  1. Okay... yeah, let's look at the best part... the Brain in the Jar!!!

    Without Eyes:

    Empty!!

    With the different Respirator:

    And with NO respirator:

You can also mess with the coloring of the jar and the fluid inside of it. All of these use a grey and a light/faded bue-ish purple.

  2. Okay, here are some very quick pics of the new pieces (and some quick costumes):

    Sea Creature stuff:
Head with Fins (there is an option to remove the Fins [the antennae are not removable]), Gloves and Boots

    with reptilian body

With a bit of a different costumeAND the new Spider Web Wings

Yeah, I got excited when I skimmed through the new items in the market...
Initial excitement wore off as I went through some more of the options.
I'm not saying it's bad, but I'm going to sleep on it, hehe.
Certainly some great options!! No question about that. Just a few issues here and there that make me question the value... But, really, I think I'll be happy with it (we'll see).

    Pictures coming...
  4. I love logging on late Monday/Early Tuesday...
I haven't even gone through it all yet, but there is new stuff in the store...
A bunch of Halloween-Themed costume pieces (Including a Pack, which I am thinking most/all of these pieces are included within... I will be purchasing this pretty soon after I type this)...
I'm just excited... besides seeing "Pirhana Head" and a bunch of other costume items listed in the store (so I raced to the creator instead)...
We have a Brain in a Jar HEAD OPTION!!!
What's even cooler is you get a choice of having a brain in there... a brain with eyes... or EMPTY!
And two vent/breather options outside the front of the head/tank.
It's a special head, so no other head details to add...
Anyway... Going to go pour through it all, and -if I have time- I'll try and grab pics...

REALLY liked the look of the Fish-Tank Head, haha, and had to share!!

Bats Aura, High-Colored Cape and some other Fin (fishy) parts were spotted in the list too, btw...

    !!!
  5. One serious thing that I meant to mention is that 2nd Edition (and some 1st Edition, beyond the DM's Guide... Unearthed Arcana, Oriental Adventures - to name two) had sooooo many resources (especially for the Forgotten Realms).
Dropping that stuff for a new edition just was not an option for some of us with the bookshelves stacked with resource after resource after resource!
Sure, you can convert it... but, it wasn't broken, so we didn't need to fix it (not with their new books, at least).
I think the new spell names irked me the most.
I don't even care if they were better spell names for some of them... Some of us long-timers are just not going to relearn new spell names for ones we've been reading, using, saying for so many years.

Out with the old, I guess!
  6. Hehe, I remember talking around the D&D table (I stopped at 2nd Edition... some of my friends like the Skills & Options addition) about how we wanted individual computer screens in the table at each seat, all with each book and resource in its database...
Haha... Even better now, I suppose, we can have iPads or laptops with it all.

I've managed to find most of the books and modules, over the years, but I haven't looked in quite some time. I've sadly stopped playing for a few years.
It's hard to develop a new group when you've played for so long with a certain style... and you discover that pretty much nobody else plays that way, hah.

Being adaptive is one thing, but finding nothing but munchies-munching, soda-drinking, lovers of the my-legendary-character-could-beat-your-legendary-character argument all gathered together for a weekly session in the basement style of players has made my wife and I stop looking!
Zero offense to such players... keep on enjoying it! (I just felt like poking fun a little!)

    There actually is!

Oh, come on, you know the benefit of immersion/bridging the gaps of game mechanics and virtual reality.
I'm not saying that I am against the TUT (not at all), however, I agree with what StormSurvivor said above...

Enough of things being accessible exclusively through the team-up teleporter? Oh my, yes.
I'm all for making things easier, but it's also nice to have some sort of cohesive path from point A to the Mission.
Otherwise... Why should we have mission entrances at all?
Let's just grab missions out of the ether and automatically transport to their start.
    I don't think you're for that.
I just happen to think that these things being introduced with no actual entrances/points-of-lift-off could use a place for the people and the times when we'd like to travel there.

By all means, I think the TUT is great and I want them to expand and improve its usage!
I, for one, just don't like all of this stuff being exclusively through the TUT.

We could use a Haunted House Trial, of sorts, in Dark Astoria (although, that's not co-op... so, yeah, never mind!).

But has me going "Since when has Shield use been a popular super power?"
Oh... You now... since some time around when Zeus's pal, Hephaestus, crafted that nifty shield!

There may be other examples before that too though... Not sure!

Personally, a scythe, halberd or some such similar titan weapon option is the only thing I'm currently thinking would get me into this set right away.
  11. Yep, and that's much appreciated, Zwill!
You're not responsible for any of this, hehe.
And, while I don't think the issues with the award dates have been a problem, it has been weird... and, for you, I can only imagine how much more frustrating it is... "I tell them the info that I'm given... and it kicks things out in completely different ways!!".
    Heehee...
I think the cat is out of the bag...
It is obvious that the humans have lost control and that the computer is running the show!
  12. Haha... I was so excited by the announcement, the information and the pictures that I thought it was live today...
I have to wait until the 20th...
    Fine, fine.

  15. Yeah, is "up to four" players correct or is it supposed to be "a minimum of four" to get started?
I certainly don't mind, it just seems counter to what I'd expect (which is not a bad thing!).
  16. This sounds fantastic! Can't wait to log in, hopefully tonight (stupid other things keeping me away from the computer!!)!
  17. Yep, just wanted to add my opinion that enhancing Hurdle (and adding a slot or two to it) makes quite a nice difference.

Before Ninja Run and Beast Run, I had one character who didn't take any traditional travel powers... But I slotted up Hurdle and Sprint and was surprised at how well that worked out.
Then Ninja Run came along and it was way more than I expected.

Anyway... running on the ground or hopping all the way, Ninja Run or Beast Run will get you places nearly as fast as the traditional travel powers. They can be faster than Flight, but lack the obvious advantages... Still... in most places, that doesn't present much of a problem.
Add in a GvE Jump Pack, or the Steampunk Jump power or a Jetpack and you can overcome any wall, crevice or obstacle.

    EDIT:
Add in a teammate with Recall Friend and their impatience is no longer a concern!

But when the newer players think that THEIR way is the only right way and that the vets are trying to hold them back... I do have a problem.
See, I'm in complete agreement with you here... Just remove the Vets and New Players aspect, because I don't think it has anything to do with the actual issue.
Rude people are rude people, new or old.
The problem you experienced was a problem of rudeness, really - Not new players not understanding what vets have agreed upon through experience.

    Just my thoughts on it!

Haha, you know there is a lot of truth within that.
Nothing can be related so well as through experience itself.
  20. I have that same jazzed feeling about Street Justice.
It seems to be a combination of the animations, the flow, the effectiveness and the combo system that creates this feel in playing Street Justice that just completely rocks!

I haven't been able to put it into words, exactly...

And I have only played it up to level 10 in Beta...
But I will be making an alt with it live soonish. It's just that I've got a few other new alts that I am a still enjoying, so I am waiting a bit.

Still... Street Justice gets as many thumbs up as I can give it. It is really fantastic!! No... not "fantastic"... it is kickass!!

    Hash FAILURE!

I apologize that I don't have anything more helpful to add...
But my only experience with hash errors looked something like this:

Yes, I understand they most likely don't want people to get 7 Hero/Villain Merits per day for running shorter content, but each arc is $5. When it's all said and done, that's $35 for non-VIP's to play content that doesn't guarantee them a top-level reward if they play more than 2 SSA's per week.

When Freedom was in closed beta, Enhancement Boosters were listed in the market and there was a chance to fail the boost after you boosted an IO once. Players were up in arms because you were paying real money for something you had a chance to fail at. You were gambling on the chance of +5'ing something.

Now the SSA's were never in beta so no one was able to test them. No one was able to see that something else that was purchasable from the store cut you off from a top-level reward after playing it twice. Not only playing the same arc twice, but playing 2 of any SSA's within the same WEEK.

I said I hate to complain because I really do. But no one else is catching on that the game, being free to play, is not doing anything to hold F2P or premiums to WANT to buy the SSA's every month. What's the point? The game relies on their $5 purchases, but if they only need to buy SSA1 what's the point in buying SSA2-7 if they aren't getting the rewards for it. Doing SSA1 two times per week is the same as doing SSA2-7 since they run off the same reward table.

There is no incentive for them to purchase the SSA's. There is no incentive for them to pay another $5 a month for something they can get from running a 10 minute SSA1 arc twice a week.

CoH is relying on F2P players just as much as subscribers at this point. And when you're told "No, you get no (or little) reward for repeatedly playing this separately purchased content because YOU don't need more than 2 top-level rewards per week" you're not really asking them to invest their money month after month on a 3 part story arc when they have 7 years of content for free.
The SSAs aren't the lock or the main hook for attracting/keeping players.
It's just some content, an ongoing story hook (not rewards hook).
The business model won't fail or succeed based on the SSA.

The reward distribution and balance schemes shouldn't be dictated by the cost in the store.
  23. You know, the overwhelming focus on "rewards" is really starting to annoy me.

Just play the game... have fun defeating enemies and/or helping your allies.

Just because content is paid-for doesn't mean it has to cater to a person's desire for proper in-game "rewards".
Playing should be enough of a reward... if it isn't... Maybe you're not interested in that content. And/or maybe you should do that other content that you aren't complaining about the rewards for.

And, if anyone thinks that the combined SSA rewards, added up for each and every individual arc within the whole storyline, wouldn't be too much to give out, then you're failing to recognize that they handed out rather sizable rewards for these relatively short arcs.
The fact that we get those seem to be more of a perk for those who want such rewards... Not some minimal standard for having to run such content.

The fact that the content is VIP/Premium-Bought doesn't mean they have to measure up to some absurd standard that the I want in-game rewards to build my stuff with crowd imagines.

    Just my opinions!
  24. Heh, that's really not a matter of Vets vs New Players...
However things have already been pretty well said:

Don't be surprised if you join a task force and find that the more experienced players are unilaterally deciding that they know best how to run the TF, without consulting or even informing you. Don't take it personally; they are set in their ways and can't understand that some people might have different assumptions than they do. A good practice when joining a TF is to ask, "are we speeding this?" because many team leaders won't even tell you that at the outset, even though it can make a huge difference in fun for many. Remember, if you join a TF and it turns out to be run in a way you don't like, you can leave and form your own!

Now, to this specific case of the Sister Psyche and this one mission...
No, this isn't a speed run and I don't even necessarily think that every single leader has to remember to bring this up when forming the team...
Stealthing and Teleporting are legitimate powers and tactics, just as much as any of our attacks, buffs and debuffs... So, there's not a unilateral issue against such tactics.
I believe that particular situation comes down to this...
You bring up the option, you vote, and the leader makes the final decision based on the vote. The leader could say, well 6 to 2, but these two have never done it before, so let's go with them... everyone okay with that? or could just go with the vote and explain to the 2 that skipping things here and there could be the difference between a 2 hour TF and a 4 hour TF or whatever the case may be.
That's the thing new people may not realize... that these TFs can take a long while.

Anyway, communication is definitely the key. However we're not perfect and sometimes just a bit of sorting things out and sharing of respectful thoughts can win out just as much as preliminary communication (if not more so).

Still... taking your standards and the standards of those you generally run TFs with as the Veteran Standards that new player should be made aware of is not right.
There are plenty Veterans who disagree with those standards.

Honestly, I think this is a great example of how this community has slipped a bit in maintaining a more respectful view of various standards.
I think that the pushy crowd has taken liberties and others have let them (more blame to those that let them and haven't communicated their disapproval, in my opinion).

Anyway... that last bit shouldn't be read as anything grandiose. I just think that (very generally speaking... I love all types of players, so zero disrespect here) the speeders, min/maxers and such have enforced their standards to the point that people, as the OP mentions, don't really complain when TFs and such go that route without any preliminary announcement of the plan.
(also, fully noting that stealthing a map or two is not a full-on speed run... but it is still something that should be agreed upon)
