Should have also limited it to live action TV shows. Otherwise you can also toss in Transformers and My Little Pony.
  2. Father Xmas still has one Iron Will for nostalgia sake.
  3. I'm going to reply to you privately about this later, in an belated attempt to keep this thread on topic.

    Edit: PM sent.
  4. I saw this yesterday on the magazine rack at my library (cover story was Doctor Who).

I guess if you define a cult show as one that develops a grass roots following to the point of having gatherings, mailing lists, dedicated fan sites not associated with either the production company or network, then I can see that list as legitimate. Whether or not the show was/is a big ratings hit then doesn't factor into it (like Lost).
  5. And here I was going to ask about their burgers.
  6. First of all you may want to look at NewEgg.ca (since your location states Canada I'll price everything in Canadian dollars). That 9800GT model is available there for only $60 after a $10 rebate. A modern AMD equivalent is the HD 6670 with GDDR5 memory but that card is closer to $100.

Most motherboards are 8.5" wide so the 9800GT isn't that much longer, there are much higher end cards that are much longer. As for the card's height that's a standard height card (as oppose to a low-profile card that could be used in a slimline case).

As for performance it should be able to handle minimal Ultramode settings (which is so pretty) at over 30FPS for under 1.5 megapixel resolutions (not 1920x1080).

Building a computer for $400-500 is tough. DIY isn't really about being cheaper than a store bought, it's more about having the power to allocate the money on the parts you care about.

As for a power supply, it is one of the items you should not go cheap on, or at least too cheap. This Corsair PSU is a respected model that's currently on sale for only $30 after rebate and promo code. It has 28 amps at 12 volts. This Antec one is a bit more expensive (on sale but no rebate) for $50 and can put out 32 amps at 12 volts. Oh, if you don't know, the reason that video card manufactures mention the amps at 12 volts is because; A) older PSUs may have a total output of over 400 watts but only have 18 amps available at 12 volts and B) the CPU and video card account for 80% or so of the watts used at 12 volts so you need to be sure the 12 volt side of the PSU can cover that.

You can get a nice basic Mid Tower ATX case for under $50. They may not be as easy to work in and have little niceties as the $75 cases but with your budget every $ counts. Rosewill has a nice $50-60 case (depending if it's on sale). Antec has their basic gamer case in that price range as well.

If you are able to salvage the hard drive and optical drive (if they aren't SATA you may have a problem reusing them, older PATA [ribbon cable] interfaces have been phased out) then all that's left is memory, the motherboard and CPU. Intel's Socket 1155 Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge CPUs are extremely game friendly, even the sub $100 CPUs since Intel finally came up with a way to lock down CPU and memory clock speed without the need to excessively damage the CPU by cutting it's memory cache to extremely low amounts to limit performance. AMD use to be able to hold on to the inexpensive side of DIY but the Sandy Bridge base "Pentium"s (Intel couldn't give up the name) can now match their prices while giving a higher performance upgrade path.

DDR3 memory is extremely cheap right now with a pair of 2GB DDR3-1333 memory (4GB in total) for less than $25. If you aren't using a 64-bit OS then any more than 4GB is pointless. Note than an OEM copy of 64-bit Win 7 is around $110, a pretty big chunk of such a small budget.

For a motherboard I would suggest one based on the Z77 chipset. They start, for an well thought of manufacturer, around $120-130 range. Expensive, relatively speaking, but provides a CPU/memory upgrade path that the less expensive H7x based motherboards can't provide.
  7. You don't need to delete and reinstall the game, just delete those files in the piggs folder, client.chksum in the City of Heroes folder, then run the NCLauncher and choose repair from the options you get when you right click on the City Of Heroes button on the left side of the launcher screen.

NCLauncher is the only way we have to get the game. While the staged install that allows you some limited play while it is installing is occasionally flaky, stalling out while downloading, just letting it install without trying to play the game does work. Of course I'm assuming you are trying to play it on a Windows PC and not a Mac or trying to get it to run under Linux. I only have experience with Windows.
  8. Sept 1st I believe.

Edit: Dang, missed it by that much.
  9. Generally giving a lazy person the answer as well as instructions how to look it up themselves in the future doesn't promote them learning because they got their answer so why bother remembering how to do it themselves in the future.

Now if you just gave them the instructions how to look it up themselves could teach those who possess some motivation while those who don't have that would complain why you didn't just give them the answer.

It's like the child shouting from the other room asking Mom or Dad how to spell something every couple of minutes while they are doing their homework. At some point you have to stop answering and drop a dictionary on their desk, otherwise they will never learn. Of course this is a bad example in today's society since nearly any device you type into has some level of spell checking, including this browser.
  10. But the new Marvel TV series is ABC. ABC is Disney. Disney owns Marvel. Fox "owns" Elektra (for now). So I don't think we'll be seeing Elektra on that show.
  11. Father Xmas

    Goodbye for now

You can solo on dial-up. Just stay away from zone events that draw lots of players or spawn a lot of critters (Troll Rave for one).
  12. With Nature Affinity coming out soon, I'm thinking a moss/mold/swamp themed character.

Yea but you can have four, which is why I left that adaption out.
  14. And then 12.8 gets released.
  15. Fox Exec: "Hmmm, hot Catwoman in latest Batman film. Hey we have the rights to a hot superhero female, maybe we can do something with that."
  16. author of The Stainless Steel Rat and Bill, the Galactic Hero series as well as the novel that was loosely adapted into the movie Soylent Green. He was 87.

  17. I've always considered that there is an intentional quality to make something camp, making a genre that's not normally a comedy into one. I'm annoyed that a lot of youths consider dramas from the 60s and 70s as, by default, camp, as oppose to the accepted style of the day. I'm talking shows like Dragnet, Emergency and Perry Mason.

Greatest American Hero was camp while The Incredible Hulk wasn't. GAH took the superhero TV genre and played it for laughs.

Nolan's Batman is definitely not played for laughs.
  18. I remember back in the day when Xmas was teamed with another tanker and a Fire Controller street sweeping Freakshow bosses in Crey's Folly. The tanks would get their attention while the Controller unleashed a mess of Fire Imps that simply devoured them.

Reminded me of the ghostly scrubbing bubbles from the end of Two Towers.
  19. So now your SR scrapper as the effective defense against Incarnate content that an SOed SR scrapper had against the original content (no I haven't done the calculations, it's a SWAG) and you feel that the devs are forcing you to take another defense power to compensate? I don't blame the devs because they insist that content need to be at least challenging.
  20. ParagonWiki: Issues

Yes you missed the post 50 content additions, called Incarnates, that's subscription only post Issue 21 when the game went to it's hybrid F2P/Subscription model.

They've also tweaked the various power pools so they're available early including rearranging the order of the powers in the four travel pools so you can take Fly/Teleport/Super Speed/Super Jump at Level 4. Also now everyone gets all the Fitness powers at Level 2. Characters that took some Fitness powers before that change was made will need to respec to get all of them. Also the Ancillary and Patron Power Pools now have a 5th power and are available at Level 35 now.

Galaxy City has been destroyed and is now the Tutorial for both Blue and Red sides. Dark Astoria is now Level 50 only and is for Incarnate content.

Coming back as a non-subscriber will have limits on what was available to you. It can include lockouts of certain ATs, use of IOs and consignment house, type of drops, INF limit, which types of chat are available and some mission content in the newer zones. See ParagonWiki: Account for an overview.

You also may have missed the graphics engine upgrade referred to as Ultra Mode which added reflections and improved shadows/lighting to the game IF your rig can handle it. This was part of a multistage rollout of Going Rogue, which revolves around starting and playing your character on Praetoria Earth. It also added the ability to go from Hero to Villain and vice versa as well as starting your character with any of the stock ATs, Hero or Villain. Praetoria was designed to show off the new Ultra Mode graphics as well as a set of zones that aren't divided by War Walls.

    Welcome back.

  23. I think it was only 9999. Issue 2 made it 5 99,999.
  24. Well sadly most non-comic book fans consider the concept of a costume superhero as automatically camp. Actually anybody dressed too differently than the general public is considered strange and probably should be avoided. I think Iron-man got a bit of a pass by the general public because his armor is his power, not just something to disguise himself or instill fear in the cowardly hearts of criminals. Thor on the other hand would get beer cans thrown at him by drunk teenagers out joyriding.
