  1. True. However popmenus like other "features" accessible via insertion into the DATA folder is completely unsupported. Maybe it has stability issues related to size or number of nested levels. The only place I can think of where the devs may use it is the emotes popup button next to the chat bar (please enlighten me if it's officially used somewhere else in the game, I'm curious).

I've seen code in real life that works fine on a specific set of expected data only to malfunction when it's fed data that should work but exceeded some internal limitation due to it's design. I'm also would not be surprised by memory leaks. IIRC the game is written in C where memory cleanup for all execution paths is very much dependent on the individual developer as well as manual methods for manipulating data structures such as link lists were a bug could "lose" parts of the list forever into the allocated memory pool.

Do I think it's a problem they can track down if they look into it, sure. Do I think memory leaks caused by user generated popmenues will ever appear on a coders todo list, sadly doubtful. It's my impression that the number of client programmers are rather small when compared to the rest of the staff and after 8+ years parts of the code can be quite the nightmare to work on without accidentally breaking something else so they pick their battles wisely.
  2. Yes they did. I remember a few posts where players complained how unfair that they lost slots. But anyone can claim that.

I do remember the time Positron unleashed his orbital nukes onto AE abusers way back when. That generated a lot of debate on the fairness of the punishments.
  3. The point T is you have to pay to get those channels. SyFy doesn't use the "public airways" like ABC, CBS, etc. therefore aren't as strict. It doesn't mean that SyFy still doesn't tweak imported shows like Lost Girl, it's just they don't have to as much and they still try to cover their butts with warning bumps when the action gets a little hot in an episode.

SyFy (back when it was SciFi) tried to show the Canadian science fiction show Odyssey 5 and after all the bleeps and edits dropped the show only after a couple of episodes because it proved impractical to show (plus the added expense to edit the episodes). However this series was made for Showtime and therefore didn't need to worry since it's a subscription channel versus a bundle of cable channels you get with extended cable/sat.
  4. Your tests show that it only takes two openings of your 40 meg popmenu to crash and five times with a 10 meg popmenu. Hope you can understand that why I leaped to the idea that size may be the problem in this case.

No, its bytes. Since the game was quite playable on dial-up back in the day, which maxed out at around 5 kilobytes per second down, those numbers are bytes per second.

There was an update years ago (5 or so) that significantly changed to amount of data the server sent. At the time there was a lot of graphs generated and presented in the forums showing the actual in game data rates during certain events and in certain zones showing maximum dial-up rates being exceeded, sometimes by a large amount. It wasn't until Freedom when the game's minimum requirements drop dial-up as an option.

When players come looking for help they are looking for other players who know facts and not players who include their "uninformed opinions" in their responses.

Your crack on screen resolution is like a kid in auto shop commenting that the problem the class is trying to diagnose is related to the tire size and rims because he's never seen those size tires and that model car before.

We are trying to triage players problems here. Sadly the PC as a gaming platform isn't plug and play like a console. This has been the truth going as far back as the DOS days when gamers had custom boot configurations for each game to squeeze out enough free memory to run the latest Wing Commander or SimCity 2 or Crusader: No Remorse without it crashing.

That's why we ask for both the CoHHelper and HiJack This reports. We are looking for 3rd party utilities running that we have seen causing problems in the past. We want to see if the system is a laptop or desktop since updating graphic drivers can be a real problem for certain brands of laptops or that laptops more likely have overheating problems than desktops.

And even with all that we still see cases where one player using video card X is having horrible framerates while 10 others with the same or less powerful card have the game running smooth as silk and we don't know why that one player has so much trouble. We want others to play this game we enjoy so much.

There have been players in the past who chimed in the Tech forums whose solution to all problems is a format/reinstall of Windows. Sure, that'll likely work every time since it gets rid of all the accumulated crud that may have been left behind by dozens of game's copy protection schemes, multiple video driver installs, overclocking utilities, etc. but the rest of us are looking for less drastic measures first.

And while your intentions to help others are noble and honorable, there is nothing wrong saying nothing when you can't add anything constructive to the conversation. None of us regulars on the Tech forum know everything, can diagnose every problem and that's why we don't chime in on every new thread with our "opinion". If we've seen this problem before and remember the answer (or gosh, search for forum for the previous discovered answer since none of us are Data) sure we will answer. If we haven't we may ask more questions. And if we simply don't have a clue, we usually don't say a thing.
  7. That's my secret Cap', I'm always angry.
  8. It's just cheap. Most 720P TVs use a 1366x768 panel. The resolution is a compromise taking the vertical resolution of the old standard 1024x768 and use that as the 9 of a 16:9 panel.
  9. I think movie will reflect the book as well as Starship Troopers did.
  10. Lost Girl is Canadian. They aren't as uptight as the US with what is shown on TV.

See Dot's mono boob in the first two seasons of Reboot when ABC was involved versus the next season after ABC dropped out. There are other "unusual" objections from ABC when they were involved with the series. Needless to say the third season was awesome.

  12. Sadly they implemented multiple builds the same time they "fixed" PvP in Issue 13. My biggest problem with pre-I13 PvP was needing to have a character built for PvP vs PvE. If they had simply added the alternative build system I bet they would have seen an uptick in PvP play without the need to "balance" all the ATs.

I actually liked the whole Rock-Paper-Scissors model which added a fun element to team vs team play.
  13. Bring up the netgraph in the game; /netgraph 1

See the numbers next to Send (to the server) and Recv (from the server)? That's in bytes per second. AoEs set off by teammates in large crowds can spike those numbers, sometimes significantly enough to cause problems with low bandwidth connections. Anything from rubberbanding to being mapserved as the netgraph goes solid green with yellow and red bands.
  14. Here is a post from Microsoft Developers Network that may help you.

How to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 on Windows Vista

Yes and it works with Win 7 as well.
  15. Why the heck do you have a 49 meg popfile!!!??? Yea, that could be a problem.
  16. It's also why you will find monitors that are 1680x1050 and 1440x900, 16:10 was the computer industry widescreen standard until 16:9 panels flooded the market due to HDTV. These are all 16:10.

Sorry if I came across as argumentative or something. I assumed you knew "odd" was a personal opinion.
And this is why some of us react badly to your posts. You considering something "odd" doesn't mean it's unusual to those of us who are better informed but the way you phrase your answers makes it sound like you are knowledgeable on the subject when in fact you aren't. You should understand how that can irritate those of us who are in fact experts.
  17. Thundercats - Okay for a Part 1. So who do the Kittens bring back to annoy the birds?

Young Justice: Invation - Okay, I called it. I also sort of called the reason for the Ms M and Conner break up. I only thought they had to brainwash Aqualad to prevent someone from scanning him. Now that Artemis is "dead", will Cheshire choose to retaliate? Will Ms M mind rip him the first chance she gets before realizing the truth? Good to see Carol Ferris and "Pieface" in YJ.

The Legend of Korra - I imagine that Amon's ability allows him to resist other forms of bending. Well know that Korra started to see visions of Aang, will she go into the Avatar state when Amon tries to remove her bending? Or does he succeed and the 2nd half of the series is her quest to recover her abilities and allow her to restore bending to others? Also her kidnap and recovery is going to strain Mako and Asami's relationship. So do they both try to make him choose or is it going to be a catfight?

    Prometheus

The whole inclusion of the Predators into the Alien mythos was a side effect of a single prop in the Predators 2 movie, a Xenomorph skull. From there the whole AvP concept spawn into comics, video games and eventually a pair of so-so movies. It's a studio construct to join two somewhat successful series. It's the Freddy Vs Jason of the SciFi genre.

It's like ET being in the Star Wars prequel or the Enterprise and Serenity appearing in the new BSG so somebody proceeds to build an entire mythos around those cameos and them get upset when their creators contradict the fandom. Heck Batman fought the Predators in comics. So did Superman. Lets make that cannon.
  19. THOR 2 Recruits Zachary Levi for the Warriors Three

I can see him pull it off. Interesting that he was offered the roll in the first Thor movie but turned it down due to Chuck.
  20. Saw nearly all of them that year. Didn't see "Fast Times" until last year. I remember some underage kid trying to get me to buy him a ticket to see "The Road Warrior".
  21. Okay, this sounds fun. Haven't seen a western take on a MechaGodzilla-like film before.
  22. Unexpected downtime due to the servers crashing? That could drive a lot of folk to check out the forums on a Saturday night.

  24. I'm guessing you don't have IOs "on" since you aren't a subscription player and probably haven't played enough before to have them permanently unlocked. They are there, just greyed out and non functional.

I suggest you check out the following topics at ParagonWiki.

Account - as a former subscriber you are a premium player

Paragon Rewards Program - Lifetime unlock of the Invention System is a Tier 7 benefit (27 or more Reward Tokens)

    Reward Token

Also you can choose to spend 160 Paragon Points to buy a monthly unlock of the Invention System. The Auction House is also off limits but in unlocked at Tier 4 (8 reward tokens) or by spending another 160 Paragon Points for a monthly unlock.

Another thing you could, assuming you hadn't used it already, is to switch to your secondary build at a trainer and build a SO only version of your character. This way if you resubscribe or activate the Invention System in other ways you still have your IO build.

    Of course resubscribing reactivates everything.
