  1. Great guide, some missing.

D2 - Diablo 2, Multiplayer game that spawned alot of the bad habits and attitudes (Along with AOL) you see alot on-line. Often to tell someone to "Go back to playing D2" is an insult.

Godly - Something so strong/powerful/unbalanced that it makes everything else in the game seem pityfully weak.

Lamer - Someone who is Lame, or does something very cheap.

MUD - Multi User Dungeon, a type of text based Multiplayer game, the great grandaddy of most MMORPG's. Also the origion of the word MOB.

    NWN's - Neverwinter Nights, Single player/ On-line Multiplayer game based on AD&D.

r0x0rz! - L33t for Rocks! As in "OMG This game r0x0rz!"

RP - Role Play, to play out the personality and reactions of your character.

RP'er - Role Player, someone who Role Plays.

RP Nazi - Someone who forces Role Play on others and beleaves their way is the only way, often causeing other players (Even RP'ers) greif and agrovation.

Tard - Insult, abreviation of retard, or retarded.

Uber/ub3r - Origionaly a German word, used today to mean extreamly strong, or extreamly good. Also a lesser form of Godly.

  3. Incredible post! I really wish there was some way for me to put all this info in my character bio

This info needs to be spread all across Paragon City with as much haste as possible. I am a pure Empathy Defender myself and you described everything I do and deal with on a daily basis. Indeed a great informative post that should be read by all who browse thru here.

  4. I am glad that you have posted this. I was thinking of posting somthing simular but it looks as though you have done it all, and have done it well.
I have been healing since DAOC first came out.
Within the early years of my mmorpg career I have always been a healer, becouse to me it is by far the most exciting class to play.
Often times groups take healers for granted but on the other hand when they see a good healer in action it seems they all add you to friends list and you get constant tells every time you log in.
Healing is an art. A person just starting will have a rough time starting out, due mainly on how dependant the class is on others to survive.
It is a sacrifice not many make, but I am glad to see other people make it. FORGET the offensive powers, its all about the heals and healping (like that word?) your team become a lean mean XP making machine.
One thing I would like to add, is to become a good empath (Dedicated Healer) more often than not you need to take a leadership roll, mainly to teach others how to hunt in a group that best helps the group. ALL limitations of the group start with the healer how good or bad you are, and the powers you have.
To all my Empaths out there, there is no need for encouragement becouse you have chosen a class that you love, becouse no one in thier right mind would choose such a dependant class...but us...those willing to put others before us so we dont get hurt or dirty.eeewww

    Tales of Speed

ooc: Basically what this is, is a kind of diary for one of my characters, Speed Hound.
Its kind of an in game record of all things shes been a part of.

Read it and see if its interesting or not. Not sure if the other characters would mind me using their names here. Will ask before I include them.

    IC:

"Not sure if we'll get out of here."
Speed Hound was having doubts about her current situation. She had formed a small group of heroes, to venture into the sewers to hunt out the Lost, but not only that, it was a test for her, to see if she could face the evils that plague Paragon city.
A short while after entering, they had been beset by Skulls, hanging on their turf.
A short while after that, they got jumped by many, many Lost.
The final kicker, was when the person that was on point, legged it, leaving them alone in the sewers, without a clue as to how to proceed next......

ooc: Ok thats it for now, just gotta ask the others uf I can use their names.
  7. you for got the ever important

    BAF = Bring A Friend

    examples:
if I pull that baddie... will it BAF
Dont try to pull CoT, they BAF
  8. Actually, I like it quite a bit.

You managed to squeeze a believable, moving origin in... 1.. 2... 3... ...26 sentences. Well done!
  9. That was outstanding, man. Well done.

Hmmm, how would people feel about creating a character in homage to one of your favorites? Not a carbon copy or complete rip-off, but similar in maybe costume and powers? Just curious how my idea for creating a Captain America "clone" would boil over with people. Not exactly the same, but similar costume and possibly a similar background.

I would see it as paying respect for the character you love. as long as you uphold the ideals of the char you are imulating, I see no problem with it.
  11. Set77, I would never shun you, unless you commited a really heinous act
  12. Wow! Uber post bro! Im sure most people know those but this is extremely hepful for new players. Thanks!
  13. I loved Paranoia! That was such a fun game.

  15. Was playing for a few hours today and finally thought up a background for him...

Ryan Kage was fascinated with martial arts at an early age. He spent most of his early childhood hanging around local dojos, watching fighters spar. Once he was old enough, his parents encouraged him to take classes. It wasn't long before his true potential was seen. Ryan's instructors had never seen a boy with the raw power and lightning reflexs he possesed. Ryan could stand toe-to-toe with fighters twice his size and still come out on top. News of this young star spread throughout the city and people flocked to tournaments to see this marvel. Ryan took each victory with quiet pride, always displaying sportsmanship and fairness in his fights. His luck was short lived, however. During the Paragon City Martial Arts Tournament, Ryan watched as the 5th Column stormed the stadium, opening fire on the gathered citizens. Ryan acted quickly, gathering his friends and launching a vicious counterattack. The 5th Column, caught by surprise by the boys onslaught, was forced back. Ryan and his group felled squad after squad of soldiers, fighting to clear a path for the remaining people. Thier momentum didn't hold for long though. While battling a 5th Column Lieutenant, Ryan was smashed to the ground by a Wolfpack Robot, crushing his spine and leaving him helpless. When he awoke, Ryan found himself in a hospital bed, surrounded by his friends and family. Ryan knew that his injuries were severe and he probably would never walk again. This didn't stop him from enduring months of painfull rehabilitation. After a year, Ryan knew he could never do the things he used to, and resigned himself to his fate. A visit from a promenant military scientist changed that. This scientist had been experimenting with Ritiki neurotechnology and had made great advances in muscle and skeletal control using sub-dermal circutry. He offered Ryan the chance to take his life back by having Ritiki technology implanted across his body. The surgery was difficult, very difficult. Ryan recovered full motion throughout his body and almost tripled his strength and speed. He now patrols the streets of Paragon City, ever on the lookout for the 5th Column's incursions against his city.

Long I know, but it's actually pretty good. Any comments?
  16. Paranoia!!!! But citizen, you don't sound happy. Are you happy? All citizens are required to be happy. If your not happy we have ways to make you happy citizen.
  17. OOC: Wraith TDK, If your eye rolling the group - whatever i could care less. If your eye rolling the name - perhaps a little explanation is in order. In the background of the character he used to be a graffiti artist gangbanger. And used this life exp. to become the 'hero' he is. the numbers in the name are as close to graffiti art as i could get. NOT A FORM OF L33T SPK!!!! similiar to a cyborg or techno character with numbers in the name. If it still gets your eye roll after that, whatever i still don't care. (just thought i'd explain since you seem to have a thing against l33t spk)

And yes i know your reply was IC, i was refering to a few others that seemed to state OOC that his RPing was wrong. RP wise i like the disagreement you 2 are having on this issue. I was just chiming in my 2 cents both in and out of character. My whole point on not telling people how to RP, was on the attitude and outlook of the characters. No one can say for sure if Gamble was trying to get them get killed IC or OOC, and if it was IC that is his right. If people want to play boyscouts - cool, if they want to play jack azzes, cool. Either way it is a free country.

As for the idiot that wrote a thread to humiliate and decapitate your character - that was WRONG, and well beyond the limits of RP. I don't put it in the same category as what Gamble did when he let the other heroes get slaughtered by the kraken. What that person did was NOT RPing, but rather trying to incite a flame war with you. Something I am not trying to do. (btw sorry bout that bad exp. send me a PM with his name cause i really would like to 1 star his rating for doing that to you.)

IC: Night Raven, according to you I'm not a hero cause i don't save little old ladies crossing the street. Aww TFB baby!!! I'm stuck with my fate same as you, if i wanna go slaughter gangbangers for fun and amusement I will. In fact sounds like a fun thing to do friday nite - anybody with me?

As for protecting the city, i never said i actually did that - now did I. If by some fluke of my actions innocents are saved, so be it. If they are harmed, so be it. Bottom line the only thing that matters is ME, MYSELF and I. If you can't understand that, then maybe you should get your head checked boy scout. Do you really think the silly little mundanes appreciate you? No, they appreciate saftey, security and comfort. That's all - they don't care a lick if you live or die. They don't care if any of us live or die. Deal with it.
CURS3D K40S ((Cursed Kaos - cause we can't change fonts or do graffiti))
  18. My purpose for writing this thread is to chronicle what I hope will be a fascinating "rivalry" between two "heroes". I shall start by giving the background story of my character, "John Law", for all to see.

    I'm hoping whoever plays the character of "Death Dealer" will hear word of this thread, and will respond by giving his own background story before we proceed to the narrative phase;

With the rise of a new breed of criminal to terrorize the streets of Paragon City, the upper echelons of the PCPD realized that the time had come for a new breed of lawman. Enter Prof. Johnathan Lawler, a former technologist and ballistics expert for Crey Industries. Lawler volunteered his services to develop cutting edge law-enforcement equipment to be used by an elite squadron of police specialists.

The project was codenamed "John Law"...

After much deliberation, it was finally decided that the first candidate to be accepted for the new project would be former S.W.A.T. officer Detective Rodney Gould, who had built a reputation as a dedicated, incorruptable cop. Gould, who had recently lost his fellow S.W.A.T. member and best friend, Detective Samuel Greenbough, in a firefight with a local gang, immediately accepted the invitation.

After being equipped and going through several weeks of intense training, Detective Gould was finally ready to be tested on the mean streets of Paragon City.

    Then the Rikti invaded...

Professor Lawler disappeared during the invasion and has not been seen since that time. He is presumed deceased. The invasion's aftermath left the department with insufficient resources to continue the project.

Therefore, the department bestowed Detective Gould with Free Agent status. They would continue to covertly supply him with equipment based off what remained of Professor Lawler's notes, but they would publicly deny any connection with him or knowledge of the "John Law" project, which Gould has since adopted as his alternate identity as a crimefighter.

this brings me to my next thought.... any one in central florida looking for a pincel and paper campaign want to join a 3.5 game in the Forgotten Realms setting?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Makes me wish I was in FL then...

I find it hard to scratch up a group for real life gaming. Dang I'm so out of date the last games I played face to face instead of E-Mail had to be either Top Secret/SI, Paranoia, or Traveller.
  21. Sounds great! I listened to Gridstream radio when playing AO and it really added to the gaming experience. I'm looking forward to tuning in.

  23. 4. Never attempt to discuss politics or religon with an earthling, they will become enraged and attack indiscrimnately.

    5. When abducting earthlings, always find your specimen in what the earthlings call a 'trailer park'. No one will believe their stories of abduction. Also earthlings with the 'Mullet' hairstyle are prime candidates for abduction. Again no one will believe anything they say.

  25. Well - I know have 2 characters on Virtue based off my version of Dorian. The first is 'Dorian Gray' (the correct spelling was not available, so either they filtered it out or someone else had the same idea), the second is 'Morgan Fallon'. I will probably be playing Morgan the most cause i don't want to get my character wiped. I will be posting the full back story for him sometime next week on this forum. (i'd do it sooner - but i'm real busy IRL right now)

So if any of you happen to be on Virtue and are tired of goodie-goodie heroes feel free to see the darker side of RP. Morgan will most likely become my main (replacing CURS3D K40S) or at the very least a frequently played alternate. Also I will be looking for a good SG to join as well. (so if you have a darker SG or even a future villain group let me know).

Thanks again for all your input guys! hope to RP with all of you in Paragon City.

Morgan 'The Real Dorian Grey' Fallon
