Some Q's on AV soloing

So I just hit 50 on my fire/rad, and before I respec to put in a whole bunch of IOs I just want to make sure everything will work out.

So my questions are:

About how much DPS is needed to take out an AV @ lvl 50 with and without Lingering Radiation (my build would have it overlapping by 4 seconds, but I'm still curious what it would take without LR)?

I chose power mastery over psy mastery for CP and PB, am I going to regret not going with the mez protection? I'd prefer to solo them without the use of insps if at all possible.

My planned build has 31.3% ranged defense. When combined with PB'ed smoke (14% tohit debuff) and RI (39.4% tohit debuff, 70% tohit debuff when PBed about 50% of the time), will that give me the same effect as soft capped 45% defense after the AV/GM resists the debuffage?

Thanks (:

I'm not sure about the first question. For the second, the mez protection is definitely nice, but you can make do with just AM, especially since mez resistance has a higher cap nowadays. For the third question, it depends on the level of the AV. They have their normal AV resistance to tohit debuffs, as well as resistance based on what level they are relative to you. Estimating in my head, I think you will have enough for a level 50 AV, but not enough for a 54 AV. Even so, you should be fine with that much ranged defense + EF + the heal + the imps.

Somewhere north of 93 DPS. Granted, you want much more than that since if you're net dps is only +1...that 27,000 HP is going to take awhile. Perma-LR is a -75% regen debuff against a level 50 AV, so you would only need somewhere over 23 DPS. Now to put that back on the other end...if you only do say, 94 DPS, with LR, your equivalent damage is as though you are dealing a net of +71 DPS, which is not too bad at all.

You really need CP when you should have perma-AM? Methinks something strange is afoot. That said, it doesn't really matter which epic you choose but yeah, mez protection could help.

Assuming no PB but 'capped' slotting, your total debuff will be 7.8+39 for a total of 46.8% -tohit. AVs will resist that 87%*** down to ~6.1% -ToHit. Your ranged defense isn't enough for 'effective' softcap. With Powerboost active, you have ~13.5% -ToHit. Still not quite softcap but better. Unfortunately, this is far from constant (and the only persistent debuff would be Smoke and that's the much, much smaller number) so it is not going to get the performance you desire.

[edit] The resistance at 50 would be 85%

I swear I'm going to get all stabby on the guy who made a new "Archvillain Resistance" entry on ParagonWiki, overwriting the link to the table of resistances by level. That new entry is freaking worthless in comparison.

[edit] Gah. They moved it to the 'Archvillain' page. I swear that site is manned by monkeys at times...

Go with Fire Mastery for Fire Blast and maybe Consume if you want. Drop smoke and find a way to squeeze at least 37.5% ranged defense

Thanks for the replies. (:

I made a few changes in my build brining my ranged defense up to 38.8%, 44.4% when hover and CJ get powerboosted. Though I lost a bit of recharge doing that, I no longer have permahasten, but still have permaAM and permaLR.

I guess I can post my build, even though I don't like to... just in case you guys see something I didn't.

The build is insanely tight on slots. I tried fitting in a ToTH dmg proc in ring of fire, but couldnt see anything to drop for it, nor could find myself able to fit in some other stuff.

I know I don't have flashfire, but neither do I want nor do I need it. I'd rather not have the armaggeddons in hot feet... but the build really needs the accuracy and recharge bonuses, and I cant really switch the power for something else, because it's such good aoe dmg. Sigh.

Either way heres the build, please let me know if you see any improvements that I could make. (:

If your damage chain is going to be ring, char, and epic blast make sure char is slotted for damage and get more damage procs into that chain.

You should have:
2 procs in ring (purple dam, immob dam)
2 procs in char (purple dam, hold dam)
1 proc in powerblast (kb dam)

Just those procs will add approx 50 dps to your build.

Do you need char slottef for hold for any encounter in the pve game? Nope. It is a great attack though with a very nice side benefit of a hold imo. Treat it like fortunatas treat their dominate.

The fire/rad build I have pulls just shy of 300 dps vs a lvl 50 AV (including LR). I could get it a bit higher with pvp recipies and more purples, but meh.

If everything goes well I can drop an (easy) AV in less than 2.5 min. 3 min is more common though. No insp, no temps, no clicks.

My chain would most likely be Ring of Fire>epic blast>ring of fire>char>ring of fire>epic blast>repeat.

Putting a proc in either power blast or char(whether its slotted for holds or dmg) would result in less ranged defense. Like I said in my last post, I tried to fit in the ToTH proc into RoF but couldnt find anything to drop for it, suggestions? Ring of Fire already has the purple proc in it, Char /had/ the purple proc in it until I was told I needed more ranged defense.

Could anyone else (like silverado or kahlan) support what he said about slotting char for damage?

Definitely slot char for damage, and damage procs (except purples) can safely be dismissed as they don't help nearly as much as you'd think

Also I'd still drop Smoke and take Flashfire instead, then you have the option of slotting the purple stun set OR the Stupify set for +6.25% rech and +3.75% ranged defense

Another suggestion is you might want to reconsider your epic pool choice. You seem to be dead set on power mastery which is cool, but neither PB or CP belong in an AV soloing build really. Not not mention Fire Blast has much higher DPA than Power Blast and if you're seeing end problems (which you shouldn't with perma AM and all) then you can always grab Consume

[/ QUOTE ] Updated build has the purple stun set in flashfires since I already have a full set in my base. (Still doesnt mean I like the power though, rad debuffs are my trinity )

2 reasons I liked power mastery so much: A) My ill/storm has it and loves it, and she can solo AVs (although built for pvp), and B) If you notice the endurance recovery in the build, she recovers 4.68 eps, reduced by 1.33 eps from toggles, and 2.45 eps go into RoF spam for damage. That leaves me with 0.93 eps for whatever I need to do (chars, epic blast, LR, heal, AM, etc) You can see where I might need that CP, no?

Power Boost also being there for a huge boon in survivability. Oh well.

Here's my updated build, I think I like the overall more (changed various things around), but I'm still not entirely sure on the epic.

Looks like it's got the basics. You can either use that build with Fire Mastery or Power Mastery, both will get the job done anyways (I personally favor the damage since I didn't see any end problems). Now you'll just have to go for a stroll and share the results

You do not need to slot Char for damage, and you do not need a high damaging epic blast to solo AVs. It just takes a bit longer, but LR, EF and your Imps will do most of the work for you. My attack chain is Mental Blast (the weak sister of epic blasts), RoF & Char. Char is 5-slotted w/Unbreakable and 1 lvl 50 dam IO. My Pylon soloing time is 5:35 w/that makeup which beats all but the highest specced scrappers, so I think that's plenty of practical DPS (GMs take me like 15 min, but mostly cuz they run around a lot and things/ppl get in the way). On test, I swapped out Mental for Ice Blast and lowered my time significantly, but gave up mez resists which will kill you against many AVs.

I should note, that's all w/o insps--if you're willing to use BFs, I guess you can go w/Fire or Ice Blast w/your epic. I also like to do other things w/my Fire/Rad than just solo AVs, so I slot for holds in Char, though I did have to give up a few things like Hotfeet & 6-slotting Fire Cages (only 3-slotted, and not used in AV fights obviously). No way I give up Flashfire or Cinders (or EMP) tho, esp since they hold very good defensive IO sets.

Just finished IOing her out (well almost: missing 2 lotgs and 2 apocs), cost about 400 mil , luckily had a good amount of stuff in my base, or it would have cost a whole lot more.

Started some random AE arc, and took down Marauder first, followed by Siege, followed by Chimera. I just picked them cause I figured they would be good practice dummies. It went pretty smoothly. Cept Marauder got lucky and hit me with 2 hurl boulders in a row which killed me, but I could probably avoid that next time, the rest was very easy. Chimera held me twice, but I guess that is to be expected, and had to burn a few blue insps.

Edit: Also just now solo'ed a rikti pylon: 4 minutes 10 secs, had to used 4 blue insps though

But considering the build isnt totally finished, and didn't have any accolades, I was very happy with the turnout

Ty again for all the advice given.

That's an excellent time, gratz! Which epic did you end up taking? I got 4:10 w/Ice (could lower it still if I respecced in Bonfire), but w/Psi and Char not slotted fully for damage, I can't break 5:00. Try w/o insps tho for an "official" time.

Build is the same as the last one I posted (fire epic), cept I went with oblits instead of arms in hot feet, (cause I forgot how freakishly expensive they are now), and am missing a couple other IOs. Between Geas, and the passive accolades, I should be able to do it inspless, once I get them.
