    WTF Purples?

Btw guys and gals -- don't click on Beefcake's picture link. I briefly had malware on my system today and its the most likely cause. Thank god for having IT employee who works for me.

By positions I mean my bid-asks and such. If people knew for example (real data from an old spreadsheet circa i14):

That I put out 5x10 bids for Titanium Coating Res/End @100034-100038

5 x 10 on all the salvage used at 1038 for all

    And listed at all times 5 @ at 3000001, 5 @ 3100001, 5 @ 3333331, 10 @ 3500001, 10 @ 4000001, 5 @ 4500001, 5 @ 5000001, 5 @ 5500001 and a high-ball stack of 10 listed on Justice for 10000001.

Also I kept 30 support bids out on these at 500038 to prevent a collapse below crafting costs.

If they knew all that, they'd be able to use that significantly to their advantage. Thats what I mean by positions. And no people don't know what my positions are...even if they do know the likely niches.

I'm not worried about the 95% who don't read. If I gave my specific positions away the 5% could rip me down from making 600-1000M a day to a mere 100M a day. So I don't do it. As for generalities, if you "own" a niche you can make alot of inf off of it. I have one which gives 300M a day predictably every day...unless someone typoes and gives me more.

Ok I gotcha, to each his own I suppose. But I'm not like the rest of you, I don't brag about what I've done or haven't done. I made my post earlier to liven the thread up a bit, but my post wasn't just that, it was telling what I am doing. Troll post if you will.

I flip items every day, I may not keep prices at a certain range for x amount of time, but I make the money. Flipping is easy when you have the inf to burn, buy everything and do what you do. Monopolize that item you want to flip, I'm just glad that I have other servers that I can create what I like to call, bank toons to hold my money since as you said it, storage is limited.

And to convert inf to prestige, bah, not worth it at all. I do it sometimes, but not very often. I don't PvP the Top 100 Rank list on the server, yeah, we are #1 on my server but what does that mean really? You can't do a damn thing with prestige, so to me it's useless and converting my hard earned cash, err I mean someone else's hard earned cash to prestige to me is worthless, I would much rather just store it as I have been

    Like This?

Ok, I brag a little since you wanted to see it, but it's not quite as much as you asked for, but I'm close I guess
Is converting worth it? Probably not to most players. I convert, mostly cause I've run out of other realistic long-term goals other than burning 225B more to get my solo-VG to #1. My badger is 95% done (900ish badges), I have a level 50 in every AT, I have an excess of high quality IOs in my base.........so I made an odd goal for myself to have something useful to do while I still enjoy the game. A side benefit of converting is I am marginally reducing the supply of inf in the game which over time keeps down the rate of inflation inherent in a game w/o sufficient inf sinks.

I will conceed that you must have been making inf for a while if you have "blown up" roughly 20-30B to make that much prestige. So you probably know what you're doing marketeering. I don't "brag" either on these forums and rarely tell people what I'm doing. When I post its just to inform people about what works and what doesn't work or to add economic discussion to the mix (which may not be relevant since this isn't a real economy). You seem to have an excessively negative view of marketeers but if you hadn't noticed we really aren't doing this to "get rich" or ruin the market, or whatever....we already are rich and ruining the market makes no sense. We do it for as dissimilar reasons as why people play the PvE and PvP sides of the game. So try not to come here and troll everyone at once. I respect you as a very knowledgable badging guru; There is no reason to drag your rep down by slandering us because we write about making inf in the market.

So after all that he decided to see if other people would help on Virtue and Crazy 88's of Virtue was born. Let me tell you its alot faster with lots of people. Though I'm about to blow up some serious inf this week on Freedom. Only 235B to #1 on Freedom!

Hell wants some screenshots of my base enhancement tables? I will show ya what I've been collecting and selling ...lol
You can give me names all you like....but unlike the real market where a trade is signed with a medallion # and where even bids and asks are marked by market maker, there is no certainty here. Last 5 is a pathetic amount of information to be limited to.....and I wasn't referring to market PvP in general I was discussing any specific conflict. I welcome you to make the move from badging to market PvP if you like Beef Cake. At badging I respect your knowledge, organization, and general aptitude. But here you're out of your element and not as experienced as many of the other players. This isn't simply "reading some guides and messing up the market" as you've seemed to put it earlier. Marketing which is pure price control will always eventually fall apart. The big money is in providing a service by crafting certain IOs and controlling a significant portion of that IO's production as a niche. If you move into my niches I'll be happy to take some of your inf or use you to make us both inf but myself the larger share...depending on how you play your salvage, recipes, and IOs. If you don't.....why would I PvP you?....no profit.

I dont really want to see what anyone has hoarded....cause then people would want to see mine and I don't feel like posting pics of my 54 tables full of 50-100 IOs each (2 bases on freedom, 1 on infinity, 1 on justice). They may not all be purples, but I still have alot of those.

If you want to impress me with your ability to accumulate inf or stuff (which can be made into inf)....post a pic of one of your toons with more than 80M prestige earned (or converted). Then you can show me you had more than 40B that you just burned cause it was getting too tough to store it all.......kind of like me.

I'm currently driving up the prices on Gravitational Anchors, my next project will be Fortunata Hypnosis!

The nature of Market PvP is that you'll rarely know the name of your opponents...and when someone does proclaim something (driving up price of X) you have every reason to suspect they're actually doing the opposite.

This is part of it. A large portion of the pbase is getting toons from Praetoria to 50 now. Not everyone levels their toons fast you know.
  9. AE sucks.....off some portion of the playerbase, but its still easy to find/form a group most of the time. Just broadcast something like running villian tips missions in sharkhead or cap and you'll usually get a 3/4-person group for your 1st mish in like 45 seconds. Do it again after you finish mish one and are on way to mish two and you'll often get to 8.
  10. I have 3 very durable stalkers:

Most durable -- BS/Elec.......Broadsword has parry...with 1 parry up I'm softcapped to Melee and always softcapped to Ranged. Generally I'm running around with like 50% s/l resist and solid resists to non-toxic as well. This toon survives the defense debuffing in a pack of cimeroans....pretty rare for a stalker.

2nd most durable -- Spines/Dark........good balanced resists....an insanely good self-heal......I soft-capped her to s/l as well. She dies sometimes where the bs/elec doesn't because sometimes the self-heal takes a little too long to animate.

3rd most durable -- Elec/Dark.....same deal with the spines/dark except elec's animations seem longer so I die a little more often waiting before I do the self-heal.

If you want a cheaply built and very survivable stalker ninjitsu is awesome for that.....just make sure to use caltrops liberally.

Random is random. Just when you're farming at x8 you kill enough guys to get one randomly. I do it on +1x8 rather than 0x8 because I get pool A drops and the occasional pool C drop all at level 50 that way.....I hate getting a good pool C from a boss and its level 49.

[QUOTE=Frosty_Surprise;3281578]True enough, but I'm not sure that there is a subsection of people devoted as purple suppliers. Besides hero merits, is there any way to obtain a purple IO except random? Or can you even get them with hero merits? (Can't honestly remember right now.)

Yes, playing the game more often will get you more chances to obtain a purple, but being a farmer does not necessarily equate that you get more purples. But, I don't want to get into a debate on what random really means; there's already been a lot of threads on this anyway.

I have a fairly reliable way to pop purples. I run lib TV over and over on my main set to +1 x8. I can finish the map in around 30 mins when highly motivated and get a purple on average every other run. So if prices are high enough I can pop a purple an hour or so. I seem to have atrocious luck with popping purples by kind though and get way too many fortunata hypnosis recipes....and yet still manage to get alot of the good stuff too. Since prices are up I'll probably pop 2 on monday morning, when I next have the time to dedicate to purple popping.

Some other ways to pop them are to run TF like ITF and LGTF which go at level 50 (even with sub-50 toons) and so on.....anything killing level 47+ mobs is good enough.
  13. I've never done it myself to test, but all indications I've read are that bonus to healing doesn't affect regen or powers which add to max hp. I think I remember it even doesn't increase the heals in click powers which add to max hp.....like dull pain and such.

Players can make more purples. Some parties can gain without others losing. Thus, not a zero-sum game. It is not the productivity that is required to be "zero sum" -- its the total amount of whatever good that exists.

    Examples of Zero-sum games:
Generally stock. Generally, there is a fixed amount of stock for one company. For one person to get more another must lose some.
Generally Property. For one person to gain property another must lose.

    Non-Zero sum games:
Milking Cows: Someone can go get milk
Automotive: Someone can make more cars
We're not talking about purples as a whole....we're talking about speculating on purples (not popping more unless the price paid for some causes someone to have better IOs and thus pop more). I pop purples, I also sometimes speculate on purples. Popping purples to sell is a win-win game......someone else gets to buy a purple at a price that is less than the presumed utility of the purple (or they wouldn't have bid it in the 1st place).....I get inf and since I don't need the purple gain utility as well. When I speculate on purples its a -0.1 sum game since the house keeps 10% and there is a fixed quantity at that given time on market. I only win if I get someone to pay at more than 10% more than I paid......ergo very similar to a zero-sum game.

Now there is I guess a potential arguement that high purple prices encourage more people to run farms popping them.....but I don't believe most players are rational inf generating agents in this game or someone other than me would have been popping purples aggressively redside circa i13 when I went from wealthy (a couple billion) to stupidly wealthy (100's of billions of value stored) mostly by popping and selling purples redside. There was another surge when the MM pets in AE didn't exemp down as well and once again.....nobody but me popping purples aggressively redside as prices rose to absurd levels (armageddons selling for 1.0B for example for week or so).

I'm not absolutely sure economics can be applied to the market though since as I have agreed, many of not most participants are not rationally driven players seeking to maximize their inf as a proxy for their utility.

In game theory and economic theory, zero-sum describes a situation in which a participant's gain or loss is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the other participant(s). If the total gains of the participants are added up, and the total losses are subtracted, they will sum to zero. Zero-sum can be thought of more generally as constant sum where the benefits and losses to all players sum to the same value of money (or utility). Cutting a cake is zero- or constant-sum, because taking a larger piece reduces the amount of cake available for others. In contrast, non-zero-sum describes a situation in which the interacting parties' aggregate gains and losses is either less than or more than zero. Zero-sum games are also called strictly competitive.

Not too bad a definition of zero-sum game pulled from wiki. O.K. Its technically not zero-sum because the house keeps 10%. But yes I mean that there is no increase in marketwide productivity of popping recipes associated with buying recipes from one seller or another (based on their efficiency at converting assets to profits through something resembling ROA or ROE). So effectively the market functions as a zero-sum game with the only real difference in utility for participants being the difference between exchange value and use value. When you're playing with purples, the way you get more (win) is for another player to pay more (lose) than he would have if you hadn't paticipated. Its possible that this will still increase the total utility of the pops to the player base as the purples will be more thoroughly sent to those who have large sums of inf and its possible those players play more thus deriving more total use value.

Now that I've put you all to sleep with economics...........well I'll get back to watching baseball.
  16. What is the total amount of inf which remains to be burned to get to #1?

A rough idea would be nice so we can gauge the pace at which we're catching up to the top spot.
  17. Nobody can ever be sure of these things.....cause unlike the real-world market, the in-game market isn't a predictor of future profitability or dividends paid by a company. Its a simple zero-sum game where people try and guess if people will pay more or less for items going forward (perhaps even more or less in comparison to other items the seller may wish to buy with the inf later).

If you want my best guess, I'd guess there will be a short-term surge in purple prices with i19 as people break out 50's almost all of which will be respec'ed to add 3 new powers to (which provides a convenient excuse to purple up a set or 2). Of course in a few weeks with everyone playing those same 50's alot, prices will probably stabilize and then drop.

How far though? I wouldn't dare say but it won't be a crash like we've seen in pool C prices with amerits unless something either increases the supply of purples alot or the incarnate system makes them less desirable than they are now and this reduces demand alot.

One thing I think everyone has missed with why the purples have spiked so much in i18 is because amerits caused a new way of racking up large amounts of inf quickly. This created a nouveux riche group which: 1) had inf in large amounts and ability to keep earning it. 2) still needed purples on one or more toons. If there is a new, unexpected method of getting large sums of inf for a currently un-purpled group....perhaps we'll see another spike.

    E.E.
  18. I don't know if its the arc or the experience.....but the two which stick out in my mind are the 1st time I did the Countess Crey arc (great PuG team did it over 2 days with all but 1 person there for day 2) and the 1st time I did a LRSF......I played my redside main Eris and 2 guys suicided and I got stacked veng on me. I then wandered into the fray against all of the Freedom Phalanx.....and one by one I killed them all with just a rad and sonic using their debuffs to help. I've still never done a LRSF remotely like that again (stacked veng has been removed so I probably never will) so its really quite memorable.

Croatoa arcs are among my favorites. Lib TV is probably the one I've played the most.

A couple people have mentioned Frostfire cause of the cutscene and all....when was that added? I have some fond memories of doing FF way back but there was no cutscene.....just someone would die and you figured out where he was off that.

    Best aoe dmg

Ticket capping in 2:30 isn't something I'd broadcast too much. Its likely to lead to more AE ticket nerfs.....and I don't have a dog in the fight cause I don't even like AE.

My SS/WP/GW clears Lib TV on +1/x8 in like 30 mins when I'm motivated. Every other run I pop a purple on average. Rage isn't a huge hinderance.....just keep a few grenades crafted for those times when rage crash is going on and you don't have other stuff to do (re-apply rage, haste, whatever). I know a SS/Fire could do it faster if they could stay upright (which I don't know if they can or not).

Seriously though avoid market PvP against experienced opponents until you have some inf you're willing to lose. I'm very good at doing what I call "sucker profiting" someone and then dumping the niche on them while still leaving lowball support bids up. When they get sick of making sub-par profits they usually dump crap they expected to sell at 20M per IO at whatever high bid is....and then I'm there to buy their stock and relist it to make the 20M. If you know how much volume is above your listing prices you know when someone is undercutting you and can strike with precision to drive them off (or you can make them think they're going to make inf and take some of theirs....up to you).
  22. Enyalios

    Wtf?

Probably someone moving inf that doesn't know the new way through mail. You should have seen the history on level 49 intangiable TOs back before email........last 5 was usually 50, 100000000, 50, 100000000, and so on.....as I used it to move inf to odd servers for storage as I filled my toons.
  23. If I didn't have niches of my own to run I'd play the game. Used to make alot of Thunderstrikes myself....but I moved on to more expensive, lower-liquidity stuff cause I actually like playing the game too.

Good way to get a bunch of someones to buy all your underpriced competitors stock though....good show.
  24. Its a forum.......people will post their opinions on prices. I have the opinion that if you want to post something here, you have to accept the postings bemoaning the prices. If you don't like it be a town crier in atlas, cap, or RWZ and you'll sell it eventually.
  25. I'm just suprised nobody is trying to buy up all of these and then flip them for 4B..you know to provide a consistent supply and all *cough*......I mean come on guys...its the market forums and all.

I won't pay 3B....but thats just cause I have 3 toons who are all going to crank one of these out in the next week or so.
