Each app running has up to a 2GB chunk of memory that it thinks it has all to itself (32-bit Windows, sand /3GB flag). That memory can be in actual system memory or in the swap file. So the swap file can be as large as the sum of the memory requirements of all the apps running.
Windows defaults the swap file size to 1.5 times your system memory and can grow it from there if needed, unless you set the swap file to be a fixed size. Back in the early days of the game, pre I6/CoV, I recommended to set the swap file to a 2GB fixed size as a way to improve performance since most players back then had only 1GB of system memory and knew well enough to exit the rest of their apps (browser) when they played the game to conserve memory.
The swap file is still used even if you have enough system memory for all the apps running in the system. Windows will swap out infrequently accessed memory to the swap file so real system memory can be used immediately if needed or as part of the disk cache. -
Quote:Two old adages come to mind about poorly documented code.Speaking from an outside (non designer) looking in, I often times hear designers bemoaning the lack of documentation when working on older content, and this is not isolated to CoH/Paragon.
"Of course it's not documented, why do you think it's called "code"?"
"If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand." -
So did anyone propose this time?

Some of those pieces remind me of Major Matt Mason's spacesuit. Thumbs up for accordion tubing details.

I was getting an "internal integrity" hang once the new manifest posted. It also reported back to CIT that my level 14 character is level 50 when I switched over to my 50.
Very odd. -
There are a couple of threads with dev responses about this. One reason given is keeping a reason to run that TF.

Hey BillZ.
I believe some of the UM graphic settings have a portion running on the CPU side as well. I believe both hard shadows and water reflections use the CPU to determine which objects cast hard shadows from and which objects to reflect in water (I believe the World Detail slider affects this as well as render depth). -
Quote:Yes but why bother?Yep.
The best you can do on an SSD is a freespace consolidation.
What you see in a defrag map isn't reality when it comes to an SSD. Sectors are remapped as files are marked deleted as a means to equalize the number of write and erase cycles across flash memory. Some SSD controllers do data compression to use fewer flash memory sectors yet report the uncompressed number of sectors to the file system, again to conserve write/erase cycles. Then you have varying allocation strategies that can later help with garbage collection, etc. The long and the short of it is what the file system thinks files are arranged on the SSD isn't.
And the whole point about defragging a conventional hard drive is to reduce the number of head seeks which significantly impact read speeds. In an SSD, seek times are 1000 times faster (it's just the controller overhead instead of a mechanical movement of the read/write head). -
My points come the 1st day of my billing cycle according to my account history.

AMD has several Fusion series, A series is their top end, E series is their low power model targeted at netbook class devices.
Well the A6 and A8 are full blown Athlon II X4 cores with turbo boost while the E-450 is a much simpler dual core design with less memory cache and only single channel memory.
Same goes with the GPU side of the chips. The A6 has 320 shaders, the A8 has 400, the E-450 has only 80.
Overall in gaming we are looking at around 3 times the gaming performance with an A8-3500m over an E-450.
So do you want a Netbook for it's small size and battery life or are you simply looking for an inexpensive laptop?
Comparison of the E-350 and the A8-3500m. The E-450 is a refresh of the E-350 allowing faster memory and runs at slightly higher clock speed. -
Well there are always the AMD Fusion A series laptops. Ones built around the A6-3400M or A8-3500M CPU/GPU combo. Yes they tend to be larger than netbooks (15" screens) and you could look at the graphics as integrated but they are considerably more powerful than the integrated graphics found in previous generations.
You can find a few for just under $500 on NewEgg. -
Since he's a F2P/Premium player he'll be stuck using SOs/HOs like in the good ol' days.
Regen was once super awesome but those days have long since past. Now it's reasonable but as others have pointed out, a good amount of the regen comes from two click heals, one that'll give you back, when fully slotted, about 1/2 your HP every 30 seconds and the other will boost your max hit points for a time as well as heal a chunk of XP.
Willpower is a little bit of everything, defense/damage resistance/regen. It's also either auto or toggle on and forget.
And personally, the redraw isn't all that annoying. The one regen character I have is a Kat/Regen and frankly I don't even notice. However there have been times when I've been defeated because I forgot to click my heals while in scrapper lock. -
Well since the series always had injokes about cult movies and the like what could they do to drive a nail into the series? I'll start.
It was all a dream ala Newhart. -
I get 0% if I just bring it up and minimize it.
If I go to the CoH page in the launcher, that takes a chunk of CPU time for who knows what, can't just be the rotating graphic, can it?
So yes, you aren't crazy, the launcher is using a ridiculous amount of resources simply "idling". Guess that's just another good reason to configure it to go away while playing. Someone there (NCSoft/Paragon) should take a good hard look as to why this happens.
CPU % will parked at each page you can get to via the buttons on the left:
News page - 0%
Store page - 0%
CoH page - whoa! not trivial
Lineage II page - 0% (not on my machine)
Guild War page - 0% (not on my machine)
CoH Beta - 0% (not currently on my machine)
Aion - 0% (not on my machine) -
I liked Outbreak as it was very low key. As my first 3D MMO, I was glad I wasn't dropped into the middle of a fight and had time to tweak my key settings, graphic options, look over the interface, as well as checking out other new characters materializing around to me.
If I was new today, the whole Galaxy City battle around me would concern me as I get bombarded by both a voice telling me to fight and popups I'm afraid to read while in battle. It's a little overwhelming. -
Not a lot of mac people roam this forum and unfortunately for you, the Mac portion of the site in Players Help isn't open to F2P/Premium players. However you may find your answer already posted there.

Honestly I have no idea where some people get these ideas from.
That, the Asus G72Gx, is a reasonably nice gaming laptop and the Geforce GTX 260M is still a very powerful GPU for laptops.
But heat build up can be an issue, so can outdated or broken/damaged video drivers.
We really need to see a CoHHelper output which will show hardware, drivers and game settings, and a Hijack This report which shows what's running beside the OS to get a more complete picture of your system. See the sticky post at the top of the board called "[Guide] Asking for technical help on the forum", it'll explain what to do. -
Also with Moffet's Doctor, each of the two seasons has some arching b-plot running through them that gets resolved in the end. But there's always a few loose ends left to explore.

What's going to happen at some point the academy will give Andy an Oscar in recognition for all of his work. Of course that would be years down the road.

Oh, and this is pretty much the only SFW strip
quite a few of them are actually outright evil... but still great fun -
Bummed that A&E snuffed the live talk show after, it was kinda fun. They replaced it with a reality show set in Kevin Smith's comic book shop.
