It's easier than that. All you need to do is remove the ability to slot UNIVERSAL DAMAGE SETS. Then you're done. That's what I expect they will do. Let's see how they deal with folks who have already slotted one though.
-
Quote:I've done that quite often. You really learn to play when you don't always hide behind elite builds.See, I don't think that's fair, because those people with 10% defense on their Blasters.. Or anyone playing ANY character with 10% global defense, is an unintelligent or uninformed player. They should be linked to ParagonWiki, the forums, and Mids. They should be instructed in order to help them understand how to build characters correctly. That gap is there because of a gap in intelligent building. Those who build properly should never be ostracized because other people did it wrong.

The only positive I can see from this is that the abominations that are: "One more day" and "No more mutants" can be retconned forever.

Quote:Don't have school age boys then!Nothing against the quality of this movie, but I'm not interested in seeing a film I feel like I *just* watched.
It represents a sort of galloping creative bankruptcy I refuse to support.
As suggested, my boys demanded to see this immediately. I thought it was...OK. Decent reboot, the boy who plays Peter doesn't look even a bit like a science nerd. It's entirely sensible he would end up with someone like Gwen Stacy (as played by Emma Stone).
Sally Field as Aunt May...wow. But she's 65 so it's not a stretch really. -
A well lived and long life. Nothing to be sad about, but definitely something to honor. Rest well.

Only one answer: play both!
Since I did, I'll tell you the brute is noticeably sturdier. It's not a huge difference, but it's there. Also brutes get a taunt aura where Scrappers don't. -

Any Kinetic Melees every done this? With Assassin's Strike being such a strong attack now, it seems like with a very high recharge build, that Concentrated Strike isn't necessary.

Quote:I've always found it interesting that folks who play MMOs and deeply care about customization never pushed back stronger on this point. While in most MMOs putting rare loot in the item shop is a no-no (or at least causes consternation, like here) it's been totally fine with most people to put cosmetic gear in. I know some folks here complain about it, but I hardly see it elsewhere. But costumes are one of the things in the Paragon Market that the devs know are pretty safe to charge for.
...
There really aren't any pay to win arguments that can be made for costume pieces being purchasable. They do need to release a few new textures and pieces for free too though. -
Quote:It's very, very strong. But I've been wondering how would one change it. The easiest (cheesiest) nerf is to simply not allow the power to accept Universal Damage sets anymore. But that's a noob GM move. However, nerfing the proc or the power doesn't make sense since neither is overpowered except in powers like Bonfire.Nope.
The KD proc in Bonfire is ridiculous.
100% constant KD in a power that can be perma with minimal recharge slotting. You can have that kind of control over every spawn. It actually made my Fire/Kin almost boring to play because he was going through spawns with zero risk of even getting damaged, let alone defeated.
You have permanant unbreakable control over entire groups of enemies, provided they are not knockback resistant. They flop on the ground, and then flop again before they even get up, and they keep doing that for the entire duration of the power, at which point you can just lay down another one.
I'm honestly expecting this to be tweaked a bit, it's a little overpowered. -
Quote:Sam and I argued about what he writes above incessantly during Issue 19's timeframe. But what I find intriguing is how he frames it here. While I like games with challenge and achievement, I like playing with digital action figures too. More than half my characters aren't IOed to the gills and don't seek to conquer every challenge in the game.Honestly, that's a big part of where I think the disconnect lies. You seem to value achievement, and I personally really don't. Not for myself, not for others. I've always treated games more like toys than like a sport. This is my action figure simulator where the bulk of my fun is contained within making cool characters and having them do cool things. The "game" aspect of it, by which I mean the part where I as a player oppose the system, isn't terribly interesting to me. It's useful in the broadest sense, in that it gives me a much-needed direction, but I find no satisfaction in "beating" the system and "winning" the game. I mostly find satisfaction in playing around with the system.
I think many people believe that my primary goal in this post is to complain about the Marketplace. It isn't. It's just a discussion. What the marketplace does is alter (to use Arcanaville's terminology) how I feel about the game. I don't feel it's a game anymore. It's much more what Sam says above. It's a place to play with toys. You can buy more toys if you want. You can earn some toys, but if you have problems earning those toys, the game will let you buy what you need to earn them. Now, I've not thought of City of Heroes as a particularly challenging game, but the existence of things that allow you to circumvent what challenge is there means that this is no longer a game at all to me. It's a place to create and play with concepts for super heroes. Nothing wrong with that. I can find games elsewhere. -
Quote:Well, I think of the marketplace IOs that turned my Dark Controller's Fear into a very decent Cone attack. When you say this, what comes to mind, some of the crazier temp powers / boosters and inspirations out there?
I also think of the amplifiers which will allow any blaster to have perma snipe and mez protection at all times.
There's others, but the way I see it, with some exceptions (Bonfire) all this IO does it make powers functional that sucked. -
Quote:No....well not exactly no. I have farmed in the past just to see if what the fuss was about. For example, I had a Spines/Ninja Stalker that I got to 35 in AE. The character meant less than nothing to me and was deleted the next time I needed a spot. And by 'less than nothing' I mean exactly that. The character actively bothered me because it was AE farmed. It had no story. It's an 'it' not a him or her. Like my Kinetic/Ninja Stalker who only gets played occasionally, but he is played justly and I like him and his story and although he's only 24 after more than a year, I value his 24 levels more than the Spines/Ninja above whole existence.ok, gek, honest question, did you get some of the rewards you are currently proud of by farming minimally risky enemies? If not, does the fact that others have diminish your accomplishment.
I guess one could say I farmed Katie Hannon back in the day, but I love that TF quite a bit and can honestly say I would do it more if I could get teams for it so I don't feel that was farming per se. -
Yeah, I don't know about that. Some of the stuff in the market has a much more meaningful effect on the game than this IO.

Quote:I don't agree. There's nothing inherent in what happens during the grifter's dialogue that makes any reference to gender at all. The only possible reference to sexuality (as distinct from gender) is the "flirt" and it is wholly possible for a woman to do that. You're missing the point - the morality doesn't matter - it's that the role is written for a male, while the other 3 roles are all written as gender neutral.
It'd be fine if the 4 roles used preset characters, and the Grfiter was defined as a male character - like there's no problem playing Tyrant's personal story mission where he refers to Black Swan as a harlot, becasue the character we're given to play is a guy, and the model used is naturally male.
The personal story missions are basically "movies" where we play the part of a preset chatacter, and they're each written with that character in mind - which is how the Grifter role comes accross - it feels like it was written with a preset character in mind, but without giving us a preset character and model to use for it.
As for saying something crass, we are not told what is said and there is no reason to believe that it is necessarily sexual or male centric. For example, Joan Rivers says many crass things in her act. Often sexual. But her words are not odd for a woman to say, except for being crass. -

Quote:You have correctly stated how I feel.To be clear, your premise is that if something can be both earned and bought, it lessens the value of earning it. Correct?
It doesn't matter if you never buy it yourself, the simple fact that the option exists, lessens the value of earning it. If NO ONE ever buys it and everyone only ever earns it, earning it is still cheapened by the mere possibility of buying it.
It seems a rational, if weird, position. I don't feel that way in general, but it doesn't seem crazy or anything. -
And other things yes. But there was a fix, but the devs explained that many players would go nuts if they had to respec every character. This wouldn't have been a free spec, this would have required a mandatory, as soon as you login respec to deal with the issues the change created.
-
To be precise it would have required everyone to respec, which is supposedly really bothersome to a large number of players.

Quote:I agree, but I suspect this is only an introduction for this mechanic.I think I might be the only person that is a little upset about this enhancement. For years some of us have been looking for a way to have a choice as to whether a power does knockback or not and now we have been given that choice in a limited fashion because the IO is a Unique..
Therefore in toons with Multiple KB attacks I can only slot this once..
Not saying im not going to place it in a few toons.. but kind of a huge letdown for the plans I had for some -
Quote:This x 1000.This is one of those threads that's just going to go round and round. No amount of debate or arguing or personal vitriol is going to change anyone's stance.
You either like them or you don't. Paragon Studios is going to keep making them and keep gating things behind them. Will things eventually be released normally? Potentially, but probably not for a long while.
And that's pretty much it. No one kvetching about how immoral it is is going to make them stop. They know you're unsatisfied, but they know plenty more are not.
So I think folks are just going to have to agree to disagree. Or just continue arguing in circles, it sure gives the rest of us some entertainment.
NCSoft has chosen a direction. All we can do as players is choose whether or no we want to patronize the business. Arguing about it among each other isn't going to accomplish anything. -
Quote:I think that relies on a reading of my question out of the context we're discussing.I believe the first half of that statement is impossible for non-socipathic human beings.
EDIT: (Not in response to Arcanaville, I just didn't want to make a new post)
What I find absolutely fascinating about this discussion is the complete inability of the participants (on both sides, I count myself), to accept what the other says at face value. I am becoming more convinced by the post that this is exactly like politics or religion. We come at the problem from different starting points, different value systems and so when I say something like, "Some items in the marketplace bother ME irrespective of the actions of others", others who disagree can't even comprehend how that can be true. Many responses to the question I posed are along the lines of "we believe you are not lying, but you're still wrong." Which is amazing to me because I honestly can't see how either side could be wrong here. People can like different things. I see this as little different than saying, "I like the color green but not the color orange." I doubt anyone would feel the need to ascribe motive to that statement. It's just a statement of preference.
Likewise, I don't like certain parts of the game being sold away in the marketplace. I am an attorney and have spent many years arguing both sides of an issue. I fully understand how to tease out biases. I do not care what other players do (in this context Arcana...meanie!). I care, because I think selling certain things make the experience of earning them meaningless. I also realize that no matter how many times I state that, some folks will nonetheless believe that I am trying to control what they do. I can't change that. Nor will I argue against it any longer. I see no point. We have different beliefs. That's not going to change.
Just to let folks know, I don't object to the market or even selling many items in it that affect the game. I have very deep reservations about selling the amplifiers, what goes in the super packs and the purple IOs. Other than that, I use the market often and am quite happy about how it's helped fund such quick expansion of content.
