what powers should i keep and what do i not need?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Plant - necessary: Strangler, Roots, Seeds of Confusion, Carrion Creepers. Strongly recommended: Venus Fly Trap. Optional, depending on your playstyle and intent: Vines is recommended, Spirit Tree (team) and Entangle (solo) are optional. Spore Burst is generally skipped.

Kinetics - necessary: Transfusion, Siphon Speed, Speed Boost, Transference, Fulcrum Shift. Optional: Siphon Power, Increase Density. Inertial Reduction is fully skippable if you take a travel power, or it can be your travel power. Repel is generally skipped, but it can be used as a situational defensive power.

On a team build, I would skip Spore Burst, Entangle, Inertial Reduction and Repel. I like Air Sup/Fly for travel.

Solo, try to take Entangle for the extra damage. Spirit Tree is skippable in either build, but it is a nice buff and looks cool.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget to add that later in the game powers like repel and spore burst can be slotted with kinetic crash and fortunata hypnosis for some very nice cheap set bonuses, which definatly make them worth taking even if you only use them once in a blue moon.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
If your damage chain is going to be ring, char, and epic blast make sure char is slotted for damage and get more damage procs into that chain.

    You should have:
2 procs in ring (purple dam, immob dam)
2 procs in char (purple dam, hold dam)
1 proc in powerblast (kb dam)

Just those procs will add approx 50 dps to your build.

Do you need char slottef for hold for any encounter in the pve game? Nope. It is a great attack though with a very nice side benefit of a hold imo. Treat it like fortunatas treat their dominate.

The fire/rad build I have pulls just shy of 300 dps vs a lvl 50 AV (including LR). I could get it a bit higher with pvp recipies and more purples, but meh.

If everything goes well I can drop an (easy) AV in less than 2.5 min. 3 min is more common though. No insp, no temps, no clicks.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My chain would most likely be Ring of Fire>epic blast>ring of fire>char>ring of fire>epic blast>repeat.

Putting a proc in either power blast or char(whether its slotted for holds or dmg) would result in less ranged defense. Like I said in my last post, I tried to fit in the ToTH proc into RoF but couldnt find anything to drop for it, suggestions? Ring of Fire already has the purple proc in it, Char /had/ the purple proc in it until I was told I needed more ranged defense.

Could anyone else (like silverado or kahlan) support what he said about slotting char for damage?
  6. Thanks for the replies. (:

I made a few changes in my build brining my ranged defense up to 38.8%, 44.4% when hover and CJ get powerboosted. Though I lost a bit of recharge doing that, I no longer have permahasten, but still have permaAM and permaLR.

I guess I can post my build, even though I don't like to... just in case you guys see something I didn't.

The build is insanely tight on slots. I tried fitting in a ToTH dmg proc in ring of fire, but couldnt see anything to drop for it, nor could find myself able to fit in some other stuff.

I know I don't have flashfire, but neither do I want nor do I need it. I'd rather not have the armaggeddons in hot feet... but the build really needs the accuracy and recharge bonuses, and I cant really switch the power for something else, because it's such good aoe dmg. Sigh.

Either way heres the build, please let me know if you see any improvements that I could make. (:

  7. So I just hit 50 on my fire/rad, and before I respec to put in a whole bunch of IOs I just want to make sure everything will work out.

    So my questions are:

About how much DPS is needed to take out an AV @ lvl 50 with and without Lingering Radiation (my build would have it overlapping by 4 seconds, but I'm still curious what it would take without LR)?

I chose power mastery over psy mastery for CP and PB, am I going to regret not going with the mez protection? I'd prefer to solo them without the use of insps if at all possible.

My planned build has 31.3% ranged defense. When combined with PB'ed smoke (14% tohit debuff) and RI (39.4% tohit debuff, 70% tohit debuff when PBed about 50% of the time), will that give me the same effect as soft capped 45% defense after the AV/GM resists the debuffage?

    Thanks (:
  8. Later on you can also get powerboost for the smoke/flash arrow combo bringing the combined tohit debuff to about 28%. Worth 3 powers? Not really imo, when rads can do it so much better with just 1 power, but it gets the job done.

Er... set up to ghost missions, pick a random scrapper, win?

Ed: Prolly a bit too tongue in cheek, but I doubt most of my scrappers would have difficulty dealing with a 4man posi.

[/ QUOTE ] Blasters are better at that level.

    edit: IMO

    [/ QUOTE ]
    IMO not needed.

Blasters do extremely well on Posis. I think the best time I did was 1:07 when I was on my fire/em blaster teamed with my friend's cold/sonic defender. My blaster wasn't really built for that low lvl, and my friend's cold fender is built for PvP.

I think if we really wanted to butcher that TF we could make a kin/sonic defender combine it with a nrg or archery/em or psy blaster. Nrg and archery blasting gets its tier 3 blast early (at lvl 6), which makes for a great boost in dmg, KB is also nice at that lvl for surviving. /Psy for killing clocks, /Em for BU and the 2 nice ST punches. The kin defender would have SB at that lvl to keep blaster's end and recharge up, along with trans heals, and some dmg and res debuffs.

I can't really see anything that would work better than a kin+blaster for a posi.

    [ QUOTE ]
Really? I thought a lot of AVs had AoE attacks. Are they mostly PBAoEs rather than targeted AoEs?

(I've never tried fighting an AV on a squishy without a Tank or Brute holding aggro...)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    2 things)

1: You don't need to worry about PBAoEs (like whirling sword)because you should never be that close for them to be in range. (There are a couple exceptions to this like Scirocco's EM Pulse with that ridiculouus 80 ft radius, but that can't 1 shot ya, unless you're not at full hp)

2: You don't need to worry about Targetted AoEs (like fireball) because as long as the target is you the targetted aoe attack will check for ranged defense not aoe defense.

  17. My PB runs in nova with her 2 ST blasts slotted with 3 centriole hamis. That brings her 100 ft range up to 156 feet.

Recently I put in 4 sets of javellin volley for a nice 30% range bonus. Obviously I can't say what the range now would be in PvE because the set bonuses only apply in pvp, but my maths show it would be 203 ft range. In the arena in drops to 189 ft range. So DR does not hit range bonuses very hard.

If you notice, defense buffs enhances the debuff protection in every other kill in the set. It's the same mechanic for Active Defense. Socket a Defense/Recharge/ToHit SHO or HO in Active Defense and watch the value of your debuff resistance increase accordingly.

Mids and especially CoD are not that reliable.

    [/ QUOTE ]
By how much specifically would slotting 1 hami in active defense add to the defense debuff protection?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Active Defense is 17.3% def resistance, and Membranes are 20% enhancement, or ~3.46% each. (The last one is slightly less due to ED.) So adding 3 would yield 9.688% def resistance. Also, since the def resistance is stackable, you can double that number if you have enough recharge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting, this is good to know.

I knew that hamis could add to powers that were not supposed to add to certain attributes (hi mindlink), just didn't know it worked for def debuff resistance. I guess the same way micros can enhance slows as well as movement buffs.

Defense/Recharge/ToHit HOs and SHOs effictively add up to 55% defense debuff protection allowing SD to hit the cap.

(Note: that would be +55% in Ative Defense, and does require stacking. Yes, it's not easy to achieve, but SD is pretty much broken when you get it there.)

Wait, what...? Hamis add defense debuff protection.... how?

Edit: looking at mids it shows no change by slotting those.
