Quote:Honestly you over estimate the cost of bad press. Sure we can tell our friends at relatives, warn them about getting involved with NCSoft properties but would they listen? Would they care? Look we couldn't get them interested in the game for more than a few months. And it's not like NCSoft is the only company that pulled the plug on MOGs. Console game companies (well EA) routinely shut down older franchises to force players to upgrade to the most recent <sport> <year> game or FPS war sim. Link Link Link. But you didn't add in the potential cost the massive bad press will put into any future deals.
Of course the majority of those games have single player modes.
And many MMOs have closed as well but I haven't heard of any sustained bad press about of the publishers who pulled the plug. Link Link Link
Yea, we can make noise. We can try to intervene when we see someone looking at an NCSoft product in a store. But in a year or two when Blade and Soul and WildStar come out, how many of us will remember to do it?
Maybe it's all Cryptic/Paragon's fault the way we feel. If they didn't let us to personalize our characters to such an extreme that they felt like old friends we wouldn't be so damn attached to them. Maybe if NCSoft didn't buy out Cryptic's share and kept the game going for another 5 years, maybe we wouldn't feel so much loss knowing they are going to be taken away.
I'm sure some of you will make noise about this. The question is for how long and whether it affects enough people to make a difference. -
All accounts that were VIP at a certain date will remain VIP until the game shuts down the end of November. This also means we get points and tokens until then as well.

Mercury fulminate is dangerous stuff to synthesize. The stuff in it's raw form is pretty darn unstable.
Brother isn't going to succumb to indoctrination, after all the Militia killed his father.
Yes but if he didn't kill the officer we wouldn't have learned about Miles big secret. -
Well obviously Miles isn't proud what the militia turned into which is why he deserted and became a bartender. Charlie's father probably knew, knew why Miles co-founded the militia and why he chose to escape what it had become. And the rank and file of the militia didn't need to know there was someone other than Monroe.

Just on the border of your waking mind
There lies another time
Where darkness and light are one
As you tread the halls of sanity
You feel so glad that you are unable to go beyond
I have a message from another time...
The visions dancing in my mind
The early dawn, the shades of time
Twilight crawling through my windowpane
Am I awake or do I dream
The strangest pictures I have seen
Night is day and twilight's gone away
With your head held high
And your scarlet lies
You came down to me
From the open skies
It's either real or it's a dream
There's nothing that is in between
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I'll give you time to
Steal my mind away from me
Across the night I saw your face
You disappeared without a trace
You brought me here
But can you take me back
Inside the image of your light
That now is day and once was night
You lead me here and then you go away
It's either real or it's a dream
There's nothing that is in between
Twilight, I'll give you time to
Steal my mind away from me
Your brought me here
But can you take me back again
With your head held high
And your scarlet lies
You came down to me
From the open skies
It's either real or it's a dream
There's nothing that is in between
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I'll give you time to
Steal my mind
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, twilight, twilight, twilight
Edit: Sorry, I thought this was post your favorite song lyrics thread.

I thought debt cap back then (when it started at level 5) was a full level's worth. And with no difficulty slider no way to eliminate a boss from a mission, lower XP, no Patrol XP, no way to abandon missions, etc. it was easy to get stuck in debt if you soloed with an AT/powerset combo with low DPS. Of course kitty-corner missions in the original Hollows didn't help at level 6 (damn Jewel of Hera).

Obviously there's a current threshold. Below X is okay, above X is inhibited. Of course that would also shutdown ozone production since lightning would be inhibited, unless it's more of a notch filter that a low pass one.

Grats Houtex. Too bad I can't figure out how to invite you to the Forum Cartel social group.

Dang, that's young.
Met him once at a multi-fandom con. Unlike the other TV guests he was the kind of person that didn't have a problem hanging with the fans instead of being sequestered in a green room or have be neck deep in security.
True story from that con. Now I wanted to get a good seat for the B5 panel with JMS and Harlen Ellison (this was B5's first year, not even half the season was over yet) so I got there earlier, got a really good seat, enjoyed the sneak showing of Signs and Portents and was enjoying the question and answer session that followed when JMS wanted to thank Michael O'Hare and pointed at me. Well not at me, the person sitting behind me, with all the other fans, with no staff security. Maybe it was because he was more of a stage performer that he didn't mind rubbing elbows with the masses.
I just remembered that George Takei was limoed in and out at the same con with no access outside of his scheduled appearances and surrounded by muscle (which is more understandable today than then ... oh my). -
Moscow in flames, missiles headed toward New York. Film at 11.

As well as including the various markups for wholesalers and the supermarket itself.

I picked up the first Torchlight for $10 at OfficeDepot, one of the few places that still have $10 old PC games that isn't a Mahjong, Casino or Bejeweled clone shovelware.
You can easily spot the Diablo I+II bloodlines in the game. Nice mindless clickfest. -

I remember the days we would just say SCOOPED with a link to the first created topic and kept the editorializing to a minimum.

Actually Nexon is close to Blizzard in terms of sales. That's pretty impressive for an item shop only source of income. Of course Nexon sales in the US as a percentage is as bad or worse than NCSoft's.
I also found it interesting that even though it started in Korea, it's corporate offices are in Japan and they are listed on the Tokyo stock exchange and not Korea's. -
At least he included a link to the original story in Korean.
Still I think it was a rumor designed to move NCSoft's stock. -
I definitely think a fandom section is necessary. And while this community follows exactly the same types of fandom (comics, scifi, anime, wrestling, MLP, TV, movies, etc.) it's a much larger group than we ever encounter outside of a college club or weekend con. It's unlikely that many people where you work would be interested in discussing the latest episode of Doctor Who, Young Justice, Korra, Warehouse 13, etc.
And while there are places for each of those types out on the web, there really isn't a single place where all those things can be discussed. -

Uh, hello, did any of the writers even research Trident II missiles or even Ohio class subs at all?
First, range of about 7000 miles. Can't be in the Indian Ocean and hit DC while passing over Kansas.
Second, it's a three stage missile. By the time it got anywhere near it's target it's nothing more than a MIRV platform (I'll come back to that) or more likely a flock of warheads and not a something that resembles a missile streaking overhead, and still under power. What part of ballistic didn't someone understand?
Third, they each carry 4-8 warheads (was designed to carry 12, treaties currently limit the number per missile by total yield), depending on yield. One missile could hit deliver a warhead to every major city in the Boston-DC corridor.
That's okay, guess the writing team just watched Superman for research.
Also I think curvature of the Earth would prevent you from seeing a nuclear detonation 200 miles off the coast either from DC or NYC. But that's a minor quibble.
Also they don't surface right under anything if they can avoid it. You would swap that Seal raft.
Besides that you got the usual collection of plot threads.
1) It appears that the President and his advisers were hell bent about nuking Pakistan. I assume the original plan was to make the Colorado a rogue boomer launching on their own and when that didn't work they then made them the excuse. However now that the public knows they are alive I imagine the US plot will include martial law.
2) The island has a number of plots. The war/crimelord that runs the island isn't going to like his island taken away. Problem is the sub doesn't really have enough manpower to take the island away from him. Then you have the internal factions on the sub. Those who will follow the Captain and those that may or may not be involved with the folks back home, like the Chief of the Boat.
3) Lastly for the ladies, we have all the potential romantic threads, long distance or island bound. Will the XO forget about his wife and the Admiral's Lieutenant daughter? Or the Seal team "adviser" get together with the former Dollhouse bartender? And of course we need our Michelle Rodriguez clone because no military drama should be without one.
And while sitting off of an early warning radar station will allow them to know if someone is coming by air, unless the sub is patrolling around the island, they will be blind from an underwater threat.
It could be vaguely entertaining, something to watch before Person of Interest. -
Mine posted this morning. $131.31 out of $143.40 for a 14 month subscription. So they charged me for 1.18 months or about 35-36 days. Renewal date was 7/26 and that's 36 days before the announcement so it looks good.

Considering all the in game responses I ever got seemed to be from a menu of canned responses from a support script, I'm wondering of GM_<name> is simply from a pool of GM names that get randomly assigned to whoever is doing CoH support that day.

Quote:Yes but they might have been able to take the money they spent on Paragon Studio and got a better return on something else.Actually it's not even accurate. NCsoft WAS making money off us. They axed it anyway. So one can't even make "no profit" argument.
There's a quote from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life that goes
Quote:Ah, I see you have the machine that goes ping. This is my favorite. You see we lease it back from the company we sold it to and that way it comes under the monthly current budget and not the capital account. -
I always wanted to do a lapel pin for the Midnighter's Club since they were introduced into the game. A nice metal/enamel one.
