger?
The way she plays really sets my teeth on edge.
I love the costume, I love the concept and the powers behind the concept, but the powers themselves I just hate. I personally find Dual Pistols to be poor in damage and secondary effects, long in animation time and rooting, and Mental Manipulation I've never seemed to get along with. (Same with Psi Blast on a blaster, actually, which is why my Psi/Mental got deleted.)
I don't -want- to delete her. I want to enjoy playing her, but I just seem unable to.
What characters might you happen to have that you love, yet hate?
Part of it is simply lag - the game plays choppy for me periodically, and if it's when I'm on her, forget it. A second's lag on a shift or a power kills me, end of story.
She's level 35 and I've dragged her that far kicking and screaming. I'm sure that if I PuGged big teams, I'd love her more, but 99% of my playtime is spent in a duo or trio, and we just haven't been able to make her work. I won't delete her, but I pretty much can't play her with enjoyment, which makes me sad.
Luckily, because I love the *character,* I've rerolled her as a Fire/ corruptor, recolored her blasts purple, brought her hero-side, and now I get to enjoy the character again... just not that AT. -
It'll probably be a combination of taking primary powers earlier, the stealth pool to stack LOTGs in, Leadership on my controllers/defenders/corruptors/dominators that didn't have room for it in their build before, and seeing if I can move stuff around to take Tough/Weave or Medicine on a couple of others.
I'm using Mids and putting the slots I'd be using on Health/Fitness into Rest and Sprint to count them "used" and out of the way. I pretty much just used Health/fitness as a spot to park procs before - 3 health, 2-3 stamina - so we'll see what I actually end up doing as far as re-slotting them. I do wish we could get a temp version of Mid's with inherent fitness, but doing it this way works just fine, if you don't need the math to be 100%. -
Quote:You no longer need money to get as many LOTG recharges as you want. Run hero/villain tips and morality missions, get 2 A-merits, get a LOTG recharge. Repeat until you don't want any more.If you had the money, you could take Stealth, Manoeuvres and Combat Jumping and put in 3 Luck of the Gambler +7.5% Global Recharge enhancements in the basic free slot.
That's 22.5% more recharge.
I know some people really hate the market, so just slipping that in before the "OMG EBIL MARKETEERS STEAL MY IOS!" -
Quote:This is the only concern that I have. It would be AWESOME if they'd re-work the respec process so that your power trays don't end up full of every single temp power or vet inherent you have and your actual powers are all jumbled up or pushed off the trays. I can really deal with the rest of the respec process just fine, but what it does to the power trays is awful >.<Oh god, yes. Some may recall my avatar which featured "No More Respecs" because I hate doing them so much. Lower levels are no big deal, but anything in the mid-20s on up is just a serious pain in the glutes. I have a level 50 Blaster that I haven't respecced since 2005 because I just can't face doing so, even though replacing all his standard SOs with the new IOs would make him at least 150% better.

I updated the video and sound card drivers... I haven't been able to locate a safe download location for the ATI HD Audio rear output drivers.

Quote:I love BaB for the same reason. I never start in Atlas - I remember back when the RPers used to shun Atlas and Galaxy Park was the RP hangout (back before the PDP and then Pocket D) so starting in Galaxy was a much quieter, friendlier experience without the constant sewer and PLing spam... still is, come to think of it.Who would be your personal favorite trainer ingame. Redside, Blueside or Greyside. Is it the look of the character? Maybe it's the powers and lore?
Does your toon have a connection with them?
Mine would be Ms. Liberty in Atlas. She's the 1st one I trained at and will always stick out in my mind as 'trainer'
I even take my 50's back to her to level up that one last time.
<3 BaB -
Quote:Um, no... all my Defenders I consider Offenders, because... well, this.."Offenders" implies more than "doesn't heal" (since "uses heals" isn't what defines Defenders), but rather implies Defenders who abandon and do not use their primary, choosing instead to focus on their secondary.
Quote:See, and I thought it meant that it was a Defender (that means using the primary) that actually uses and EMBRACES their secondary, going for offense when in doubt. Someone who would play a Kinetics or a Rad but prolly not an Empath because it won't boost THEIR damage output... most of the powers are other targeted.
Instead of standing back and letting everyone else fight and "saving endurance" for when the primary needs to be fired off, whatever that primary is, my Offenders are in there, using their secondary to help kill and debuff the baddies IN ADDITION to using my primaries liberally where appropriate.
I also have an Emp offender. If you have not seen someone play an Empath to their full abilities, but only those "healors" who are in the back rocking the aura, then I have pity.
And yes, I have been yelled at by people for daring to use my attacks when people are at full health with regen and recovery auras on, fort on the whole team, and AB on a blaster or another offender, and people lose their MINDS that I'm wasting End that could be saved in case they need a heal. This is on my Emp, of course - no one complains that Fluffy and I trigger Twilight Grasp off quite a bit as part of a debuff cycle
People who play their Defenders just for the primaries are just as stupid as those who play just for the secondaries. Defenders are probably the most powerful AT in the game. It's just a really lucky thing that most people don't play them well enough to get them a nerf! -
Quote:Yeah, hostages are not releasing until everything their captors "summoned" vanish, which sadly includes crap like Decoy Phantasms and caltops. Caltrops? Really? :POne more bug Castle if your still reading is the following. If you free a hostage and the hostage is being guarded by someone who summons a suedo-pet or a decoy phantasm, the hostage will not leave once freed unless the suedo pet despawns. In some cases this is bad because the hostage takes damage from the suedo pet until it despawns. Some hostages or helper npcs barely have hp to begin with but if they are sitting in caltrops for like 5 minutes they have almost none by the time it despawns allowing them to become free to follow you even though they been freed 5 minutes ago.
Also ER, there are defenders and doms with CC :P
Back to what Castle said, while I agree it's a neat idea, I don't think the application works here. I wouldn't have a problem with the fleeing if:
The guy lost his morale so he was fleeing into the next spawn, either to join it or to bring it to you, because he clearly needs backup.
The guy lost his morale so he was fleeing OFF of the map and out of the mission, counting as a defeat.
The guy lost his morale so he runs to some distant corner of the map and cowers there crying and does not return to his spawn point.
Any of those would be sensible, if still annoying. Instead we have this "where is he GOING? Is he going to get a soda?" run-away and wander slowly back behavior.
I also agree that anything above yellow-con/Lt should NOT get runaway behavior. Whites and below, minions, ok. But bosses and red cons? Really? -
Quote:That is complete, total and utter win. My hat is off to you, sir!Let's not go down that road. I actually had an ERP pest bugging me whenever I was on a certain character until I bought the Science booster and scared him off by changing in front of him and returning his advances.
I went from this
...
To this
That's how I use it. My plant/thorns dryad dom needs a lot of hydration while she's throwing those seeds and vines all over. She's constantly chugging that bottle of water, and no it's not Enriche when she does. *shrug*
