Defense is like playing russian roulette.
You've got a higher chance of not being hit, however, when things do get through(and they WILL) you're going to hurt BAD.
Resistance is like wearing full body kevlar armor.
You'll get hurt, but it wont be as bad as if you were naked.
In the end it's a play style choice. Some people prefer gambling, others prefer consistence.
I prefer the latter. Constant, but survivable damage. Add a bit of regen, and a bit of defense and I'm happy. That's what I like about WP. It combines all 3 in the amounts I want. Defense being the lowest priority for me. -
Quote:Shrug ... it gets the job done and you can glitch it with sprint to not look retarded while running and just toggle it off when you stop.
There are far worst things running around that can't taken seriously to worry about ninja run. No amount of 'cool' looking sprint can make up for some of the really bad character backgrounds and costumes I've seen in my day.
The thing with character backgrounds is that I don't have to be looking at it. If it's bad, I read it once and laugh, then move on. With Ninja Run I see it everywhere. Twelve people standing around the same NPC all in the same funky looking stance is just too ridiculous to me.
Bad costumes are at the same level as Ninja run, imo. -
Quote:Yeah and personally I hate the look of ninjarun. So I can't even think to use that ever. It's not superheroic looking way to travel.
Not to mention most people look like idiots with it on.
Last night I made a new character. I finished the tutorial and was standing in front of Duncan. I look around and checked out other people's costumes and read their descriptions. There was a high tech robot, a demon summoner, a mob boss, a drug dealer, and an Amazonian Princess... and all of them have ninja run on. This is on virtue, too. At least half of those people are roleplayers. Talk about killing any chance of immersion when they're all standing there like ninjatards and doing flips like night elves on crack.
Honestly, I can't take any of those people seriously. -
Quote:*sigh* Okay. In that case, I'd like to see a Scrapper be more fun than my Brute. For me? It's not. Too squishy. Sure, it'd play like a Brute, but it'd die a whole lot easier.
Fun is subjective.
Some people find both ATs boring as hell. Some find Scrapper criticals too nice to pass up and think having to maintain fury is a real game breaker for them.
I'm with Claws, I like them both.
Although, to be entirely honest, if every single Scrapper powerset were given to brutes, I'd never play a Scrapper again. -
You'll probably regret going EA after a while.
Maybe not at first, since you wont have anything to compare it to as it's your first character in a while. After a point, though, you'll get tired of your secondary being so utterly useless and you'll start looking at every other Brute secondary with envious eyes.
In the end though, it's entirely up to you. You may find you actually like the set.
No way to know unless you dive in head first and try it out.
If you feel not liking and having to reroll a character is too great a downside, I suggest going with a safer bet until EA gets some love. -
Quote:My first scrapper was a db/regen. I absolutely loved his concept elf/dragon hybrid. He is a flying battler, the DB animations mixed with wings is quite breath taking IMO. He captivated me completely...
He lead me to create a spines/sr/bod, a bs/sd/bod, I have a kat/inun in the works, and quite a few others that met the chopping block.
However "Hybrid-Knight" lost his luster when animation locks would mean face plants, before being able to heal.
Course he isn't IO'ed, but I just don't really care for the feel of regen. It is a great solo set, but when you got a few bosses raining down on you, you are dead before you can act, if you don't use the right attacks. For instance using 1k cutz as a starter to a spawn is a no no. the mitigation of the attack comes at the end of it, and you are usually dead by then. However that just takes half a brain to figure out. He could be played better, but I found better combo's for me.
I would much rather him a DB/WP, but WP is so power choice hungry in the low lvls, that I ddn't much like the feel with the equal hungry DB set.
I made a "Warrior's Mark" toon, kat/inun. I was thinking of DB, the animations, and the DPS is spectacular.
It really is a matter of preference, and I just prefer defensive sets that generalize, instead of specialize.
I like SR even though it specializes, because the way defense works. 9 spawns out of 10 you are a god. Where as regen you must have incredible response time in some situations to survive.
I am not trying to bad mouth db/regen (mainly regen) because it gave me my epiphany, however that is as far a it went for me.
Funny, I'm the exact opposite of you.
I hate being a chump that 1/10th of the time. Yeah, the other 9 times you barely got touched, but the 10th time you went down faster than you could curse.
I prefer not being brought down by 3 minions who happened to get lucky hits. It's like you're walking around thinking highly of yourself, then get your rear handed to you by a wheelchair-bound hobbit armed with a butter knife. -
Quote:DP.....bleh....stupidly enough i'll play assault rifle over it....ofcourse my friend shawn will strangle me with the "its fun and it lookz so coolz!" Yeah but.....stuff wont die damnit!
Yeah, unfortunately, looking cool is the only thing you're going to be doing as a DP character.
-"I spent 10 seconds twirling around like an idiot and nothing died. Well, at least I looked cool while doing nothing." -
IMO, people suggesting the set are putting too much melee in it.
It doesn't have to be a straight port of a melee set. Throw in some shuriken. Some already exist for Scrappers.
New one:
"Munitions"
Net(like Entangling arrow)
Ranged stun gun
AOE grenades: poison gas(sleep), toxic gas(choking cloud hold/puke), stun, glue(like glue arrow), flash bang
Last power can be a robot or something.
Though, I guess this is more a "Tech" thing. -
Quote:The 60% chance for damage makes perfect thematic sense when you look at the animation of the power. When you're flailing yourself around like that firing handguns in random directions you can't really expect it to be that accurate.
If you wanted to make it even MORE realistic, it should cause Fear and stand a small chance of hitting any allies that happen to be within it's radius. You're pretty much firing guns indiscriminately around you, and bullets don't know who's on your side or not. It's not going to happen because there's no friendly fire in CoH, but that would be the likely result if you were to actually fire two guns like that.
Wait, are you pulling a realism argument into this place? -
Quote:Slightly higher DPS, but I don't think that's the main selling point. At a low level, it's a nice, spammable attack due to the quick recharge. At a higher level, it fits VERY nicely into a number of really good attack chains at various levels of recharge, and you can stick an Achilles' Heel in it. The good attack chains tend to use Gambler's Cut every other attack, which takes really good advantage of the Achilles' Heel proc.
What if you don't plan on bothering with set IOs?
Does it make a difference even with normal IOs or SOs? -
For Demon pets, I'm going with:
Sloth, Gluttony, Envy
Wrath, Greed
Pride
With my summoner being a Succubus. So she's Lust. -

Can't log into any of the characters I have on the server. When I try, the game freezes. If left alone for a while, it appears to go to the loading screen, then freezes there for a while once the bar reaches about half way.
Then it loops back to the start for a few seconds and goes back to the log in screen.
Tried a few characters, all of which are in GR. Haven't tried making a Hero or Villain to see if it goes through. -
Quote:That's the problem with defense based sets. Sometimes every enemy decides to roll a hit and end up destroying you.Hmmm Gruumch, Do you see large spikes in your health bar? That's the thing thats causing me the most disatisfaction with my Claws SR scrapper, he actually gets the job done, just not the way I want him to feel while he's doing it.
You'd probably notice a big difference no matter which of the two(inv or wp) you choose to go with. -
Skipped most of the thread, so don't know if it was thrown out there, but:
They don't have to be actual robots, thugs, undead, etc. They can simply be illusions or beings made of magic created to look like those things. -
Quote:When a game like CoH gets to this age. Its not attracting new players, its more in the stage of recyling. I only speak of this because I come from a 13 yr old MMO. I play a few games atm CoH, UO, & GW. I`m not a huge in NC Soft fan, but they are better than EA.
Though it's at this age the Devs have done a good job with this expansion.
It's piqued the interest of older players who quit years ago.
Like me, for example.
And based on the reaction from other forums I frequent, it's also seem to grabbed the attention of some new players. Granted it will never have the draw of games like WoW, but then nothing ever will. -
[ QUOTE ]
There is no draw for the zones other than PVP. The non-PVP content of the PVP zones consists of badges, BB & WB mini-games (which PVPers do not play), and zone missions which are uniform and boring. If the majority of casual-players in the game are going to consider participating, there needs to be more reason to enter the zones and be exposed to it. The monolithic single-purpose mentality of the zones has failed. The model needs to be more along the lines of a mall food store where in someone walks by with other errands in mind and spontaneously thinks "I'd like to have...a Cinnabon @.@". A high level of traffic is critical for that kind of model. Beyond limiting things that actively repel players (see previous points), there needs to be content in the PVP zones which appeals to a broad section of the playerbase for its own sake
[/ QUOTE ]
No.
Remove PvE content from PvP zones altogether. Don't add more, don't make the current options more appealing.
Remove them.
No more missions of any kind.
Remove the XP and drops from any NPC in the zones.
If you want to make a new zone with PvE content that both sides can access, make it a purely PvE zone.
You can't make both sides happy by forcing them to interact. -

Open contact with the devs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely!
I was over in the wow forums the other day (my previous addiction), and someone was complaining about not getting any feedback on the many ideas and requests for fixes that are posted there. Someone had replied and said something to the effect of, "the devs are not allowed to comment in the suggestion forums for legal reasons".
Of course I had to jump in and say what utter BS that is, because there's at least one MMO out there where the devs not only comment on suggestions but actively implement them and participate in the community. Oh, and they have a sense of humor too!
Needless to say that went over real well. lol
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't blame the Devs over there for not posting.
The moment one of them posts, they're assaulted with hundreds of people crying and begging for attention.
As someone else once said, the CMs at the WoW forums are saints compared to me. I wouldn't last more than an hour without just spamming the ban button.
Go there and look for any Blue Named poster. Doesn't matter which, just pick one. Go to a thread they post in. I bet anything theres a "zomg the devs are too busy to look at my complaints but waste time posting in useless threads!" comment somewhere in that thread.
A lot of the players are whiny little pricks who'll assault a CM just for being there.
Yeah, sure, I'm a loud mouth little [censored], but I LIKE seeing the red names post in silly threads. -
Whats left?
Doing the same kind of missions again and again?
Standing around in Atlas Park for a few hours?
What is there?
You've simply said that character development isn't the only thing there is but completely forgot to tell me what else there is?
Or was the reply simply some sort of smart [censored] remark to make when you really don't have an answer to a question? -

If there's something from Everquest that I don't miss, it's the unenviable situation of 1-5 pieces of loot for 72+ people.
[/ QUOTE ]
The same goes for every MMO that utilizes loot determine character effectiveness.
That's one thing I absolutely love about CoX. I'm actually done developing my Controller. I've been done developing him since last respeccing him, shortly after the release of ED. He's as effective as I want him to be, and I will likely never get over how awesome it feels to be able to say that about a character I play in an MMO!
[/ QUOTE ]
Why keep playing the character if theres nothing left to do with them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe because for some people, character development isn't the be all, end all of enjoyable game playing?
Boggles the mind, no?

On behalf of all players who don't have the time to line up and wait to fight the big bad that might drop the item you need to complete a quest or might drop a powerful item you need to enhance your character: no.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as a couple things happen, its not too bad.
Having something else to do instead, that can grant you equal rewards, for example.
Also, having that mob not take 2 hrs to respawn and more like 2 to 5 min at most.
Its also best when that NPC isn't dropping loot, but quest items instead.
That way, one group comes in, kills the NPC and leaves. Instead of having people camped around the spawn point for ages. -
[ QUOTE ]
but wouldn't it still produce the same end result? that of x amount of people lookin the same/havin the same stuff
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats generally not what keeps people playing MMOs, though.
What keeps 9 million people coughing up 15 bucks a month for a cartoony fantasy world that makes fun of itself and its players every single day is the carrot on a stick.
The best part of the carrot is that you don't get punished as severely for trying to get it as you do in other MMOs.
So, while you have the same armor and abilities as every other Warrior, it doesn't matter because you'll always have something new to strive for. Thus, you don't think about it.
In CoX, you don't have that constant struggle for the new piece of armor. So, you end up paying more attention to powers and appearances.

I can't think for reasons why he would argue this, but a friend of mine who got me hooked on CoH before leaving for WoW like a year or so later...complained about players having all the same powers and what have you at lv50, but he still loves the character creator system in CoH. At the same time, I told him, "Well...WoW is pretty much the same thing, sure you have lots of different armors, but if you want the the nice stuff, eventually everyone will look the same, and yeah you have a lot more powers to pick from, but again, if you're going for certain things, you'll have the same powers as a lot of others in your class.
[/ QUOTE ]
The difference being that theres always an upgrade, always that carrot to strive for. After a few months, Blizz introduces a new dungeon or a new boss or simply new drops.
What do you get once your character is 50 that changes everything? IOs. Once you get all the IOs you need, what do you get? IOs are that carrot, but theres nothing beyond it once you max your character.
