What exactly is Superior Conditioning?

I'm was respecing my level 38 claws/ninjutsu stalker. Suddenly I ran into this power. Is it a toggle power? And how beneficial is it?

Superior Conditioning is a static +5 Endurance added to your bar. So, instead of having 100 Endurance, you would now have 105. It's a passive, always-on, power.

Paragon Studios, thanks for all you've done. You've made this a great game, and a great community. I see this as six years well-spent. NCSoft, I'm seriously disappointed in you. This is not how you get or keep customers.

The big benefit of this is that it effectively increases your endurance recovery. Recovery gives you back 6.67% of your maximum endurance every few seconds. Recovery bonuses decrease the time between pulses while Max Endurance bonuses increase the size of the pulse.

When the ancillary power pools were proliferated to villains, stalkers gained access to the Body Mastery pool. The scrappers' version of Body Mastery includes the Conserve Power power. Back then, scrappers didn't have access to the Energy Aura powerset, but stalkers did, and back then, Energy Aura also included Conserve Power.

The developers didn't want certain charas to be able to learn two copies of the same power, so the stalkers' version of Body Mastery was changed to include a passive power instead of Conserve Power. By now, Energy Aura was proliferated to scrappers and also got a makeover, losing Conserve Power for Energize in the process, but the ancillary power pools weren't changed.

Superior Conditioning works very similar to the accolade power The Atlas Medallion, it increases your maximum endurance (unslotted) by 5 (and therefore also boosts your recovery slightly). If your stalker has endurance problems, this power might help you. Also, if you don't want Focused Acurracy, Superior Conditioning can be an easy prerequisite for Physical Perfection, which increases both your regeneration and your recovery.

It's also slottable for end mod, so it can give up to 9.86 End on 3x +3 EndMod SOs, or up to 13 End with 6x 50+5 EndMod IOs and Agility Core Paragon Alpha.

The same is true for Tanks/Brutes, due to both Energy Aura and Electric Armor. Stalkers also got Superior Conditioning in Weapons Mastery to replace Caltrops.

Brutes yes, but Tankers have Conserve Power. They had Conserve Power since long before they got Electric Armor (and it was proliferated at the same time Conserve Power was replaced with Energize).

Stalker Weapon Mastery has Physical Perfection, not Superior Conditioning.

Yes, that's what I said.

Just like Scrappers/Stalkers have Conserve Power/Superior Conditioning, so do Tanks/Brutes. Though I do see how you interpreted it that way.

Oh, I see. I parsed that sentence differently. My bad.

Technically, I should have used "Tankers:Brutes" to show the relationship, but it's too late for that now. :P

It can also be slotted the the performance shifter proc for even more endurance goodness.

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments!

Also, these and other helpful tips can be gleaned by reading the power's info in the actual game.

That's just mean. Sometimes the definitions in the game need to be a bit more clear and can be confusing.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

It's only mean if you allow it to be mean. If you don't know how to read power info, then...

"Your Superior Condition has increased your maximum endurance by 5%." - Brutes

"Your Superior Condition has increased your maximum endurance by 5%." - Stalkers

Isn't going to make sense or be confusing in any way?

Shockingly some people read that and are still not sure so they come here to confirm. No biggie info conveyed.

"This grocery store has increased your maximum apples by 5%."

Hey guys, can you tell me what this means? Do you have more apples or something?

I used to respond like this to when I was younger. I mean it is pretty clear "to me" and maybe to you, but to the OP, they must have been unsure. That is why they asked a question that seems so clear to others.

To hammer them about being unsure is the mean part.

I'm not hammering! If I were hammering I'd have called him names or something.

I'm merely surprised at a lack of (seemingly) basic reading comprehension. Is it a problem with the concept of percentages? Is it a problem with reading in general? Is this something that should be addressed in the way the power details are described in game? Would adding something like:

"Your Superior Condition has increased your maximum endurance by 5%. What this means is, you will get exactly 5 more endurance, if your endurance is exactly 100, because 5% of 100 is 5. If your endurance is more than exactly 100, you'll get more endurance. It will also improve your recovery rate, as a side bonus. If you put Endurance Modification enhancements into this power, the modification of your endurance (the 5% we mentioned earlier) will be enhanced, or "increased.""

help this issue and make the gaming experience more enjoyable to everyone?

I thought it was pretty clear from the beginning the guy was "unsure" and wanted to confirm something he may have been thinking.

When he asked if it was a toggle power I think it was pretty clear that it was "uncertainty" vs the suggested lack of reading comprehension or conceptual difficulties.

I don't think any other explanation is needed since he already thanked people for their responses that apparently cleared up his uncertainty.

I think asking if it was a toggle power actually proves that he didn't even bother reading the power info in the first place, making my questions about reading comprehension moot.

Increases maximum endurance by 5% may be a pretty clear statement, but someone unfamiliar with the mechanics of recovery wouldn't immediately see the real benefits of increased maximum endurance. This forum seems to me to be the appropriate place to ask about such things.

Well, if it were to say this, I'd imagine that it would be MORE confusing, because it's wrong, so people would be wondering why they weren't seeing those results.

Superior Conditioning increases your BASE endurance by 5%, as do all other bonuses. Technically, the bonuses are added together, then applied to the base. So if I've got more than 100 Endurance before taking Superior Conditioning, I'll still only get +5 End (before slotting).

The only way unslotted Superior Conditioning would give anything other than 5 points of End is if your base Endurance were other than 100. The only ATs with non-100 base End aRe Arachnos Soldiers* and they don't have access to Superior Conditioning.

*I haven't played an Arachnos Soldier in ages. It might be their Base Recovery that's higher, in which case, the above is moot.

Ignoring that, some people aren't intimately familiar with all the mechanics of the game. Some of them - to borrow from Sister Flame - just "push 1 2 3 4 until the bad guys fall over". Maybe the OP understood what the +5% meant, but had an incomplete understanding of the Endurance mechanics, so didn't know how it applied.
Whether you meant it or not, your first response sounded snarky and sarcastic, and did come off as condescending.

Well good! My meaning was clear, then. It was fully intended to be snarky, sarcastic and condescending.

Asking if a power is a toggle, when a simple glance at the power info tells you it's not, is not "misunderstanding the dynamic and principle of endurance recovery." It's a simple case of not reading the power's easily available information.

If the question had been "With this increase in base endurance, will it help my recovery?" I would not have felt compelled to respond in such a negative way. I just can't stand lazy and stupid, and I'm a big fan of LMGTFY.

As such: Here's your answer.
