I happen to pop over to it just then. Clark on the floor with three very scared looking friends aiming green kryptonite tipped arrows/bolts at him in the smoking ruins of the Watchtower shouting "Lois it's me, tell them it's me".

    Let's see;

    Supernatural
    Vampire Diaries
    Hellcats
America's Next Top Model (they must be reanimated skeletons)

They've been dealing with the dark side for a while now.
  3. Father Xmas

    Super Granny

I could swear this was mentioned here before.
  4. I'm going to guess not as well. Try to find a laptop top with a discreet GPU. Use the ordered list along the side of the links below to gauge the performance relative to your current laptop, RIP. Even what passes of low end today, like the GeForce G210M or G310M are on par with the 8600M GS. Some is said about the Mobility HD 5450 or 5470.

    From NotebookCheck

    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
    AMD ATI Radeon HD 4250
  5. Sorry, didn't notice the relative size of D:, should have guessed it was HP's backup image.

I was too tired to post links last night.

    Drive Defrag Utilities
    Auslogics Disk Defrag
    Defraggler
PageDefrag - didn't mention this last night, it's a page file defragmenter (plus other low level files), best used after you defrag your drive once. It will do it's work the next time you reboot. Normally you just need to do it once in a long while.

    Disk Utilities
    CCleaner
    WinDirStat
  6. Both of you are suffering from filled hard drives. Patching in this game does a number on pigg files in terms of fragmenting them to hell and back. With 17% free from Galactron and only 5% on C and 16% on D for Godlike_NA the built in Windows defragger will complain about lack of space.

I recommend either Auslogics Disk Defrag or Defragger, Auslogics is much faster. Both also can be used to defrag a folder which will come in handy after each patch however either will take a while with your current drives that full. Think about a little house cleaning first. CCleaner is good for flushing misc garbage that builds up over time. WinDirStat will scan your drives and visually show you which folders are taking up all the space.

It may not seem like that this is the entire cause of your loss in framerate but having your hard drives constantly seeking to find the data the game is trying to load on demand can really slow things down. You may also want to pop up Windows Task Manager, set it to be "On Top" and see what else is demanding your CPU's attention while playing.
  7. nVidia basically gave up on AGP once they went to Dx10 compatible cards. There are a few from ATI over at NewEgg. The HD 4650 or 4670 seems to be it in power. I'm guessing twice as fast, maybe more.

Problem is a single core P4, extreme or not, is comparatively weak nowadays, do you really want to poor money, $80-125 (60-105 after rebate), into an old rig?
  8. For those who did hear already or saw the thread over on Virtue, there was a mini-event a couple of weeks back and because of that, and with friends in the right place, it got mentioned in the NY Post's gaming section and because of that, over at Massively.

It's not the NY Times or the Washington Post but beggars can't be choosers for free mainstream publicity.
  9. It's a fun film. I also enjoyed the bonus features on the DVD.

I enjoyed the interview with Neil Gaiman and laughed when he got to the part where he felt like apologizing to the set builders about the pirate ship because it was just a throwaway idea in the novel and now they had to build it.
  10. Then of course you have the few players who will boot you from a team, or simply pester you because your character isn't pimped out enough bonuses.

Because otherwise you can 6 slot the power you took at level 49.
  12. The 10 enhancement limit on saving is directly related to the fact to the limit on our character's enhancement bar. If you increase the number to 20 then the bar also needs to change and right now it's designed to be just like our power bars. Of course it was designed before we had an inventory system/window so maybe the devs could look into moving them over there.

However that also means the power/enhancement screen needs to be changed to incorporate the "new" method of storing enhancements.

So it's not a trivial change.

    I'm assuming a 3 X 2GB is also superior to 2 X 4GB dual?
I assume so. Only when you exceed using all 6GB would 8GB but dual channel could be faster, only because once you exceed your system memory, memory is then paged on and off the hard drive which is at least 100 times slower than actual memory.

So should I be using DDR3-1066, 1333, 1600, or even 2200? The MB documentation says:
    Quote:
    Quote:
    1. 6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory(Note 1)
    2. Dual/3 channel memory architecture
    3. Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules
    4. Support for non-ECC memory modules
    5. Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
It does not show 1600 as a supported option, but it seems most popular. Is the higher number faster or better? Will I see any difference between 2200 and 1333 for example? I also had previously gone with CAS 7 over 8 or 9 since this was described as "latency". Is there bang for the buck there too?
When comparing two memory sticks with the same Cas number, the one with the higher DDR3- number is faster. When comparing two memory sticks with the same DDR3- number, the one with the lower Cas number is faster. When both are different, it gets a little fuzzy. Here is a comparison of different speed and timings on an i7 they did at Tom's Hardware, I linked to the first page of the normalized results. The results in each chart is ordered fastest to slowest. In their tests, DDR3-1600 Cas 8 was usually the victor.

Gigabyte is simply highlighting that fact they got a set of DDR3-2200 running on that board, it's just their marketing department calling attention to their top speed. The reviews I googled up for that motherboard showed them testing with DDR3-1600 memory.

Note that the i7-950, like all non Extreme versions of i7-9xx CPUs, "officially" only supports up to DDR3-1066 memory. Anything faster is unofficial and uses motherboard BIOS magic to achieve. Note you still have to go into the BIOS and tell it to use the DDR3-1600 profile (profiles are preset timings for various clock speeds stored on the memory stick itself, XMP profiles include voltage requirements) otherwise the memory will default to DDR3-1066 at 1.5 volts.

Yes, DDR3-1600 Cas 8 seems to be the sweet spot right now for fast memory. Most of Intel and AMD CPUs can handle this speed without problems. It wasn't too long ago when DDR3-1600 was over $100 a 2GB stick.

As for particular memory working or not working. The main things to consider are; it's DDR3; it's voltage requirement is 1.65 volts or less (so says Intel); and it's best to buy them in pretested groups of three. You can always look at the list of tested memory at Gigabyte but remember there is a lot of memory out there and motherboard manufacturers can't test all of them.

I personally would shy away from the Dominators simply because of their tall heatsink may get in the way of the CPU heatsink/fan. One problem with Mushkin is they don't support XMP profiles so you are forced to set all the timings and voltages yourself. G.Skill seems to get a lot of good reviews, and their price is reasonable.
  14. So lets see.

    1) Chloe Monster warned them not to trust the turtle aliens.

    2) Chloe Monster did something at some control hub.

    3) I'm betting Chloe Monster isn't going to do something that endangers herself.

So did she summon some more seed ships? Going to guess a half a dozen set to ramming speed will make short work of the control ship. Or did she took control of the seed ship the turtle aliens have and use that to ram the control ship.
  15. "You can have the paper when I'm DONE with it!"
  16. Well if it is Rularuu, we are going to need a whole lot more couples proposing.
  17. May have been his research in fixing the side effects of having an Intersect, instead of relying on the watch limiter. The "download" Chuck received at the end may have been a patch to counteract the brain damaging effects as well as counteracting the suppression.
  18. The clip in question is at IO9's review of the episode.

    Also...
"194 days since Wildfire was declared and 63 days since the disease went global."

Well it seems that it was localized for a long time before they lost containment. Space born ala Andromeda?

He got turned into the new Staff of Law.

They were the first serious fantasy series I've ever read since I preferred SciFi. I only read the first two series, I have little interest in the third series that came out 20 years later and isn't done yet.
  20. Back when I was in college our mainframe (yes it was a long time ago) was called Myron. It was replaced with a dual processor mainframe that was named Sibyl (spelling intentional). Students did most of their software development on them.

Today my school's top computer is on the Top500 super computer list, a 32K core, IBM Blue Gene series. It was in the top 10 when it went online 3 1/2 years ago, now it's not even in the top 100. Students now are required to use their own high end laptops preloaded with various engineering and math software. I assume the CS students get copies of Visual Studio for their projects.

Edit: BTW, I name my rigs after mecha, drives after anime characters.
  21. Sorry, should have said preferred rather than want. The i7-9xx series "officially" supports up to DDR3-1066 memory (don't worry, motherboard manufacturers have found ways to ignore this) so coupled with 4 cores and 8 threads, Intel decided that triple channel memory was the way to keep the CPU flush with bandwidth to system memory.

Two sticks will work but with a performance loss, see the last table on the page here. They only saw 3% drop in games between dual and triple channel modes using DDR3-1333 on an i7-950.

The performance impact depends how the application uses memory. If it streams through a lot of memory, touching it infrequently so the CPU caches can't help, then the loss will be greater than an application that touches the same memory frequently. So applications like Photoshop or data compressors take a larger hit.

FYI, the next generation CPU series that will replace the Socket 1366, Socket 2011, is going to use quad channel memory with only one stick per channel max.
  22. Yea, that's a big oops right there Big King.

Socket 1366 CPUs, such as the i7-950, want their memory in groups of 3 while Socket 1156 CPUs like the i5-760 wants it's memory in pairs.
  23. Well you can't have an all white team, you are going to need some color. And green isn't the color they are looking for so they went with the black Aqualad. Yes it's a bit PC but that's Hollywood. They simply didn't want any of resemblance to the Teen Titans. I don't follow DC but other than Cyborg and Static, I can't really think of another black teen DC hero. Does Luke Cage have a son/sidekick?
