  1. Holmes in the novels and short stories could easily defend himself and was quite skilled in several forms of fighting.

The Nigel Bruce portrayal of Doctor Watson from the 40s was an injustice to the character, Hollywood's way to make Holmes seem smarter by making Watson dumber. Sadly since it's this portrayal that most people remember rather than the more representative version done by David Burke and Edward Hardwicke during the Jeremy Brent days of playing Holmes, the idea that Watson is an idiot persists.

    ATs and Genders

I never bothered to notice a pattern with gender and AT. I tend to mix things up.

I normally start with a concept, like a look or a name, and then pick the AT based on the powers I think they would have.

I think I have more female scrappers than male.
  3. Two things, idiots and exploits. Well they do go hand and hand since the idiots only want to run the exploit missions.

I think I've only run one AE arc, Sister Flame's. Love the Disco Trolls.
  4. Well partially because the torch has been passed to the son, both the character (and daughter, twins) and the author (just a son here). But mostly because how many times one man (and his trusty sidekick) can save themselves, the girl, the country, the planet from all the Bond style foes they've run up against.

Last novel I read they solved global warming. Well they foiled the plans of someone who was making a buck with a phony carbon sequestering scheme while saving the scientist (female of course) and finding the rare raw materials for an actual working system.
  5. The anime for KOR is a little spiced up compared to the manga.

Madoka for instance is not the hard core juvie who wears a garter of throwing picks strapped to her thigh and skateboards down the steel girder framework of a building under construction for duels.

And sadly there is no Top Gun/Kaiju parody chapter (favorite episode of the series).
  6. Of course they left it open, no studio in Hollywood would tie up obvious sequel fodder as Sherlock Holmes. He started as a magazine serial after all.

They green lit the movie sequel after the first test showings and principle photography for the sequel is probably finished by now. There was a bunch of on location photos circulated back mid October.
  7. I really enjoyed KOR but I had to read the full set of Japanese manga with a translation file.
  8. I don't see one but you can always scan with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware and see if they find anything.

    Sound Pigg?

Well at the time you took the screen shot, the updater had no info to base the estimated time on. It's not until the download actually gets going in your case before a more accurate estimate can be made.
  10. It's not an auction house, one. Going in thinking it is even remotely resembles one will only lead you to confusion, sorrow and pain.

It's a double blind consignment house. The seller sets the minimum price they are willing to accept and the buyers offer the amount they are willing to pay, not up to. It's walking into the school lunch room and saying "I'll give the first person who will give my a pen with green ink $20". No negotiation. $20 for a pen with green ink. Cash on the barrel head.

You want a buy it now button, offer well above the transaction history. If you want to buy it now for a reasonable price, start low and creep up your bids. The sellers already set the price they are willing to accept. Problem is you have no idea until the transaction is made what they are.
  11. Yea, Chuck fandom to the extreme. It's like the guy who changed his name to Optimus Prime.

Saw this a few days ago. Must be a slow news day for the big news sites.
  12. I think the OP may be referring to the power customization, location of attack origin changes in I19 and is confused.

    Also it's LASER not LAZER.
  13. Ms Munn, due to her presence on G4, the fact they sent her to E3, SDCC and similar events and have her dress up as Slave Leia or Wonder Women, is the manufactured version of the "geek girl" according to cable conglomerates. As oppose to organically grown ones like Felicia Day, Danica McKellar, Kari Byron, et al.

She has about as much geek cred as most network anchors have journalism cred.
  14. ATI users are reporting in the other threads that 10.9 of the driver seems stable.
  15. I think the previous threads mention that this happens when the character texture settings are on the lower settings. However if you have the character texture settings turned up then this could be a new bug.
  16. The first picture is suppose to be Buzz and Woody. Looks more like Buzz and Crocodile Dundee.

The actual site with these also include a very adult Dora, let your mind fill that in, a steroid sized Link, a surreal Mario Brothers and what I think is a neat Pac-Man.

  17. Well one difference with Sandy Bridge is every Socket 1155 processor, including the quad cores, will have integrated graphics and Turbo Boost can affect both of the processor and the graphics core, independently of course.

Don't know how much of that will be "putting lipstick on a pig" but the new graphics core is actually suppose to approach performance levels of what integrated AMD and nVidia graphics are currently at (very low but not dismal), along with Dx11 and OpenCL support.

I'll give it three to six months, before I'm going to look at Sandy Bridge, unless the Socket 1156 platform and the i5-7xx processor simply vanish from the market.
  18. Well I had an aftermarket cooler as part of the high price rig since the very beginning, back when it was a Core 2 E8400 dual core processor. Heat is always the enemy of silicon so it seemed logical to spend some small amount on a better cooler, since the stock Intel one was rather poor and loud. However now with the Core i5/i7 series of processors, there may be a concrete reason to use one regardless.

This series has a feature called Turbo Boost, essentially self overclocking based on a number of conditions. Now according to Intel, one of the factors looked at to determine if it's okay to overclock and by how much is processor temperature. In the case of the 2.8GHz Core i5-760, it can self overclock to 2.93GHz with 3 or 4 cores active, to 3.33GHz with 2 cores active or to 3.46GHz with a single core active.

Now while the tiny stock cooler from Intel may be sufficient for an office based PC, a gaming system with a discrete graphics card dumping a hundred or more watts of heat into the case, just below the CPU, may just end up hindering the effectiveness of this feature with a stock cooler. So it seems to me that using an aftermarket cooler that can lower the processor temperature by 20-30 degrees Celsius over the stock cooler can only improve the odds that Turbo Boost will reach it's maximum.

Seems like a good use of $40 for decent aftermarket CPU cooler and a tube of Arctic Silver 5.
  19. Sadly it's the way the extra slot system was designed. I bet they didn't expect the store to have so much down time relative to the game's.

The coding appears simple. Number of usable slots equals 12 plus the count on the store server minus the number of characters already assigned. If the result is zero or less, you have no free slots. So if you delete a character right now from Liberty you won't be able to use it's slot until the store is back.

Why they store which extra slots are assigned to which server over on the store server is beyond me. It probably have something to do with keeping payment info separate from the game database. When you select a server the game server queries the store for number of unassigned slots and number of assigned slots for that server.

Yes, it's not ideal. Chance of them revamping the system soon, probably not anytime soon.
  20. I have no idea why so many people thought UM was going to be game changing. It's been that way since they first announced it. These features simply add more realism to the world, assuming they don't drag your frame rate through the floor.

Glad to hear you got it up and running. I take it that it's significantly better than your old system.
  21. Yea your probably right about the quote. After all the ultra seriousness of most shows I watch (The Walking Dead, Burn Notice, SG:U, Fringe, Nikita, etc) I really enjoy the inherent goofiness of these two series.
  22. Yes but I don't count NewEgg's "sales" and rebates when I'm pricing because they change so often. And yes I did look during the Black Friday weekend and boy did they have a heck of a sale, including Windows which you almost never see.

Right now the $725 rig is only $644 after discounts and rebates and the $1375 rig is $1232 due to nearly $90 of discounts. I always leave a bit extra for price fluctuations.
  23. And people wonder why a good chunk of NA manga TP titles have gone bye bye.

"Avast ye maties, scanlations off the port bow."
