StJ *can* be used with /SD, fyi.
~Also: Both the t1 and t2 animations do alternate, you can just leave them on in the Character Creator and watch, they switch every now and then.
Another thing: It's probably nothing, but Spinning Strike has the icon for a Targeted AoE, rather than PBAoE. I haven't gotten to use it yet, but I thought that was rather weird for a scrapper AoE. Maybe it's just a bad icon, I dunno. -
can anyone figure out the name of the scrapper specific IO set? That's seriously the only thing I have left to get out of Beta and I can't find it :[
I got all the EA changes, ice armor for stalkers, regen changes, time manip, poison changes, (don't care about beam), dark blast, StJ working with /SD, everything.
Except for that freakin IO set >:[ -
I think the set will be pretty sweet since shin breaker looks like it can be slotted with an achille's heel proc, and rib cracker already does -res (all), so that's cool.
-
I just checked in game: 11.25% is at level 1. it goes up to 25.35% at lvl 50. Also it's freakin enhanceable! So we're gonna be sitting at ~50% regen resist at 50. If you can actually slot FH. which most of us don't >.<
Resilience is a base of 9.38% res(all), nearly double what it is now.
Devs love us. It's true! -
I got my blood work results back, saying there's nothing wrong with me (they lie! conspiracy!)
I start work again tomorrow (still only about 16 hours a week, though). I've been off since last thursday :/
BETA TONIGHT! W00T!
This being after I stayed up until about 7 this morning... and slept until 2pm.
I have trouble sleeping at normal times, and that's particularly problematic with school starting on the 22nd. -
spiritual paragon core, naturally.
I should also mention that I didn't use any inspirations on that mauk mission <.< Which is probably why I died
Also I didn't read his wall of text explaining the differences in all the enemies, I grabbed a few that were noticeable more problematic than the others, but that was just from running it a few times, rather than reading, so I very likely could have erred. -
Quote:I come bearing tidings of good news:
For the purposes of the VIP Beta (and the VIP Beta only, so no, you can't keep them when we go live), we will be seeding all currently active accounts with 10,000 Paragon Points, so you can spend to your hearts desire in the Paragon Market.
This will be live when Beta comes up tonight (fingers crossed, knock on wood, spin around in a circle and spit over your left shoulder).
We will get to test it tonight!get your cameras ready!

I'd forgotten another scenario I did try: That survivability test thing Mauk had made in AE a little while back.
I did try that a few times. I wanted to see if I could do it without dying without lore pets.
It was *possible,* I got through the first few mobs (literally ~3ish mobs), before dying (multiple times). I reset it every time I died, but to survive something like that you had to be absolutely perfect in both your clicky cycling, and your target choosing. I've honestly never done anything harder than that test. That's a place other sets can shine with more ease.
In normal/incarnate content, however, it's awesome.
I'll try it against some regular +4/x8 missions today and see how it feels. I haven't honestly been playing much myself -
Quote:Well... I typed a rather lengthy response to this, but the forums decided it didn't want me to post, so it logged me out and removed it all >:[So... you're enjoying your build, then? How unkillable do you feel, and compared to what? How clicky is it, and when does it get that clicky? Does the damage feel sad, or can you spend most of your time doing the DPS chain with no survivability concerns, or do the incarnate powers make it feel good? Any other comments?
I suppose the first thing to do if I'm thinking of pulling the trigger is to pull Werner out of retirement and learn to play Regeneration again. I bet I totally suck now.
So I'll try and summarize:
The build was the best damn thing I've ever played, it's a masterful work of art, and I hate that I might have to change it when we get the new scrapper specific AT set.
I frequently play a shield/fire/soul tank with a *slightly* outdated build. It was made pre-incarnate stuff (excluding alpha). If you want to plug them in to your survivability score thing, I'll throw the chunks up:
Tank:

Of course those numbers won't be too great, because of the nature of /regen (being its sloped survivability, rather than the typical plateau'd builds we more commonly see).
I'll put it another way...
When I play that tank, I never seem to die. Incarnate trials or whatever, he just doesn't die. If he starts to, he has OwtS and rebirth to fall back on.
When I play Ele, I feel like I *could* die at any time, but because of my ability to play him well, I feel like a god (trying to dissociate "I" from "my character"). Because I am good at the toon, I feel awesome. Rather than, because the toon is awesome, I feel awesome.
Does that make sense? It's a wholly different experience, because it's entirely dependent on my (the person's) ability to be awesome.
As for the clicking interrupting the killing:
No. The way I play it, almost all of the clicking is done preemptively, so when I get to the mob, there's nothing but killing happening. The only time that isn't the case is in longer fights that I *might* have to throw in another Shmeld or MoG (which rarely happens), or DP happened to be down, or I need to heal the team with rebirth, etc.
Most of the time I don't even need a DA past the first or second one. So I am free to hack away with the highest chain.
Quote:I loves me some Katana. -
Quote:Not much different <.<Your build has given me hope for when brutes get /Regen . Imagine the regen rates on that
also the build is meh. you have practically no defense when out of shmeld, and you didn't take storm kick... which is like, the best ST attack scrappers have.
Also those 4% heal set bonuses don't do anything for you. They make dull pain heal more. That's all. -
I pulled the trigger after we finished with that thread.
It was the best idea evar.
My only concern now is how good that scrapper specific IO set will be, and where it will go when we get access to it. -
"what it used to be" ~ are you refering to pre i4 regen? Because no, it's not able to solo-tank Hamidon by itself with no outside help. obviously.
I mean... that was like, 6 years ago?
Regen is, however, still pretty awesome, especially when paired with one of the single sword sets. Katana/regen and bs/regen both build about the same, with the minor exception being the recharge necessary for their attack chains, and the EPS required to run said chains. With that said, if you look in to the thread in my sig, you'll find a good bit of high end katana/regen builds and philosophies at work.
No, you don't have perma IH to soak everything that is thrown at you, but you *can* have IH and rebirth alternating for ridiculous regen at all times, on top of your hp cap, positional defenses, and shmeld, mog, and reconstruction.
sword/regen/soul is a magical bag of tools for surviving anything thrown at you.
As for BS, I've not done any in-depth crunching, but KM is likely more closely comparable to claws (or DB) than BS. You'll still get your hefty *chunks* when you swing away.
It's definitely still a good character, and it would be made even better by running redside to pick up soul mastery for shadow meld. -

Quote:I didn't post anything, but I did make a quick build or two to see what I could do, one of which did use DA in it to get over 60% melee to help with incarnate content >.<I also gotta say, I REALLY appreciate no one trying to cram Divine Avalanche into the build. I hate that power with a passion.
thought that was a bit ironic :P
On an unrelated note, did you get MoSTF with "us" or was it with some other group? I don't remember :/ I know you had multiple issues getting it, and we couldn't seem to make time to get together and do it. -
or something like this, I was amazed that it had enough extra slots to actually get some values into FH and health. That never seems to happen.

Since the endurance/recovery portion of ageless would be pretty much wasted on your toon, I'd still suggest rebirth.
You say you want to get close to perma-IH, but consider having IH, *and* rebirth to alternate or stack, *all the time." Getting IH down to about a 50% uptime is pretty much good enough when stacking with rebirth (which will be permanent at T4, or 90 seconds up at T3).
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=260718
This is a thread where we came to realize (Props to John for the idea) that stacking rebirth on a regen can actually be a very good idea. Post #8 is where the fun starts. I highly encourage reading a bit into the thread to consider your options a bit more carefully.
It's worth noting that spiritual also buffs the regen that rebirth gives, and having a ~1.1k heal (t4 radial rebirth plus t4 spiritual core) every 2 minutes is handy, especially on things like Keyes, where it's nice to share your buffs.
Between rebirth and IH, you will find that you basically *do* have perma-IH. It's freakin sweet (personal experience, not just looking at the numbers). Honestly it's even better, because you have a huge heal, and are occasionally at regen cap, all by yourself. 301 hp/s is sweet, you can't deny it.
For what it's worth, I also went with the Longbow Cataphract on my kat/regen. No regrets. It's awesome. -
first thing to note: Make sure you don't actually claim vanguard, geas, elusive, or magus in your builds, as it will throw many of your values off dramatically. All destiny buffs will also do the same thing, so you should only toggle those on when you want to see their maximum burst values (those applied in the first 5-10 seconds).
For alpha, you should definitely get spiritual paragon core. For a regen, there is nothing better.
Reactive is always good for a damage dealer, most go for total radial, some prefer partial radial (until you get to t4 radial, that is).
For destiny, you'd be safe with either partial radial rebirth (for moar regen!) or partial core barrier for the def/res. That would depend on personal preference, and the build itself (which I'm not looking at at the moment).
Judgement is more of a flavor thing. Pyro is sort of the standard benchmark, I'm not big on it because of the small-ish target cap. Void can provide you with some serious -damage debuff in a PBAoE (while also murdering lots of minions), ionic is good for mobs that are very spread out (like the first hotspot in an Apex TF, or during the BM fight at the end, it's very useful there). The problem with ion is that if you initial target dies before you fire it, the power is wasted. So you generally have to pick a boss that is not being spiked.
Cryo would almost definitely be a bad idea for you. It's good on some toons, but not a scrapper like you.
I'd say get Ion partial radial (42 target max), or void total radial (huge -dam debuff)
For lore, I present you with this:

Again, Longbow get special mention, they don't have 184 raw DPS and achieved their results through the cataphract's ability to keep the Pylon's regen floored for the entire fight (-500 to -2000% regen).
Cimerorans = 278
Warworks = 209
Phantoms = 204
Rularuu = 199
Carnies = 184

Rikti = 180

Some other notes:
Storm Elementals, Carnies & the Laser Drone started to run low on endurance around the 3 minute mark and this hampered their performance a bit - that's pretty bad IMO considering the Character I was using had T4 Cardiac Core Paragon slotted.
Phantoms & IDF manage some solid times considering they are cycling PBAoEs (FSC & Whirling Hands) in there. -

There's nothing wrong with regen, but spines works fairly well with pretty much all of the other sets too.
/da, /fa, and /ela all will stack damage auras with spines. /inv and /wp would work about the same, but /wp has a slightly weaker taunt aura (than all of the other sets), so having the DoT from quills could help you draw more aggro. /sr is groovy as well, but it doesn't really have any synergy outside of the power colors both being slightly pinkish.
I ran a spines/regen to 50 a while back (i12ish), without any problems. The only potentially negative downside would be the longer animation times of many of your attacks potentially interfering with your clickies every now and then, but it's far from a common occurrence.
/regen and /wp should be good to go out of the box, while the others might have some end issues you'll eventually solve with more slots (frankenslotting, SOs, etc)
I'd personally vote for spine/elec, but only because that's what I would enjoy, spines/da is pretty awesome as well.
Go spines/da, it's still a monster of awesome. -
Meanwhile, back in reality...
Regen doesn't suck. Stop being dramatic.
~
To the OP:
Here are two example builds, one is reasonable, one is BBQ'd.
The first can run FU -> Slash -> Focus -> Slash, maintain perma-hasten, has over 32.5% s/l defense, over 50% uptime on IH and shmeld, with plenty of regen, recovery, and enough accuracy (slash is the only problem child, but it's covered as long as you have 1 FU up).
Also, shadow meld puts you over softcap to everything while it's up, which is important.

It's a little bit more survivable because of the extra 3 resistance, the main bonus to this build is that it can actually run FU -> Focus -> Slash, so your damage output will definitely be higher (especially with 2 BU procs in the chain).

And while I normally wouldn't even recommend such a costly build, I thought it would at least be worth pointing out that /regens definitely do *not* suck. Just because our general understanding of survivability makes it seem as though they do, it is far from the truth in actual experience. As many of the long time regens here could tell you, it's experience that makes a regen good, not a build. -
This is something almost completely unrelated, but it's useful if anyone was curious:
Quote:Ok here's the full list, from highest to lowest.
All pets are T4 Core Superior Ally.
Again, Longbow get special mention, they don't have 184 raw DPS and achieved their results through the cataphract's ability to keep the Pylon's regen floored for the entire fight (-500 to -2000% regen).
- Cimerorans = 278
- Warworks = 209
- Phantoms = 204
- Rularuu = 199
- Carnies = 184
- Longbow* = 184
- Rikti = 180
- IDF = 179
- Arachnos = 177
- Nemesis = 164
- Robotic Drones = 162
- Polar Lights = 160
- Storm Elementals = 148
- Vanguard = 141
- Seers = 131
Some other notes:
Storm Elementals, Carnies & the Laser Drone started to run low on endurance around the 3 minute mark and this hampered their performance a bit - that's pretty bad IMO considering the Character I was using had T4 Cardiac Core Paragon slotted.
Phantoms & IDF manage some solid times considering they are cycling PBAoEs (FSC & Whirling Hands) in there. -
we already have WTFs that we run once a week >.<
this game is getting worse and worse, as it gets exponentially better and better -
