Is there an easy way to take a picture in CoX? I use PrntScn and it works...sometimes. Also, is there a way to take a decent third-party shot of a toon you're playing?

Three billion?
Wowza.
I can't help much with Fire tanks. I think with that much scratch, you could have a build for tanking AVs and a build for speed TFs with 2+ billion to spare.
I strongly suggest reading every scrap you can find BEFORE spending a dime. I'd start with Call Me Awesome's guide to soft-cap and the Invul/Super Strength tank. Though not a fire tank, it will open your eyes to how you should approach building your tank.
Study up on positional/typed defense, AoE damage, frankenslotting, and the role of the tank in the game.
I probably wasted 100 million to 200 million on my scrapper. I didn't think it was wasted until I did the research and built my tank. Then, I looked at my scrapper and did the palm-face-slap.
Read, read, and read some more. -
Dont sweat folks barking about bad tanking. If theyre experienced, theyve likely tanked in the past and know that its . . . how can I put it? You have to feel out the group to figure what style they prefer.
Ive been with a SG that practically mandated a mechanical approach to clearing rooms, using herding. The result is a slower paced game, but players learned their roles in groups at a quicker pace.
Ive been in groups that like the tanks to engage, take the alpha strike, stick around for a few rounds of damage, then move to get the next group of bad guys ready. Quicker pace, but chaotic and some folks complain about others stepping on their AoE toes (for example).
Be honest with the group. Im new to tanking. Patience is appreciated. If I hear that, I may send tells for advice, but I usually let experience be a good guide. And most folks will be patient and supportive.
Ive tutored new players on tanking. New, meaning new to the game. They tend to think tank=heavy duty damage (I did, at one point). I load my main tank, Sgt Fallujah, and take them on a tutorial, of sorts, showing how to gather aggro, face the enemies away from the group, use the environment (in terms of line of sight and walls/knockback), etc. -
Radubadu,
I have a blaster about your tank's level (if that is still his level). I can usually get teams together and can send word for you, if you'd like.
DOH!
I thought your name looked familiar. I jut invited you to the SG. I'll just send word out in Coalition chat. I have been working on a scrapper lately. Still looking to level my blaster, though. I may be forming a TF tonight.
Oh, heck, who am I kidding? I'll be forming a TF tonight. just not sure which one. Pushing to get to L 35 for numina and TF Cdr -
Quote:It wasn't an intentional "pull." We ran. They chased.I suggested something like that a few months back on a team that just couldn't take the AV's down. I was told at the time they wouldn't pull that far. Interesting.
Quote:There is also a method I call "chicken yard" but I refuse to elaborate on it because I hate it with a fiery ******* passion from hades.
Well, I'll start reiterating that it is not true. It seemed odd, given past experiences with her, but I wanted to know for sure. Hopefully, it will die out. Thank you for clarifying. I'll spread the word to my SG. -
A person in my SG suggested a scrapper get the glowie from the Tree to use against Dr Aeon, figuring the tank will have enough on the plate.
Good point about Scirocco. Those AoEs can drop squishies, so keep them at a distance. When I first did the STF, the tank parked at a corner on the long platform and the squishies stayed behind the red line on the ground.
By accident, of sorts, we drew two AVs back to the hospital boat. We were looking to draw one, but at max two. More came along, so we bailed for the boat. BS and then Scirocco came to the boat. Battling them there was easier, since we had additional damage picking away at them (boat crew and guns).
I've heard the Blue tower is the most skippable.
I also heard the Geas is useful against Mako, but I've seen him dropped without it.
Can someone confirm that GW's heal is a front/cone? -
Taking Rommy down is a lot easier if you separate him from his fluffies. Some use a second tank to taunt while another tank takes on Rommy. I've heard about the rooftop tactic, but never used it. I typically draw Rommy to the left patch of grass from the platform. There are walls to run behind when he rezzes, it's sometimes easier to separate the fluffies, and I think it also cuts down on the ambushes. Really, that's what the rooftop tactic does, as well.
For LR, I strongly suggest popping a purple prior to charging in. That may seem so simple that it doesn't need to be said, but I've seen tanks face-plant because their defenses were in walk-around mode and not in combat mode. Do this: Open up Combat Attributes and look at your defenses. Then, enter a simple combat (mob in PI, for example). Notice the difference in the defense per cents. Have a full tray of purples before heading in.
For GW, like all the AVs, turn her from the party so they attack her back. Have an Emp (if your STF rolls with one), stack Clear Minds on you as fast as they can cast em. -
Good advice. The point of the contest is to get folks to team and get to know each other, so I'd prefer mixed teams.
-
I wonder if the soft-capped scrappers essentially ended the "Tank/Emp/Damage" model. For some content, it's difficult to do without a tank. However, early in the game most have the same defenses (none). Mid-game, tanks gain better defenses but fall behind in damage. By the late stage of the game, when the tank can shine, the damage dealers hit the "Mob? What mob?" mode when they can take many mobs out in ten seconds or less.
In the same sense, the Emp is often shrugged off. Lower level, you HPs are so low, you may die with or without the Emp (though CM vs. CoT is a gamesaver). Upper level, most folks have their self heals or such to off-set the damage they may take with battles that last longer than 10-15 seconds. -
I have a Invul/SS tank and followed Call Me Awesome's guides (after the fact). Using those guides, I've built a very solid tank who is fun to play. Of course, most tanks built to take the Alpha strike and hold aggro can seem boring for the first 30 levels. If built well, the tank becomes more than just fun from levels 35+. He can stand in the midst of utter chaos and remain relatively unscathed.

Hey all,
Looking to run a contest for my SG. I want to run two separate Positron contests.
The first is open to teams of heroes in the SG at any level, to beat the 1 hour mark.
The second is open only to characters L20 and under. Opening a two week window for the fastest team time.
Anyone run contests before that can provide some insight or suggestions to make it more fun or to avoid problems?
Not looking for tips on running the fastest Posi, per se. Looking for administrative advice. -
Quote:I agree. I always picked swift, then wanted to try out hurdle. Had an identical reaction. Hurdle + Combat Jumping = never toggling Super Jump (in most cases). This means you can leap around and control your drop point without dropping the defensive bonus from CJ.Certainly valid. I used to do that too. However, if you've never tried Hurdle's synergy with Super Jump, you should do so, once, on a mature character (so as to get the higher values that come with level). The first time I did so was a Keanu-like "Whoa!" moment for me. You rise up and up to the top of the arc of your leap, and then keep rising and hurtling forward, a lot farther than before.

EDIT: Oops. Mis-read what you posted.
Regarding the normal Swift and Leaping, I think others covered it. -
That's pretty cool. Thanks for organizing it. Two of my SG members participated and finished on the 1st and 2nd place teams (Inf1nity and Flaming Mentalist).
Congrats to all. -
Never built my Ice/Rad for farming, but I imagine you'd want to want to tweak your Arctic Air.
Level 6: Arctic Air- (A) Coercive Persuasion - Contagious Confusion
- (9) Malaise's Illusions - Chance of Damage(Psionic)
- (9) Malaise's Illusions - Endurance/Confused
- (11) Endurance Reduction IO
- (40) Coercive Persuasion - Confused
- (40) Coercive Persuasion - Confused/Endurance

Along those lines, how about walls getting cracked when bodies fly into them? Or glass shattering? Parts of the ceiling falling from attacks. Lights getting shattered by sonic attacks, leaving the map area dimmer. Parts of the place catch on fire. Sprinkler systems coming on. Cave-ins that require you to blast your way out if someone uses a nuke power near an opening. All inside the maps, of course.
How about a space combat map? A TF that takes place in space so that you need to meet at a rocket launch site. Id love to see a set of missions that make you account for zero-G combat and then, once you click a glowie, you get gravity (or near earth gravity). Battle on Mars. Heck, battle for Mars or the Moon (or moon station). TF to destroy a Moon-Based laser that will destabilize the planet core or something. Give folks a temp power of Increase Density if they complete the TF. -
That's a fantastic suggestion/change. Thanks.
I also noticed that you (I) could save some serious Influence without giving much up by slotting L50 Defense IOs and a L50 End Red in Invincibility. -
Took him out against AVs last night in the Jenkins arc.
Although aggro was good, I think the suggestion earlier is a good one. This tank is not a damage-dealer, but it so hard to hit. Since the damage from Punch is light, it makes sense to pull it and slot Taunt in the same spot.
Also took the tank into an Arena fight with a MA/Regen scrapper. After about five minutes of me taking breaks for Endurance to return and him hitting once every ten times for 50 points of damage, we called it a draw.
He hit level 48 last night during the missions. At Level 50, I'm going to run my own Maria Jenkins arc for a full run down of how the build does against various AVs and then, of course, an STF.
I did battle Mother Mayhem. Psionics, as expected, cut through like a chainsaw. Died once between the two Psionic AVs, but didn't pop a purple during the fight either (again, wanted to see how he does without inspirations against AVs). -
Quote:One month on the board does not mean one month of experience. As noted, I've played Khelds. This would logically mean that I've taken at least one character to 50 and the Kheld to certain levels, at a minimum. Doubtful that happens in the first month of play.Um, question - Why are we arguing with a person who has less than a month of experience?
I mean, they're wrong, but it's not really our job to make them into a good citizen... is it?
I recently decided to register, thinking that I may be able to engage others in thoughtful debate over nuances of the game.
I've remained on the high road here, despite the low road taken by many here (without apologizing, as adults do when they realize they've over-stepped civil boundries), and kept focus on the argument.
To date, no one has said anything that refutes the actual points I've made.
The design has too many drawbacks to make it worth playing. An AT with more drawbacks than advantages is not worth teaming with, in my opinion. Others believe that an AT with more drawbacks than advantages adds . . . something.
I get insulted without apologies for the incivility.
Words are put in my mouth and when I've asked for folks to show where I've said things, they suddenly get distracted by the butterfly out the window, rather than admit I never made statements and that they have misinterpretted what I've said.
I would hope that some of the people who have engaged in the behavior above would take a moment to reflect on their conduct and, even if they don't have the intestinal fortitude to post an apology here, commit themselves to being respectful of others with different opinions in the future. -
Quote:The person inquired why some don't play Khelds anymore. The point of criticism is to correct behavior or to provide advice for future improvement. By your own admission, there is no behavior to correct, or improvement that can be made. Your argument is with the DESIGN of the Kheldian. You do not offer advice in how to better play a Kheldian or how to minimize the issues that you find important (and there is nothing we can do to improve it, that is all in the hands of the devs) you merely refuse to team with them. Period.
So, I answered the question that started the thread.
Had that question asked for ways to improve the Kheld, I would have included several ways. It didn't, so I didn't.
"Gigging" me for not providing an answer to a question not asked is peculiar.
Quote:In short, your advice is, "Don't ever play a Kheldian". That is your idea of "learning from mistakes", the mistake being that we are all foolish enough to play Kheldians in the first place. As such, I don't find it to be constructive criticism at all.
For that matter, please show where I stated that others should not play PBs or WSs.
I'm serious.
If you cannot show it, have the decency to retract your statement and/or apologize.
Finally, I think many here need to...read what is actually posted and not what they think has been posted.
I've lost count of the number of times others in this thread assumed something was written and made a persoanl swipe at me...over something I didn't post.
Rather than fire back with insults, I've chosen to stay focused on the argument at hand, only to be met with more insults and more fabrications about what I've written.
Who wouldn't want a team full of people who act in that way? -
Maybe coming into a thread asking why people no longer play Khelds isn't the best place to whine about why people don't play Khelds.
Regarding my CoH preferences, I think I'll stick to teaming with folks who aren't so sensitive about criticism. People who reflexively reject criticism tend not to learn from mistakes or admit certain realities exist.
Happy hunting, Khelds. -
Quote:Since that point, I made some minor changes. That is an interesting build. The defenses look good, but how is it at holding agro?

Aggro holds well. You can easily swap out Punch for Taunt and achieve the same defenses, which I did above.
The fifth set of Reactive pushes the defenses just slightly past soft cap (new build) and, in tough, pushes the Resistance to max.
I've taken this guy out for a spin and have him up to Level 47. Should be at 50 within a week or so. Ultimately, I'm looking to build a solid multi-level tank for TFs that can also tank AVs. The Psionic ***** in the armor bugs me, but whutchagonnado? -
