ARE YOU INSANE??!!!! How dare you bring anti-doom into a doom thread! If you lose containment of your anti-doom and it collides with our doom it could create an explosion that will destroy the entire interwebz!!!!!

Some of the flag settings make no sense, but i guess they're left over from launch when standard MMO conventions informed a lot of the interface design. At that time open world hunts for 200 rats, street hunts or whatever were more the norm, so a "Looking for patrol" flag may have made sense. Nowadays it makes little to no sense at all as a teaming flag.
I know back in '05 most of the teaming invites I got were for street sweeping in Perez or the like. When I came back to the game I found most of my toons still had "No hunts" in their search comments because of it.
  3. I agree with the OP, but I think the wrong symbolism is being used. It's not the prominence of the hero's picture, but the name.

First we had Statesman. What is a Statesman? Someone who is able to speak to the people, bring them to his cause, but also someone who is certain that their way is the only way. So we began with someone who knew what we wanted better than we did and was able to convince enough people he was right to keep the game going.

Then we had Positron. Which sounds like "positive". Now everything is all good and happy, and we all think positive thoughts and get along. Players are kept happy (or as happy as any group of disparate people can be) and everything is brightness and sunshine.

and now...War Witch... War is conflict, horror, destruction... While the cause may not be, war itself is just evil and cruel. Witch, well, that is often used as a substitute for a similar sounding word the forums will filter. This is our new lead, and proves beyond a doubt that this spells doom for us all....
  4. I rarely set it since, most of the time, I'm ambivalent about teaming. I might join a team if invited but I'm not really looking for one. On those occasions when I do want to team, I'll set my flag unless I start my own. There doesn't seem much point to do it (and in actuality I don't even think about it) if I'm sending out invites myself.

What you're encountering here, Techbot, is that alot of people, especially longtime veterans, get into a mindset where they think everyone plays the same way they do. So if they do their best to sprint to 20 that means everyone must do the same thing.

I've nearly 100 characters at this point and not one of them has hit 20 in only a few hours. Then again, I've never tried to get them there that fast.

Given that GR content is only to level 20, and the epics were moved down to level 20, I tend to suspect (but again, only my own belief), that our playstyle is more typical of the playerbase than the style that gets you to 20 in a few hours.

But we'll never know, unless a dev decides to post their datamining on the issue.

I think 20 is a good level for it to be moved down to. I myself don't even have a single 50 yet because I find the 40 to 50 game to feel more like a grind than fun. Not getting them at start makes new players (who will not level to 20 in a couple hours without PLing) learn the game first, while keeping the level to unlock them relatively easy to get to increases the potential number of players who will start using them. The more players use them, the more priority they'll have with the devs for being worked on.
  6. It was resolved in the comics already, way back when, shortly after Jean became Phoenix.

Reading all this has just reminded me why I stopped reading comics back in '86. Alot of 60's DC stories made more sense than many of these things.
  7. I've created about 30 new characters in the last year and only once had trouble finding a name, so I can't relate to this problem. I've no desire to see every character name take up an entire line in the chat window like in Champions. That just looks ugly.

What I find hilarious about the whole idea behind this thread, however, is that its very easy for a player to get any name they want if they're willing to append some extra character to it, but they would rather see a much longer @globalname appended instead. I can only assume that its because appending only stands out when few people resort to it that some want to force every single person in the game to have to endure it.
  8. I was on earlier and you didn't say hi to me.

Now I'm feeling hurt and betrayed...

  13. Let's see....I have toons on all but Infinity and Protector now, and cycle between them....I play between 10 PM and 8 AM PST...and I have rarely been unable to find a team when I wanted one. Those few times when I couldn't find a team I'd solo a mission or two and look again, and get on one then.

Nor have I ever played without getting team invites regularly when I wasn't looking for a team.

Not always full 8-man teams, though never less than 5 unless a bigger team had started breaking up and those of us left didn't bother looking for replacements.

This remained true throughout the AE heyday. So I do discount the OP's statements.

  15. I'd like to see them change teleport entirely and adopt the CO version. That's become my favorite travel power in any game.

Swinging I find annoying. It's cool to play with, but, when you have to travel a long-distance it is a pain. On the other hand, it is a far more common comic-book travel power than teleport, and not having it is rather glaring omission for a super-hero game. After all, heroes were swinging from rooftops more than 20 years before Spider-Man came around.

Other than different flying skins like CO essentially has, I can't think of anything else CoH is missing for travel powers.

So, willingness to leave reputation with notes like 'Hypocritcal, a bit too much read into it - Flea' but not display my rep for the sake of ego clearly makes it that much worse?

Wait, why the hell am I getting contemplative at this time in the morning?
Huh? Did someone add a whole bunch of extra paragraphs to my post that I can't see?

Please explain to me where you get any of this from my post. Forbin can clarify, after the fact, that he was just talking about those who use the anonymity of the rep remarks to attack someone. While I take him at his word on that, there was nothing in the post I responded to, nor the quote in that post, that makes his statement sound like anything but a general comment.

Look at his post. He is basically insulting anyone who gives negative rep without signing it whilst simultaneously refusing to display his own rep. I find that rather ironic given that he still hands out rep to others.

I did not say or infer that not showing rep makes you bad. You somehow gleaned that from the post. I don't know where you drew this "rep off = bad" thing from. Maybe you need to watch your own assumptions.

  20. For me the "go to first new post" button works on rare occasions, the rest of the time it takes me to one of the first 5 or 6 posts, no matter how old they are and when I was last listed as logging on. It's almost completely useless.

So far, I haven't seen these forums loading any faster than the old ones at all. The last hour it's been excruciatingly slow...

But the 'Oceanics' among us have always been a part of the NA server forumgoers, haven't they?

I'm not complaining, if the Australians etc are happy to have their own forum now, yay.

But it does rather add fuel to the 'Women's Day? When's Men's Day?' - 'EVERY DAY is Men's Day!' appearence that some have claimed the forums have, ie that the forums are basically NA forums with little enclaves for the non-Yanks among us to squat in.

If we get an American Lounge, of course, then that would answer that.

    Eco.

PS After the American Lounge, can we have a Baltic lounge please? If you build it, they will come!
I think this forum's descriptions makes it clear this about time zone differences, not geographic location. As an American who usually plays during Aussie hours, this sounds like a good idea to me.

The only other thing I could think of if it may be specific day job locations are bugged, like the Sharkshead and IP Base Portals would show a Day Job location icon but not apply time. (These were fixed)
It may be that not all Day Job powers are accruing time properly. I've been working on Field Crafter for the last couple weeks on one of my toons, leaving them logged off in King's Row WW and logging on once or twice a day.
This whole time my WW teleporter has remained at 8 uses.

The internet is serious. The great issues of our day are decided here.

Speaking of serious business, we have to talk about all these "I like pie" tags. Pie is the devil! Pie spreads all these "the cake is a lie" rumors. PIE is the lie, people! I don't think it's right that my beliefs are being oppressed by a small minority of pie worshipers spreading their filth throughout every thread of the forum!

Pie needs to be filtered as a dirty word. All those tags should "i like ***"! Better yet, anyone who types "pie" anywhere in the forum should be banned for life (except when typing it as an example of what not to say).
